Lol, this episode was one of the ones that made me realize how much like Pinkie Pie I can be. More excited for my friends reaching their goals than my own. That plus I too have literally bruised someone's rib giving them a bear hug back in high school. XD
From what I seem to get the Wonderbolts are the equivalent of aerobic flight teams like the Blue Angels, with even the smoke trails, they’re part of the navy but just for performance not airborne combat.
At this point in time they seem to be Air show/Flight instructors, but with all things considered, they're Air Force Elite, who's mostly doing demonstration performances with all the aerobic flight and no combat demo involved when there's no actual war. I mean, SEAL, Spetsnaz and their colleagues from other countries do such things do those (with combat involved though, but hey, this world is clearly less military-oriented than ours), why Bolts wouldn't? I mean, Sombraverse from later season is clear example of it. A bit less in The Final Battle. As for "They do nothing in season finales" – It's more of a Leave It To MC Cliché/Acceptable(?) Breaks From Reality.
Oh, and than again, there's full history of this Unit, so...
(Pinkie Pie gets a giant megaphone and shouts as loudly as she possibly can.) Pinkie Pie: (shouts) DON'T FORGET TO WRITE!!! (Her shouting is so loud it echoes all over the land, the trees, clouds and mountains start rumbling, and the other four ponies and Leah and the Battle Brawlers are all blow back a little. After Pinkie is done yelling, she turns to the others, who now all have messy hair from her shouting.) Pinkie Pie: (to the others) Do you think she heard me? Shun Kazami: (groans) I dunno, Pinks.
The Military Bronies React group were right about this episode. Aside from some training methods a drill instructor would normally handle with new recruits, Spitfire here is just not threatening. She’s nothing.
Though I applaud Kelly Metzger for her performance as Spitfire. It’s one I had fun watching and listening to.
I was waiting the whole for Lighting Dust to be punish for her attitude and insubordination. Frankly, I was disappointed because she didn't get as harsh a punishment as she deserved. Frankly I feel like Spitfire enabled her for the most part.
I think it’s because lightning dust had the skills to back up her talk I think. She and rainbow were constantly smashing records, so I can see spitfire overlooking lightning dust’s behavior and attitude cause she proved she could back up her talk.
Probably disagree on "blocking view" part, since winger in this circumstances supposed to go for the trail of leader, but yes, it WAS, in fact, Lightning Dust's fault.
Quick question, did u actually watch the seasons in the right order? I’m just confused since the order of the uploade seems to jump between seasons. Anyway, love ur reactions!🙃🙃
15:46 You shouldn't excuse yourself for your medical condition. Am I wrong? 20:36 Wrong. She led on full speed despite what's RD said. AND RD couldn't just slow down, because pairs are supposed to stick or else disqualification (in this particular case; worse in circumstances they're trained for. You're military, I'm not, and so I'm not supposed to teach you how that part works). So... Technically it's kinda her fault in the first place.
Some fans defend lightning dust here but she clearly is not cut for a military unite, spitfire handled this situation badly and should have been punished to, but equestrian military sucks so...
To be fair, I don't think the Wonderbolts are even a real military unit, they're an acrobatics and race group. Their chain of command and training might be inspired by military organization and protocol, but at this point they are just for entertainment. I think there is even an in-universe explanation for this, where they discussed the history of Wonderbolts and said they branched off from the actual Equestrian Defense Force.
Like I would call the Royal Guard part of the Equestrian Military but not the Wonderbolts.

Oh so just justifies almost killing someone. Also the Fact that Lightning shows no remorse for it is questionable. Though hats nothing compared to her later appearance where she literally puts Scootaloo a child in danger.
Rainbow showed character growth here. That made me love her more.

17 likesThis is a pretty good episode. Rainbow Dash is great. Lightning Dust acts as a great foil. The way it end is pretty good.
9 likesI know lightning dust is arrogant as fuck, but she does seem to have to skills to back up that arrogance imo
5 likesPinkie cares about rainbow dash a lot ❤❤❤
3 likesShe did cut Rainbow Dash's wings :/ It's her fault because she wanted to go to fast and blocked Rainbow's view

I think, that she got certain points, but her butt should be ultimately get kicked for overall performance. Not in "Team Rocket Blasting Off" way.

Lightning Dust was only punished because the ponies who were invading Military Airspace without prior notice were more important than she was.
