I've been looking for a debut from this band for some time after hearing what a classic it was, but their music didn't seem to be in print until this double live album was recently reissued. Of course it's a good way to check out the sound and style of the band, but I was surprised at how straightforward the music was. Straight-up Rock if you ask me even though they have two songs here where they play for more than 17 minutes.

Gentle guitar and vocals that take more than 1 1/2 minutes in turn quickly fill up. "Song For Thesy" features a flute and stocky bass with drums to begin with. Vocals after a minute along with the guitar. The organ joins later. "Maree" is instrumental and one of my favorites. Drums, guitar and organ lead as we get energy. Wires two minutes ago, then organ solo before 3 minutes. Proggy instrumental. "Desert Places" opens with flute and drums as organ and bass join in. The guitar comes and eventually leads. Vocals 3 1/2 minutes calming down. This doesn't take long.
"Reveree" is a short piece with strings and a classic vibe. "Holidays (By The Seaside)" opens with cheers and applause from the audience. They like this one. Vocals 1 1/2 minutes ago then we got an instrumental break 3 minutes in, but it's short. "A Bit Foolish-A Bit Wise" has a great sound introduction with a prominent guitar. Vocals in two minutes. Flute 3 1/2 minutes ago and wire too. Nice guitar solo a minute later. "Crossing The Line" ends dics one with organ to begin with as guitar and drums join in. Vocals after 2 minutes.
The second disc begins with "Reminiscent River" where the piano and vocals contrast with the heavier sections. This really sounds like a Neo-Prog tune. "Back to Cologne" also reminds me of Neo, but only of synthesizer work. "Hava Nagila" is one of two straight epic songs. This one takes 2 minutes with drums, guitar and organ that stand out. Tearing the guitar after 3 1/2 minutes. Frampton guitar in five minutes. He calms down with piano and drums seven minutes ago. Then we get extended drums solo from 8 1/2 minutes to 14 minutes ago. I actually liked him, he was impressive. "Perception" is another rainbow approaching 19 minutes. What I like about this is the way they just play jam and you can tell they're having fun.
