I've listened to this countless times now and the more I listen to it, the better Jack gets. Yes his tuning a little iffy at times (such as in the final chorus) but there are some parts where he just sounds SO good, especially the THEN in "then I heard you was talking trash" (and obviously the "but that just ain't up for sale") โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Jack Howard, you carry a lot of tension in your shoulders when you sing... breathe, relax, and the less you stress about being perfectly in tune, the better the sound will be :)

they should be flat, but the need to be at least a cm or so above the piano, so the height comes for the arch of the fingers, you get a much broader range for your fingers to move then

+Jack Hamilton it does matter. When I first started playing, my piano instructor fixed that right away on me, because it could affect the way you play.
Honestly, I was taught, and when you have a keyboard with low keys, it's not a huge issue. If you have a keyboard like mine, then yes, it's much easier to play with your wrists up. But if she isn't having any issues, no worries.

As someone who has played the piano for almost 10 years now, I believe my opinion is valid. While yes, technically speaking, her form may not be the best, I've noticed she focuses more on the feeling of the music. And I speak from experience when I say that you tend to play flatter when you're more into the song. Not only that, she genuinely seems to be enjoying the music and depending on the songs she plays, her form will most likely fix itself. And no, we don't hate you:). You were really nice about the way you said it. Hope this helped.
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM (aka don't read if you get offended easily): I understand that your style of singing is like the soft kind, but you're not putting enough emphasis on the end of the sentences you sing. They're barely audible. I can tell you can sing very well, so maybe add a little bit of vibrato just for the extra pizzazz, yanno? Just to enhance the overall performance. Kk I'm done.

@doddleoddle You shouldn't hold back! You sound amazing! Singing loud is all about breathing, the more air you push out the louder the notes. Look up 'Belly Breathing for singing' or 'singing from your diaphragm', it is super helpful once you learn how to do it!
I agree! I love the sweet soft voice but let lose and belting a note or two could be very freeing. Also Dodie you are one of the sweetest most down to earth youtubers and we love you!

Personally i like it because these are covers. Youre not intentionally trying to sound like the artist . When you make a cover i feel as if you cover the song to make it your own and that is exactly what shes doing. And a lot of artists like to sing much louder and when she sings it in a much softer tone it gives you a new perspective on the song. As if the lyrics mean something else. Now im not angry about your comment or upset. Im just stating the facts. And the mixture of a louder voice and a much quieter one is a very nice mixture and it blends perfectly its quite amazing. Very lovely Dodie, And Jack .
I like this style because of it being soft and I feel as that's what's getting my attention! The lyric seem to get into my mind easily, unlike the original artist or other covers. im not sure, but i feel as her style is best. And i like it, i want her to stick with it.
if you're having issues with vibrato, experiment with flicking your wrist and holding your thumb and opposing finger against the neck. oh, and consider instead of using all of your fingers, just use the thumb and (whatever you call the finger ya put down on the fingerboard idk) to allow more flexibility in the vibrato

Lillian Beth A lot of singers who have a very soft, breathy voice tend to sound like that, and it is her style of singing. As long as we know what she's saying and I do.
@Socially-Awkward Leila I think sometimes it's a bit too soft to hear, and I have to turn it up. Then at the louder parts it's too loud with the turned up volume and I have to turn it down again. I guess it just needs balance. I love her singing style though.

2 likesthey should be flat, but the need to be at least a cm or so above the piano, so the height comes for the arch of the fingers, you get a much broader range for your fingers to move then

0 likesHonestly, I was taught, and when you have a keyboard with low keys, it's not a huge issue. If you have a keyboard like mine, then yes, it's much easier to play with your wrists up. But if she isn't having any issues, no worries.

While yes, technically speaking, her form may not be the best, I've noticed she focuses more on the feeling of the music. And I speak from experience when I say that you tend to play flatter when you're more into the song. Not only that, she genuinely seems to be enjoying the music and depending on the songs she plays, her form will most likely fix itself. And no, we don't hate you:). You were really nice about the way you said it. Hope this helped.

I can tell you can sing very well, so maybe add a little bit of vibrato just for the extra pizzazz, yanno? Just to enhance the overall performance. Kk I'm done.

94 likes@doddleoddle You shouldn't hold back! You sound amazing! Singing loud is all about breathing, the more air you push out the louder the notes. Look up 'Belly Breathing for singing' or 'singing from your diaphragm', it is super helpful once you learn how to do it!

When you make a cover i feel as if you cover the song to make it your own and that is exactly what shes doing. And a lot of artists like to sing much louder and when she sings it in a much softer tone it gives you a new perspective on the song. As if the lyrics mean something else. Now im not angry about your comment or upset. Im just stating the facts.

0 likesif you're having issues with vibrato, experiment with flicking your wrist and holding your thumb and opposing finger against the neck. oh, and consider instead of using all of your fingers, just use the thumb and (whatever you call the finger ya put down on the fingerboard idk) to allow more flexibility in the vibrato
