Pretty sure spike looking at himself in a mirror is a callback to the episode Party of One where spike says he sometimes looks in the mirror and says "Looking good spike, looking real good!"
@Jordan Jaramillo To be fair, most of those butt jokes were handed to him on a silver platter. The show got away with a lot of adult humor, now that I think about it.
@@pemanilnoob587 my theory is that they are just too old to remember when they were young fillies, and because all the other alicorns they knew had to become one, they could've just assumed that was just what happened to themselves, and then went along with the assumption that a alicorn whom was born that way was unnatural.
I heard a theory that regular alicorns earn their wings and horns like how usual ponies earn their cutie marks, except sometimes a little later, like in teen-adulthood
Even before this premiere, I honestly never thought they were born as alicorns. I figured they had to earn their wings (or horn in Cadance’s case) just like Twilight did.

@timemonkey As someone who records well in advance, we don't necessarily know how quickly these go up. He might binge the entire season before putting up a single episode, or he might upload them as he does them
Fun fact: this season was my first real exposure to MLP:FiM. I didn't go back to see the previous seasons until the hiatus. People may say that it's the worst season all they want, but it still made me keep coming back for more, my excitement growing with each episode. It will always have a very special place in my heart.
CinCoutMagus Season 5 is what got me hooked and binge watched the prior seasons afterwards. As a skilled piano player, that season is what reignited my skills after a long period of being away from it due to studies.
This was a good season on my memory, mainly because of Starlight. Also, this is where DWK's recap series starts, no need to explain how great this stuff is. So yeah, I hope you enjoy it :)
Actually, people struggling with their emotions tend to have a LOT of putting off smiles to show. This way it's easier to hide that they are panicking literally every time something unexpected happens
"He's got built-in socks" Funnily enough, that white pattern is actually called a sock or stocking. The white stripe on the top of the nose is called a blaze. Neither feature is unique to equines.
Its somewhere in the middle regarding the ranking of the seasons compared to others, but its really enjoyable(but I love all the seasons, even my least favorite), there are some great episodes. Also, this episode explains why king sombra never destroyed the crystal heart, he needed it to protect the empire from the weather, regarding the love and unity part, I guess it means that they powered up the heart by the crystal ponies(like in the end of the season 3 premier when they obliterated sombra) but the fact that the heart is still there is enough to protect it from the weather. This episode explores more lore and we get to know starlight more and introduce us to her former friend sunburst, more starlight the better. And yeah, starburst is a famous ship, a lot of fans ship them. although... The main complaint this episode received is that the baby is an alicorn, it got a mixed reaction, many hated it.
The first step for Starlight began with reformation in the Season 5 finale, so this Season 6 premiere is the next step for overcoming her past misdeeds. Not easy, I know.
I think flurry heart could have been a good charcter if they aged her up a bit and not keep her a baby. Yeah they showed her grown up in a stained glass window but that's it
These Premieres were the best from the season 1 episode 1 when Celestia told Twilight to come to Ponyville without that happening then Crysalis Tyreck King Sombra Nightmare Moon and Flim and Flam would have taken over all of Equestria. So technically Celestia saved Equetria and she probably could just vanish everyone to the moon who opposes her for a 1000 years, She represents all the elements of Harmony that's how she used them to defeat Nightmare moon and discord. Love how she represents all the elements if she didn't then they wouldn't work. so Rarity + Apple Jack + Rainbow Dash + Pinkie Pie + Flutter Shy = Celstia + Luna like took 2 eepsidoe for Twilight to tkae King sombra calestia and Luna just like that was easy in 2 seconds
Except that movie is terrible. I don’t particularly like how Sunset treats Flash in it. The only two things I like about that film are the songs and how the girls get their geode powers.
Not much to say on this episode. But it does, to me, start to solidify Spike as his own character: We see his snark and balancing being vainglorious with teaching Starlight, dragons age much slower than ponies, but after a few more years of growth from his move into Ponyville, he's started to gain some sense of Self, some independence. And Glim-Glam is best pony.
