The reason this VM did that is because it failed to read the disk and that was next in the boot order. I recommend you change that on your school computers to save a lot of time while booting. That's unless they actually use network booting.

Not really. You either have to fix your MBR or BIOS manually, or reinstall Windows. Reinstalling Windows is the best and the easiest option, but however you may lose your data and files. However, fixing your MBR is way harder, but you already have your files, cause you are using the same system. So, if you mean by reinstalling Windows, then okay, it may be easy.
