Yea, no way I'd use that installation even after the clean up. Even tho I can't be sure there are any, I'd be too concerned about any more deeper-rooted malware still remaining after. Paranoia would kill me.
This is only a problem, if any hooks it used were not removed. There are a handful of registry keys, malware can hide in. if you only delete the file and forget to delete that key, you will basically leave the door open.

@@XRADOFFICIAL While this is true, in most cases a format will do the job. For simplicity let's say during a fresh install you perform a quick format. All this does is removes the headers and marks them as free space. When in this state the virus cannot be ran. Unless a new pointer is made. Even then has a large chance of being corrupted and not being to run correctly. A simple fragment of a virus left over on a sector will not harm anything because it is already corrupted. Also when an item is in the recycle bin it is not normally accessible.

With such an infected computer, a simple removal can not always help in particular that the viruses will be on the disk in a hidden trash can or there will be remnants in free sectors on the disk (free space) Then you have to permanently delete the file (Shift+Delete) instead of deleting (delete).You should still remove the free space, and when changing the system wipe the disk.
I just love the sheer audacity you had to infect a computer with malware, proceed to say it is your best one yet, and then make a copy of it before getting rid of the malware.
Worked in a repairshop for a while and did this sort of thing. I can confidently say that I can already hear a whiny customer complaining about his icons being removed, despite nearly all of them being pup's.
@@escapetherace1943 I can't profess to know what you mean by "boom boom" but it was often times the typical misunderstanding of internet safety that caused the problem. Clicking links in emails, clicking yes to every UAC prompt, or oftentimes disabling UAC altogether, downloading supposed "antivirus" which was usually packaged with other pup's and act as a vector for other pup's to self-install. Pretty typical stuff really and no amount of explanation as to why these are bad practices ever helps, because even people in their 20's will just forget it, or not care at all in the first place, at least not until they install a crypto miner or ransomware and the machine becomes unusable. Then it becomes the tech's fault for not fully explaining the dangers associated with being a nitwit, and downloading shady crap. Rant over lol.

The abbreviation stands for 'Potentially Unwanted Program" P U P = PUP. Most of the time the nonsense programs you see that pretend to or are widgets that serve little to no function and are likely datamining or stealing information from you. Usually pups end up on a computer by someone who doesn't understand the risks of the internet and simply launches everything they download, even more so people who click on bad ads or follow ads from other ads and allow them access to the browser, etc. Practically everything bad you don't want on a PC comes from people clicking on garbage while browsing the internet. I suggest staying only on safe sites, using something like malwarebytes, installing something like uBlock origin to protect you and remove unwanted ads, and running all executables from places they could've been laced with malware through at least two different, good malware scanners. Combine this with scheduled back-ups and malware checks and you'll be good to go. Also only accept necessary or no cookies in most of cases.

I worked at a IT company and one standard everyday job was cleaning the pc's of coworkers. On average there was 52 payloads found a day on 1 pc. Sometimes a MITB ( man in the browser ). They really should install a firewall or managed policy rules.

They handle websites of local business and webshops. And transfer medical information. So you understand i grow a little cynical over those years after i adressed it multiple times.
Me using computer: Downloading stuff I like. Me after running antivirus: 0 threats detected. I don't install random stuff, only stuff that I like to use and know isn't malware.
Worst I have is restoro getting flagged by my anti-virus as a pup, which it likely is because I uninstalled it 3 years ago and it's still getting flagged
keep in mind that every file is a detection (so if something has 50 files, that can be 50 detections from 1 virus) and MB detects A LOT of things as malicious or PUP. Not always in a good sense :D
Damn I must've been one sensible kid if an 8 year old could corrupt a PC, I got my first laptop when I was literally 3 years old and nothing bad happened to it (apart from it becoming outdated since it was a laptop made in 2008)
When I was little my dad gave me full access to his work computer and I fucked it up so badly so many times. He would spent hours removing all the shit I accidentally downloaded. And now I actually work in IT and help him with his computer now. Quite the turn of events!
My old windows xp lap had an virus, it was netsky I think. It copied to all devices connected while I had to add some files. Dad removed it using registry and other stuff, and I didn’t do anything.