I don't really give a crap who wrote what, since I think that turns the focus from the quality of the episodes to the quality of the writers, which is mainly a problem because a good writer can still write a bad episode occasionally. That said, I feel like this season is a bit of a mixed bag, some good episodes and some that are kind of boring/uninteresting. I can understand why some people really do like this season and some really don't.
@H. LTHonestly, it's kind of refreshing to see the show move away from the mane six. They've all grown so much from what they were that it was getting to the point where in order to tell a story about them they had to be regressed to make it work. By shifting the focus to less developed characters they can largely avoid that problem by letting the mane six shift into more mentorly roles when they don't have something specific for them to do.
@H. LT Some other good writers joined the team though, for example Nick Confalone and Josh Haber (he joined with season 4 already), the former being responsible for "Forgotten Friendship", and the latter being responsible for quite a wholesome buildup for two great finales and several other great episodes.
@H. LT Season 1 and 2 are my least favorites, I still like them, but not nearly as much as the latest ones. I recognize how good those 3 writers are, Amy Keating Rogers is actually my favorite.
But overall, the writers who worked on S6 were not even a little bit worse than the ones on S1&2. Josh Harber, Michael Vogel, Joanna Lewis, Kristine Songco and Nick Confalone are freaking amazing.
Yeah, there was more focus on other characters, taking screen time from the mane 6. But the mane 6 are still very well handled. A lot of the so called "uninteresting filler" is neither uninteresting nor filler, it does contribute to their character development and explore them in new ways.
People just don't like it because the writing is different.
It's easy to hate this season at least for some who had their fan stories demolished by introducing a baby that breaks the cannon of the stories they have read or written. I had no problem but it's easy how some has had it.
1st time in Crystal Empire: Spike moved the Crystal Heart about 15 feet and thus saved the Crystal Empire. 2nd time in Crystal Empire: Spike melt an ice spell that could have potentially destroyed Crystal Heart and thus saved the Crystal Empire. 3rd time in Crystal Empire: Spike made sure Starlight did her friendship lesson, meeting Sunburst, who brought his knowledge to help with the Crystal Heart, and thus Spike saved the Crystal Empire. 4th time in Crystal Empire: Spike... ...and thus... ...saved... ...Equestria. [redacted to avoid spoilers] The Crystal ponies are right: he is the Great and Honorable Spike the Brave and Glorious.
Rarity: So, not only can we NOT take part in a fabulous ancient ceremony. But we're also about to be frozen solid! Runo Misaki: Completely solid! Twilight Sparkle: Without the Crystal Heart's magical protection, the entire city's about to become a winter wasteland.
Applejack: But what about when King Sombra ruled the Crystal Empire and the Crystal Heart was missin'? The city wasn't covered in snow then!
Twilight Sparkle: The Heart wasn't missing. It was still in the castle. King Sombra had just hidden it.
Princess Celestia: I'm afraid Twilight is correct, and the storm clouds are already forming.
[lightning cracks]
Rainbow Dash: I can totally fly up there and bust those puppies! No problem! (prepares to fly and bust the clouds, but Princess Celestia stops her by pulling the curtains down)
Princess Celestia: I wouldn't advise it, Rainbow Dash. Those storm clouds are NOT like the ones you know. Dan Kuso: Then Drago and I can melt the snow and ice and prevent the storm clouds from ever even reachin' us! You ready, Drago? Drago: You bet! (Dan and Drago prepare to battle the storm clouds, only to be interrupted by Princess Celestia) Princess Celestia: I wouldn't advise that either, Dan. (brakes screech) Dan Kuso: Huh? [beat] What are you talkin' about? Quit foolin' around, Princess Celestia. Princess Celestia: I'm not fooling around, Dan. If you and Drago go out there, you could end up setting the Empire on fire. These clouds are way too powerful for you two to stop. Princess Luna: This far north, the weather has a will of its own, and now it will only grow stronger, enveloping everything in its path.
Princess Cadance: Including the Crystal Empire!
Twilight Sparkle: And us along with it! (Pinkie Pie holds on to Twilight) Julie Makimoto: This is terrible!
