Right! I felt for Moondancer so much. It hits me hard because I basically twilighted a friend of mine. Not in the same way. But I did leave them and stop talking to them and hanging out with them. So I feel as bad if not worse than Twilight for causing that pain for my friend.
This episode hits me on personal level. I had a friend like Twilight, and you can say I was like Moondancer. But when he left...and stoped being friends with me...for no reason...at least I don't know it....it hurt so bad. It still hurts. He was really my best friend when we were kids. I still miss him...
A very interesting detail when you look at twilights old friends you notice that just like The rest of the mane six there in pairs, minuet has the same hairstyle as Lyra. Twinkle shine and lemon heart have the same hairstyle and finally moon dancer has the same style as twilight.
Not to mention Daring Do has the same exact style ad Rainbow dash. Only in black and white, but her eye color and brave, strong personality makes her seem like she could be Rainbow dashes long lost cousin/relative or something
If you like Minuette, I encourage you to find the Flash game called "Minty Fresh Adventure" and play it, because this entire game is dedicated to her ;) And it's really well done (the graphics, the music, the story, the humour, the secret levels and achievements... ;) )
This episode following up on something unaddressed since episode 1 took me by surprise. I see that you picked up on the same idea I did, that Moondancer is a representation of what Twilight could have become. This episode has a much deeper meaning when you think about it that way.
I love this episode, it is by far one of the best of S5 in my opinion! This story is nostalgia central with all the references from the first episode and I thought that was really cool. It was so great to get to know Twilight’s Canterlot friends after all this time. My favorites of the bunch are Moondancer and Minuette. Minuette is like Pinkie, just slightly less over the top and I like her bubbly personality, she’s a cute character. Moondancer is one of my most favorite characters of the season and I like the fact that Kazumi Evans (the VA for Adagio and Octavia) had voiced her too. I like the ending of this episode, how Twilight and Moondancer were able to mend their friendship and become good friends again, that was one of the sweetest moments of the show for me, another feels trip of the season.
When I first saw this episode, I thought that in spite of the 100+ episodes that came before it, this had to be my favourite in the entire series up to that point.
5 years later, and with another 100+ episodes since then, I still feel the same way.
The G1 pony was just Twilight. "Twilight Twinkle" was the original name Lauren Faust intended for G4 Twilight, a joke on the novel series (where vampires twinkle constantly, a badly overused word). Legal made her change it to Sparkle.
Good on you that you noticed starlight, she have cameos during the season, and that puts her as the creepiest villain in the show, that and many other things. This episode is one of my favorite episodes in the show, its relatable, heartwarming and explores more characters. I mean in the first episode, did anyone think that there will be an episode about twilight meeting those "friends" she dismissed in that scene? This is one of the more feelsy episodes, but there are many to come, stay strong!

