I would argue that Twilight's mark would actually fall in the center of the chart, because it represents her talent, what makes her special, and her destiny. The star is supposed to be an image representation of magic. Twilight's biggest talent is her affinity for magic (she learns spells quickly, has the power to teleport, and rewrites magic made by another powerful unicorn). Her magic is also one of the things that make her special, but the mark is also a six pointed star with five smaller stars around it, representing herself and her five friends. Her friends also make her special. Both her affinity for magic and for friendship combine to create her destiny, which was becoming the princess of friendship (and magic, because friendship is magic).
In the same way, Cadance's mark represents her talent for bringing love to people, but also her destiny of becoming the princess of the Crystal Empire (because it's a crystal heart, it represents both). Both of these things also make her special.
I totally agree! I felt that Diamond Tiara's should have been put somewhere else, and as for Rainbow Dash, her destiny is probably to become a Wonderbolt, hence the "fast as lighting" cutie mark. Plus, her talent/destiny is to control weather patterns in Ponyville. Lastly, of course her talent is being super fast, so the lighting fits under that as well. The rainbow is what makes her special, because nopony else can do a Sonic Rainboom, so she fits under all three categories. Just a thought.
I've noticed lately that each cutie mark of The Mane 6 has it's sign multiplied by three. (in Rainbow dash's case it's a dash made of three stripes) I think it also represents their destiny to be a part of a group as friends... The number 3 biblically represents divine wholeness, completeness and perfection.
Twilight's cutie mark should be in the middle, as it represents her destiny, her special talent (magic), and what makes her special (being able to create new spells, which leads to her fulfilling her destiny of becoming an alicorn princess.

In one way, Diamond Tiara's cutie mark could be also a destiny if she follows her father's steps on bring in charge of Ponyvile, or maybe a special talent i leadership. Also Cadence's cutie mark doesn't need analyse at all, it's destiny. It's a crystal heart and as we know she (and spike) saved the crystal empire and now she is ruling it.

A Cutie Mark, or rather the special talent they represent, is not only what a pony is best at, but also what brings them the most joy. This is as often metaphorical as it is literal, Cheerilee makes this point directly in her class on Cutie Marks. Her Cutie Mark is three smiling flowers, which doesn't have any direct relation to teaching. But it doesn't need to be obvious or literal since a pony only gets their Cutie Mark once they realize their special talent, so they already know what it means. Many ponies can and will interpret their Cutie Marks as their destiny but that's not really true, they still choose the direction their lives go in, though their Cutie Mark will strongly influence this.
A perfect example is Rarity. Her special talent is bringing out the beauty in things (not finding gems as many people seem to think). This first manifested in her gem finding spell, allowing her to bring out the beauty of gems hidden in plain rocks, but she does this with everything she encounters, from tree branches (Look Before You Sleep) to bird nests (Winter Wrap Up). She chooses to primarily do this through dress making, though she could have just as easily been a painter, or a sculptor, or even an architect. The same can be said for the rest of the Mane Six and every other pony; Their special talents could have been utilized in other ways than the way they chose.
Cutie Marks are as much skill and temperament as they are magic, but they are definitely magical. When a pony is working in harmony with their Cutie Mark the results range from exceptional to literally magic. We see evidence of this throughout the show whenever a pony's Cutie Mark is lost. Starlight Glimmer's cult thing in The Cutie Map shows this very well, as the Mane Six are unable to utilize their special talents with their Cutie Marks removed. Likewise when Tirek drains a pony's magic in Twilight's Kingdom, their Cutie Mark disappears.
The one way that Cutie Marks are destiny is while a pony can choose how they utilize their special talent, they can't choose not to utilize it; What I've seen referred to as 'Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome': when a pony fails at their special talent or is unable to utilize it they suffer severe mental problems. Examples are Twilight Sparkle in Lesson Zero, Pinkie Pie in Party of One, and Fluttershy in The Best Night Ever.

