10:44 Snails: "This is the School of Friendship. If you need ideas, you should ask your friends for help." I never thought I'd see an episode of My Little Pony where Snips and Snails were being more helpful than the main character.
Snails can self-levitate, which is an extremely tough thing that only the most powerful unicorns can do.
This means that Snails has enough raw power to be one of the top unicorns, and we're only saved from his takeover of Equestria by his negative intellect.
leopard NDf nah, I stay away from most of the fandom these days because I was tired of having all that negativity shoved down my throat. I stick around for positivity and having fun, not for nitpicking and drama. And it's not like there aren't episodes that I don't like, there are some I straight up can't watch, but I feel that my time is better spent doing just about anything but complaining about them at length. I might express my opinion if prompted, but that's about it.
@Broderick Siz yeah, its considered the worst episode of the season for the majority of fans. Look at other reactions to this episode and what fans said about this episode on sites.
Wait, you're telling me people don't like this? I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't think it's the best thing ever, not even best in season 9, but I don't feel like it's any worse than most episodes
Just started this episode, and I already don't understand Twilight's decision. Rainbow is the one that trained the greatest buckball team in Equestria, so it would make sense for her to train the new team. And cheerleading has ALWAYS been Pinkie's department. It's like Twilight was purposefully setting everyone up for failure.
Edit: just finished the episode, and I get where Twilight's coming from, but she literally gambled with her student's feelings and interests just to teach Rainbow a lesson she needed to learn. She's lucky it worked, bc otherwise she would have caused A LOT of damage. Like, can you imagine if her plan DIDN'T work? Just a bad idea all together.
Imagine that, snips making more sense than rainbow is saying sth... This episode is not good compared to almost every episode out there: on one side I get rainbow's behavior since she's being forced to do sth she clearly isn't into, but at the same time she acted so unreliably while throwing tantrums and being apathetic as a pony who is supposed to be responsible over the students under her care - it's frustrating and gives a lot of mixed feelings tbh. I also put partial blame on twilight for just dropping this on rainbow without any prior notice, because in this case it's REALLY not good
Rainbow Dash may have been an asshole here, but so many seem to forget that she made an even greater offense than that in this episode. She blindfolded teenage cheerleaders! And she didn't even tell them the safe word!
"What's up people. It's time for Season 9 Episode 15, '2, 4, 6, Greaaat.'" sneeze "Oh god, that made me sneeze." That about sums up most people's reaction to this episode.
If only Silverstream was part of this episode, as a cheer squad member. Though it’s understandable that she’d be too good in this situation, it still would have been great if she was involved.
Just like Non-Compete Clause, I liked and enjoyed this episode, which many people seemed to not. Also like Non-Compete Clause, it’s based almost entirely on the Young Six (or in this case, the half of them that had speaking roles - also, in this case, there were the lead dancers, Shimmy Shake and Lighthoof).
However, this episode was also stronger on two fronts - unlike with Applejack and Rainbow Dash fighting (which was grating by that point of the series), I feel Rainbow Dash was not out of character here - sure, she had some of her negative traits greatly exaggerated, but it was a believable role for her (even if it got a little grating towards the end). Also, Twilight’s role was much stronger - I liked how she started taking on that trait of Celestia, of being able to see what needed to be done (and what could), and then nudging the necessary ponies just a bit so they can figure things out, learn the lesson themselves.
@@Ellyrella They never made it clear whether Twilight's School of Friendship is more equivalent to a high school, or a college. Based on the fact that the Flimflam brothers named their rival institution "Friendship University", I would lean toward the latter.
@Josh Blackwell Well maybe but in my school I am cheeleader and if I remember corectly Rainbow said that nopony cares about chear squad and she went too far here.
@Icy The stuff below is a post I made in 2019 about this episode on 1 of the other reaction channels. So figured this would work as a response.
Im going to start off by saying Sorry for the wall of text. Im going to at least try to give an explanation for RD's actions in this episode (Or at least how i see things currently). We know from previous episodes that if RD isn't confident in something she will either barely try or not try at all. We also know that when there is something she cares about or has confidence in she will go above & beyond for it.
Hmmm i think the difference between her encouraging fluttershy in "Hurricane fluttershy" and Having fluttershy cheer for her in "Sonic Rainboom" back in seasons 1 - 2 & encouraging the cheer team in this episode is the level of Importance to RD as well as the importance of the cheer team in comparison to a sports team.
