"You just motorboated a titty tree." Fluttershy: "I'd like to be a tree."
Wait, I just realized, this movie has a unicorn becoming human, going through an existential crisis, singing songs, and getting a human love interest for no reason. THIS MOVIE IS EQUESTRIA GIRLS!
It was not really for no reason here. I think the love interest thing, added to the message and drama at the end. Showing that there are sometimes hard decisions. And not always everything will turn out 100% fine. It added to the character arc of the last unicorn.
Honest answer: This WAS my first unicorn movie and got me into being a horse girl, and for that it will always have a special place in my heart. The animation is stunning in it's own way and many of the animators went on to be part of Studio Ghibli. It does suffer somewhat in translation because, well... It was very much a book first, and some things just aren't going to translate great from book to film. But when what made the book great manages to shine through here (Molly's 'Where have you been?!' part is a shining example, a wonderful metaphor for fame, fortune, love, anything desperately wanted that comes later in life after a long time waiting), it's hard to rival.
I've loved this movie forever. Some of the dialogue is maybe too grand because it came from a novel, but when Molly Grue is shouting at the Unicorn for coming to her when she's a broken down woman instead of a young, hopeful girl, it always brings me to tears.
The Last Unicorn is one of my all time favorite animated fantasy movies! I mean the story alone is awesome and interesting a unicorn embarking on a dangerous quest to find out what happened to the rest of her kind, In my opinion that's a movie worth watching!
OH MAN, I thought for a moment it was Unicorn Wars and I almost lost my mind–
That one is in Spanish as it was made by shared effort of Spanish and French studios. It's really REALLY graphic and it's fcks with your head, specially it's ending.
100/10 would recommend, the animation it's awesome too and there shouldn't be a problem finding subtitles for it!
Now all we need is a dubbed version with a MLP unicorn characters lines for this unicorn character. Lol ideally Rarity would be the first pick. Dare i say, FIW version of Luna and her Danny Phantom art. 😂
These same directors also made an animated Lord of the Rings movie. In a sad bit of irony, Tolkien himself hand-picked Christopher Lee to play Gandalf, but it never happened.
Also, the king said, "four men at arms," not "four minute arms."
I saw this film when I was a kid once and it bored me to death. But now, watching it again, with your reaction, I goota say this movie is kinda cool, as it breaks some typical movie tropes. And the athmosphere is so calm and peaceful and the music really adds to the tone. Though, the main character could have had a stronger personality.
I have been begging my sister to watch this with me for a year my mom refuses to ever see it again... because of the tree... but i haven't told my sister about that yet... any way I love the deep existential messages of the movie.
Only thing I hate is 'Now that I'm a woman' is sung by someone different compared to the original release. I remembered it being light and magical, not sounding so sorrowful.

You can hear the original reprise in 'that's all I've got to say' that's started by Lear a bit later.
What about ounce upon a forest
