Ed Snowden is overrated. People hail him as some sort of modern day superhero, but personally.. I think he just stumbled into that role accidentally and ran with it once he saw the reaction it got from (some) members of the public. Personally, I think he stole all that data for a number of reasons.. but honestly, I don't think he really had any idea what his goals were and once he realized the brevity of the situation he was in, and how some of the public were reacting to it, I think he grasped on for dear life and went with it. He was desperate for some sort of positive public response because he knew how F'd he was otherwise (and still is really).

@theespartan ff yes, partially that. Also if you fight against what is wrong you might make things a lot worse (in other areas) because you think what you're doing is right. Means to an end, lesser evil etc... If you want to improve something it is better to not think in terms of right or wrong, just see what kind of consequences specific actions yield and always be vigilant about your own actions, which is easier said than done.

@Austin yea but Lemmino puts out like 2 videos a year. We hardly ever get to see his stuff. There's also Chill Fuel and probably the MOST popular one, NEXPO but he doesn't put much stuff out either. Personally DISRUPT is my favourite!!

This stuff messed up. When our politicians do wrong, we applaud them on their "honesty" upon their apology. These people, the government of the United States, are citizens of this country. These deserve the same respect, but also the same punishments. They punish us when we speak out against their fragile money making scam. Our flag, is the flag of the people. Wave it proud and be ready to take action to make sure that flag remains the people's flag, and not that of borderline tyrants.

@wingsting 97 All is not lost; I live in Sweden, and here anyone can start a "party" and get voted in. The percentage of votes you get is the percentage of power you get when voting for different issues (3% and above). This has lead us to a TV channel called SVT, which is government funded television. It has a program on it called Uppdrag Granskning or Mission Investigate in English. This program exposes the government and big institutions/companies in Sweden.
TLDR; We have a government-exposure TV program funded by the government because of our government. All is not lost.
Disrupt, with Vsauce and Kurzgesagt are probably the biggest reason I've been learning a lot, and for why I started to be interested in knowing more. These 3 channels in a single year made me become what schools couldn't do in 12 years: a student
School made me hate learning, honestly. Channels like these made me love to learn new things and I couldn't be more appreciative. Literally changed my life.

I sub to Nicks channel so I know what he does and it's totally different from this style of content. Not even close to similar. Totally different category. For the record Nick is definitely not the best at all in my opinion. I can name 10 or 15 other channels that are better than him. He's good but not the best by any means and he hardly ever puts anything out. Every few months or so.

It’s more edited than a tv show. It’s most similar to (bad) tv commercials. Heavy graphics, dramatic all the way through (instead of only when trying to emphasize certain beats), rapid cuts, overreliance on stock footage, random text effects, unnecessary glitch & motion effects, etc. YouTube is successful bc it is not as produced as traditional media. This is MORE produced and comes across as a skill dump: “look at what I can do” with no regard for storytelling. They managed to make wikileaks boring, and make a 22 minute video feel like an hour.
Why YouTubers mimic a failing medium is beyond me, but they end up worse than the worst stuff on TV.
It tries to look expensive, but to anyone w experience, it looks cheap, and not in the comfy relatable way.

Youtube seems to have hidden this channel from me for a while now, kinda sucks so i wanna spread awareness for a few other channels i feel deserve it! "Ordinary Things" has some great and well thought out content, usually with light banter and jokes around more serious and non serious topics. Otherwise, "Kurzgesagt's in a nutshell" has EXCELLENT animated content about surroundings topics and questions of science. "Qxir" is a lovely youtuber I binge who tells crazy stories from around the world, really well might I add. Otherwise "Melodysheep" has great documentaries, amazing visuals, and other short fun videos to watch. Thanks yall have a good day ❤️

I love your content, and I love how you put stories. Having multiple stories that lead to one topic makes it very hard to someone to pinpoint this video and have it be thrown in the algorithm. It take communities from both communities, and brings them together in a safe nonviolent way.