(Back outside, Shining Armor is already trying to calm down, and he breathes heavily. Rarity brushes his hair while Dan comforts him) Dan Kuso: Just relax, buddy. It's gonna be okay. (Door opens, and Celestia, Luna and Cadence come out) Dan Kuso: Ah, there they are.
Shining Armor: Okay. I chose the honor guard, picked the purity crystal, and I know exactly who I want to be our crystaller. So, all we need is...
Princess Cadance: The baby? (Shining Armor is puzzled) Runo Misaki: Yeah, I guess so. (Twilight Sparkle, Leah Rowden, Julie Makimoto and Pinkie Pie arrive)
Twilight Sparkle: We're here!
Flurry Heart: [burbling] Dan Kuso: There you girls are! Pinkie Pie: She's a really strong flyer! Julie Makimoto: She really is!
(Princess Cadence gets the baby to safety, while Twilight lets Pinkie land on the ground safely)
(Flurry Heart is about to cry) Drago: Oh dear. That's not good. (Flurry Heart lets out a loud wail, causing everyone to shield themselves, the Battle Brawlers cover their ears from her wailing) Drago: Wow, she's screaming even louder than ever! (Flurry Heart's wail is so loud that it shatters the Crystal Heart)
(everyone gasping) Dan Kuso: Oh no! The Crystal Heart!
Flurry Heart: [burbling] (Applejack and Shun walk forth to the now destroyed Crystal Heart) Applejack: I'm guessin' that's gonna make it harder to do the Crystalling. Shun Kazami: You could say that again.
Twilight Sparkle: It's worse than that. Without the Heart, the Crystal Empire's about to be buried under a mountain of ice and snow. (Outside, lots of storm clouds are forming, about to bury the Crystal Empire under a mountain of ice and snow. Everyone is shocked, but the baby smiles innocently) Flurry Heart: [cooing]
[To be continued...]
So what's the plan for ponies when you're done season 9? Previous gens? Gonna look into Filly Funtasia, or just gonna wait for gen 5 whenever that comes around?
Sometimes I cannot understand why some people have mixed feelings towards Flurry Heart. I personally like her. I mean who wouldn’t like her? She never did anything to anyone. And she shouldn’t be faulted for being an Alicorn, or anything else for that matter.
I've seen some say that she's ugly. I don't see it, but I feel like she may have been a bit overdesigned so the animators could show off how good they've gotten. Not a pet peeve of mine, though.
I have a pretty good idea why they don't like her. Many fanfics had used another kid in their stories that they themselves created (I have seen the name "Skyla" being mentioned as well as others). When the show used a different name/appearance they felt betrayed I assume. Yet, the show can't use fan made things without the consent of their creators. Thus much easier to make a different baby!
16:17 "That thing's poking her eye out!" And yet it doesn't seem to be hurting Pinkie at all. That explains how she can do those Pinkie Promises™ all the time.
Starlight Glimmer was really excited, but also nervous that she was going to be Princess Twilight’s new pupil.
Starlight Glimmer: I still can't believe you're letting me stay here... as your pupil.
Narrator: Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle received a letter from her brother, Shining Armor. The letter said that Shining Armor was going to be a father and Twilight an aunt to a new baby pony. So Starlight’s first friendship lesson was going to be reuniting with her old friend, Sunburst.
Twilight Sparkle: Your first friendship lesson is going to be... reuniting with Sunburst!
Narrator: When they arrived at the Crystal Empire, Twilight Sparkle was shocked when she discovered that the baby pony is an Alicorn, a pony with both a horn and wings.
Twilight Sparkle: The baby is an Alicorn?! Pinkie Pie: So she could be a super-strong flyer AND have crazy baby magic!
Narrator: Things were getting a little rough in babysitting the new baby. But later on, Twilight finally managed to calm her down, so that Princess Cadance could get her baby to safety. But just as things were going just fine, the baby pony suddenly let out a booming wail. The wail was so loud that it shattered the Crystal Heart into a bunch of crackly pieces… (Flurry Heart wailing) (Crystal Heart shattering) (everyone gasping) Narrator: …making it much harder to do the Crystalling. But it’s far worse than that. Without the Crystal Heart, the Crystal Empire is going to be buried under an entire mountain of ice and snow.
I hope Ponybro stays a bit ahead when it comes to show reactions. If i recall correctly, the Totally Legit Recap for episode 4 contains some pretty big spoilers for episode 6 near the end.
