I ended up crying when the parents gave their reasonings. I'm surprise you didn't. Starlight's father wanted her to have a place to always feel safe and loved because he acknowledged that she's had a really hard time since youth forming relationships. Sunburst's mother watched her son fail at the one thing he was praised most for and never wanted him to feel like that again, so she decided to always form a plan for him so he didn't feel that same despair. They really love their children but just didn't know how to help.
If Sunburst ignoring all letters from Sire's Hollow is not a new development, that adds a whole new layer to Starlight's backstory. She probably did send letters to her only childhood friend after he went to Celestia's school, but he never replied.
Actually, it does hold water. Most likely Steller has visited him before. And Sunburst couldn't handle being nagged by her by mail as well. So hasn't read any mail from Sires Hollow since he left.
Nice theory, but doesn't hold water. Stellar Flare's stellar idea was to make sure he always had a plan AFTER he flunked out of magic school, so unless he flunked out really quickly, there's an important time gap there, and I doubt Starlight's room looked like that when she was in twin-tails backstory age. More likely, he moved away, and like most kids before email was a thing, she just didn't keep in touch.
Stellar Flare trying to create a friendship problem reminded me of Twilight in Lesson Zero (back when she had to send letters to Celestia about what friendship lessons she learned).
@@scootaloofromponyville1708 I said it might be the only magic school in Equestria, not that it definitely was.
As for your examples, Star Swirl taught Celestia and Luna back before he went to limbo, but we don't know what he's done since returning. Professor Flintheart was a character in a fictional novel set in the past. The school Mistmane attended existed over a thousand years ago, before the pillars' disappearance.
As for Twilight's school of friendship having a magic curriculum, I do not recall whether that had been established by this early point in season 8.
To summarize, I never said there could not be other magic schools in Equestria. I just did not know of any others that still existed in modern day Equestria that had been mentioned in the show.
18:37 those four ponies must be a reference to the fandom because we can see the problem. It is like the song in the. Credits of Equestria Girls The friendship Games.
Starlight and sunburst were standing too close to see the bigger picture but they were also standing too far away to the point it became burly

1:50 As a little note, there are areas that do tip mail carriers in America. Where I live, (my father's a mail carrier) he gets tips all the time! Just not money. At least in our area, mail carriers can't accept money, so they get tipped things like cookies, candy, even cans of soda. I even saw him get a giant rubber spider once as an inside joke. It just depends on where you live.
Agreed they both should be called "Librarian Duo" or something since both of them are into books and also be glad that Sunburst doesn't freak out like Twilight too lmao
This is such a nice episode. Its essentially Parental Glideance but better. That episode was amazing, but I had one issue with it. Rainbow's parents didn't learn a lesson. They didn't listen or have a proper talk with rainbow about the whole supportive thing, and rainbow didn't tell them after apologizing the issues that came with them being over supportive. The Parent Map however did just that. Both Starlight, Sunburst, and their parents learned the errors of their ways. And hearing Stellar Flare say the reason he is the way he is because he wants her to feel safe after what happened is just. Gets you teary eyed. Great down to earth episode.
You like Stellar Flare, I like Stellar Flare. You and I must be great minds, because we think alike. SHE is the big reason I keep coming back to this episode. Well, that, and just how hilarious the interactions with Starlight and her dad are.
I learned about this and just can't not talk about it now when I see it:
"Great minds think alike" is only half of the saying, and by cutting it in half it completely flips the meaning of it. Similar to how "one rotten apple" is supposed to be a relief, something that can be rooted out, when "one rotten apple *spoils the bunch*". The full saying is "great minds think alike, but fools seldom differ". Thinking the same thing as somebody else isn't to either of your merit or demerit, it just means you agree and may be similar.
Not to detract from your comment though, it's just that these half-sayings get used a lot and have kinda lost their meaning.
It’s was cool to see Starlight’s dad and Sunburst’s mom in this episode. Though I often wonder where their (Starlight’s) mother and (Sunburst’s) father are?
Also You know that Starlight comic about her origins and childhood? Dunno if the two could be put together into one Cohesive theory... but from it: he couldn't actually been abusive or neglectful towards her as a child, then, and wants to make up for it now. And her mom dieing could've pushed him more into this mindset, him trying to make up for BOTH of their absences in her life. All of it still clinging to things he can't just keep or change from the past
Based on the mom and dad's problems and attachments, I'd like to think that Stellar Flare and Sunburst's dad are divorced and Starlight's mom passed away. (she could also be divorced, and he dead etc. but still.)
Like, Firelight clinging to the past not because of the disagreement but of something he really cannot control. And Stellar Flare clinging to the future because maybe if she knew that it would've happened it could've been mended and fixed beforehand, but right now can't be...
Starlights mother could be dead. Would really explain her attachment to Sunburst.
My theory is that Firelight grew distant as a result of her death when Starlight was little , leaving her with nobody to be there for her, until Sunburst made friends with her and became something like a security blanket for her.
And explains why Firelights treats her like a foal when shes older. Trying to make up for not being there when she needed him most.
