Comics had better concepts than later season. Backstory of Sombra should had been a tv premise. Same with Discord's backstory about Cosmos, especially since Cosmos was the strongest MLP villain in G4 and they just made her a one shot villain in the comics.
The comic had a unique balance of comedy, drama and action. I also appreciate little things, like Chrysalis being better in the comics, she could be a goober or intimidating. Chrysalis's rivalry with Twilight was more pronounced than it was in the show, pre Starlight Glimmer era of course.
Given how the last 3 seasons were, the comics had better concepts and plots than the show did.