@Jay Pow who knows, our new Prime Minister has already been working on in roads with Biden. I still hold out hope that we can see him home. The example that comes to mind is David Hicks, an Australian citizen that was picked up and shipped to guantanamo as a Taliban combatant. Under the conservative government that was in power when this happened, he was left to rot. When the Labor government took power, they brought him home. Not saying we can expect this, exactly, but there is a precedent for this kind of situation.
Nah British wouldnt hand it to Australia, they are more close to US , which they made backroom deals about British prisoner in US, and for the exchange they would hand Assange to US.

This country has problems, and while some say they provide a solution to those problems, there's a loud, obnoxious group of people that will deny it exists. I won't say that either side gets anything real done, because it's never anything but a "lesser of two evils" situation.
@jack.20f I’m mixed about that. I dislike taking guns away - but there are a lot of faults with keeping them. I think they should stay but we need to heavily improve how people get them, and where to draw the line.
@Morgan Null There are faults and risks with everything. I partly agree with making the system of acquisition more thorough but also don't on the principle of freedom. The people who have firearms and are allowed to carry them around (constitutional carry), will be able to stop people that are not mentally able to carry without going ape shit. That is at least if enough people in the area had guns or if we would stop designating places as "Gun Free Zones" or what I like to call them: Sitting Duck Zones
But I have another thought, what if we spent all that $40 billion dollars we gave to Ukraine to delay the inevitable on security for our schools? Or training for teachers/staff to carry? I think guns should be a bit more difficult to acquire because it feels strange walking into Walmart and being able to buy a frozen pizza and a firearm for little to nothing. I think they should stay specifically in gun stores - also as a side fact, did you know like 2/3 gun owners don’t go through background or mental checks. (This may have changed since I last looked.)
I think having a firearm is fine. After all, most are used for self defense. But it’s way too easy to get one without having anything about who you are checked out.

It feels strange being able to buy groceries and a gun at the same time but that sounds like freedom to me. The idea of thoroughly background checking people sounds good to me until I realize the people doing it would be the government. I don't trust the government as you can tell lol. And once I rule that out I remember my opinion that we should eliminate gun free zones and that would mean people would be there with guns to stop the perpetrator if they were to buy a gun and immediately start shooting.

There are TWO things incorrect in yiur statement. #1) YES civilians ARE inckuded and held under the stabdards of the Geneva Convention! #2) You don't need to be in the US to commit, be tried and convicted of treason, spying offenses, espionage etc. You can still be held accountable and prosecuted for many things even if you are not a US citizen or in the US when you commit such offenses. Another thing you are COMPLETELY missing the point on is I NEVER said it is/was illegal to publish/release said documents. Don't put words in my mouth. I've always been subbed to Disrupt, I enjoy the experiment videos a lot but never particularly cared for these long form videos as much since I preferred the more concise style of high end content like Barely Sociable or Lemmino, but GODDAMN, the PRODUCTION VALUE the STYLE holy SHIT

@Jack Fisher that's fair, I liked a lot of the stuff coming out of the site too. But if he really wants to believe that privacy is dead then he should've released more of what he received instead of just picking and choosing. There's hundreds of whistle-blowers within the US with actual first hand accounts and evidence on corruption but they get swept under the rug in a day compared to Assange. I'm probably just jaded about the way he's portrayed as a savior online. Good point though, I shouldn't argue too much, since I'm sure he exposed people the idea that there's more going on and to look out for themselves. I just don't like the echo chamber around him.