That is some impressive work. I'm actually surprised by how close the system is back to it's original state.. Though it's still obviously ideal to reinstall Windows to ensure there's no malware left over whatsoever.
the last bios "infector" in my memory was CIH which bricked the entire computer with its payload of just writing random bytes into the bios chip as far as i know, no malware that's currently out goes anywhere near firmware. the closest things to that are various backdoors found in manufacturers' firmware for unknown purposes

I would rather clean the drive by writing every cluster or magnetizing for hdd at this point. Never sure enough. Every damn mosfet in that drive wants to share your data to literally everyone on the whole internet.
Also some specific malware could infect the BIOS chip in the motherboard and still remains intact after fresh install (the option to remove BIOS malware is desolder the infected BIOS chip and replacing the BIOS chip with the good, uninfected one)

Worth noting that connecting an infected machine like this to wifi can be rather risky. Some malware will try to spread to other connected devices in the network.
Doubt it, those are called worms, and typically they would exploit a vulnerability in network protocols, considering this is a bunch of old malware and without internet and updates from c2, probability of spreading is very low.
I always had a mindset that if my pc got infected, then even though it may not be able to be removed from inside, the good old hammer could do a great job from the outside lmao

Great job! I use Kaspersky Rescue Disc for a job like this myself, it is just easier because it boots in a clean environment to work with while disinfecting.

I usually do this with my friends and family's computers. I ALWAYS try to go for the remdy/Clean up option first. I like trying to fix every issue possible without having to reinstall Windows all over (and possibly deal with backing up a ton of shit). And it honestly feels rewarding when you see the result.. Yeah, even if you removed all surface malware, you would probably still have concerns about deep-rooted malware on the HDD. I would just say "forget it" and do a fresh reinstall of Windows. It seems to be the best option.

It looks like @eleanorbartle5354’s comment is hidden now, but she basically had an idea of a form of infectious malware that could even spread through physical contact between digital storage devices even while they are turned off, necessitating careful disposal in special facilities.
Really liked video :) some suggestions towards next videos about virus removal from me would be: -using proces explorer with virustotal column added to have a closer view if anything harmfull is still running -throwaway pendrive: you can invest little money to get a pendrive with mechanical switch that put pendrive in read mode only. I use one of this all the time as i work as IT technical repairing at local computer store. -for uninstalling programs i recommend revo uninstaller - free tool which allows to select multiple programs and uninstall them + after uninstall it scans for leftover files and registry from app so its more deep cleanup after reinstall my top infected computer i had from customer had 27000+ threats found in malwarebytes (some were ofc from same malware as malwarebytes count every file and registry as new threat)

2:05 Thanks for giving me an info about a free disk cloning software, because when I'm looking for any disk cloning tutorial, most of the tutorials forced me to use either Minitool Partition Wizard or EaseUS To Do Backup, which are now forcing its users to use a subscription service just to use the disk cloning feature
If it's this bad I will for sure reinstall and burn the whole thing down but very nice restore and satisfy to watch! My coworker once got a ransomware (just one), I told him to "NUKE THE WHOLE THING". You never know what "free stuff" you will get from a single infection. Today it's all nasty thing, keylogger, info stealer so on and so on, better to be safe.
With a single infection, it's fairly safe to assume you can fix it. You will need to research the virus to figure out exactly how it works, but it's possible to fully scrub a machine of it.
When you install over six THOUSAND viruses from random sources, that becomes significantly harder and exponentially more time consuming. You go from a task that'll take a day or two to something that'll take a lifetime or two.
Malwarebytes and Tdsskiller do most of the heavy lifting.. but in cases like this I would absolutely suggest a 100% clean wipe (after backing up anything worth saving, of course)
You did a good job of returning back to its original state but if it were me, I would get put a Windows 11 or 10 iso on an USB and do a complete format and reinstall windows. Never know if there is hidden stuff or if the malware infected critical system files that if the antivirus removes it'll bork something, had it happen before.

