[PMV] The Dive Game

man, I remember mlp used to literally b everything to me... I used to idolize the creator of it and I used to buy collectors items and I remember it was the thing! I mean freaking brony con and everything too! now everyone has sailed away from that... god, I miss it. I can't bring back that feeling anymore... it's gone, just like that. anyone else??? I mean acleps hasn't done anything in a year!

I initially thought it was! I love this style of animation. I see little gifsets of these animations on Tumblr all the time, and seeing them all come together into something like this is pretty special! :D

It's pretty simple: in AE you can turn layers into 3D layers. When you do so, you'll be able to tweak all the properties of an object in 3 dimensions. You'll also be able to create a camera, which you can use to move the PoV in all 3 dimensions as well

Yup! The meetup was the first place where this was ever shown publicly, and apparently people liked it. I might try to get another PMV finished for the next meetup as well!

Everytime I watch this video it reminds me of when I used to spend hours just searching for pony videos and pictures, especially of Rainbow Dash, and it reminds me of the extreme love I have for her.
RD is best pony and 20% cooler than all the others.

Aun me acuerdo que este fue el primer pmv que vi, a diferencia de otros pmvs este me llamaba mucho la atencion y me gustaba mucho mas que los que hacian otros canales donde los pmv eran solo un copia y pega de fragmentos de capitulos y musica y con filtros.

I'm so grateful that someone was able to make a PMV of this song. Just downloaded it a few month ago and I instantly thought that this would make a badass PMV. Needless to say, you far surpassed my expectations and made it for Dash, which automatically made it 20% cooler. Awesome job on it!

As an animation, this was absolutely mind blowing, like seriously, this is the best thing I've seen come out of After Effects since Артём Прусаков's Boo Hoo PMV. As a PMV... good. I felt it could have been more to match up with the music in places, but it still fits most of the time.

It was a simple solid layer, with the effects "Stroke" applied to it. Then, an animated mask was made to that layer, making it move as it does.

I keep returning to this everyday, I am that entranced by it. Some of the effects in there I have no idea of where to begin create it. Is it possible that you could release the After Effects file of the PMV?

You and some other PMV artists should do a collaboration project, like what The Collaboratory did with All this Time. Though this time, do... Uh... Disconnected by Pegboard Nerds.

I ended up watching it, and I had actually seen it, I didn't remember it being named that though.... But I didn't use any pre-made animations (except for the stuff from the actual show), but I did take a bunch of inspiration from that kind of motion graphic animation.

They're mostly made with AE's shape tool, which basically creates masks which have a fill inside them, and includes a bunch of settings to tweak. Some of the layers were just PNGs masked, but if I can create something easily in AE, I prefer to do so and stay away from PNGs and masking them. Th black stripes are made with the Stroke effect, and the particles that burst out at the same time are made with Particular

If I'd have to draw them frame by frame, I probably wouldn't have enough patience to complete these :P . I basically use shapes, clips of video, solids, and those kinds of stuff, and animate their position, rotation, scale etc.. That way the single frames will be calculated by After Effects, but I still get to control everything if I want to.

This video would also fit under the category of motion graphics, but then again, motion graphics don't always have ponies in them... I guess this doesn't really fit into a single category.

Maybe start off with any basics that aren't easily found with google search (I assume that is a short list), while listing any useful tutorial sites if you have them on hand just to get that out of the way. I think most of the interest is in the more complicated stuff and should be your main focus. Save yourself some time by building on the shoulders of giants.

Great PMV, I can see where you wanted to go with this, kind of disappointing that you couldn't do everything. It (obviously) wasn't flawless, one or two bad transitions. also 0:47-0:49, animation seemed a little too forced, then again it could've been because of time constraints and you weren't able to smooth it out, and other little things, overall very well done though, hopefully your next one will allow you to work longer on it for an even greater result.

I like how Feedsy brought forth a new era in PMV making that would last for months with no sign of coming to an end yet. :)

Without Feedsy I would have never considered working so hard on single videos like this, but now I think it has definitely been worth it. I've learned a lot, and keep on learning new stuff as I make these things :3