I hope he helped a lot of people broaden their minds a bit more, and his website helped me do that too so I shouldn't be too critical.
@Xg He was picking and choosing information to let out because after all, the only way to fight a narrative is to cut it off at the source, so he went after everyone who was picking sides and he fell into the same hole that the media does, he picked a side and lost to it
@Xg I've watched disrupt for a while and I'll agree that there's a trend with his videos where his points are hollow or analysis lacks depth at all, in favor of aweing the audience with stunning visual effects and transitions. By picking subjects whose stories write themselves it feels like an over glamoured reading of a biography/wikipedia page
@Xg i agree, this video was pretty empty and glossed over some extremely important details. what assange did was VERY fucking noteworthy--he was the first person to create a platform that would, in theory, protect whistleblowers from government retaliation (i.e. discredit or threaten or kill them into silence). I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that Assange is a useful puppet? To who?

I felt that when watching this video but couldn't quite put it into words as well as you have here. I was disappointed when he didn't go into what was actually in some of the major leaks more. Seems way more important and interesting then Julian himself who's been covered a thousand times over by now in other YouTube videos. I've always found his channel to be really strange. The visuals and production quality are really high, but the narration and storytelling on the other hand isn't of the same quality. Sometimes it seems like he's saying a bunch of words but they amount to nothing of actual substance. The visuals tend to be jarring and disrupt (no pun intended) the flow of information since they're scattered throughout the video in-between the narrating and sometimes don't seem to relate to the subject at all. In the end the information given about the subject matter is quite lack luster considering the length of the video. Honestly sometimes these videos feel like an art student fever dream.

I do know a lot of monetized YouTubers are afraid to say the word Nazi because of potential demonetization. I agree it is journalistically criminal to leave something like that out and made Julian look like that bad guy instead of the people he was outing.

I guess whether it's omission stemmed from an effort to avoid demonetization, or as a decision to subtly persuade viewers into questioning the reasoning behind Assange's actions doesn't really matter. the consequence is a failure to correctly portray the events in context. Kinda funny how this video is critical of Assange's narrative creation(selective drip re: DNC/Clinton emails) when it is actively engaged in the same, selective storytelling
@Patrick I guess it's pointless one way or another to wonder what his intentions behind excluding that key info was, we will never know for sure. You did a good job highlight how he was a hypocrite in doing the very thing he criticized Assange for. One good thing this video and it's comment section has done has made me more curious and interested in researching the contents of the actual leaks for myself. It seems it be very beneficial for the average person to educate themselves on all the corruption the powers at be engage in every day behind closed doors. I wish he used his platform here to go into detail about that, the more eyes and ears put on this stuff the better I think.

These videos are made so well. It’s truly impressive. And great touch taking regular stock footage and layering over the glitchy effects. The videos keep getting better than the last. This may be one of the best channels on all of YouTube in terms of production value, content, and the narrator’s friggin awesome voice
the moment that someone offers themselves to become an outlet for confidential information, they're at the same time volunteering themselves to become a propaganda outlet for an adversary that may not be any better than the object of the leaked information.
by being able to obtain more damming information and feeding it to a channel that is growing more and more in trustworthiness will have the side effect of implicitly campaigning for that other adversary. especially because that government funded supplier is able to obtain and provide "leaks" (hacks) at a much larger volume and pace than any actual hactivists / leakers that are trying to make the world a better place.

It distracts and takes away from the story. Also 90% of the animations made no sense. Is there a back story? is it an inside joke? I mean come on. To be clear, I don't like the BNP. However, it seems strange that Assange would think he is doing something amazing by exposing a list of people who for the most part are just nationalists who want very strong borders and no immigration. They change the thumbnail and title to attract more viewers. Its proven to work in driving more traffic to the channel. The best thing you can do is look at the upload date.

