3rd year of college I got a loft bed for my apartment, it was awesome, I loved it so much. I remember building that thing though, holy crap it was horrible, it was funny I totally had all the same anxiety during building except I built mine alone! such a bad idea! with my tv on the ground, took like the whole day balancing and lifting things and connecting the pieces!

I had the same loft bed for years! Oh my god, I loved it, but there was a certain period of my life where I had to get out of bed at 530am EVERY morning and it was SO DIFFICULT to get out of it when my mind was so groggy and bleh. (Yup great explanation there) now, I've modified it so that it's the same bed, but I drilled holes so the bed can be put in lower, which was really hard but pretty cool to do by myself (I'm 13)

I used to have a loft bed as a teenager and it was so fun and magical, but then I moved out and my flat is on the top floor, all the ceilings are slanted, so now I gotta sleep on a normal bed. The only downside to having a loft bed was that my dog couldn't just jump up and cuddle with me, which was sad. My cats managed fine, I will never understand how they manage to jump as high as they do.

better than what happened with my bed...I broke my toe because a metal piece decided it would be a great time to not work and squish my toe and now my bed takes up 85% of my room and I can barly access my chest of draws...eh but my mattress is comfy

I have the same bed as you (except mine is black because I embrace the darkness) and I have some tips, assuming you've never had a loft bed before.

Okay first off, GET EVERYTHING YOU NEED BEFORE YOU GO UP THERE FOR THE NIGHT because if you don't you'll have to keep going up and down that goddamn ladder and I swear to god your knees will hurt for days.

I however, still fail to do this because I'm soop doop forgetful. So, assuming you do too, my second tip is to show off those muscly knees you now have. (kidding, I lack muscle completely).

You should also install some kinda shelf thing next to the top so you can put drinks and stuff up there.

Also, no one can see you up there so sleeping naked is great.

I like how hazel is like the disorganised mum, Dan is like the dad and then Dodie is the kid

lololol they ARE so much fun. i used to have one as a kid, but it had an attached desk and a dresser that went with it. the ladder was too steep for my liking so i always used the desk to climb down, instead. and i frequently played under the bed itself bc it was pretty secluded. [thumbs up] an excellent investment. just don't let it collapse. lol

I have had a loft bed for three years and the climbing is awful because there's a ceiling fan directly above my ladder. Sometimes I shimmer under it while it's going like a fearful caterpillar.

Nice one Dodie and Dan. Three points of advice:

1. Put some diagonal cross-braces on it or it'll be wobby as hell.
2. If it's still wobbly, screw it to the wall (assuming you're allowed to).
3. If you're going to share it with anyone, you'll need a couple of crash helmets ;-)

(Having built a loft bed for a young lady before now, I can confirm that point 3 is a real issue, or rather her boyfriend could...)