That infected startup also reminds me kinda of my old laptop I had until 2022. I remember trying to use the innate Record feature in Roblox to make a video on Become Fumo back when I had that laptop and I'm not kidding when I say that it crashed my entire computer.
Very very rare that will happen as long as your virtual machine software is fully updated, and you turn off certain features that allow for connectivity between the vm and host. No networking, no shared folders, etc.
You'll still run into issues with malware that can detect its in a VM and refuse to run, so you need to use virtualbox with the vbox hardened loader.
I'm a sysadmin, and I definitely take reimaging for granted. Malware? Reimage. Broken updates? Reimage. BSOD? Reimage. It saves a lot of time on needless troubleshooting when you can just get the PC back to a known working and stable build in less than an hour.
sure, reinstalling windows is the better choice, but this is a really good way of going about it if theres important data on the computer, at least to make its retrieval easier

Many system "optimization"(destruction) master in China like to provide windows 10 with a windows 7 style start menu and it often get it turned on without notifying the user. Which is very annoying for people who like the new windows 10 start menu more. I used to have one of them on my old PC simply because the name is so tricky! I used to think that they are here mainly to protect my computer. Which a lot of them did actually scanned and removed viruses for me. But now, as I learn more I realized that their most important job is actually destroying the system!!! Virus scanning is just their mask to fool to noobs so they don't get uninstalled by the user. I think you should get your data on another hard drive and format the drive, then reinstall windows, it would be so much cleaner if you disinfect the computer before backing up that data.

I once had infected my PC so badly that I couldn't normally use it and 100% of the processor would be busy once PC fully started.
From the moment where I could see my desktop to the moment where trash-ware started popping up, I had a little window of time to quickly boot task manager and end unnecessary tasks. Once I did it, I had some breathing room and finally could start removing some programs.
After the removal and the process of resetting my PC, checking the task manager for garbage and deleting the related programs over and over again, I have installed temporarily some antiviruses and turned on windows defender (didn't even realise I had it off).
After my hard work, antiviruses job and windows defender magic, I was left with a clean PC that now has no signs of any malware or other stuff (I have deleted the antivirus I have downloaded because it was Avast and I don't like it)
The PC was left with an annoying scar though - every time I boot my PC, shortly after logging in I am greeted with a PowerShell command window (which is empty). It just appears, chills for about a second and leaves. It appears every time I boot my PC and only once. From the time I turn my PC on to the time I turn it off.

yes, because norton is premium garbage and should be avoided. it was good when it was first launched but has become adware you subscribe to at this point.
During the scan I expected around 5000 infections. I was off as well. I repaired a laptop in 2010 with malwarebytes. The laptop so was so infected that any task would require going to do another task to kill time. Go make a sandwich, get something to drink, etc. I found little over 5000 infections when I scanned. Took about an hour of time to scan, remove and remove installations of programs. PC was running like knew when I finished. Best $50 I got for 2 hours of work. I am commenting because many many people frown on Malwarebytes. I tell them often. It is the BEST free anti-virus and can save your PC. I do not trust anything else except ADW Cleaner.

I've a nice tool to recommend, it's called Hitman Pro and is like AdwCleaner, I think it would've been a nice touch to try scanning the infected machine with it
One thing I would have done when cleaning malware10, is I would have gone into malware bytes settings and enable rootkit scans, so it could clean some of the most nested malware on the computer
The worst kinda of garbage popping up on the desktop. Viruses run rampant and shady Antiviruses rule the screen. Computer slows to a crawl, making a simple task a chore.
If you guys get a threatening email from a hacker that installed malwares in your computer do not worry just ignore it and please recover all of your email and other important account as soon as possible please do not try to recover ur account on an infected computer as the hacker will still have access to your computer and will be likely stole your account for ever...

In reply to the chat replay, I agree that you don't have to switch to a Linux distro over Windows, since you've already built your workflow on it. But I call BS about how Linux (as a whole) is uneccesary, mainly because in so many comparisons (including mine), Windows has used up far more system resources just sitting on the desktop by itself (no user-added programs or OEM stuff) than my current Fedora 37 setup, which even with at least 4 not-so-open-source background programs (i.e. Discord, Steam...), still uses <2 GB of RAM at idle.

