Don't sell yourself short.  You did a beautiful job with this song.  You don't have Carrie's voice.  Guess what?  Very few people do and you aren't gong to end up on the West End.  So what?  Bet that isn't a surprise.  However, you have something else that is very important.  You have style and the ability to interpret a song and that is a talent that so few have or will ever develop.  When you sing it is so much more than hitting the right notes.  You sing with feeling and emotion.  Don't apologize for what you can't do.  You don't need to compare yourself to anyone else.  Be proud.  Be yourself.  Build on your strengths.  They are impressive.  Above all, believe in yourself.  I'm looking forward to your next song.

I don't know if it's within your vocal range, but you should totally sing In My Life! I'm Les Mis trash (it's kind of all I do with my time), and I think you would make a brilliant Cosette. She's such an underrated character, especially in the musical. In the YouTuber cast of Les Mis that I have in my head because I can, you're Cosette. You've got the sweetness that Cosette has, but you aren't going to put up with anyone's shit.

Musical theatre isn't just one style; there is no such thing as a "musical theatre voice"! There is no one, set type of voice you have to have. Musicals can be jazzy, classical and ballad-y, operatic, rock, gospel, or contemporary!
I think you're thinking of those powerful, belt-y, middle-range (mezzo-sopranos, if you're familiar with the term) kind of voices. While they are great, they're only a portion of all the voices in musical theatre, and certainly not a requirement. I don't have one, and I think I'm doing alright: I can still sing plenty of wonderful songs. :)
Regardless, I adore your take on this. What truly makes performances memorable is the singer's own, different interpretation of the piece, and this cover is definitely that. You communicate the emotion(s) of the song clearly and genuinely. Excellent job. xoxo

I'm saddened reading your description, and you saying you don't have the right voice! On My Own was originally written to be a pop song, so it should suit a 'pop' voice, and also, I know you think your voice isn't strong and belty, but that's okay. I feel like it's improving in strength and has been for a while. Don't forget a lot of singers find it hard to create the softness you can, it's not all about belting, you have a talent and a voice many are jealous of. I wish you were as confident in your abilities as you deserve to be! :)

I also love Les Mis... Having seen it performed by three different broadway casts I think your version is singularly moving and talented. You're right that it lacks the powerful belting of stage actors but it makes up for that easily with perfect timing and an outpouring of emotion!

I find this to be one of the most emotional songs ever. Maybe it's because when I was I performed this song when I was around 5 years old, my dad played the piano behind me. A year later, he decided to leave our family, and stopped living with us. I guess it's sort of ironic...because all these lyrics apply, because now I have to be tough without him here with me.

I was in a production of Les Miz 4 years ago, which ran for 10 nights in total and took 6 months of non-stop preparation, and the experience nearly killed me. It was the most physically demanding; emotionally battering experience of my life so far which reduced me to a sub-human wreck by the end of it. I actually went on stage drunk for about 4 of the performances in total...
I've refused all offers of reunion shows; disassociated myself from the theater; cut ties with the majority of the cast members and have flatly refused to even watch the film. I checked out this video with much trepidation, because now whenever I hear a Les Miz song, either cast recording or a cover, all it usually does is just remind me of that horrible time.

But I really liked that. That was lovely :) xx

I would just like to say that while, no, you are not Carrie Hope Fletcher, that doesn't mean your voice is not suited for theatre. Your voice is just as lovely as Carrie's, and while hers is more theatre-y, that doesn't mean you can't do theatre! No, you didn't belt in this or anything, but you sang it wonderfully, and that's all you really need to sound good(for theatre in general, not, like, the west end. And yes, it's true that someone with a not-theatre voice is less likely to be cast, but I'm talking about how good you are in a role, not how likely you are to be in a role). I said earlier that I'd love to see you as Cosette, and that's still true. But I really do think you would make a brilliant Eponine, and that's not something I say much. I don't think her personality matches yours in any way (trust me, that's a good thing), but I do think you would be willing to delve into the character, and really give her the depth she needs. That's true for Cosette as well! I'm a massive Les Mis fan, and, admittedly, a bit of a Les Mis snob, and I would really love to see you in any role (but especially Cosette! No one gives her the love she deserves! Cosette is my brilliant, curious, strong lil bby and I love her!).

By the way, since you said you love the musical a lot, you should read the book! Especially if you like Eponine. The musical did butcher her character a little bit, so while she's interesting in the musical, she's much better in the book. Seriously, 10/10, would recommend.

Your voice is beautiful, and I agree that your not quite a west-end singer, but your so close! I did notice that in the beginning of the song you left space between when you were meant to sing, and this meant your words felt slightly rushed, so maybe try to spread your words out a bit. Nevertheless it was absolutely beautiful and I know how hard it is to try and sing while playing piano, and you did a great job!

I must admit I am not a huge fan of Les Mis, but your voice really captivated me and it was nice to hear a softer version of this song. Also I am envious of your musical skills! I taught myself how to play the ukulele most recently, and can sorta play the piano :) My favourites songs to play are "Romantic Flight" (httyd) and "Victors Piano Solo" (corpse bride), You inspire me a lot! :D

I relate to this song so much, Eponine and I are like the same person (except she is way prettier of course) XP I am hopelessly in love with my best friend, but he has even asked me for advice about his relationships... It would have been so easy to screw things up, but I would never even think of doing that to him. I have to watch him and his girlfriend together everyday, wishing I could be in her place. I love him so much it hurts, but I'll always end up not good enough, and ignored. This song is really emotional and difficult, you did a great job!
