I definitely do agree that MLP FiM had a seasonal rot. It really depends on who you ask where it began, but I don’t think the beginning of the seasonal rot started in Season 2. To many people in the early fandom, they thought that Seasons 1-3 were amazing until after Twilight became an alicorn. Many people saw seasons 3-5 the beginning of the drop in quality, as there was the introduction of Starlight Glimmer in Season 5 who became part of the main cast. For the people who still watched from season 5-7, there was nothing significant or really drastic that caused a drop in quality. For me personally however, Season 7 was the last time the show that had amazing quality. The seasonal rot began in Season 8, whereby the School of Friendship was introduced which I didn’t have big of an issue with but it was a rather strange concept to me. But Season 9 is when it hit rockbottom, with Twilight ruling Equestria among many other things that occurred then as well. The show was definitely in its prime when Lauren Faust and Meghan McCarthy were working on it, but after Josh Haber worked on it it began to drop downhill. There’s even a chart that I found on Twitter which came from Reddit which shows the percentage of canon that each season of the show is to the person who created it.
I mean the show had a 9 season run to completion. It's more than we can say for a lot of kids media. 9 years is a very long time and I think overall it's enough story and content to enjoy and rewatch for years to come, some of the people who watched it as a kid are even having kids of their own and sharing the show with them. I'm sure at least the fandom won't die for a long long time.
On another note HOW DARE YOU DISS STARLIGHT GLIMMER LIKE THAT! TO THE GULAG WITH YOU! I'll have you know adorable purple ponies are adorable. Glimglam is a certified cutie and I will not take this nonsense! She gets special privileges for also improving Trixie's character depth and partaking in 6 extra bonus episodes with spike pre-finale.