I'm pretty sure no one did, including the writers ;) That's why I say that this is the greatest piece of retconning (retroactive continuity) in the history of this show ;> (that is, using the originally unimportant pieces of information in a creative way to reframe them as something important that the plot depends on). I love this technique being used in story telling :> Another great place I've seen this trick utilized is the fantastic web comic "Gunnerkrigg Court" by Tom Sidell :>
Incredible how the writers took a small, seemingly insignificant scene from the very beginning of the show and turned it into an entire episode 5 seasons later. Kinda reminds me of Rogue One (the Star Wars movie).
01:10 Hahah Spike – the master of putting a stick into an anthill :D Always ready to topple the status quo and undermine your sense of safety and self-esteem :) Discord would be proud ;> 01:20 Good, good :> 02:52 Yup :> And the door that he slammed Spike with ;) And I love everything about this scene: the setting, the music, the lighting, the mood, the sound filtering of their voice when they're being filmed from behind the glass window, Twilight's reflection in the glass... Great attention to the details :> 03:53 Yeah, and the Princess of Friendship didn't notice that for, like, FOUR SEASONS :D That's kinda telling ;J 04:41 Yeah, the fans were calling her Colgate, due to her mane resembling toothpaste ;) There's even a Flash platformer game about her wanting to be a dentist and trying to change her cutie mark ("Minty Fresh Adventure"). But her official name in the show is Minuette, because copyrights :q Anyway, I love her optimistic and energetic personality ever since Lyra introduced me to her :) 05:32 You can always count on Spike's sarcasm ;> 06:06 I don't know if that was intentional, but the way she breaks that doughnut into halves precisely at the moment she says about Twilight's "moving on" – I find it very symbolic. Like if the doughnut were a metaphor for their little circle of friends breaking apart when Twilight moved to Ponyville. 06:54 Yeah, she came a long way. And that's why this episode is my favourite from season 5: because it really shows how Twilight has changed, by contrasting her with her past self. And by giving us a hint – in the form of Moondancer – of how Twilight might have ended up if she didn't meet her Ponyville friends. 08:10 Because she looked up to Twilight so much, and she wanted to be like her. 08:18 "Oh, right, Moondancer... well... she's kinda dead" :q ← That's what went through my head when I first saw this scene ;q 09:48 Celestia's butt mark on Twilight's shades ;) 10:00 This is the best piece of retconning I've seen in the history of this show :> Who would've though that this seemingly unimportant event will have such disastrous implications on some pony's life? :q That's a great message, because it shows that nothing that you do is unimportant; what seems unimportant to you, might be really important to someone else, to the point it might even be a life changer. 11:25 I hope it doesn't work the way the Cone of Silence from "Get Smart" works, that is, that ponies outside of it hear everything you say right now :D 11:35 Bursting her bubble much? :D 12:15 Fun fact: Twilight Twinkle was the original proposal for Twilight's name in the original Show Bible :) 12:22 Yup :> 12:42 "Haycart" they're talking about, is a reference to René Descartes, a famous philosopher, and "Treatise on Ponies" is a reference to Descartes's "Treatise of Man" :J 13:45 Have you ever tried? ;> There's so many wonderful mythical creatures in Equestria, with all sorts of mysterious traits; their biology is really interesting ;) And organizing those scrolls helps ponies find them and see the connections between them. Organizing and simplifying knowledge for future generations is a very important part of science – something you Humans stopped doing long time ago, and that's why you now struggle with wrapping your heads around all those things that your ancestors discovered. But keep looking ;) She may appear again...
17:56 Moondancer: "Ooh, A Brief History of the Wagon Harness!" PonyBro: "That sounds so f@$%ing boring!" It is, until you get to the chapter on bedroom applications. ;)
headcanon: Moondancer had a crush on Twilight after a classmate rivalry, the party was her big "notice me, senpai!" effort, and she was crushed when Twi not only didn't bother but left town and became better friends with other ponies!
This is considered to be one of the most emotional episodes in the show, along with, well, you'll see, in another couple seasons. ;) And, also, I know, I know, I'm late but . . . BOOYAH, BABY! You spotted the Starlight! Now, time to see if you kept your eyes open for the rest of the season! >:)
I'm genuinely surprised you were able to avoid the spoilers about Starlight being here, but got just enough info to know to look out for the background haha
Minuette's fan persona was a dentist so that's why we called her Colgate for a long time. However, the show couldn't use that name likely because of the copyright on the Toothpaste with the same name.
10:00 Flashback to that first scene from Episode 1, making it important for this episode? That's incredible writing. And 15:50 expands on that same day.
14:20 yes. That is also an incredibly cool and creative part of the season.
Have you noticed that the group of them 6 is divided into 3 pairs where 2 of them have the same mane? Twilight and Moondancer the same, Lyra and Minuette the same and Lemon hearts and Twinkle Shine the same!
If Twilihmght had taken with her to Ponyville, that first edition copy of Principles of Magic it would've been destroyed when the Golden Oak Library was exploded.
There’s a theory that in bloom and gloom the first two times the figure was starlight because at first the figure was moving and not staying in one place but then it all of a sudden stop in one spot like a normal shadow
Actually the events of nightmare moon returning, twilight using the elements to purify her, discord escape, Canterlot wedding disaster and Crystal empire battle and twilight becoming an Alicorn and Equestria girls 1 all took place in 1 year. Crazy right?
Twilight having to apologize for missing Moondancers party is why to resopnd to what Pinkie says in to where and back again to miss a party your invited to is rude.
@@Scribbling_ScribblesI was just pointing out to somewhat complete what Pinkie was saying to Starlight about being invited to a party and not going in to where and back again; that being invited to a party and not going is rude because it's like giving the organizer a big middle finger saying they might like you but you don't care enough about them to attend.
I really like all of your reactions to this show and equestria girls but you should try reacting to the owl house. They already finished season 1 and right now we're all waiting for season 2
just for the fun.. You should react to the MLP meets videos by ToucanLDM and mlp anthology 3, 4 and 5... and so many more. or some fanfictions like Bride of DIscord or Daughter of Discord.( Fluttercord romance). at the point you are, these videos have no spoiling..
You noticed Starlight!!!! And that's actually the first time she appeared in the background this season so you didn't miss anything!