I think a cutie mark is also a reflection of their soul. you can look at a cutie mark, and with some thought, figure out a pony's basic personality. For example: Fluttershy is similar to her three pinkish butterflies, pink is often a color of positive emotions, while butterflies are often a symbol of gentleness, though they have that 'hidden' power of causing hurricanes with a wing flap, but butterflies are also extremely fragile, and flee from the presence of most people.
I think you're dead on--although I believe there's a little more overlap in the three categories than your analysis reveals. You have to take into account the metaphorical/symbolic nature of the cutie mark. In Diamond Tiara's case, the mark represents destiny, special something and talent combined. Her destiny is probably to inherit her dad's fortune (she's the heir to his throne), her special something is being rich/spoiled and her talent (I would argue) is bossing other ponies around. Silver Spoon's a bit trickier. I think, again, her special something and destiny is that she's born wealthy. Whether there's some kind of talent involved, I don't know. Perhaps we'll find out!
The big purple star is twilight sparkle, all the 5 smaller white stars are the other 5 of the main six, rarity, fluttershy, pinkie pie, rainbow dash, and applejack.
I think Cadence's cutie mark fits in all 3 categories. To spread love is her special talent and no pony else can do that the way she can, so it is also what makes her special. She becomes the crystal princess and her cutie mark is not any heart. It is the crystal heart. So it also represents her destiny. :)

It does seem to depend on the individual. When explaining the concept to non-brony friends I say that it tends to depict a talent, skill, hobby, passion, obsession, personality trait, physical trait, career, family theme, or sometimes just their name. Twist does kinda sum it up well enough, but it's a little vague especially when you're trying to design one. Mine is a cloud in the form of a thought bubble, intended to depict my habit of constant daydreaming and somewhat short attention span. (head in the clouds) I have a bit of trouble depicting it effectively, both in that thought bubbles generally look like clouds anyway so it's hard to distinguish it as being both and also... the orientation of the small puffs. You know, the ones that link the bubble to the head in a comic. If I angle them forward it looks like I'm thinking with my genitals, and if I angle them back it looks like a fart. I might be over thinking that though, I don't know if anypony else would see it that way. Anyway, for Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon I have always seen them as spoiled rich kids, which was kind of confirmed by DT's father being Filthy Rich. Their cutiemarks may be their names, but they are also a depiction of their social status.
Thinking about the last thing I said, remembering something I forgot to say and realising something about them. The accidental omission: Cheese Sandwich. A guy with an absurd name even by Pony standards, and his cutie mark is... his name. But why is it his name? He said nopony knew who he was as a child, I would suppose this to mean he had no friends but it's more than that if they didn't even know what his name was. He later said he was determined to make sure everypony in Equestria would know his name through his party planning efforts. I believe in this way, his mark isn't just a bland depiction of his name, which I previously saw on one-time characters as a bland cop-out to just give them whatever, but rather it's a symbol of his obsession with fame. It is his name because he wants everypony to know his name. This is similar to SilverSpoon and DiamondTiara having their marks just being their names, but their marks really represent their wealth and social status and only look like their names because those were given based on the same thing. So if the Pony's cutie mark looks like just a bland depiction of their name, it may be that for whatever reason their name became a good symbol for their 'special something' and the two merely converged. I guess this becomes a sort of 'don't judge a book by it's cover' lesson, you might meet somepony who's cutiemark is their name and think, 'What a boring person, the most special thing about them is just their name and nothing else.' but really there is a meaningful and personal reason for their name to be on their flank, if one cares to find out.

Also, the supposition that it was somehow better to still be in the process of discovering what the mark should be was proposed only after much bullying over it, and they backed down when Twilight suggested it.
Actually, given your chart, Twilight's could have been placed in the middle and fill the same quota. Magic IS her talent, and she learns more magic than like 90 percent of all unicorns (or so it is implied), making her special, and her mark matches the Element of Magic/Friendship... thus fulfilling destiny! I wouldn’t say having a cutie mark makes you special. Every pony has one, yet they’re all different. When Apple Bloom got the cutie pox, she could’ve had a mark that another pony had. We haven’t seen any pony on the show with those talents yet, but this means that the more the population expands, the less cutie marks there will be if every pony is unique. Although in one episode, every pony had an equal sign as their mark, therefore every pony in that town can have the same mark. But as everyone knows, Twilights new student was once the leader, and people are thinking her power could rival Twilights. Maybe a really powerful pony could make every pony the same? But we all know this was because of an ancient magical item, so maybe a pony powerful enough to use it could do this.

