Man.. love you channel.. can you please organize your videos into playlist and tutorials.. would watch ever single one of them repeatedly..😁 keeping doing the good work..
I get it that one can give access to their device just by plugging into an unknown charging adapter , but is it still possible when our smartphones by default use the charge only option when plugged in to a computer like device
Nope... many modern USB chargers need data to function. Sometimes, there has to be an exchange of information between the device and the charger, before a power mosfet switches on to allow power input (like tristar on apple devices). I agree that this practice is kinda scammy, but I also know that some chargers are shit, have too much ripple on the output or their current waveform is really ugly and ripply. Some chargers have a specific charge profile which is decided upon negotiation with the device. Long story short, you can’t just strip pins away like that.
That's not correct ... Modern Phones/OS's have this protection software site integrated. Android for example: If you connect your phone with a Computer or a "Charger" You mentioned, the OS make a alert and block the dataaccess till you accept it via the settings or pop up... this is since Android 4.1 useless
IphoneOS have this protection since generation one
Thats not the point, thats is a SOFTWARE block, but this is a hardware block. Meaning its physically, literally impossibe to get access. A zero day attack could lead a data connection in software. So it is still correct
Duck Meat I don’t know about androids but with iPhones it is a hardware block, the hardware aka the port wouldn’t accept any data unless you say you trust the device. The usb cannot hack the phone because the phone won’t take any data or share any unless you type in your password and say you trust the device. It can be hacked but for me it’s impossible because I wouldn’t trust a random charger sharing info but clueless iPhone users might be hacked but it’s their fault.
@Ikeda Kazuto if there is a switch, its a hardware block. If you just press "no" then software can make it say "accept" it might be difficult to hack, but it doesnt mean that its safer than using a physical connection. So its not impossible, its just improbable. This adapter makes it impossible
Duck Meat You don’t understand, how can an adapter make the phone say yes when the phone’s data transfer is disabled? The only way to hack it is if the user is stupid or the phone is already infected with a virus that enables the data transfer port
@Ikeda Kazuto no i was saying if theres an adapter then its IMPOSSIBLE for there to be data transfer. If you just block it through spfrware then its POSSIBLE. either by a virus that prevents a data safeguard, or a zero day attack
If I remember correctly it will completely ignore any incoming protocol so you are right you can't be hacked this way also I wouldn't trust an adapter like this since the data pins are used by chargers to manage how much current the phone is allowed to take
You're correct, current gen phone Operating systems has this protection and I don't think anyone could bypass it since it won't take anything in or out, it only charges the device
@Duck Meat I find it totally useless to most people, just use your own charging block and not waste $10. And even so, an attack like that is very unlikely as there is an intrinsically low chance someone would unknowingly use it
Yeah, you can't get hacked but the phone is hardly charged either. The data pins are set to certain voltage levels to communicate with the device the max current the charger can handle. Without this communication, the usb standard, i believe only supports 100 or 400 mA. (I'm not sure about the exact value ut its fairly minimal) Wouldn't it be more feasible to attach low pass filtering to the data pins to let pass through a constant voltage level but not the high-speed differential usb communication signal? 🤔
Well, many phones use data pins to determine if they should charge with certain power. Let's say, as an example, if I plug a phone that supports voltages between 5 and 12 volts, and the power supply (aka charger block) can provide them, this little accessory will probably prevent the phone from fast charging, not to say, from charging at all. Meanwhile, if you just plug it normally, the power supply will vary it's output as the phone requires
@Rishikesh Desai USB Battery Charging Specification, Qualcomm Quick Charge upto version 3(AFAIK) uses data pins. On the other hand, Dash charge on Oneplus uses a standard 3.0 USB connector even though it's a 2.0 cable and uses one of the extra pins to specify if the cable supports the high current needed. Type-C has the CCx pins for negotiation of PDOs, but it's irrelevant for the connector shown in the video.
My Aviation Channel It’s not meant to stop your own computer from accessing data on your phone it’s designed to protect against other people’s equipment which you might plug your stuff into. In other words it’s not for use at home, just while you’re out and about although most phones ask if you want to allow data access/trust the device anyway.
Quite frankly the type of person who would be paranoid enough to use one of these gadgets for security reasons would probably also be paranoid of ruining their phone batteries through fast charging anyway.
But some phones require some voltages on data lines like 3.3 volts or even lower to make a stable connection and increase charging current, some powerbanks modules just short data+ and data - to achieve that
but, data ports are required in order to switch fast charging mode or determine how much Ampere device can handle. Otherwise you'll be stuck with 5v 0.5a usb standard charge
Yeah pretty cool gadget but it is not compatible with fast charging devices (since there is no data pins to comunicate with the charging block and the phone or tablet)
Isn't there a option on the phone it's when a cable is connected, whether it'll use that connection for data transfer or charging only? Can hackers bypass that when I set it to charging only?
I know preventing it via hardware is best but just wanted to know this.

If usbs doesn’t use the data lines at any point of the charging process, can’t you make a usb cable dedicated for charging(or cut the data lines)?
Edit: I know it might be a waste of a usb cable but wouldn’t that be even cheaper?
Completely unnecessary unless you have a very out of date iPhone or Android. Even then... These Apple wall chargers are impossible to take apart and put back together looking good.
Wait they are probably adding your data to a base every time u use this and It’ll probably ruin ur phone or charge slowly also don’t flex that apple charger in me please it’s worth as much as my phone
If you're doing this, then you loose the possibility of charging your phone at rated current, some phones if not all phones have their own methods of using data pins to detect compatiblity or charge at higher current with the default being 250 - 300mA, the USB charging standard requires you to connect the two data pins together.. but phones like apple and samsung use different approaches to push their chargers as supported ones.. using type-c is a different story though.. I know you can use this outside.. i am just stating the limitations to this method..
I have never thought "oh someone elses charger lets fucking plug half of mine in" this is useless unless you really need to charge your phone in a rental car which is very unlikely to be modified.
@NAIL can you read ma man I said it's used to communicate with the charger at what rate the device can charge otherwise it just falls back to usb standard
I think to charge an iPhonethe original charger send to Watts for something via the data cables to the iPhone and then iPhone starts to accept the charge
So if I am correct this device is incompatible with an iPhone
Are fucking kidding me? This exploit is from 2012, and was fixed almost immediateley. Any android phone from android 4 onwards and what ever ios was up to date then fixes this by asking the user wether he wants to use usb for data transmission or simply to charge. I will believe you that there is a way to circumvent this if you actually show it working.
Just set your phone to change only and if it asks if you want to ‘trust’ the device say no. If it doesn’t give you any of these options then you don’t need to do anything as the charging station is obviously already safe.
This is a joke. The data blockers would work but you can’t get hacked if you plug in to a normal charging brick into the wall if you make sure it’s a genuine apple one.

1 likeI was just waiting to hear “crypto out”
0 likesYo crypto are iPhones at risk from this attack. They say you need to trust the device before it allows data. Is it possible for malware to bypass this?
0 likesReplies (2)
There's always the possibility, that there are bugs or backdoors before or in the routine that is checking for trust.
3 likesSo the answer is maybe.
Best is always to reduce the attack surface.
Doenside is that this approach likely will prevent quick charging.
Its possible, this attack in any instance is going to be extremely rare.
