These days I generally agree. I’ve had to prevent my dad from considering registry cleaners, knowing how dangerous they can be. In some ways I kind of miss the days of manually tweaking startup files, as it forced people to know what they’re doing, while novice users wouldn’t even bother. Win / win.

20:39 If you're unsure, you can always check the network tab (which is right across from the sources tab) and look for any network traffic, such as requests sent or received, that may indicate that the site is actively getting the user count. If nothing is present, try checking the application tab and looking for service workers that may relate to this as well. If nothing shows up, chances are it's fake as it's impossible to get the number of users online without connecting to a server.

Is Razer Cortex considered a PC optimizer? It boosts my fps a lot on older games that run on the Source engine (like 40 to 90fps) and the only thing I find suspicious is that process in the background called game scanner or something that takes up alot of memory.

I got sucked into Iobit when I was just in high school, idk why I was so amazed at such products. I eventually bought my own subscription during a holiday sale...

After I realized it was bunk when Driver Booster killed my audio drivers, I uninstalled everything on all PCs. My oldest PC actually got faster without all this unnecessary bloatware.

A while ago I used iobit systemcare all the time until I started noticing Windows registry errors and nonsense slowdowns, I formatted the computer and tried it 1 month without the optimizer, what a scam these things are.

The computer was running better without the "optimizer".

Fun fact: Some of these softwares showed on this video are still supported by Windows XP!
Also, I use IOBit Uninstaller because I like their batch uninstall feature.

I once tried installing ccleaner on my pc since I had a ton of junk files. They completely deleted every word document, excel spreadsheet, image, and all that stuff. That's all they did. These companies, and their software, is just shit.

I love those pop ups on random websites that ask you to call a random number considered as an “engineer” saying your pc will malfunction in 5 mins…

Driver booster isn't a scam, it helps when I can't find a driver, but you should uninstall immediately after use

When i reinstall windows for some reason i usually install drivers using driver booster launcher by iobit but i always uninstall it once it installed the drivers because it usually just pops up out of nowhere

I used to always use these driver apps, and I always had to do a system restore after because my PC BSOD.

Growing up I thought these things worked, until I got older and started buying my own computers. Then realized that you get what you pay for hardware wise, and nothing is "slowing" down your computer.

I actually used driver booster recently and saved me a lot because I installed the graphics driver from device manager and the processor started to work at minimum frequency, even in high load. Then I installed drv booster and updated the driver without having to pay nothing, it doesn't even asked me.
That thing happened a week ago. Anyways, I will try the software that you said in the description

Optimizers? More like PC slowers. Windows tools can already complete the job without any fear of ads and bloatware. Really, don't install these, they're just slowing down your PC and eating up your precious SSD/HDD.

The video really helps when it comes to these stuff, my Grandparents don't really know much about technology so they click on every single ad that pops up. Always question a program that promises to optimize your pc. That is something that you should research and do yourself.

Driver Booster is perfectly fine in my opinion, I use a portable version on a USB stick when I'm out working on someone else's computer. It's a quick and easy way to get all the necessary drivers installed correctly. Hasn't given me any problems yet.

Also, i finally know AVG is:
- Antivirus software
- Scareware (popups)
- Optimizer semi-malware (does not infect, but still ridiculus)
- Pay2Use as well (prompts after EVERY scan and when i close out, it tells me "oh hey, here is your free trial, just put ur credit card number")

Driver booster costed me 3 formats on my PC although it's my fault for believing that Iobit's softwares are reliable

I remember when 50 Adwares used to popup on my crappy 2gb ram pc and used to destroy the ram.

As the tech guy of the family, Driver booster came in clutch in fixing driver related problems many times, like a broken camera or finger print scanner or audio. It saves you the hassle of looking for the driver manually. And then ofcourse uninstall right after you update the desired driver.

Personally used driver booster but NEVER paid for them, always pirated and only used to update my drivers/device software 😅

I use driver Booster to update my drivers since 2014. And I'm having no issues! I'll never had a problem or anything like that.
And I'll never used the premium version.
Back in the 2.5 - 3.8 versions the program was soooooo goood. And I use the program often since I format or i change my os often.