Like for getting the water up to cloudsdale to make winter in season 2's "Hurricane Fluttershy" was extremely important and did hinge on all the pegasi including fluttershy who she knew from the beginning would need extra encouragement to do anything related to the project since she had known fluttershy since childhood.
In season 1's "Sonic rainboom" RD needed the support because she was already nervous from the multiple failed rainboom attempts as well as the fact she might be possibly blow her 1 chance to get closer to her dream of being a wonderbolt (We know this because of what fluttershy says in the episode).
While in this episode rainbow believed the cheer squad (not the students) but the IDEA of the cheer squad wasn't nearly as important as the actual buckball team. And i know people are gonna say "she should have been loyal to the squad" but she had literally no reason to be loyal to the cheer squad at all but RD had plenty of reason to be loyal to the actual buckball team she would normally work with & knew how to coach. Yona, smolder, snips & ocellus had literally just joined while Shimmy shake & light hoof were more than likely the only members at the beginning since they were the lead cheerleaders.
As for her statement about the cheer squad "not being as important as the actual team" she was absolutely right factually. People care more about the Actual team playing the game than the cheerleaders that is a fact. It doesn't matter if its Football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, softball, lacrosse, Racing etc the people are there to see the actual team not the cheerleaders (Sure there are a few people there for the cheerleaders but sports are mainly about the team).
Overall Im not going to lie and say rainbow is completely in the right but im also not going to say she was completely in the wrong either. Was rainbow completely selfish? Not completely she did get them things they needed for cheering & did try to give them teachers who actually had the heart/cared for what they were doing but she did those things half heartedly (In reality she could have been a complete jerk refused to help the team with anything despite all the nagging they were giving her and went home until the buckball game).
Were the students & the rest of the mane 6 in character? Yes they were.
Was Rainbow dash in character? Yes but she just needed a push to actually care about something she wouldn't normally even think about since she is usually in the actual game or coaching the ponies to win it rather than be on the sidelines. I mean getting someone to care about something they normally wouldn't would be a challenge all by itself.
Does twilight share some of the blame in this episode? Yes, she could have given RD at least an idea of what to do for the cheer squad which would have certainly made her more confident in what she was doing & would have made her care a little more.
Could this episode have been worse? Yes it could have been a million times worse but it definitely could have been better.
p.s This is how im seeing things currently and my thoughts could very well change.
Actually I have no problem with that, this episode is another prove of how toxic Rainbow can be, I know that we were talking about it and you defended Rainbow pretty well, doesn't change the fact that she is toxic in this episode.
I don’t hate this episode, it’s just not a very strong one in my opinion. The way Rainbow was written was the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way because it’s not like her to not be the encouraging and motivating type (as was portrayed in episodes like “Hurricane Fluttershy” and “Rainbow Falls”). This episode is alright to me all in all.
I get that they want characters to have some sort of conflict and lesson to learn, but...did they have to write Dash as such a huge asshole for this episode? Wasn't she the same one who tried so hard to impress upon Fluttershy the importance of a good cheer way back in season one?
@Glauco GD Yakity Sax is the episode where Pinkie was depressed because she was not able to play this yaka thing? Ok that makes sense, this episode was pretty lame.
The episode isn't so bad, just not memorable for me, like The Cart Before The Ponies. The worst episode of the series for me is, and will always be, Yakity Sax!
This is my least favorite Rainbow Dash episode of all time. She would NEVER act like this. She KNOWS how important cheers are as evidenced in season 1 episode 16 Rainbow wanted Fluttershy to be her cheering squad. This is a major step backwards for Rainbow and it drives me nuts.
Great. This episode. My least favorite of the entire series. I'm not usually one to get picky about OOC stuff in the show, but this . . . Dashie's attitude in this just made me feel . .. icky, all the way through it, like I was physically uncomfortable the entire time. Still, I will stomach this, to see your reaction to the cheerleader pones. FOR THE FANSERVICE!
I didn't like this episode. Rainbow Dash is not great. I can't believe Snips is being the voice of reason. Rainbow Dash insulting the cheer squad is not great.
Cheerleader Ocellus is quite possibly the greatest (and most adorable) thing in the entire universe!
But yeah, as a hardcore Rainbow Dash fan, the rest of this episode is a steaming pile of sh*t. Probably the worst episode of season 9, in fact, and that’s saying something.
20:52 After how she acted throughout the episode and then saying that, I just wanna give rainbow dash the most loving way I can say “fuck you in the ass”
