@Vitural Realism No. Passwords aren't stored on the server anywhere. They are hashed and salted and turn into fixed length. See "How Not to Store Passwords" by Computerphile (Tom Scott)
You don’t need some super long password, there’s a reason you can only try to log into many websites before they lock your account, it’s to prevent brute force methods like he shows the time for here never been hacked with the same password since I was a kid
@Bosspandalover brute force isn't used anymore. They hack into the data base and then they are able to try passwords as much as they want, avoiding the brute force barrier. I think lol
@Fernando Stefanovic No, if youre talking about a data dumb, then sure they could take that encrypted file and try all they want, but I can promise you, no hacker is getting into a data base and brute forcing passwords, its social deception or data base leaks, which is why you should change your password often, but no one is gonna be able to "hack the mainframe"
@Fernando Stefanovic passwords are stored hashed in the database unless you are really unlucky. Databases are dumped often but if you have a very very good password you are safer. All password cracking is still brute force
@w yes I think people are missing just how long 16 characters will take to crack if it's sufficiently complex. Business make a limit to avoid a constant barrage of forgotten password requests and locked accounts
@Bosspandalover also a reason to have a different password for every account since once a password is cracked it'll be likely tried everywhere and added to the database of cracked passwords
A lot of places have a character limit, so I just set my password manager to generate passwords of around 12-16 chars. My stuff I can't afford to lose access to has a passphrase, though.
I use apple’s keychain “strong” passwords suggestions autofill. For my main password I use a passphrase. Apart from the liability of the obvious “weak link”, what is your take on keychains security?
oh yes, i do this on my roblox account, with symbols, spaces, numbers, random Capital letters, paraphrases, all the shit to the password guessers. (I have antivirus, common sense, 2SV on Roblox, Account PIN, and 2SV on my emails, good luck! :))
There is a reason they recommend RANDOM words... its much easier to crack a password with words commonly put together, like sentences, than just random words.
I used to have my ex's name as password.. then last week I got an OTP in my phone that I didn't ask for.. I got scared and and changed most of my passwords to strong Passphrases.. most words are it even in English.. so it's secure imo
I use passphrases. Since they aren't english phrases either it adds yet another layer of security. To remember which password I used, I have 3 passwords and I just put them based on how much I care about the account.
I use 4 different passwords with 1 specific arrangement of letters on all of them across 50+ accounts only ever got instagram hacked and that was a dummy since i don't actually use instagram for anything other than talking to a friend
I use a rick roll link so if someone asks for password I send them the rick roll and they're like wtf I want the password and they still don't know they got he password lmao
I alway make a passphrase, i base them what i see in front of me, like a pizza box, i'd describe it as short as i can to make it rememberable and strong
Don't worry the passphrase isn't just plain texted but hashed and salted. Watch How not to store password by computerphile.

Archie Jamir - What? That doesn’t matter at all. Maybe you misunderstood, I meant there are super long lists with common passwords. Maybe from previous hacks or because they are just some common words put together. If hackers try to crack a password, and they have to bruteforce, they usually start with those lists. Doesn’t matter if hashed or not.
I would prefer to know the pass phrase.. and i already did use them a lot.. and have a cianide pill always close to my teeth .. and yeah taking the pass phrase with you in your grave.. if burried after , Dimtry gonna have a hard time seeing dying in front of him and going back empthyhanded 😉😂
I tried using :V as a password, and then tried a program to see if it could get my password, and the program gave me no result after 40 minutes of trying
Passphrase; they will only find my passcode if they know my personal info. How would they know it without getting into my account first? Big brain time
Ok using your password on a website to check wether it's good or not not a great idea They might just be adding your given passwords in their dictionary.
Your missing the point of pass phrases, they are supposed to be normal words to make it easy to remember, not use text substitution like 3=e ... and if you can just turn on 2 factor its better than a passphase
So you put your password on a random website to see if it is strong and if the website tells you its strong you use it on your working website.... What a fucking joke
My 8 character pass is good it says on that exact website it would take like 40 million years and it’s a master pass so I edit it for all my accounts like adding 2 numbers and 2 letters that signify what application it’s used for for example Minecraft is masterpass01mc
College? Idk that's the route I took. You can also look at certifications. Even though you might not be getting them, researching each topic itself could help rather than watching random youtube lectures
I hate this term "Passphrase". No a password isn't just 1 word, it just means a string of text used to authenticate an account.
Your passphrase is a password, a passphrase is a subcategory of passwords. I've been using a passphrase since 2014, came up with it independently to secure my minecraft account. I thought it would be easier to remember & I assosoated meaning with the chosen symbols. So I've been a passphraser before it was popular but I'll always just say password.
No, shut up, get a password manager and use completely random 32-letter-long passwords with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters. (BitWarden can generate these for you)
When you are giving a website that can check that your password I secured or not...how can u say that the website has your password but it will do nothing 🧐 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
This is dumb don't do this, use a password manager like a normal person, a passphrase is inly hard to crack only when you use just brute force, newer attacks use dictionaries and combinations of words so basically still insecure.
