To add onto your arguments, just because something is inherently flawed doesn't mean it's not worth experiencing, and those who believe their golden piece of media should be shielded against criticism are shortsighted in that respect. It's a pathetic mindset where the poster in question requires justification to simply enjoy something, as if they'll be rejected from some super epic sekrit club if they like anything less than the absolute best. They are nothing more than bandwagoners. There is no true passion there. Anypony with a smidge of self-awareness can admit something has problems, but they still love it for what it is, instead of what it isn't. And, the early bronies saying "You just don't get it" who are unable to say in a couple sentences something they LIKE about the show, have to be bandwagoners too. What a hostile response wrought with insecurity. Even then, flaws can give something character that otherwise wouldn't. The Divine Comedy is filled with fanfiction-tier pitfalls, with the narrator being the LITERAL self insert of the author, and a large portion of it being commentary on what-was current Italian politics that instantly dated the work, but it's disingenuous to say it doesn't have a bunch of cool shit. Would a flawless Divine Comedy have the same character it does in its current form? No, I don't think it would at all.

Discussing flaws in media is constructive. The only way we can improve anything is to identify its shortcomings and discuss them ad nauseam to find a solution, as all work is ultimately iterative. Like you horsefuckers said, /v/ is a terrible place to have any sort of discussion, whether you want to highlight what made something good or bad. Videogame discourse is broken as a whole. There are two dominant crowds on that board: the fanboys who can't accept criticism and the TORtanic doomsayers who will shit on everything for the sake of it, leaving those in the middle shit outta luck, and the 'nostalgia' argument is HUGE in games. I can't fucking stand it. Shitters get filtered by Fallout 1/2's UI, Doom 1/2's mazelike level design, Morrowind's lack of waypoints, you name it, people will say fans only like them because of nostalgia. On the board it has to be bait, but it's stated so often elsewhere, I can't help but get frustrated by it.

Nostalgia works both ways. Stating a work is only appealing because of 'nostalgia' is a cop out argument. It has no basis, it can't be defended. It offers nothing to discuss. Conversely, being blinded by nostalgia wraps back around to the first point, where people can't admit something is flawed. There is no discussion here, either. Black holes of arguments that devolve to shit every time. There are only opinions and preferences. We got into MLP because it's a show about cute ponies doing cute things. Maybe some newer fans like it when the show turned to cute ponies doing non-cute things, then eventually fucking creatures doing creature shit. I hate G5. G5 was undoubtedly directed by marketing people looking at market trends, trying to cast the widest net possible for mass appeal, for the sole purpose of appeasing investors. Barneyfag was right, the G5 faces look like big ol' purple ass Barney. The lack of G5 fan content is a testament to how soulless it is. But, I won't go into their threads and shit on the thing they like, I'll just hide it. Sometimes I'll wonder why they like the things they do, but I reflect on my passions, and realize the same question could be asked to me. I say let them make putrid shit, as it really doesn't effect us at the end of the day. It's been long enough to spot who truly has a passion for G4 and who lacks it. Keep the ride going. Keep making shit. Like the bandwagoners in the early days of the fandom, the G5 bandwagon will eventually sail when they have the next thing to soy over. Words, words, words. I appreciate the video. Interesting discussion, nice to listen to while working. Make more. Thanks.