00:29 Most likely the Crystal Empire's version of Christening :J 01:38 You noticed :) 01:46 TARDIS technology :> 01:51 Yeah, especially that he was more covered up than usual :J 02:38 Oh no! Not the B's! Anything but that! Oh, they're in my I's! AAAAA! :@ 03:40 Pausing on the right frame at this timestamp will bring you a giggle ;) Ponies and their fetishes... :g 07:35 If anything, it was the Cutie Marxism :) 08:42 Nice, then you better stay away of dem aardvarks :J 09:49 Starlight's cute face :) 12:27 That look says: "I'll kill you later, you little sneaky lizzard" :q 13:28 Well, at least there's one place in which they don't treat Spike like crap :q 13:58 It's got tentacles :J 14:32 Actually, according to my genetic analysis, when one of the parents is an Alicorn, and the other is an impure Unicorn, there's 50% chance for the baby to be an Alicorn too (the other 50% goes to another impure Unicorn). But if Shining Armor were a pure Unicorn (that is, with no "wings" allele inherited from any of his parent), their baby could only be an impure Unicorn. Interestingly, according to the same analysis for the dihybrid cross between two impure Earth Ponies, there's a 6% chance for their baby to be an Alicorn too! :> Think Mr. and Mrs. Cake: they are both Earth ponies, and yet one of their children is a Pegasus, and the other one is a Unicorn! This can only mean that both these parents must have both the "wings" allele and "horn" allele in their genome, but hidden by the "no wings" and "no horn" alleles inherited by their other parents, so that these alleles couldn't express in their generation, but they could express in their children, if it so happened that the child inherited no "no wings" or no "no horn" allele from any of their parents. Which means that Mr. and Mrs. Cake must both be impure Earth Ponies, and both of them must have had an Alicorn somewhere in their ancestry line. And that there's 19% chances for their baby to be a Pegasus, 19% for a Unicorn, 56% for an Earth Pony, and 6% for an Alicorn. Conclusion: they should try harder :) 15:02 So that's what Death Stars are powered with... :> 17:50 Shiping fuel much? :J I mean, they saw each other in the bathroom, they seem to get along quite well, she trusts him with her deepest secrets that she hides from Twilight... :J There's definitely some good chemistry between those two ;) 18:18 "Are you a wizard? 9_6 " :) 18:48 I mean, where's the lie :D 19:27 Actually... horses have tits in a bit different place :q Don't ask... 22:31 And in that moment they knew they're screwed :q 11:58 A more proper description would be: The Baby of Doom :J
@JayJayForce Well, that would be more manageable for sure, but I don't think this theory is plausible, because the motions of those celestial bodies don't follow the same paths on the sky, and the stars don't move along with them. If only the Earth's rotation were affected, everything around it would be perceived as moving in the same direction and around the same axis. It's clearly not what we see in the episodes.
@Bon Bon I heard a theory that Celestia doesn't move the sun, but rather just changes the rotation and orientation of the planet and thus changing the location the sun is perceived to be at. Still really impressive, but a bit more manageable power wise I'd think and more reasonable that the Unicorn tribe of old could pull off the same. That or he's just a quack.
@Niclas W. You snide little combo breaker ;J OK, time for part 2... 23:20 Hahah I'm almost certain I've heard that one remixed that way somewhere ;) (My bet was on Tridashe, but I can't find it now :q ) 24:02 Here's a model of our solar system. And it's heliocentric. All previous occurrences of such models in this show were geocentric. Sunburst might be our world's Arystarchus of Samos if he figured it out ;) But shshsh, don't tell Celestia about his "heresy", we don't want him being sent to the Moon, do we? :q 26:10 A baby that can teleport, cannot be harmed by just throwing it ;J 26:52 See? I can't escape the fact of how well they get along with each other :) They are true friends. 28:18 PARTY HARD!!! \o\ \o/ /o/ \o/ \o\ TECHNO!! :) 32:42 His moustache makes Steven Magnet jealous :J 33:55 :D I shouldn't even be surprised at this point ;) 35:01 Yeah, pretty much. That's what would make them a great team :> 36:25 Yeah, let's hope it's just snow :J 37:42 Please don't use glue, OK? :s 37:57 Twilight outsmarted by a weeb ;) 38:22 Somnambula. Another name worth keeping in mind, after Mage Meadowbrook and her enchanted items ;> 39:52 All hail the Child of the Sun, your new god and saviour :g 40:21 This moment reminds me the scene from Jim Henson's "Dark Crystal" movie. 40:55 Too much solarium, I guess? :q 41:22 Well, it's her mother after all :J (And yes, it's the same voice actress). BTW this is the first time they spoke in this show. 42:10 :D True story ;D 42:25 Eyup :> 43:25 Unidentified Flying Changeling :J [cue "The X Files" theme] #IWantToBelieve 43:55 According to legends, Changelings were killing a newborn and taking its place to feed on the love its parents give it :>