Diamond Tiara, her cutie mark just shows how spoiled she is, like Silver Spoon. Pinkie Pie, her destiny is to throw great parties, hence the balloons. But some cutie marks just don't make sense. Like Snips and Snails. What do their cutie marks mean? Granny Smith, her cutie mark is a Granny Smith apple. But why is it there? My Oc's cutie mark is a Rose and a cherry. Her name is Rose Cherry. Her cutie mark means she is good with flowers and cherries. But, what if a cutie mark means anything? What if it means multiple things, destiny, being special, something your good at, or it's just there because of the name? A cutie mark basically means.....
@The Brony Notion the 3 cutie mark crusaders might have already found their cutie marks...they are just invisible. think about it, they have been trying and trying and almost every single pony got their cutie marks when they were their age, and they are actually semi-good at what they try. their talent could be trying random things that nobody else tries, having so good a determination to find their cutie mark that it drives them to keep trying, or finding cutie marks in others (they might inspire other people to try the things they tried and ultimately, well...find their cutie mark)
Actually, I think Twilights Cutie Mark would fall under all three categories. What you said about it linking to her Destiny is true, but it's more than that. The huge purple/pink on white star surrounded by other smaller stars can also be referencing her extremely powerful magic, which is so much greater than any other unicorn. This is both her Special Talent and "what makes her special". Therefore, her Cutie Mark fits the space where they all overlap.
I believe that twillight's cutie mark should be placed in the middle bc it is not only her destiny. Her magic (also the magic of friendship) is what makes her special. It defines her as an individual, is of big importance to her, but magic is also her talent. so there is the overall magic and then there is the magic of friendship.

I define a cutie mark as a symbolic representation of the pony. One is able to get a decent idea of the pony themselves through their cutie mark, like a daemon from The Golden Compass. Twilights cutie mark symbolizes her surrounded by her five friends, personifying the idea of friendship. Purple, being the color associated with enlightenment, represents her thirst for knowledge. And the starburst design represents her talent for magic.
My daughter said her cutie mark would be a magenta heart with a gold crystal star inside. The star: meaning her magic powers light and crystal making( like you know Elsa). Heart: showing her care for others and nature, music, arts in general, dance and a couple others( my daughter has got allot and I mean allot of talent).
Although most people probably know this, but... in "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" we find out that Diamond Tiara's Cutie mark represents the fact that she can get ponies to do what she wants. A tiara normally represents a princess, and, well, let's just say that people (or ponies) normally do what a princess wants.
Interesting. I agree with some of the other comments in that I think Twilight's Cutie Mark belongs in the middle of your chart. It's directly linked with her destiny in that there are five stars surrounding the big one, as you pointed out, and that it could represent the Elements of Harmony, as some commentors pointed out. I think that the destiny part of the cutie mark also involves the timing in which one first gets their cutie marks. Twilight received hers when she performed PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWAAAZZZ when Celestia came into the room. No doubt Celestia had more ideas than just teaching this gifted filly how to control her power; I think that she immediately sensed Twilight's destiny; we've seen Celestia be this knowledgeable before, and she did seem to know that Twilight was going to become an Alicorn in Magical Mystery Cure. Someone else might be able to expand on this, I'm just putting that out for discussion.
While on the subject of Cutie Marks, I'd like to give an explanation of mine. A flame with wings behind it. The flames represent my affinity for fire spells, while the wings represent my fascination with dragons. Unlike most ponies in Equestria, Sunlight Blaze actually wants to one day study dragons. Of course, this has no overlap with my occupation as a blacksmith in Ponyville. I'm sure someone would ask how I got the cutie mark. Erm...a bit embarrassing to admit, but...I kinda went overboard when trying to start up the forge in Canterlot...... I know, the timing doesn't exactly have anything to do with the dragon part, but the way I see it, a cutie mark doesn't have to fit in all three categories (talent, makes you special, and destiny). So, in my case, it falls under Talent and what makes me special.