These programs actually do as they advertise... but they are basically just adware. The problem is that windows has all the features that these programs lock behind a paywall. For example, windows had the disk cleanup tool.

I think this is the reason a lot of people want it to be cracked, and used the PRO version for free.

ikr, i used 3 different driver updaters for testing purposes, my laptop touchpad is completely unusable now also i have to use an external mouse now, the driver is impossible to re download now, just avoid getting any of them, one of them even automatically downloaded a vpn, i had to re download my keyboard driver again every single time i used these type of software, DO NOT EVER DOWNLOAD THIS JUNK, I REPEAT, DO NOT EVER DOWNLOAD THIS JUNK, YOU’RE GOING TO FACE MORE DAMAGE THAN HELP, i have already told my sister that an actual life hack is to never download these pieces of garbage

i hate when theres these articles about pc issues (or just any issues) but the articles are made by companies like these that make weird suspicious software
so they are gonna give you petty troubleshooting tips and somewhere, they suggest you to download their program which can fix everything for you

Driver booster is actually very useful if you need drivers for old gpu that arent available anymore.

The Asampoo WinOptimizer is okay - it didn't improve performance but it comes with many handy tools that I like. At least in the 2016 version. In newer versions (I've only tracked it until 2019, due to a paywall between every update) it just lined itself in with all the antivirus apps, from a design standpoint. That means that they removed the useful utilities tab (as far as I could see, maybe they have just hidden it away) in 2017 and with that made the program practically unusable for me.

When I was 9(?), I tried getting free Minecraft. I installed something, and it changed my web browser from Google to another browser. It sucked, and was annoying to use. My brother, being the tech guy of the family, helped me uninstall it. 3 months later, my computer had malware on it. We use Bitdefender Antivirus. My computer would not turn on at all. When I logged in, the screen would go black. I couldn't even turn it off properly.

What's this called, and was this the right thing to do?

I once used a driver installer (it was a video driver). Guess what? The PC got a BSOD on every boot and had to go to safe mode. Don’t use driver installers. Only if they are from your computer manufactuer (like Dell SupportAssist)

My mother has a really old laptop. It was supposed to run windows 7 but she just updated it to 10. (and has the newest updates) She knows her computer is slow, and oh boy her computer is FULL TO THE BRIM with these shitty programs.

I remember that Ccleaner was really good, at least for me (it did have the odd thing time to time but they were correct, mainly cause my old laptop was full of viruses lmao.)

true.... iobit's softwart actually rosted my pc, my forza horizon got flashback after i optimize. Took me such a long time to restore whole system

The only optimisation tool you should ever use is the pre installed windows disc cleanup feature, which is also a bit useless because it normally doesnt clean nearly as much as it says. If you have a laptop or prebuild you can also use the tools from the compamy you buyed it form, for example dells support assist works really well for me, i normally get the drivers windows update doesnt find and the disc cleanup also works (i am not sure if the other stuff actually does anything)

Driver Booster is actually a nice driver updating software without these ads. It just update the drivers like expected for free (at least for Driver Booster 6). I usually use it when I install Windows on old computers and uninstall it when done (Windows Update just sucks, it installs the oldest drivers possible and not all drivers are installed).

In terms of CCleaner for PC
While unfortunate that it was bought out resulting in typical paid options being added, it's free cleaning function is still quite useful

Although, in my experience, driver updaters are almost not worth it
Snappy Driver Updater (SDI) is completely free and can be useful in acquiring missing drivers
BUT
Sometimes changing out a driver can have catastrophic effects

this is why i only use Open Source things

Microsoft released their own PC optimiser with Windows 11.
The days of CCleaner and other similar apps have ended.

i mean WinOptimizers were popular and useful during XP era, like CCleaner was pretty good software before avast aquisition. Remember XP toolkit and similar? For the IObit - there, they also were good - especially defragmenter, but sure their programs were good, if bundled with PC magazines.

Diskeeper 18 and Vlocity 7 by condusiv technologies are not scams they actually work. See for yourself. When you have a chance. Its I/O reduction software. As well as an optimizer.

Fun fact: my parents have a laptop with a 1.3 GHz processor and a slow HDD. Someone told to her to install these IOBit software on the PC.
Spoil: it did not optimise the PC.
And they abandoned it. And, 1 year and months later, I take this same laptop with this installation.
Now, I still use this laptop with a SSD but it still running slow because of that processor. And I don't use this crap.

