I wish I could spend more time with you

Well, I don't know how others feel about this, but bear with me, I'll try to explain myself. I know - KNOW - that you are not my friend, that you might never meet meet me, and even if we do meet, I'll only probably wave at you from the distance because I'm not fond of crowds, (and also, I'm not exactly your core audience :D) but you are a sunshine in my life, and every video you make is a piece of happiness that brightens my day.
So if and when I meet you - and I'm brave enough - I'll be more than content to just let you know in a few words, maybe a small gift, that I appreciate you being you. I know it's not much, and maybe both of us feels a bit sad about that, but I also know that you will get the same kindness from very many other people, whose life is better because of you. And I would like to hope, that I was (will be if we meet) a teenytiny part of that smile on your face, or that one word in your song, or just simply the will to make this as long as you want to. I don't know if this conveys what I mean, but I'm not nearly eloquent enough to do better :D

There's part of me that watches YouTube videos (yours included) and thinks, "If I knew that person in real life, I'd want to be friends with them." That being said, I fully understand that YouTubers don't actually know me. My passive thinking that we might be friends under different circumstances does not translate to (insanely) thinking that when we meet, we will instantly become friends.

I've never met you, but I'm sure you're doing your best :)

I've been one of those invisible Youtube viewers for years who occasionally comments, and while I know viewing someone's edited video of them saying things that only show a snippet of their full personality, I still have such an urge to be friends with so many of you. Especially you, Dodie, you seem so genuinely kind, sweet, humble, and all around nice. (I tried to write that without coming off as creepy...)

I've tried to not get too engulfed by the Youtube world, but with the last few months being a bit rough, watching someone I adore talk and just be really nice cheers me up. It's simple and clean, unlike how real life has been of late.

Don't know what I wanted to say with this, buuut...keep on doddling, Dodie. :) x

you say your just average but average doesn't mean boring. you may not be the tallest woman in the world with a place in the guiness book of world records, or have won an olympic medal but so many 'average' people are amazingly talented and have wonderful things to say, the only reason you're different to all the amazing, clever, talented people who watch you videos is that you decided to share things with your viewers and somehow be a real human being on our screens (which I assume is quite difficult at some points) Idon't know how much of this made sense but anyway, tank you.

I know exactly what you mean! I've had an issue for the past year or so where, because I stand on the threshold between viewer, and creator, I never truly know where I stand with people? There are people that I've met (you included) that have these large audiences, and like... they know who I am; they could pick me out of a crowd; they would happily come up and talk to me if I saw them somewhere, but like... are we friends? It's difficult to know whether they do truly see you as a friend (or at least a relatively close acquaintance), or whether they're just extending you the same courtesy that they would any other viewer, because as you say, it's pretty much impossible to have hundreds of thousands of friends.

Regardless, you're a lovely human, who 100% deserves all of this, and the picnic thing is a great idea! ^-^

I feel like this video sums up why you're one of my favorite youtubers. You're so genuine and anyone can tell that you really truly care about the people who support you and the fact that you even felt the need to make a video about this just proves how much you care and it's so lovely to see. I love that you addressed this. I haven't had many opportunities to meet creators that I admire or have watched for a long time, but I did get to meet George Watsky after the I saw him play last year. I was so happy and excited to see the show and to get a chance to say hi. But I left feeling strange and over the course of the next few weeks felt very disappointed, and actually didn't enjoy listening to his music for a few months afterwards. And it wasn't as if he was rude or unfriendly, because he wasn't at all, he was really nice. But it is difficult walking up and talking to somebody who you feel like you have spent hours or years listening to or watching and having the reality hit you that they have absolutely no idea who you are. It can make you feel small, and for me, it affected the connection I felt to his music. Because in reality, the relationship between a creator and a viewer in a lot of ways only exists in your little world. We watch and listen to people who we enjoy and generally are people we believe we could be friends with, have similar values to, or who we feel like understand us. For these reasons and a few others, I haven't made much of an effort to go to large youtube meet ups such as Vidcon or Playlist Live, even though I have been actively watching youtube for 5 years or so. Instead, lately, I've been thinking about posting videos of my own and really working on my own youtube channel, that maybe that is how I can put myself out there and share my voice and help me feel like more of a part of this community that has felt so important to me for so long.

The picnics thing is definitely a good idea! I was at the Cardiff sitc warm up gig and being able to spend a little bit of time with you guys before was so nice and it felt like we got a chance to sort of see you if you literally just took away the camera from the middle of the situation and I feel like that's what the picnics would be like. It's also a much nicer way of doing things than having a huge meet up with loads of people (which just get a little bit crazy, let's be honest). It really felt like we could just sort of chill for a bit which was nice.

Also, you are far from average, but that's a whole different story x

Nah, you’re entirely lovely :) no need to be so critical of yourself! Average doesn’t do you justice. Consider what sort of person would make a video like this one that you have. There are plenty of youtubers and scientists and artists who I look up to and I wish I could get to know, but none of them have been so brave and so humble as to put the longing regret you just expressed out there, one which given circumstance, anybody would be powerless to change. Not only are you incredibly talented, but as little as it’s possible for any of us to know you from afar, you’re head and shoulders above the moral, compassionate, and caring standards of the masses, and that makes you special. That makes you somebody I’d like to one day meet :) I’m well aware that may never be possible, and likely friendship isn’t within the circumstances set before the majority of us who would want it no less. Don’t let that dishearten you, and we promise we in turn won’t be disheartened :) friendship is the selfish part, meeting you is the selfish part; I’m just happy to know there are people like you out there. Any direct interaction is just the cherry on top!