Diamond Tiara’s special talent is being able to influence others and get what she wants usually just by asking or demanding it. It’s part of her being spoiled but it’s something she does to her peers to, which they comment on in the episode where she is reformed.
Twilight Sparkle wasn't to become an alicorn at first. Although I think the small stars do represent her friends, stars also seem to resemble magic, which is her special talent. She could have become a star among her friends however without becoming an alicorn.

Her father Money Bags is a business pony and one of the best, more skilled at the art of the silver tongue than Flim and Flam and he's an honest business pony, so she has her family fortune to rely on. Who here wants to see Money Bags stop spoiling his daughter and have her find her true cutie mark? Same with Silver Spoon, maybe before DT cause SS is more of a sheep following a bully to be protected by her.

While i did agree a while ago, i disagree now that the episode "Crusaders Of The Lost Mark" has come out. Let's think about it:
Diamond Tiara first appeared in the episode to seem like the normal bully she looked like in the past episodes and seasons. But when we go a little bit farther into the episode, you can see she's not exactly what you think. She's pressured into doing things she may not like by her mother.
She had persuaded her father into helping the school near the end of the episode, by getting Filthy Rich to by the correct playground equipement. She also stood up for the Cutie Mark Crusaders by back-talking to her mom.
This shows that she had used her cutie mark in the wrong way all up until that 1 episode. She realized this and fixed this.
I think Diamond Tiara's cutie mark means her love/need for power. Silver Spoon's means that she's a spoiled brat and will always expect others to do stuff for her (Born with a silver spoon in her mouth). Twist's means that she has a future in making sweet treats. I think the mane 6's are pretty obvious.
I wonder... What if, before her Alicorn Princess upgrade, Twilight Sparkle was always an actual princess from birth and was descended from pre-Alicorn royalty though it slipped her mind to tell her friend this (perhaps she really just didn't want her friends to find out) or she herself simply didn't know but everyone now assumes she became a princess when she became an Alicorn..?

As for Twilight she goes in what makes her special, because she can perform powerful magic others can't and also she fits on the " destiny " one as well. because it was her destiny to become what she is today.

I think you have magical mystery cure wrong. When the spell did... THAT... It switched more than their cutie marks. It also made them THINK they were each other, and so, they went to do what "their" memories said they did. Problem is, their bodies aren't used to doing those other things. So they were suddenly terrible at what they did. And THIS is what messed up ponyville so bad
And if the Total DramaRama characters had cutie marks, a skull would be what makes Duncan special, being evil and bad. Throwing stars would be what makes Harold special, and his special talent if you think about it. A bat would be what makes Gwen special, she's goth, not many others are. Gems in the shape of apples (3) can be what makes Lushawna special, and her special talent. A paper with a check on it, THAT, is Courtney's destiny.

A cutie mark is your personal symbol. It symbolizes who you are, not necessary your talents. Sometimes, one's talents is a huge part of who they are but it isn't necessary about talents in the first place. Think about, each of the main 6 has gotten their cutie mark when they discovered who they are... You know, their actual personality, life, etc.
I often though that Diamond Tiara was, either a jewelry maker, though show wise it might be more sense to think of her as a fashion pony. Like beauty pageants or something. Silver Spoon is harder to figure out, but I felt she and her family might actually be more along the line of smiths, silver smiths specifically. But that's just my head canon on them.

I can't really say that they really were FRIENDS before Twilight came around. It was more like they all knew each other. Ponyville is a small town so all the ponies are most likely to be friendly to each other but not friends, unless you are Pinky Pie. Just as a reminder, your so very beloved RD didn't really like : Fluttershy, because she was a scaredy cat and crybaby Pinky Pie, because she thought she was annoying Also AJ and Rarity were getting along as well as cats and dogs for their contrast in personality. But, those fights happen less and less as the series progress because they were becoming BETTER FRIENDS TOGETHER. Twilight Sparkle united them and the rest of the work was done together.
I think a cutie mark is when a pony/colt finds his/her destiny, special talent, specialty, ect. The pigment levels on the flank making different colors and resembling a picture.
So, in pony world, finding their special talent is earning their cutie marks. In real life you find what your really good at. I'm good at drawing, so if I were a pony in mlp, my cutie mark would be a sketch book and a pencil.