It might be some kind of third party stuff. Like, wargaming would buy advertizing from a certain company and then that company would pas another company a certain percentage to advertize it in any way. And most of those WoT installations were fake I would guess.
Yeah, even after a thorough cleanup I still wouldn't risk using that installation, I would probably be too paranoid to use it, so I'd reinstall windows.
Easy as pie. Copy the the files you need and do a clean install. Also, install an antivirus like avira before copying the files back and then scan the files you copied back

Been years since I have had to use malwarebytes on a client computer used to be red in colour and we would always run it in safe mode . These days computers are so quick it’s faster just to reinstall the entire OS and you know you got rid of the crap . In saying that I work in the corporate world and no longer on dumb arse home user computers
when i was rly young nobody had explained cybersecurity or viruses to me so i would click on actual popups that would give me viruses (even had a fake virus google browser replace the real browser at one point). my dad helped me because i was ‘having trouble playing roblox’, turned out i had 10,000 viruses on there
Not all viruses has been cleaned for sure. 1 miner or stealer should be enough to ruin everything. The best solution is to copy files you need and then do a Windows reinstall, or smash the hard drive for good. Both ways works perfect.
I can already tell the explorer is carrying some bad BHO.. explorer.exe should NEVER ask for internet access or give process blocking errors about HTTP.
How well would a Windows Defender offline cleaning done in lieu of that initial Safe Mode offline malwarebytes scan? The one where it reboots into an offline self-contained instance and scrubs the whole drive? How many instances would it catch?
Should have also backed up and released the cleaned up version to see if people could find more. I bet with RogueKiller and HijackThis I could have maybe found at least a couple more things.

Also, I've cleaned my PC up from viruses (hopefully, nothing happens) and everytime a moment after it starts, PowerShell boots for a second and disappears (this blue command tab, appears for a second with no text and goes away, it won't reappear during the session it already appeared)

This looks as slow as the computers i played on as a kid trying to find cartoons and sonic and Pokemon games except i didn't download alot. I remember accidentally downloading sonic adventure on my grandma's computer and it was infected with a virus and it blocked Firefox completely so I couldn't use Firefox anymore until I told my grandpa and uncle to help me fix it. They got it working again but they were mad at me. I didn't know it would do that.
I use MalwareBytes but I also use other free tools like Adlice's RogueKiller. MalwareBytes isn't an anti-virus on its own. It can help but I wouldn't use it for an antivirus. Use enough tools and reinstalling Windows is completely unnecessary. I always mock "reinstallers" who like to practice reformatting and all that jazz.
Just saying Opera isn't Malware. It is a gaming browser for people with a terrible computer, and you can limit the Memory, Internet usage, and CPU usage.
This is clickbait fr, my friend got 16000+ viruses somehow, don't ask how cause even I don't know and thanks to it, somehow his administrator permissions are removed so he cant access/change certain files or open certain things, along with that he can't even factory reset cause the viruses messed that up too, it deleted the RE Image or something, good video tho!

i had a virus which made every usb flash drive i plug in shortcuts and also keeps changing my quick access tabs and preventing me from unhiding os files. had to do reinstall because svchost got detected and after that it was unbootable (from june)

should have just consulted user on what they wish to keep, then made list. boot linux immedately and copied user profile folder to usb stick along with any other bits the user specificly desired. wipe hardrive and completely reinstall windows.

ahahahaah, I hook up HDDs and lay them down inside my PC just like that when I'm working on something. I own a really small computer company, and nobody has brought me any virus problems. Virus and Malware is kinda nonexistent as far as I`ve seen.

World of tanks is not gaijin, this happens to more games, some malware download fake version of the Launcher and infect ur pc, some download actual but still infect ur pc.

Hiding hidden data isnt hard, you can make it hard to FIND. You can even write to disk and remove the name, you can write directly to anyplace you want on that disk, the end sections are the best. If you created buffers on the HD, Blank locations to separate sections, Scan and turn all to 0' Unless they are for use BY UEFI.

I can also recommend Arconis True Image for disk cloning. I cloned my 1TB worth of data over to a 2TB drive and extended the partitions on it with True Image.

Reminded me how we fixed my broken old laptop which I used when I was 10 years old. I used Dr. Web+MalwareBytes+Hitman Pro In total at fast scan I got 457 viruses, at full scans I got 1.204 which includes: •Trojan •Infected archive •Backdoor •Worm •Botnet •Miner •RAT And still it lags I think it won't come back to normal just because I didn't scanned it for 3 years (except for that scans and last week scan) Even after reinstalling Windows CPU usage often goes to 80% on desktop, I installed Norton 360 and after 5 mins on BLANK Windows I got Mystic.Suspicious And I think there's still viruses on that PC. Now I use Virustotal, (I forgot its name it's same as Anyrun), using antivirus and having folder with 3 scanners. Moral of story: Don't use Torrents, scan your fucking files and don't click at random links.