Great vlog!! I don't completely understand the stage fright thing. I know what a stage fright is myself, but what I don't understand is that when some musicians say they have a stage fright, but finally are able to perform nicely or brilliantly. I know from my own experience that lots of people with a stage fright are not able to perform at all or very bad. Maybe there are many levels of a stage fright. I don't know. In many cases a stage fright will ruin whole performace. But you are able despite the stage fright to perform brilliantly in front of a huge audience. So that's fantastic!

I met you at your Dublin meetup last year and you were soooooo lovely and funny and kind and it's ok if you dont get enough time to talk to everyone at gigs you're on a schedule and that's not your fault :)

Dodie, this video is cute! But to be honest we all love you/want to meet you/want to give you letters and strawberry flavoured everythings because you're not average! I met you in Manchester at the roadhouse. I told you that you inspired me to buy a ukulele. You said you loved my accent and the way I said ukulele. That made my day. I walked out the roadhouse with a massive grin on my face and didn't stop for hours. It was such such a pleasure meeting you. I did a cover of adored by him on my new ukulele.

Its always nice to see that youtubers one enjoys are down to earth and even worry about something like that (not being able to meet/spend time with everyone) but as others have ssaid, I'm sure your fan base here understands. I know that feeling, I met tyler ward a year ago after following him and taking from him for 5 years prior, and then on meeting him there was the issue of the venue having to cycle through people just getting a photo/signing and not doing much for talking. It was a shame but of course he's just a man and I can't be to fanatic, I don't really know him. you're just a girl people may feel fanatic and excited to see you but they don't "really" know you and that's okay, but of course you should continue to be a influence on them (be it positive) and let the fans give you something back!

The idea for picnics and meet ups and whatnot sounds so nice :)) I had so much that I wanted to say to you when I met you in newcastle but I sort of froze when I saw you (lolol that's lame) and hardly said any of it, so don't blame yourself for not having enough time for everyone, because it was my fault that I didn't talk to you for very long, not yours <3 but i'd love to be able to meet you again and maybe be able to chat properly, more than just saying what I wanted to say then getting a quick photo so I don't take any time away from other people waiting hehe, you took a lot of time to chat to all of us though- a lot of people would just take a photo and maybe say thanks for coming, whereas you had a little chit chat with us all which was super lovely :)) (also your set was brilliant and I cried during She because feels) xxx

We spoke once when you were with Bethan at the meet and greet, another time when I got you to sign my friend Izzy's 16th birthday card and then again later when you were talking to Patty and I just want to say thank you because it was my first year at SitC and I was really nervous. But after I'd introduced myself that first time you remembered my name for the whole weekend every time I said hi to you you said "Hey Lydia,"... it may seem like all of what I just said is irrelevant but seriously thank you because it was meeting people like you back in 2013 that made me realise youtubers are normal people and if I wanted to; I could make content too. Oh my gosh I'm the same way about stage fright. My mind is always super calm and collected but my body just freaks out. I'll be waiting my turn to give a presentation or to perform and I'll be thinking "This is great. I've totally got this," while my heart goes "NO WE ARE NOT OKAY IT'S TIME TO PANIC FOREVER!!!!!!"

It is really odd to think about how one-sided YouTube relationships are. They're not like a bad thing, but it's strange to think how I'd totally love to be your friend but you don't know a single thing about me. It's totes cool though, and I understand how complex that is. I'm really glad that you acknowledge it and you're so honest with us about your feelings and what not.

And you totally deserve all the stuff you get. You make great content on your main channel with all your lovely music (Don't even get me started on "She" OH MAN) and you're so lovely. You're very honest about some kind of heavy stuff and it's really nice to have someone to relate to in that regard, and you also are really good at brightening people's days. You're super duper awesome, Dodie!

When you said you don't understand why you deserve the letters and gifts etc-it almost broke my heart. Why? Because you are such a sweet person who has so many valuable pieces of advice whether it be in the form of a vlog or a song; and I know thay was what made me carry on watching after I saw your video for your song Paint. Also, you need to know that, at least for me, just getting to meet you would be enough for me because from that day onwards I can say I have met one of my role models and I know I will smile for the rest of the day if that happens.

Meeting you in Manchester was really great and the way you came out of the venue just so you could continue meeting people was super lovely. Although I think we all were worried about you on those stairs, please be careful! 
I think the way you try to take time to talk to people (and be in their videos when they ask, even though they don't even know what they want you to say - sorry!) and check that everyone is okay and happy just proves that you care and want to make them happy.

I met you and I just straight got a photo and went to leave but I've watched you for years and you are one of my biggest inspirations but I panicked I didn't know what to do >.<

I just moved to London and one night I was out with friends, we were around Piccadilly Circus so I asked them (they don't really watch youtube) if we could go to the Queens theatre because I knew Carrie would have been there after the show and it was the first time I met some youtube creators irl, I thought I could have a photo and just say hello. And that's what we did, but for the rest of the night and kind of also the day after I could not shut up about how weird it was to have actually met her. It was not horrible. It was not amazing. Carrie was really nice (as she always is) but from my side it was just SO weird. It's like you said, it's the feeling you get when you meet a friend from the internet for the first time. And I met friends I got to know on the internet before, and it was the coolest thing ever. With youtube creators it's just really really odd and weird and blaaa.

When I met you I didn't feel this way x I even added in my letter that you seem like such a sincere lovely person, but I know I don't know you so that's not really smart of me to say. totally understand like all of this! everything is like x100 though when you live super far away like over here in australia, and so there are next to no opportunities to meet people you admire :((( sort of amplifies the few times you do meet people though because it's just so super rare. Yeah, this is turning out to be one of those "no one comes to (insert desolate country here)" rants, ah well.