If you look on the last episode of season three, her speech, she said that she is special, and she wouldn't have made it without them. Also, earlier in the episode, when Princess Celestia turns Twilight into a princess, and she is singing that song or whatever, she said something about Twilight's destiny. So, was making friends and finding the sixth element her destiny? I mean, she got her cutie mark after a test to get into magic school, so, there is a connection here. Rarity's special talent is jewels, which is Jewel Sewing, she puts on a concert with three different treat costumes, then her teacher says " Your Costumes are Nice! " and Rarity says " Nice?!? They need to be Spectacular! Then when Rarity's horn controlled her and stopped at a huge boulder, then the Rainboom happened, it cracked open, she saw a millions of jewels she used them for the costumes, and the teacher said Spectacular.
I think that all cutie marks are destiny at least a little bit because their names are usually related to their cutie marks, like rainbow dash with a rainbow cutie mark or diamond tiara with a cutie mark of a diamond tiara.
Um ok this doesn't really have much to do with cutie marks... I just wanted to say doesn't Photo Finishes tail look a lot like Twilights? I am starting to wonder if they are related, because sometimes Twilights moms tail looks like Twilights but shorter. What if photo finish was her aunt or something, but Twilights mom thought she was too much of a fashionista or something and didn't tell anyone. So, my own cutie mark is the Apple logo with a heart and lightning bolt. So, my cutie mark falls under the category that Rainbow Dash is in too. my special talent is i am good with technology, and what makes me special is i have a Kindle Fire, no Apple products though, and I am probably the only pony that has a tablet myself.

You said that Diamond Tiara's cutie mark didn't really define who she was, besides a spoiled brat, but I'd like to think otherwise. A tiara, or crown, represents monarchy, so it could mean that she was born with her power, money, influence, etc. But it could mean otherwise. What if her crown represented her right to lead and rule and lead other fillies, or ponies, or whatever. Also, the diamond part could mean that she could be a strong leader, since diamonds can only be scratched by other diamonds, therefore being an extremely strong and firm substance. I know, you're probably thinking that Diamond Tiara would be the worst ruler ever, because she's so stuck-up, but her true colors are shown in mlp:fim season 5 episode 18, when (spoiler alert!) she uses her wealth and leadership to help the school and be kind to her classmates. I also can move between a lot of people, I can run and jump/dash left/right some meters, like I teleport some meters while running. But my stamina isn't my special talent. I can stand somewhere and no friend will recognize me: For example, I was in a bus with my mother and she was sitting next to me, and I was sitting next to the window. Some friends entered the bus and they said "Good morning" to my mother, but they didn't see me. I was fully in shadow. It is good, because I bet I can fire a gun inside a huge crowd of people, and no one will ever find out who shot.

Interestingly enough, there are two ponies with the same cutie mark: The one we call Doctor Whooves (chestnut pony with brown mane and a red bowtie) and the one we call Timey Wimey (blue pony with yellow mane and [I think] green bowtie). They both have the hourglass cutie mark, arguably because they both are time doctors, just of different numbers (Timey Wimey is 3rd gen, while Whooves is 10th gen).

I would argue that Twilight's mark would actually fall in the center of the chart, because it represents her talent, what makes her special, and her destiny.

Twilight's biggest talent is her affinity for magic (she learns spells quickly, has the power to teleport, and rewrites magic made by another powerful unicorn). Her magic is also one of the things that make her special, but the mark is also a six pointed star with five smaller stars around it, representing herself and her five friends. Her friends also make her special.
Both her affinity for magic and for friendship combine to create her destiny, which was becoming the princess of friendship (and magic, because friendship is magic).
In the same way, Cadance's mark represents her talent for bringing love to people, but also her destiny of becoming the princess of the Crystal Empire (because it's a crystal heart, it represents both). Both of these things also make her special.

