Hi RRN, it is true that Mojang could attempt to 'ban' users on the Java edition, though their only power would be denying you access to authentication servers. Basically, everyone would be forced to play cracked minecraft servers. Note: Mojang can't monitor the events occurring on a given server, so I don't know how they could moderate them.
This entire mix up was a mis-communication regarding the “Featured servers” statement in mojangs official post, where people speculated beyond the featured servers on bedrock edition. (cube craft, the hive, lifeboat, etc)