For those having trouble with driver booster, go into settings & then scan & scroll down to a checkbox that say "only display drivers that pass WHQL tests" WHQL (windows hardware quality lab) testing is microsoft's process which involves running a series of tests on 3rd party hardware or software. WHQL will ensure the stability and the security of drivers updated. If you choose to update drivers not passed WHQL tests, you may encounter unstable, incompatible issue, even system malfunction

Actually we can say the epidemic is much bigger because most people think they need software for every single task while in reality Windows has most of the features with some exceptions built in. Then that slows down their PCs and then they are tricked even easier into getting these PUPs.

I had problems with Driver Booster too. The drivers slowed down my PC and my internet speeds, it would disconnect me from the internet constantly.
I got into a meaningless argument with my internet service provider because of it. I fixed it by re-installing windows, DO NOT TRUST THESE OPTIMIZERS !

the installer on your description is literally the same as those websites you showed, so I'm confused. very little work on the interface and even after downloading the application and opening it, it's built like a virus.

I always wondered why registry keys can slow down your pc, if a program needs a key, it knows the exact location of it. I once wrote a program for my pc to clean my registry, which removed ~500 keys and it didnt do anything. I know a program is a scam if it tells my about the mighty registry.

hello enderman, I just wanted to say that not all pc optimizers are ripping you off, for example there's something called hone discord tweaks (there's a video by someone called intel edits on how to use it) and it actually unironically boosts your computer's performance. I've seen an increase of about ~40% fps since I installed it.

Lol driver booster is not optimisation and it's definitely not a scam. I use it all the time to update drivers because it's simpler and easier than downloading each driver and updating them each individually.

My dad had Driver Booster 9 on his PC. I kept telling him it was a PUP and not a good program and he didnt believe me. It was until Driver booster updated his ethernet and wifi drivers he started to believe me becouse wifi and ethernet just stopped working on his PC no matter what he did.

The iobit one isn't actually that bad. I've used it a couple of times and sure, it has a few typical aka ads stuff, but it's fine.

1.5/2 computer technicians agree that Windows update is the best driver updater out there.

On a serious note windows update keeps the drivers up to date just fine and has only failed...a few times in my experience. Either because the manufacturer shipped a buggy driver or...well that's about it.

As a user of driver booster around 2018 i remember it prompting you to install a patch for the intel vulnerability, when clicking the update button it would take around 10-15 minutes, i have no idea what it did since patches should be installed automatically from windows update

The only time I had to use a driver installer software was when an Nvidia driver simply refused to be installed on a Windows 8.1 installation. Then once I had some 2013 driver installed thanks to that utility, the latest driver installed successfully.

IObit is actually not bad if you need auto driver updater. I use it all the time for new windows installs.
It saves a lot of time. Just be careful while installing, sometimes they ship PUPs with their installers.
They also have a decent uninstaller, if you require one.
Never use their advanced system care program, or whatever it's called, it's just as useless as every other program in this video.

I can tell you from for a fact Iobit Advanced system care is not a scam. ihave used it for 7 years had no problems an my pc has run like a champ.

I haven't heard of most of the later ones, but I do admit to using Driver Booster. I used to use their ASC and Uninstaller, but not for a long time now. CCleaner only runs if I'm ever using Tronscript, but that's it.

I use something called Snappy Driver Installer, it actually helps update drivers and it's free, works and doesnt scare or whatever. unless someone knows something shady or bad about it please tell me

CCleaner just cleans off unused cache files, might actually help if you running out of disk space.

I just pirate most of those bad bois for when I need them ASAP, then I uninstall them, or just make portable versions. Either way, works out for me.

I've seen so many people using DriverUpdate (or have used DriverUpdate in the past before their AV caught it, it got removed by the various small computer repair shops that exist out there, or it was removed from the computer by the user or their younger more techy friends or family members) it's not even funny.

I’ve been using it since 9 years and faced problems rarely. The problem is that you need to install 50+ drivers manually and you need to graduate from computer engineering in order to be able to update it all. Windows update sucks too. A pc user HAS to use it tbh.