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can also already watch Anthology 3 by now - I think it only went up to the first 2 episodes of Season 4 and Equestira Girls. Not entirely sure after which season Anthology 4 would fit in right now. Also after this season you can finally start watching DWK's Totally Legit series!!
You know maybe its because they actually don't interact much with each other but Celestia and Luna's heights seem to swing back and forth quite a bit now that I think about it. Here for example when they talk about Flurry being the first naturally born Alicorn (and come on you obvious doubters Celestia even states it) they look almost the same height with Celestia only having what appears to be a few inches on Luna but in other shots of them together she can sometimes be almost a full head taller then Luna
And thus began the age of the most evil being in Equestria - her dark reign of terror lasting thousands of years... Well technically she could be seen as this premiere's 'villain' :p
Don't worry about calling Flurry Heart a bitch, Will! Her soul is damned to the Old Gods, and thus she feels neither sorrow nor empathy for any, including herself. XD
40:40 "So how come they aren't always crystaly? Do these need, like, an orgasm of love every now and then to make them crystaly?" If that's the case, then Princess Cadance and Shining Armor must have experienced that state of being quite often in the past year or so. ;)
I liked how in the beginning there is a joke where Starlight walks in on Spike naked even though he never wears clothes she looks away covers her eyes and apologizes, also when Shining Armor said seeing the baby might be a shock I half expected the child to be a mule because Cadence was cheating on Shining Armor with a donkey that would have been far to risque for this show it would explain why they stopped wearing their rings the episode after they got married.
@@tnc7399It's just funny to imagine Cadence cheating on Shining Armor with a donkey and Starlight walking in on Spike Jacking off; that would have been way to risque to have on the actual sow of course.
@Super Sonic Again, it was specifically because of the fact that the show was going against it's original canon, which did become a problem going forward. This was more just a sign that things were gonna start losing consistency.
Bruh so ppl left the Fandom over a baby that meant nothing to the plot whatsoever aside from this season premiere and just 1 random episode from season 7
@Usagi1992 I really don't see any problem with the baby at all and don't get how she could get people to leave the fandom. But unfortunately the type of people you're describing are becoming sadly all too common. Nitpicking even the slightest detail for all its worth just to show how "bad" something is or how it didn't take the perfect "correct" path. People who just love to hate on things and want to show everyone else how much they hate it and how cool they are for doing so.
Yeah, closed-minded ignoramuses who do not understand that this show's intended primary audience are little girls, NOT grown-ass man-children who nitpick every goddamn thing about this show that doesn't fit into their headcanons.
Not exactly sure how an alicorn can just be born like that. I can chalk it up to Cadence being an alicorn, and passing on the genetics, but it's not like the show ever goes into detail about fictional recessive/dominant genes. Leave that to the fanbase.
All that talk about how the Crystal Heart was doing its job of preserving the empire even while not in place and without the light and love of the citizens is the most insulting retcon in the series. Specifically, it's insulting to Cadence, who was literally doing the Crystal Heart's job while it wasn't in place.
Cadence was keeping Sombra's evil essence out, not the weather. Sombra was also smart enough to hide the heart instead of just destroying it since he likely knew it was still needed to keep the weather out
To be honest I didn’t like this opener that much when I first saw it, I’ve never been a starlight fanatic, and for some reason I was still suspicious of her at first. I like her enough now though. Also, I will never like Flurryheart. Mostly because of her design, I think if she was just a unicorn with crazy power, or a Pegasus with huge wings, it would be better to me. Or maybe if she had normal eyes, and normal sized wings. She just doesn’t come across as a newborn, I guess.
That was never going to happen. The new foal being an alicorn was a Hasbro mandate, probably because their market research showed that was what would sell the most toys.