I totally agree! I felt that Diamond Tiara's should have been put somewhere else, and as for Rainbow Dash, her destiny is probably to become a Wonderbolt, hence the "fast as lighting" cutie mark. Plus, her talent/destiny is to control weather patterns in Ponyville. Lastly, of course her talent is being super fast, so the lighting fits under that as well. The rainbow is what makes her special, because nopony else can do a Sonic Rainboom, so she fits under all three categories. Just a thought.

1 likeA Cutie Mark, or rather the special talent they represent, is not only what a pony is best at, but also what brings them the most joy. This is as often metaphorical as it is literal, Cheerilee makes this point directly in her class on Cutie Marks. Her Cutie Mark is three smiling flowers, which doesn't have any direct relation to teaching. But it doesn't need to be obvious or literal since a pony only gets their Cutie Mark once they realize their special talent, so they already know what it means. Many ponies can and will interpret their Cutie Marks as their destiny but that's not really true, they still choose the direction their lives go in, though their Cutie Mark will strongly influence this.
2 likesA perfect example is Rarity. Her special talent is bringing out the beauty in things (not finding gems as many people seem to think). This first manifested in her gem finding spell, allowing her to bring out the beauty of gems hidden in plain rocks, but she does this with everything she encounters, from tree branches (Look Before You Sleep) to bird nests (Winter Wrap Up). She chooses to primarily do this through dress making, though she could have just as easily been a painter, or a sculptor, or even an architect. The same can be said for the rest of the Mane Six and every other pony; Their special talents could have been utilized in other ways than the way they chose.
Cutie Marks are as much skill and temperament as they are magic, but they are definitely magical. When a pony is working in harmony with their Cutie Mark the results range from exceptional to literally magic. We see evidence of this throughout the show whenever a pony's Cutie Mark is lost. Starlight Glimmer's cult thing in The Cutie Map shows this very well, as the Mane Six are unable to utilize their special talents with their Cutie Marks removed. Likewise when Tirek drains a pony's magic in Twilight's Kingdom, their Cutie Mark disappears.
The one way that Cutie Marks are destiny is while a pony can choose how they utilize their special talent, they can't choose not to utilize it; What I've seen referred to as 'Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome': when a pony fails at their special talent or is unable to utilize it they suffer severe mental problems. Examples are Twilight Sparkle in Lesson Zero, Pinkie Pie in Party of One, and Fluttershy in The Best Night Ever.

I think a cutie mark is also a reflection of their soul. you can look at a cutie mark, and with some thought, figure out a pony's basic personality. For example: Fluttershy is similar to her three pinkish butterflies, pink is often a color of positive emotions, while butterflies are often a symbol of gentleness, though they have that 'hidden' power of causing hurricanes with a wing flap, but butterflies are also extremely fragile, and flee from the presence of most people.

You have to take into account the metaphorical/symbolic nature of the cutie mark. In Diamond Tiara's case, the mark represents destiny, special something and talent combined. Her destiny is probably to inherit her dad's fortune (she's the heir to his throne), her special something is being rich/spoiled and her talent (I would argue) is bossing other ponies around. Silver Spoon's a bit trickier. I think, again, her special something and destiny is that she's born wealthy. Whether there's some kind of talent involved, I don't know. Perhaps we'll find out!

When explaining the concept to non-brony friends I say that it tends to depict a talent, skill, hobby, passion, obsession, personality trait, physical trait, career, family theme, or sometimes just their name. Twist does kinda sum it up well enough, but it's a little vague especially when you're trying to design one. Mine is a cloud in the form of a thought bubble, intended to depict my habit of constant daydreaming and somewhat short attention span. (head in the clouds) I have a bit of trouble depicting it effectively, both in that thought bubbles generally look like clouds anyway so it's hard to distinguish it as being both and also... the orientation of the small puffs. You know, the ones that link the bubble to the head in a comic. If I angle them forward it looks like I'm thinking with my genitals, and if I angle them back it looks like a fart. I might be over thinking that though, I don't know if anypony else would see it that way. Anyway, for Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon I have always seen them as spoiled rich kids, which was kind of confirmed by DT's father being Filthy Rich. Their cutiemarks may be their names, but they are also a depiction of their social status.