26 likesAnd if I'm being honest, the level of quality this episode brings easily puts in into the top 10 episodes of the entire series!

Ah.
0 likesSomeone else who doesn't go "omg Episode 100 the fanservice characters omg" because that one really wasn't too good.
Both of these however, a truly deserving 5 year celebration. Loved how this one made a minor scene in Episode 1 important.
Incredible how the writers took a small, seemingly insignificant scene from the very beginning of the show and turned it into an entire episode 5 seasons later. Kinda reminds me of Rogue One (the Star Wars movie).
3 likes01:10 Hahah Spike – the master of putting a stick into an anthill :D Always ready to topple the status quo and undermine your sense of safety and self-esteem :) Discord would be proud ;>
12 likes01:20 Good, good :>
02:52 Yup :> And the door that he slammed Spike with ;) And I love everything about this scene: the setting, the music, the lighting, the mood, the sound filtering of their voice when they're being filmed from behind the glass window, Twilight's reflection in the glass... Great attention to the details :>
03:53 Yeah, and the Princess of Friendship didn't notice that for, like, FOUR SEASONS :D That's kinda telling ;J
04:41 Yeah, the fans were calling her Colgate, due to her mane resembling toothpaste ;) There's even a Flash platformer game about her wanting to be a dentist and trying to change her cutie mark ("Minty Fresh Adventure"). But her official name in the show is Minuette, because copyrights :q Anyway, I love her optimistic and energetic personality ever since Lyra introduced me to her :)
05:32 You can always count on Spike's sarcasm ;>
06:06 I don't know if that was intentional, but the way she breaks that doughnut into halves precisely at the moment she says about Twilight's "moving on" – I find it very symbolic.
08:18 "Oh, right, Moondancer... well... she's kinda dead" :q ← That's what went through my head when I first saw this scene ;q
09:48 Celestia's butt mark on Twilight's shades ;)
10:00 This is the best piece of retconning I've seen in the history of this show :> Who would've though that this seemingly unimportant event will have such disastrous implications on some pony's life? :q That's a great message, because it shows that nothing that you do is unimportant; what seems unimportant to you, might be really important to someone else, to the point it might even be a life changer.
11:25 I hope it doesn't work the way the Cone of Silence from "Get Smart" works, that is, that ponies outside of it hear everything you say right now :D
11:35 Bursting her bubble much? :D
12:15 Fun fact: Twilight Twinkle was the original proposal for Twilight's name in the original Show Bible :)
12:22 Yup :>
12:42 "Haycart" they're talking about, is a reference to René Descartes, a famous philosopher, and "Treatise on Ponies" is a reference to Descartes's "Treatise of Man" :J
13:45 Have you ever tried? ;> There's so many wonderful mythical creatures in Equestria, with all sorts of mysterious traits; their biology is really interesting ;) And organizing those scrolls helps ponies find them and see the connections between them. Organizing and simplifying knowledge for future generations is a very important part of science – something you Humans stopped doing long time ago, and that's why you now struggle with wrapping your heads around all those things that your ancestors discovered. If you're looking for some actually boring sentences, try reading some law books or bureaucratic documents ;)
14:00 And that pony was Princess Celestia herself :>
14:24 Bingo! ;J
17:08 Yeah, pretty much :D
17:30 Oof ;>
17:57 "Ooh, a piece of candy! Ooh, a piece of candy! Ooh, a piece of candy!..." :D
18:01 This makes me wonder what books you read and consider not boring :J Maybe you can recommend us something? :>
19:15 I don't think that giving her that bat was a good idea :q Now she can find a real piñata – the purple one behind her :q
22:55 Yup, there's only one pony with neon-fish colour scheme :)
23:08 Definitely gathering some intel ;>
23:40 If you did, then everyone else did. But keep looking ;) She may appear again...