I use some IObit stuff, but nothing related to PC speed or drivers. Just the defragment and uninstall tools. So not everything they do is crap I'd say. I don't pay for any of the "premium" full versions of course.

This is also the same case as in android. Lots of optimazer apps all of which doesnt work. You dont need optimizer for android, android can optimize itself using its trash collector. What this optimizers do is just slows down everything since it has to run on the background which will consume resources to your phone....

He installed it on my computer and it was so intrusive with everything; I would usually set NO apps to start at bootup but IOBit Uninstaller would always popup despite setting it to not start on bootup-- it would start by showing MY IP ADDRESS (I could be instantly DDoS'ed if I was streaming.) and saying to buy their shitty VPN service and then randomly intrude to buy their Computer Booster service horseshit.

Safe to say, it was satisfying to IOBit using it's own Uninstaller.

don't say that PC optimizers are a scam, they're not. they help you install drivers and clean registry and increase FPS in games.
i don't even use windows i use GNU/Arch Linux but i still use PC optimizers in wine, and it helps so much. My FPS in fortnite is usually 25 - 30 but with optimizer its 30 - 40.

Driver booster actually ruins your drivers, because they get updates that probably aren't supported yet for your pc/laptop so I had to create a restore point because it fucked up my sound driver and graphics card, total scam. I rather update it from official website and when notified also.

Ive been using IObit's software for years now. They are a bit scammy, however their software itself is pretty solid and useful. Even if the initial premise of the software is bullshit, they do contains additional features which are actually useful. So i wouldnt say its useless.

I actually used to use that software back in 2019 to install the driver i need, for some reason windows won't automatically install driver with correct resolution, and i dont know how to install it from Nvidia's website, I uninstalled the software after i ise it tho. They give you the option to refuse installation of the bundleware unlike some other programs. I buy the pro version for convenience. Everyone having problems with Driver Booster, enable WHQL in settings. It will now only download Windows verified and tested drivers. You shouldn’t have any stability issues. IObit is not malware. But I wouldn’t pay premium free versions are fine.

i remember getting convinced by an "GoAnimate" video about an dead OS then antiviruses appear (especially CCleaner) to clean the OS and made it alive again, and once i got a pc, thats where i downloaded CCleaner but later on i just uninstalled it

A hacker once installed the "Garbage Cleaner" app on my windows 7 PC, giving me ransomware.
I've been forced into using windows 10 now(btw I had enterprise of 7 so I was still able to get updates considering the school who gave me the pc already entered the plan for enterprise edition updates when they gave me it.). but not after a solid half year of still using the pc(IGDM Ransomware can't get into the Program files/Program files (x86) folder so I installed everything I wanted there and after I became unable to access my ethernet on the pc I decided to just ask my mom if I could use her phone to install stuff i wanted(I rarely ever needed .exe files) and USB Transferred them into C:\Program files (x86)(this was where most apps installed)\downloads)

5:22 iObit's driver booster was something I once used, one incident was updating a graphics driver. It was updating it and as it was installing it disabled my graphics driver and became unresponsive. I had to force reboot my computer, thankfully the driver never applied. All I can say is DO NOT USE DRIVER UPDATING SOFTWARE. Do not end up in my situation thinking you broke your pc because a software possibly gave you the wrong driver.
Edit: also never use anything iObit, they will spam you with system popups with scareware which is for their other dumb products. To this day, I only use the uninstaller. Nothing else

You are right that these are PUP, Bloatwares and Adwares, but they do their job, to define them scam or rogues it's a bit exaggerated. Chrome was bundled with crapwares but does it make a scam? Of course not. The driver downloaders will update all your drivers to last version with one click, this can be handy to save time, low-tech people or elders, beside all the annoyng ads and "switch to pro" buttons. Cleaners will save hundreads of GB to people that don't clean their temp files manually after decades, (just the reputable ones,if it's poorly written or obsolete it will destroy your PC). In conclusion, we have to acknowledge that we are dealing with a PUP, so keep it if we can stand the banners and the BUY NOW buttons and purchase it only if we think the programmers deserve it if the price is legit.

No buys pc optimization programs, people just pirate it for fun or believing that it really works and it ends by deleting them :D
