The English language you hear in the show is just a dubbing made by those Canadian voice actresses you probably know. They dub the episodes in English so that Humans could understand. They also put some hardsubbed Indo-Arabic numerals and other Latin-looking fonts in place of our writing system, so that Human viewers understood our numbers when they show up on the screen. But there's a couple of occurrences of our actual writing systems in several episodes where they forgot to replace it. For example, in the book Twilight Sparkle reads in Season 1 premiere ("Predictions and Prophecies"), that short encyclopedic passage about Mare in the Moon. You can see Unicorn hieroglyphs there in that book, because Unicorns still use those symbols in their magic books. Pegasi have a similar set, only they replace the Star with the Sun, and the Moon with a rainy cloud, because those versions are more related to their life (they still mean the same things though). Earth Ponies had a similar alphabet too, but they use Fire and Water for the same two symbols. Also, each type of ponies have their own special symbol in this alphabet: Unicorns have a Horn, Pegasi have a Wing, and Earth Ponies have a Tree/Plant. Each of them with a special sound unique to their alphabet. The remaining symbols have pretty much the same sounds associated to them, except that Unicorns usually pronounce them as voiced, Pegasi as unvoiced, while Earth Ponies as aspirated voiced. I don't "claim" the language. But I must admit that I was working on recreating the language of Unicorns from scartch since the very first day I saw this little piece of hieroglyphs in Twilight's book, so everything I write here is kinda my own invention. The inscription in Twilight's book is most likely some random gibberish without any meaning, but in that case I wanted to give it meaning by creating a language in such a way that this sequence of characters would mean precisely what Twilight read. Or, if that would be impossible, then at least to create a constructed language from scratch, so that MLP fans could have their own language, as the Trekkies have their Klingon, and GoT fans have Dothraki (unfortunately, both ot fhese languages are claimed by corporations, because fans didn't create them from scratch :q ). It might be just a coincidence, because I doubt the creators of the show visit obscure conlang forums, but if it is, then it is helluva lot of a coincidence :P So I adapted the name to just "Old Ponish" and moved on, because what else could I do?... :q As for the rest of your first question: yes, I like conlanging, I like learning natural languages, and I like learning stuff in general. I make a lot of use of the grey matter I have got between my ears, coming up with all sorts of interesting stuff pretty often. The Unicorn language is one of them. And I have already developed quite a lot of its elements. I have the alphabet (print form and hoof-written form), mostly settled down phonetics (still experimenting with phonotactics and syllable structure, though), personal pronouns, words for family relations, and the logical structure for names of colours, names of months and times of day, and numbers, but still working on actual representations of those words, because they are based on roots that are still not settled down, because they have to agree with other words that derive from them, and make sense phonetically so that they could be spoken by people. It's an interesting system in which every letter has a meaning on its own, and the meanings of words come from the meanings of its constituent letters ;) Kinda like ancient Semitic languages or Chinese ideograms.

But this switching to French was just to express the idea of "speaking an unknown language", and not just some random gibberish, but an actual spoken language, just foreign to ponies. Well, maybe except the fact that it was quite easy to express it symbolically with a white lilly as her cutie mark ;) which might be harder for other languages.
Bon Bon By saying "your own" language, I meant that you knew the language enough for it to be spoken, written, etc. (i.e. English would be "my" language). Also, I have seen some YouTube channels bearing names of historical figures and fictional characters and the people who operate these channels do not roleplay, so it is difficult tell apart roleplayers and non-roleplayers if they both take on the names of these individuals.
In addition, I see a lot of users named "Adolf Hitler" and "Joseph Stalin", so does this mean I should beware these people?

1 likeNo. I'm just a fan who roleplays Bon Bon on YouTube to confuse Google bots (and sometimes people, apparently :q ). I don't "claim" the language. But I must admit that I was working on recreating the language of Unicorns from scartch since the very first day I saw this little piece of hieroglyphs in Twilight's book, so everything I write here is kinda my own invention. The inscription in Twilight's book is most likely some random gibberish without any meaning, but in that case I wanted to give it meaning by creating a language in such a way that this sequence of characters would mean precisely what Twilight read. Or, if that would be impossible, then at least to create a constructed language from scratch, so that MLP fans could have their own language, as the Trekkies have their Klingon, and GoT fans have Dothraki (unfortunately, both ot fhese languages are claimed by corporations, because fans didn't create them from scratch :q ).
It's kinda ironic that as soon as I come up with those three proto-languages for Common Equestrian and shared this information at one conlang forum, calling one of them Old Earth Ponish, a couple of weeks later an episode appeared with the name "Old Ponish" in it :P I was like: "WOOT?! How did they know?!!" It might be just a coincidence, because I doubt the creators of the show visit obscure conlang forums, but if it is, then it is helluva lot of a coincidence :P So I adapted the name to just "Old Ponish" and moved on, because what else could I do?... :q
As for the rest of your first question: yes, I like conlanging, I like learning natural languages, and I like learning stuff in general. I make a lot of use of the grey matter I have got between my ears, coming up with all sorts of interesting stuff pretty often. The Unicorn language is one of them. And I have already developed quite a lot of its elements. I have the alphabet (print form and hoof-written form), mostly settled down phonetics (still experimenting with phonotactics and syllable structure, though), personal pronouns, words for family relations, and the logical structure for names of colours, names of months and times of day, and numbers, but still working on actual representations of those words, because they are based on roots that are still not settled down, because they have to agree with other words that derive from them, and make sense phonetically so that they could be spoken by people. It's an interesting system in which every letter has a meaning on its own, and the meanings of words come from the meanings of its constituent letters ;) Kinda like ancient Semitic languages or Chinese ideograms.
2) She understood Twilight Sparkle's writing because she's been from Equestria too. She knew that writing system all well.
3) Because it was "fancy" for her, being a totally foreign language with totally diifferent phonetics. They use French in English version, and in pretty much every other language, except French :q because, you know, speaking French in French dub wouldn't be "fancy" at all, just usual talking :) So they replaced it with some Old French dialect there, which nowadays is not spoken in France anymore. But this switching to French was just to express the idea of "speaking an unknown language", and not just some random gibberish, but an actual spoken language, just foreign to ponies. It might as well be Saddle Arabian ;J There's nothing special about French in this case. Well, maybe except the fact that it was quite easy to express it symbolically with a white lilly as her cutie mark ;) which might be harder for other languages.
Bon Bon By saying "your own" language, I meant that you knew the language enough for it to be spoken, written, etc. (i.e. English would be "my" language). Also, I have seen some YouTube channels bearing names of historical figures and fictional characters and the people who operate these channels do not roleplay, so it is difficult tell apart roleplayers and non-roleplayers if they both take on the names of these individuals.