1 likeheadcanon: Moondancer had a crush on Twilight after a classmate rivalry, the party was her big "notice me, senpai!" effort, and she was crushed when Twi not only didn't bother but left town and became better friends with other ponies!

I do like the ship with moondancer and twilight, so now thats my headcanon aswell, even though im a multishipper but whatever.
0 likesWow I like that idea and it makes sense since she was really disappointed that twilight didn’t come
6 likesThis is considered to be one of the most emotional episodes in the show, along with, well, you'll see, in another couple seasons. ;) And, also, I know, I know, I'm late but . . . BOOYAH, BABY! You spotted the Starlight! Now, time to see if you kept your eyes open for the rest of the season! >:)
7 likesI'm genuinely surprised you were able to avoid the spoilers about Starlight being here, but got just enough info to know to look out for the background haha
3 likesIs no one gonna talk how adorable Twinkleshine is?
2 likesDang, would’ve liked to see Lyra in the episode.
6 likesMinuette's fan persona was a dentist so that's why we called her Colgate for a long time. However, the show couldn't use that name likely because of the copyright on the Toothpaste with the same name.

Also, Minuette was dressed up as what looked like a dental hygienist in Luna Eclipsed. That may have been an early nod to her fandom name.
0 likes12:04 "That's a good hiding-- Twilight could win hide 'n seek easily."

1:19 then you're gonna love this episode
1 like10:00 Flashback to that first scene from Episode 1, making it important for this episode? That's incredible writing. And 15:50 expands on that same day.
14:20 yes. That is also an incredibly cool and creative part of the season.
20:34 man this episode hits hard.
21:56 what a way to end it. My goodness.
(really, this and Crusaders of the Lost Mark are the perfect 5 year celebration. Episode 100 was a nice nod and all but wasn't that good)
Have you noticed that the group of them 6 is divided into 3 pairs where 2 of them have the same mane? Twilight and Moondancer the same, Lyra and Minuette the same and Lemon hearts and Twinkle Shine the same!

If Twilihmght had taken with her to Ponyville, that first edition copy of Principles of Magic it would've been destroyed when the Golden Oak Library was exploded.

Didn’t CobaltSky make that joke in his reaction?
0 likesThis is a great episode. The main premise is a little flawed. Minuet is a great character. Appearing in a book is really cool.
1 likeThere’s a theory that in bloom and gloom the first two times the figure was starlight because at first the figure was moving and not staying in one place but then it all of a sudden stop in one spot like a normal shadow
0 likesSeeing old friends can be really awkward.
3 likesMy favorite ponies are Twinkleshine and Minuette, those adorable ponies
0 likes14:19 - OH GOOSH! IT REALLY IS STARLIGHT! :O
2 likesActually the events of nightmare moon returning, twilight using the elements to purify her, discord escape, Canterlot wedding disaster and Crystal empire battle and twilight becoming an Alicorn and Equestria girls 1 all took place in 1 year. Crazy right?

Is the time duration mentioned somewhere in the show?
2 likesTwilight having to apologize for missing Moondancers party is why to resopnd to what Pinkie says in to where and back again to miss a party your invited to is rude.

0 likes@@Scribbling_ScribblesI was just pointing out to somewhat complete what Pinkie was saying to Starlight about being invited to a party and not going in to where and back again; that being invited to a party and not going is rude because it's like giving the organizer a big middle finger saying they might like you but you don't care enough about them to attend.
1 likeI had a stroke reading this 💀

3 likesat this rate, you could finish the season 5 in two days.

1 like"Hey, I was trying to stop that evil monster thing you heard about in Ponyville. I'm sorry for missing your party."
That would have solved it - case in point, she was a bad friend to them even after getting her new friends.
That is very true, she had way bigger priorities, like defeating nightmare moon. But I still understand moondancer.
2 likesThere are suppose to be three times where starlight shows up but only two have been found. However there is one that yet to be found in.