Thinking about the last thing I said, remembering something I forgot to say and realising something about them. The accidental omission: Cheese Sandwich. A guy with an absurd name even by Pony standards, and his cutie mark is... his name. But why is it his name? He said nopony knew who he was as a child, I would suppose this to mean he had no friends but it's more than that if they didn't even know what his name was. He later said he was determined to make sure everypony in Equestria would know his name through his party planning efforts. I believe in this way, his mark isn't just a bland depiction of his name, which I previously saw on one-time characters as a bland cop-out to just give them whatever, but rather it's a symbol of his obsession with fame. It is his name because he wants everypony to know his name. This is similar to SilverSpoon and DiamondTiara having their marks just being their names, but their marks really represent their wealth and social status and only look like their names because those were given based on the same thing. So if the Pony's cutie mark looks like just a bland depiction of their name, it may be that for whatever reason their name became a good symbol for their 'special something' and the two merely converged. I guess this becomes a sort of 'don't judge a book by it's cover' lesson, you might meet somepony who's cutiemark is their name and think, 'What a boring person, the most special thing about them is just their name and nothing else.' but really there is a meaningful and personal reason for their name to be on their flank, if one cares to find out.

@The Brony Notion I don't think DT & SS are jealous of the CMCs at all, they love to flaunt their social status and having it on their cutiemarks just makes it easier to rub it in everypony's faces. Also, the supposition that it was somehow better to still be in the process of discovering what the mark should be was proposed only after much bullying over it, and they backed down when Twilight suggested it.

Although in one episode, every pony had an equal sign as their mark, therefore every pony in that town can have the same mark. But as everyone knows, Twilights new student was once the leader, and people are thinking her power could rival Twilights. Maybe a really powerful pony could make every pony the same? But we all know this was because of an ancient magical item, so maybe a pony powerful enough to use it could do this.

@The Brony Notion the 3 cutie mark crusaders might have already found their cutie marks...they are just invisible. think about it, they have been trying and trying and almost every single pony got their cutie marks when they were their age, and they are actually semi-good at what they try. their talent could be trying random things that nobody else tries, having so good a determination to find their cutie mark that it drives them to keep trying, or finding cutie marks in others (they might inspire other people to try the things they tried and ultimately, well...find their cutie mark)
1 likeActually, I think Twilights Cutie Mark would fall under all three categories. What you said about it linking to her Destiny is true, but it's more than that. The huge purple/pink on white star surrounded by other smaller stars can also be referencing her extremely powerful magic, which is so much greater than any other unicorn. This is both her Special Talent and "what makes her special". Therefore, her Cutie Mark fits the space where they all overlap.

And the starburst design represents her talent for magic.

It's directly linked with her destiny in that there are five stars surrounding the big one, as you pointed out, and that it could represent the Elements of Harmony, as some commentors pointed out. I think that the destiny part of the cutie mark also involves the timing in which one first gets their cutie marks. Twilight received hers when she performed PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWAAAZZZ when Celestia came into the room. No doubt Celestia had more ideas than just teaching this gifted filly how to control her power; I think that she immediately sensed Twilight's destiny; we've seen Celestia be this knowledgeable before, and she did seem to know that Twilight was going to become an Alicorn in Magical Mystery Cure.
Someone else might be able to expand on this, I'm just putting that out for discussion.
While on the subject of Cutie Marks, I'd like to give an explanation of mine. A flame with wings behind it. The flames represent my affinity for fire spells, while the wings represent my fascination with dragons. Unlike most ponies in Equestria, Sunlight Blaze actually wants to one day study dragons. Of course, this has no overlap with my occupation as a blacksmith in Ponyville.
I'm sure someone would ask how I got the cutie mark. Erm...a bit embarrassing to admit, but...I kinda went overboard when trying to start up the forge in Canterlot......
I know, the timing doesn't exactly have anything to do with the dragon part, but the way I see it, a cutie mark doesn't have to fit in all three categories (talent, makes you special, and destiny). So, in my case, it falls under Talent and what makes me special.

this is the story of my OC. (even though i'm with fnaf more) a lightning bolt struck a neon "OPEN" sign and she got powered by the neon glow of the sign. hence the name "Neon Lighting".

5 likesDiamond Tiara first appeared in the episode to seem like the normal bully she looked like in the past episodes and seasons. But when we go a little bit farther into the episode, you can see she's not exactly what you think. She's pressured into doing things she may not like by her mother.
She had persuaded her father into helping the school near the end of the episode, by getting Filthy Rich to by the correct playground equipement. She also stood up for the Cutie Mark Crusaders by back-talking to her mom.
This shows that she had used her cutie mark in the wrong way all up until that 1 episode. She realized this and fixed this.

1 likeI often though that Diamond Tiara was, either a jewelry maker, though show wise it might be more sense to think of her as a fashion pony. Like beauty pageants or something. Silver Spoon is harder to figure out, but I felt she and her family might actually be more along the line of smiths, silver smiths specifically. But that's just my head canon on them.

Okay, so, I was watching Brony Notion, and then I, well, one of his videos was about the whole "cutie mark" thing. And he showed Twilight's cutie mark, and when you look at it, it has one big star, five little ones. Twilight has five friends, and together, all six, form the elements of harmony, and Twilight is the leader, the most recent princess, elemest of magic, most powerful one. So she is obviously the big pink one. So, if a cutie mark represents destiny, and what makes each pony special, then, does that mean that Princess Celestia sending Twilight to ponyville to make friends, was that her destiny, and do her make her special, well, actually, yes they do. If you look on the last episode of season three, her speech, she said that she is special, and she wouldn't have made it without them. Also, earlier in the episode, when Princess Celestia turns Twilight into a princess, and she is singing that song or whatever, she said something about Twilight's destiny. So, was making friends and finding the sixth element her destiny? I mean, she got her cutie mark after a test to get into magic school, so, there is a connection here. Also, just look Twilight's crown and her element of harmony, pink, just like her cutie mark. Man, I need Brony Notion to help me out here. A tiara, or crown, represents monarchy, so it could mean that she was born with her power, money, influence, etc. But it could mean otherwise. What if her crown represented her right to lead and rule and lead other fillies, or ponies, or whatever. Also, the diamond part could mean that she could be a strong leader, since diamonds can only be scratched by other diamonds, therefore being an extremely strong and firm substance. I know, you're probably thinking that Diamond Tiara would be the worst ruler ever, because she's so stuck-up, but her true colors are shown in mlp:fim season 5 episode 18, when (spoiler alert!) she uses her wealth and leadership to help the school and be kind to her classmates. That's true leadership, so if this crazy theory is correct, maybe that's her special talent and destiny, too. Just a thought. Comment on this comment if you think this might possibly be true.

1 likeMine is a small flame coming from a small circle. The flame has the same shape as my OC's hair (not the OC in my picture, but the REAL one): Curly.What does it means? It is a fire that burns forever on that blue circle and his special talent is to control and put out the fire. But he can also make fire or ignite something using his dark magic. He can also teleport and he can turn in a shadow and no one will find him. :)

I also can move between a lot of people, I can run and jump/dash left/right some meters, like I teleport some meters while running. But my stamina isn't my special talent. I can stand somewhere and no friend will recognize me: For example, I was in a bus with my mother and she was sitting next to me, and I was sitting next to the window. Some friends entered the bus and they said "Good morning" to my mother, but they didn't see me. I was fully in shadow. It is good, because I bet I can fire a gun inside a huge crowd of people, and no one will ever find out who shot.

Interestingly enough, there are two ponies with the same cutie mark: The one we call Doctor Whooves (chestnut pony with brown mane and a red bowtie) and the one we call Timey Wimey (blue pony with yellow mane and [I think] green bowtie). They both have the hourglass cutie mark, arguably because they both are time doctors, just of different numbers (Timey Wimey is 3rd gen, while Whooves is 10th gen).