Bluestacks isn't actually a malware, it is a Mobile App Emulator.
Imagine in 2022: Instead of putting quality commentary to keep the viewer engaged on what would be a good video, the content creator just puts some extremely shitty music and some fucking text to read that I cannot be fucked reading.
I recommend using CloneZilla for the next time. It's a FOSS tool which can be flashed onto a USB flash drive instead of having to boot up a Windows install to run.

My issue is how to restore the old bios on an old emachines desktop, with an Asus a7v400-mx motherboard. I have a floppy disk loaded with the original bios, as well as the bios flashing program.
I can't get past post as another bios popped up and won't allow me to continue.

0 likesThis is only a problem, if any hooks it used were not removed. There are a handful of registry keys, malware can hide in. if you only delete the file and forget to delete that key, you will basically leave the door open.

0 likes@@XRADOFFICIAL While this is true, in most cases a format will do the job. For simplicity let's say during a fresh install you perform a quick format. All this does is removes the headers and marks them as free space. When in this state the virus cannot be ran. Unless a new pointer is made. Even then has a large chance of being corrupted and not being to run correctly. A simple fragment of a virus left over on a sector will not harm anything because it is already corrupted. Also when an item is in the recycle bin it is not normally accessible.

5 likesWith such an infected computer, a simple removal can not always help in particular that the viruses will be on the disk in a hidden trash can or there will be remnants in free sectors on the disk (free space) Then you have to permanently delete the file (Shift+Delete) instead of deleting (delete).You should still remove the free space, and when changing the system wipe the disk.

Clicking links in emails, clicking yes to every UAC prompt, or oftentimes disabling UAC altogether, downloading supposed "antivirus" which was usually packaged with other pup's and act as a vector for other pup's to self-install. Pretty typical stuff really and no amount of explanation as to why these are bad practices ever helps, because even people in their 20's will just forget it, or not care at all in the first place, at least not until they install a crypto miner or ransomware and the machine becomes unusable. Then it becomes the tech's fault for not fully explaining the dangers associated with being a nitwit, and downloading shady crap. Rant over lol.

Usually pups end up on a computer by someone who doesn't understand the risks of the internet and simply launches everything they download, even more so people who click on bad ads or follow ads from other ads and allow them access to the browser, etc. Practically everything bad you don't want on a PC comes from people clicking on garbage while browsing the internet.
0 likesI suggest staying only on safe sites, using something like malwarebytes, installing something like uBlock origin to protect you and remove unwanted ads, and running all executables from places they could've been laced with malware through at least two different, good malware scanners. Combine this with scheduled back-ups and malware checks and you'll be good to go. Also only accept necessary or no cookies in most of cases.

I worked at a IT company and one standard everyday job was cleaning the pc's of coworkers. On average there was 52 payloads found a day on 1 pc. Sometimes a MITB ( man in the browser ). They really should install a firewall or managed policy rules.

the last bios "infector" in my memory was CIH
1 likewhich bricked the entire computer with its payload of just writing random bytes into the bios chip
as far as i know, no malware that's currently out goes anywhere near firmware. the closest things to that are various backdoors found in manufacturers' firmware for unknown purposes

Doubt it, those are called worms, and typically they would exploit a vulnerability in network protocols, considering this is a bunch of old malware and without internet and updates from c2, probability of spreading is very low.

I like trying to fix every issue possible without having to reinstall Windows all over (and possibly deal with backing up a ton of shit). And it honestly feels rewarding when you see the result.. Great vid!
30 likesYeah, even if you removed all surface malware, you would probably still have concerns about deep-rooted malware on the HDD. I would just say "forget it" and do a fresh reinstall of Windows. It seems to be the best option.

