I wasn't in traditional school for long but my schools janitor would make a point to say hi to me and we developed this little greeting and it was always a race to see who could say it quicker than the other. He was so nice and seeing this comment thread brought those memories back and made me miss him. Feeling really thankful for the janitors in our lives 💗

I love these lyrics. I feel like they're so different than most songs lyrics.
To me I think of the lyrics basically telling a story about a girl that talks about an imaginary great and wonderful life that she wishes she had.
So when she says "Lucy in the skies with diamonds", she is trying to say that she is day dreaming about having a life she would enjoy.
At one point she says "and she's gone." I think when she says that shes trying to say that shes gone from reality and any problems shes been focusing on, because she's in her mind/ day dreaming.
Edit: Yes, I know these aren't the story behind the lyrics. I'm just saying what comes to my mind when I read them.

Erin seems a little coincidental that after they threatened to ban the song from playing that he would come up with a story about his son. They were notorious for doing drugs, there’s no reason to deny it, it doesn’t make the song any less beautiful.
@sharkrat Maybe people don't know the lyrics. How do you know that everyone knows them? Also, some people just like reading the lyrics to songs, part of the reason is to sometimes get a better understanding of what they mean.
Also, think of it this way. -People like reading books and sometimes even read the same book twice; you know why? Because they like to. It's the same concept with reading lyrics.

Alright, so the Beatles claim that this song isn't written to be about LSD or inspired by LSD or whatever. BUT, hear me out, art is open to interpretation and A LOT of people who have actually had the drug think that the song is both aurally and lyrically reminiscent of an LSD experience. @Alexia The song was literally banned from BBC Radio One because it was about drugs. The 60s weren't like today when you can just say whatever you want, they lied so it wouldn't be censored (or to mess with people). You have to be incredibly naive to think they accidentally named their song "LSD".

Every single beatle has been honest about what songs were drug inspired, you have to be an incredibly casual beatles fan to not realise that. Ringo Starr said he was there when Julian said the title of the painting was Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Why the hell would the beatles be honest about all their drug inspired songs except for one. That's ridiculous.
I think the controversy with the BBC over drug references was with the song 'A Day In The Life' and that was banned because someone tipped them off about it. Funny thing was the BBC thought the "Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall" was the drug reference (alluding to heroin) the real references (I'd love to turn you on...) (had a smoke) going straight over their heads...whoosh!
I was a twin and sadly she died two weeks before I was born, my parents named her Lucy and I have a faint distant memory of my parents singing this song to me when I was younger. So this song is so much more beautiful and special now especially since hearing you sing it again. x

It's normal that you are constantly changing and evolving and wanting your channel to best represent you at any particular point in time that is the present. It's not like your channel is a public historical archive about you. It's content you create and manage however you want to. Dodes your voice sounds different, more whispery/in your head voice. I thought you’d been singing more but then I got to the end and maybe it’s because you are different & starting to speak differently. Then other differences started popping out too like your rhythm & cadence and stuff (other stuff could just be from singing more tho). It’s really cool! Liked the cover, hope you think it’s a good difference :)
I dunno if it helps, but the way I’ve always thought of a guitarlele is a guitar with a capo on the 5th fret (being a guitar player first). Another way to think of it would be a low G tuning on the highest four strings with two strings each a fourth below which might be easier for you to wrap your head around being a uke player first. Then when you transfer those shapes onto a guitar you transpose it down a fourth to get the correct root. for the guitalele you might’ve figured this out, but if that’s an A in the E position, then the notes are the same as a standard uke! there’s just two extra lower strings. (A and D probably?)

Buying more instruments and learning to play them is a great idea. The experience will make you better with more options and ideas for writing more songs. You also have the technology to put everything together, to be sure it sounds right.
I'm a cello player and at school we had to name our cellos I immediately thought of how you were learning it so my cellos name was dodie but my class room got flooded and my cello was broken also the ironic part was when I was checking on it (post flood) someone but the label Josh on it under dodie and I thought some one knew and fangirled for like half a minute then my teacher said someone just stuck on there

The internet is weird... having a huge record of everything you do/say isn't normal and people change and might not like people seeing the stuff they did online years ago so it's 100% okay to private old videos. Don't delete them completely though in case you want to go back and rewatch them!

As for removing old videos, there's no need to apologize. What you choose to share is your business. We have no right to consume and even less right to demand of you your privacy. That being said, I support the idea of keeping your past visible, even when it's embarrassing... because it's a sign of your growth. Use those videos as a source of introspection and inspiration and make new videos responding to yourself through older, wiser eyes (is it possible on youtube to go back and edit to add links to your own responses?) Take that as you will - it's certainly not a demand, but a suggestion as an alternative as you've clearly had second thoughts (or at least concerns) about removing the old videos. That all being said, your music is lovely, your collaborations are awesome, and the worldview you've shared is kind, well considered, and mature - you've nothing to be concerned about.
In truth, I can think of only one video that expressed some powerful negativity (a "why and how" on your vloggle). That one, in particular, is hugely important in so many ways, and I urge you to not take that one down; it's critical for people is similar situations to see that they're not alone in their struggles and to see that "life after" can be so fulfilling. Should you choose to remove that one... I still support your right to privacy. But again.... I think it'd be so much better to write a song celebrating all the joy and peace you've found since (kind of like a 3rd part after Ready Now). And don't BS - you can't fake the kind of joy you see at the end of the live version of Would you be so kind. But I'm rambling....

Guitalele 💜💜💜 ADGCEA it's a perfect 4th above guitar if it helps (capo5). I feel the struggles (I have a yamaha GL1) but it's definately much more portable than a guitar, they fit in tenor uke cases if you ever need to get one. Sorry I clicked on the video then immediately started freaking out about the guitalele!

@doodleoddle Of course the community's response is overwhelmingly positive. We're all just a bunch of sheep wired to press like as soon as some wounded person "finds their way". But hear me out. Deleting your history means not acknowledging your past and who you've been. That was you, however bad you feel about it. And taking away the option from people to learn about you as a whole kills a big part of your music listening experience as well. I understand your music much better because I watched all the videos about the hard times you've had. Those are the real gems of your channel - nobody wants to watch tour updates from 3 years ago or whatever. Give people the chance to know you and then do some new videos taking about how things have changed. A much better plan than to just stuff it all under a rug like it never happened and smile away.
You're probably never going to see this, and even if you do I don't expect it to make much of a difference. But I truly believe this is the case. Give it some thought.

To me I think of the lyrics basically telling a story about a girl that talks about an imaginary great and wonderful life that she wishes she had.
So when she says "Lucy in the skies with diamonds", she is trying to say that she is day dreaming about having a life she would enjoy.
At one point she says
"and she's gone."
I think when she says that shes trying to say that shes gone from reality and any problems shes been focusing on, because she's in her mind/ day dreaming.

BUT, hear me out, art is open to interpretation and A LOT of people who have actually had the drug think that the song is both aurally and lyrically reminiscent of an LSD experience. The 60s weren't like today when you can just say whatever you want, they lied so it wouldn't be censored (or to mess with people). You have to be incredibly naive to think they accidentally named their song "LSD".

5 likes@notnormalyet ah yes because the BBC is omniscient and somehow knows exactly what all the songs are actually about. there were rumours at the time before the song even came out that the acronym was for drugs and they just banned it because of that. they also banned day in the life, is that about drugs? after it had already been censored they had no reason to continue to "lie", like why would they admit to other songs being about drugs while to this day insisting this one wasnt? there were multiple people in the room when Julian Lennon had drawn a picture and said it was of lucy in the sky with diamonds, John wrote many songs inspired by what his son said and the drug isn't called "LITSWD". the lyrics were inspired by the work of Lewis Carroll and it was named after Julian's classmate Lucy O'Donnell.

Every single beatle has been honest about what songs were drug inspired, you have to be an incredibly casual beatles fan to not realise that. Ringo Starr said he was there when Julian said the title of the painting was Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Why the hell would the beatles be honest about all their drug inspired songs except for one. That's ridiculous.

0 likesI dunno if it helps, but the way I’ve always thought of a guitarlele is a guitar with a capo on the 5th fret (being a guitar player first). Another way to think of it would be a low G tuning on the highest four strings with two strings each a fourth below which might be easier for you to wrap your head around being a uke player first. Then when you transfer those shapes onto a guitar you transpose it down a fourth to get the correct root.

What you usually have is a very small revelation, a tiny peek behind the fabric of an individual’s hidden face - to see the gnawing, monstrous evil that hides behind it all. The darkness that gleefully forces forlorn voices to cry out in hopelessness and misery. You come to see that the horrid individual leers at you and knows with grim satisfaction that they can bide their time because, sooner or later, they will get you in the end.
Such people must be called out. Don’t sit back and say and do nothing. Take the high road. Next time, the evil could come for you.

That being said, I support the idea of keeping your past visible, even when it's embarrassing... because it's a sign of your growth. Use those videos as a source of introspection and inspiration and make new videos responding to yourself through older, wiser eyes (is it possible on youtube to go back and edit to add links to your own responses?) Take that as you will - it's certainly not a demand, but a suggestion as an alternative as you've clearly had second thoughts (or at least concerns) about removing the old videos. 1 likeOf course the community's response is overwhelmingly positive. We're all just a bunch of sheep wired to press like as soon as some wounded person "finds their way". But hear me out. Deleting your history means not acknowledging your past and who you've been. That was you, however bad you feel about it. And taking away the option from people to learn about you as a whole kills a big part of your music listening experience as well. I understand your music much better because I watched all the videos about the hard times you've had. Those are the real gems of your channel - nobody wants to watch tour updates from 3 years ago or whatever. Give people the chance to know you and then do some new videos taking about how things have changed. A much better plan than to just stuff it all under a rug like it never happened and smile away.
You're probably never going to see this, and even if you do I don't expect it to make much of a difference. But I truly believe this is the case. Give it some thought.
