Hell yeah! This is one of the best anime out there, excellent choice. Here's the deal with Brotherhood vs. just FMA (No spoilers, just talking about production):
Fullmetal Alchemist, the original anime adaptation, outpaced the manga still being written, so the anime writers had to scramble for their own ending. It is a very, very good show in its own right, which is why people often recommend watching it before FMA: Brotherhood, because after you've seen Brotherhood the original will be harder to appreciate. That's okay though, you do your thing. Brotherhood is a second adaptation that came later, after the manga was finished, and as far as I can tell is near universally considered superior even though the original already set a high bar. Both adaptations tell the same story in essence, but Brotherhood has faster pacing in the beginning to get through some of the more familiar parts of the story, it goes deeper into lore and explains things the original doesn't, and of course the endings diverge because Brotherhood follows the manga (and thus makes more sense and is more satisfying, because it's the ending the story was always meant to lead up to).
Disclaimer: I haven't read the manga. So if a manga reader needs to correct me on something, go ahead, but I have seen both anime and that's the situation as I understand it.
In the Fullmetal universe, anyone is able to perform alchemy, as long as they have an understanding of the molecular composition of what they are transmuting, kind of like Momo's quirk from MHA. But the show will go into greater detail on it in the coming episodes.
I love FMAB. Sticks with me far more than Full Metal Alchemist. I also highly recommend The Helpful Fox Senko-San, My Roommate Is A Cat and The Rise of the Shield Hero.
Came across your channel here YouTube when it was recommended to me and I'm so glad it was as I love your reactions. Keep up the great work!
This is the first show that you are reacting to that I haven't seen before or planned to watch with a friend, so we will be going through this one together. I have heard a lot of great things about this show. From what I hear, the writing and storytelling is excellent, which is backed by the concept of alchemy itself, and how it has a very specific set of rules on what it can and can't do, and is strongly consistent through the series.
Hope for Black Lagoon, its not an overloaded anime like many with weird faces and stuff, just a kinda realistic good anime with great characters and badass scenes
wow that's new. Also, I need to go to work in 8 hours and get some sleep before it... But screw it! PonyBro time! Edit: I also wanted to rewatch this stuff recently :D
My condolences sir. You have chosen an anime that will have you laughing, screaming and crying. You will get attached to characters, you will learn so much about science and alchemy. You will question human morals.
the thing is I like FMA 2003 much more. I liked the atmosphere, the strong points, not much action and humor, but because it is more justified, it always seems appropriate and great. When I watched the Brotherhood I threw it in the middle simply because I couldn't bear the way they didn't care about telling the beginning of the story and my favorite strong points in terms of production, because everywhere there should be funny-funny jokes like in "Soul Eater", everywhere the action should rush at an exhausting fast speed. and because of this, I didn't feel the characters again, I couldn't get into this new'ish story from the manga and it just hurt me to look at it. I understand that this adaptation is much closer to the original manga, but I have always believed that the manga suffers from the same problems, and that the original 2003 adaptation did a very clever way by slowing down the speed and giving many moments to breathe in the new interpretation. In this version, I just could not stand how stupidly the death of some characters was staged and directed... I believe that manga has its own pace of telling a story and that it does not fit well with anime, which tries to do everything word for word... but that's just my opinion and I'm just sad that the original adaptation was missed and forgotten AGAIN, because everyone recommendsBrotherhood...
Sorry for write all this. It's good that people love stuff, everyone has their own opinion, but I would still recommend watching the beginning of this story in FMA 2003, and when the story moves away from the manga, switch to the Brotherhood. This way it will feel stronger and better, in my opinion.
@@ponybroiguess384 As I said, it's okay, man. No need to apologize. I have been watching your reaction from the very beginning, from MLP, and I have nothing against your choices, I'm simply sad by the fact that everyone prefers the Brotherhood. Since you haven't seen the original 2003 and started watching the new series right away, I hope you enjoy it without any of my problems with the series. But just for fun if you want to - compare how some of the strong and memorable scenes were filmed in the original adaptation. I hope you understand why I'm so bothered about this.
Thanks for your input, I know it isn’t the original series or anything. I’m just going off of what was recommended by a friend, I don’t mean to disrespect or step on anyone’s toes by doing this series.
I can’t stand how much the ‘03 series that I grew up with is constantly buried in a 12 foot deep grave by the Brotherhood community. The more these Brotherhood bandwagoners insist that ‘03 isn’t worth watching because it’s the popular thing to declare “Brotherhood is just better” the more the ‘03 series sinks further into obscurity and it drives me crazy. It’s unfair to FMA fans like me who want all of FMA to be recognized, appreciated, and loved. And to those who will inevitably bring up that Brotherhood is more manga accurate, let me remind you that Sailor Moon Crystal is more manga accurate than either version of the original Sailor Moon anime from the 90’s (DiC or Viz), and I don’t recall Crystal getting the decade long parade to the level that Brotherhood has received and continues to receive.
To be fair, brotherhood follows the manga were the original anime went in a different direction when it caught up to the manga and did its own thing. So it makes sense that reactors would go for brotherhood instead.
Probably the best shonen anime of all times, I'm so glad you are reacting to it

0 likesUrrrggghhh. And yet another reactor is bypassing the original anime of 2003 and falling for the sirens song of watching Brotherhood first.