11 likesThis episode explores more lore and we get to know starlight more and introduce us to her former friend sunburst, more starlight the better. And yeah, starburst is a famous ship, a lot of fans ship them. although...
The main complaint this episode received is that the baby is an alicorn, it got a mixed reaction, many hated it.

8 likesThese Premieres were the best from the season 1 episode 1 when Celestia told Twilight to come to Ponyville without that happening then Crysalis Tyreck King Sombra Nightmare Moon and Flim and Flam would have taken over all of Equestria.

4 likesNot much to say on this episode.

0 likesI didn't know there were mixed opinions on this season, I think it's great, it has some of my favorite episodes.
13 likesReplies (6)
I don't really give a crap who wrote what, since I think that turns the focus from the quality of the episodes to the quality of the writers, which is mainly a problem because a good writer can still write a bad episode occasionally. That said, I feel like this season is a bit of a mixed bag, some good episodes and some that are kind of boring/uninteresting. I can understand why some people really do like this season and some really don't.
2 likes@H.
2 likes@H. LT Some other good writers joined the team though, for example Nick Confalone and Josh Haber (he joined with season 4 already), the former being responsible for "Forgotten Friendship", and the latter being responsible for quite a wholesome buildup for two great finales and several other great episodes.
3 likes@H. LT Season 1 and 2 are my least favorites, I still like them, but not nearly as much as the latest ones.
5 likesI recognize how good those 3 writers are, Amy Keating Rogers is actually my favorite.

Dan Kuso: Then Drago and I can melt the snow and ice and prevent the storm clouds from ever even reachin' us! You ready, Drago?

Princess Celestia: I wouldn't advise that either, Dan.
(brakes screech)
Dan Kuso: Huh? [beat] What are you talkin' about? Quit foolin' around, Princess Celestia.
Princess Celestia: I'm not fooling around, Dan. If you and Drago go out there, you could end up setting the Empire on fire. These clouds are way too powerful for you two to stop.

I've seen some say that she's ugly. I don't see it, but I feel like she may have been a bit overdesigned so the animators could show off how good they've gotten. Not a pet peeve of mine, though.
1 like@Kathera Lockharte Princess Skyla wasn't a fan creation, though; her name and appearance is based on an official Hasbro toy.
1 likeI have a pretty good idea why they don't like her.

The wail was so loud that it shattered the Crystal Heart into a bunch of crackly pieces…
(Flurry Heart wailing)
(Crystal Heart shattering)
(everyone gasping)
Narrator: …making it much harder to do the Crystalling. But it’s far worse than that. Without the Crystal Heart, the Crystal Empire is going to be buried under an entire mountain of ice and snow.

13:58 It's got tentacles :J
14:32 Actually, according to my genetic analysis, when one of the parents is an Alicorn, and the other is an impure Unicorn, there's 50% chance for the baby to be an Alicorn too (the other 50% goes to another impure Unicorn).
Conclusion: they should try harder :)
15:02 So that's what Death Stars are powered with... :>

1 like@Bon Bon I heard a theory that Celestia doesn't move the sun, but rather just changes the rotation and orientation of the planet and thus changing the location the sun is perceived to be at. Still really impressive, but a bit more manageable power wise I'd think and more reasonable that the Unicorn tribe of old could pull off the same. That or he's just a quack.
