Al di Meola strast prema akustičnoj gitari nije umanjila njegovu ljubav prema glazbi. U suradnji s Gibsonom izdana je Jazz gitara Al di Meola. U potpunoj suprotnosti s njegovim uobičajenim Les Paulom, ova gitara je veliko šuplje tijelo slično L-5. Jazz gitara omogućuje di Meoli postizanje toplijeg tona; međutim, činilo se da je prolazio kroz pozornicu Pata Methenyja u vrijeme ove snimke. Dobra strana je što di Meolini solo nastupi kombiniraju njegovu izvanrednu kontrolu s novootkrivenim osjećajem zamaha, a loša strana je što se čini da je izgubio dio svog identiteta. "Čileanska pjesma" stoji kao jedna od najupečatljivijih skladbi di Meole. Prateća glumačka postava Marija Parmisana i Petera Erskinea uvelike pojačava glazbu, jer je svaka od njih prepoznatljiv i ukusan glazbenik. Erskine posebno blista u "Summer Country Song". Jedini plamenik ovdje je "Casmir", brza melodija koja podsjeća na elegantne ciganske dane. "On My Own" prikazuje di Meolin prvijenac na klaviru. To nipošto nije ništa spektakularno, ali potvrđuje njegovo daljnje istraživanje i rast. Al di Meola's passion for acoustic guitar did not diminish his love of music. In collaboration with Gibson, Al di Meola's Jazz Guitar was released. In stark contrast to his usual Les Paul, this guitar is a large hollow body similar to the L-5. Jazz guitar allows di Meoli to achieve a warmer tone; however, he appeared to be passing through Pat Metheny's stage at the time of this recording. The upside is that Di Mel's solo performances combine his extraordinary control with a newfound sense of momentum, and the downside is that he seems to have lost some of his identity. "Chilean Song" stands as one of di Meola's most memorable compositions. The accompanying cast of Mario Parmisan and Peter Erskine greatly enhances the music, as each of them is a recognizable and tasty musician. Erskine is particularly glowing in "Summer Country Song." The only burner here is "Casmir," a quick melody reminiscent of elegant gypsy days. "On My Own" features Di Mel's piano debut. This is by no means spectacular, but confirms its further research and growth. Strong play and the quality of compositions make it recommended despite the metheny aromas. ~ Robert Taylor... La passion d’Al di Meola pour la guitare acoustique n’a pas diminué son amour de la musique. En collaboration avec Gibson, la Jazz Guitar d’Al di Meola a été publiée. En contraste frappant avec sa Les Paul habituelle, cette guitare est un grand corps creux semblable à la L-5. La guitare jazz permet à di Meoli d’obtenir un ton plus chaud; cependant, il semblait passer par la scène de Pat Metheny au moment de cet enregistrement. L’avantage est que les performances solo de Di Mel combinent son contrôle extraordinaire avec un nouveau sens de l’élan, et l’inconvénient est qu’il semble avoir perdu une partie de son identité. « Chanson chilienne » est l’une des compositions les plus mémorables de di Meola. La distribution d’accompagnement de Mario Parmisan et Peter Erskine rehausse grandement la musique, car chacun d’eux est un musicien reconnaissable et savoureux. Erskine est particulièrement brillant dans « Summer Country Song ». Le seul brûleur ici est « Casmir », une mélodie rapide qui rappelle les jours gitans élégants. « On My Own » présente les débuts de Piano de Di Mel. Ce n’est en aucun cas spectaculaire, mais confirme ses recherches et sa croissance. Le jeu fort et la qualité des compositions le rendent recommandé malgré les arômes metheny. ~ Robert Taylor...