-throwaway pendrive: you can invest little money to get a pendrive with mechanical switch that put pendrive in read mode only. I use one of this all the time as i work as IT technical repairing at local computer store.
-for uninstalling programs i recommend revo uninstaller - free tool which allows to select multiple programs and uninstall them + after uninstall it scans for leftover files and registry from app so its more deep cleanup after reinstall
my top infected computer i had from customer had 27000+ threats found in malwarebytes (some were ofc from same malware as malwarebytes count every file and registry as new threat)

0 likesWith a single infection, it's fairly safe to assume you can fix it. You will need to research the virus to figure out exactly how it works, but it's possible to fully scrub a machine of it.
0 likesWhen you install over six THOUSAND viruses from random sources, that becomes significantly harder and exponentially more time consuming. You go from a task that'll take a day or two to something that'll take a lifetime or two.
Malwarebytes and Tdsskiller do most of the heavy lifting.. but in cases like this I would absolutely suggest a 100% clean wipe (after backing up anything worth saving, of course)

You did a good job of returning back to its original state but if it were me, I would get put a Windows 11 or 10 iso on an USB and do a complete format and reinstall windows. Never know if there is hidden stuff or if the malware infected critical system files that if the antivirus removes it'll bork something, had it happen before.

6 likesI'm a sysadmin, and I definitely take reimaging for granted. Malware? Reimage. Broken updates? Reimage. BSOD? Reimage. It saves a lot of time on needless troubleshooting when you can just get the PC back to a known working and stable build in less than an hour.

I used to have one of them on my old PC simply because the name is so tricky! I used to think that they are here mainly to protect my computer. Which a lot of them did actually scanned and removed viruses for me. But now, as I learn more I realized that their most important job is actually destroying the system!!! 17 likesFrom the moment where I could see my desktop to the moment where trash-ware started popping up, I had a little window of time to quickly boot task manager and end unnecessary tasks. Once I did it, I had some breathing room and finally could start removing some programs.
After the removal and the process of resetting my PC, checking the task manager for garbage and deleting the related programs over and over again, I have installed temporarily some antiviruses and turned on windows defender (didn't even realise I had it off).
After my hard work, antiviruses job and windows defender magic, I was left with a clean PC that now has no signs of any malware or other stuff (I have deleted the antivirus I have downloaded because it was Avast and I don't like it)
The PC was left with an annoying scar though - every time I boot my PC, shortly after logging in I am greeted with a PowerShell command window (which is empty). It just appears, chills for about a second and leaves. It appears every time I boot my PC and only once. From the time I turn my PC on to the time I turn it off.
Any suggestions or explanations?

I use Macrium Reflect as well. It takes a while but you have a complete clone of your hard drive

0 likesDuring the scan I expected around 5000 infections. I was off as well. I repaired a laptop in 2010 with malwarebytes. The laptop so was so infected that any task would require going to do another task to kill time. Go make a sandwich, get something to drink, etc. I found little over 5000 infections when I scanned. Took about an hour of time to scan, remove and remove installations of programs. PC was running like knew when I finished. Best $50 I got for 2 hours of work. I am commenting because many many people frown on Malwarebytes. I tell them often. It is the BEST free anti-virus and can save your PC. I do not trust anything else except ADW Cleaner.

1 likeBut I call BS about how Linux (as a whole) is uneccesary, mainly because in so many comparisons (including mine), Windows has used up far more system resources just sitting on the desktop by itself (no user-added programs or OEM stuff) than my current Fedora 37 setup, which even with at least 4 not-so-open-source background programs (i.e. Discord, Steam...), still uses <2 GB of RAM at idle.

Formatting the drives is safer because some malware could be deeper rooted into the system even if you uninstalled everything.

In total at fast scan I got 457 viruses, at full scans I got 1.204 which includes:
•Trojan
•Infected archive
•Backdoor
•Worm
•Botnet
•Miner
•RAT
And still it lags I think it won't come back to normal just because I didn't scanned it for 3 years (except for that scans and last week scan)
Even after reinstalling Windows CPU usage often goes to 80% on desktop, I installed Norton 360 and after 5 mins on BLANK Windows I got
Mystic.Suspicious
And I think there's still viruses on that PC.
Now I use Virustotal, (I forgot its name it's same as Anyrun), using antivirus and having folder with 3 scanners.
Moral of story:
Don't use Torrents, scan your fucking files and don't click at random links.
Although practically every downloaded app on this PC was a threat, there are a couple that aren't:
