random recommendation for anybody in the comments:
there's a band called cimorelli, they're based on youtube but their music is on other platforms like spotify and itunes. they write some really emotional songs and i just think they have really incredible voices. it's a group of six sisters, all biologically related (two of them have branched out to writing their own EPs/albums, and they have published solo songs but still under the band name on two of their albums/EPs). if you want to start listening to their music, i recommend alive and acid rain, there's a lot of other really good songs but those two are very emotional and very good.
on one of their EPs, they wrote some spoken word poetry so out of those i highly recommend "minefield", 10/10 will make you cry.
they also have songs that don't fill you with feels but where's the fun in that.

ok so i’ve loved lewis for the whole of this year, but when this song came out, i cried, and cried and cried. his vocals and the most beautiful strings tied in with the piano. i fell in love. my whole heart fell for this song. it’s heartbreakingly stunning. definitely worth a listen.

ok i must admit, it was a hard year, but josephine’s music made it so much easier to cope with and get through. this is one of my favourite sad songs and will hold a very close place in my heart. (similarly to how holes does with dodie).
- wildfire by syml.
so brian has meant a lot to me and my close friend, we got the chance to see him live together for the first time. there was lots of tears, it was a perfect evening. again this song means so much to me and i’m very appreciative of it. “you are needed here, you are enough”. lyrics which say it all really. keep fighting, you’ve got this.

well i’m really feeling the sad songs lately. if you’ve ever seen eden live you’ll know his shows are the most powerful and emotive. the lighting is a whole other level, i’ve personally never seen something so beautiful - i had tingles all down my spine for the entire performance. gravity is this perfect song, you hear the emotions strain in jonathan’s voice, from this mere silhouette, the build up, it gets more passionate, more beautiful. it’s like an uphill fight. you just keep going to defy gravity. “i know it’s hard but nobody said it’s easy”.

I know this was posted in January but if you like these artists, I recommend Unknown Mortal Orchestra, they are ever so slightly more upbeat but a lot of their songs are really calming, my favourite at the moment by them is Chronos Feasts on His Children. Strange title but I can get hooked on 3 songs by them at a time. 😍

my favourite this year is definitely Tamino, a belgian/egyptian singer songwriter who uses a lot of north african influences in his music and it’s just absolutely beautiful. the independent wrote a great piece about him and I am so in love with him. also he’s only 21 years old how??? definitely go listen to his debut album Amir. please!!!!

I recommend The Perfect Life Does Not Exist, Whipping Boy and Sad Rude Future Dude but literally all of their tunes are gold so yeah have a great time listening to them!!!!!

Music I can recommend (to Dodie and everyone else):
I think that dodie would really enjoy jazz music, particularly female vocalists and I think the best place to start would be Billie Holliday's Lady in Satin album or literally anything by the actual QUEEN Sarah Vaughan

Also, Amy Winehouse. Amy Winehouse!! AMY WINEHOUSE. I must clarify though, her studio releases aren't half as good as her acoustic and live performances, now THOSE really will change your life whoever the fuck you are. I reccomend her Dingle and orange lounge performances, they are the most magical

I also really recommend Lily Allen, some of her songs REALLY REALLY remind me of Dodie, I reccomend her songs Littlest Things, Apples, Family Man, 22 and The Fear. She's got such an angelic voice but she's also an absolutely spectacular lyricist, I really reccomend her.

Also, Abbey Glover, who's a YouTuber and she's got an album coming out soon and her voice is just so emotional and profound y'all need to listen to her

It's so interesting how music has the power to affect our moods. Not only that, but how the same piece of music can invoke different feelings and memories, within each of us. With this in mind, I've started a little thing at work recently where I've asked people for a list of songs that make them feel happy. I've asked for their favourite songs too, as sometimes these actually don't bring happiness. It's been really interesting; listening to a song whilst thinking about how it makes someone else feel. It makes you realise the power of music (and also helps you get to know people better!) :)