This has very nice aesthetics, but it has almost no content. I already know much more than what's presented here. This video could have been one to two minutes long, and not over twenty-one minutes.
I liked the art style. Possibly my favorite youtube artists is 1au. 1au reaches the aesthetic peak that </disrupt> wishes they could obtain. I recognize the [adult swim] influence. 1au does it better.
This video has given me the most existential dread out of all the others that I've seen on your channel. I know that I don't know about significant issues plaguing the world hidden from the public, and I know that I don't know enough to take any action on these issues and have to trust others with their own vested interest to act on my behalf. The tension was strong throughout the video and I didn't feel that you were supporting or opposing his actions. Just a quality documentary for us to consume and move on from. That itself makes me not want to move on.
I know this might be heresy to say, but this editing is obnoxious and pretentious. So much extra fat and added tension where it’s not needed. It’s been getting worse and it detracts from topic itself imo.
Man this was like a documentary you can see only by paid version on netflix or apple + but its free here ofcourse because netflix or apple cant show real truth
hm, what if its not actually a philosophy but a mere fact? what if ur home was turned into a bunker, with surveillanced cameras, and people in there were tortureing u, exploiting u, using it against u and turned ur whole life around on the outside of that cell into a living nightmare? where the experience u go theough is as equal as ur outside and ur future career crumbles into a pile of nothing? its wuiet terrible to me when everything and everyone can be turned against u like that in just an instanse. and if u have people in ur life that u truly trust with ur life im truely genuinly lucky for u. and if not i hope u rethink about the severity of concequences this might have on u, aswell. cuz we all in this struggle together. thats just ugly and harsh facts.

I highly doubt he had any say in the making of this. Disrupt doesnt really comment as to whether what julian did is right or wrong. Assange is definitely an asshole but he did make an overall important contribution in terms of warning others to not trust the governments

🤔This is CLEARLY NOT a popular opinion on this subject but I'm gonna say it anyway🤤 . . . Journalism is not the issue here tho. It's the ILLEGAL access and dissemination of TOP SECRET and CLASSIFIED government documents. Laws were broken in the process of gathering them. It wasn't the fact that they were published. It was WHAT was published and HOW IT WAS GATHERED/COLLECTED. Journalism IS still safe (for the most part). I do NOT disagree that governments have A LOT to hide and SOME of that information WE THE PEOPLE should have access to but there are SOME things kept from the public for reasons of NATIONAL SECURITY and that's not just a term the govt hides behind. I think he just stumbled into that role accidentally and ran with it once he saw the reaction it got from (some) members of the public. Personally, I think he stole all that data for a number of reasons.. but honestly, I don't think he really had any idea what his goals were and once he realized the brevity of the situation he was in, and how some of the public were reacting to it, I think he grasped on for dear life and went with it. He was desperate for some sort of positive public response because he knew how F'd he was otherwise (and still is really).

Means to an end, lesser evil etc... If you want to improve something it is better to not think in terms of right or wrong, just see what kind of consequences specific actions yield and always be vigilant about your own actions, which is easier said than done.

The percentage of votes you get is the percentage of power you get when voting for different issues (3% and above). This has lead us to a TV channel called SVT, which is government funded television. It has a program on it called Uppdrag Granskning or Mission Investigate in English. This program exposes the government and big institutions/companies in Sweden.

Heavy graphics, dramatic all the way through (instead of only when trying to emphasize certain beats), rapid cuts, overreliance on stock footage, random text effects, unnecessary glitch & motion effects, etc. YouTube is successful bc it is not as produced as traditional media. This is MORE produced and comes across as a skill dump: “look at what I can do” with no regard for storytelling. They managed to make wikileaks boring, and make a 22 minute video feel like an hour.

"Ordinary Things" has some great and well thought out content, usually with light banter and jokes around more serious and non serious topics. Otherwise, "Kurzgesagt's in a nutshell" has EXCELLENT animated content about surroundings topics and questions of science. "Qxir" is a lovely youtuber I binge who tells crazy stories from around the world, really well might I add. Otherwise "Melodysheep" has great documentaries, amazing visuals, and other short fun videos to watch. Thanks yall have a good day ❤️

I think guns should be a bit more difficult to acquire because it feels strange walking into Walmart and being able to buy a frozen pizza and a firearm for little to nothing. I think they should stay specifically in gun stores - also as a side fact, did you know like 2/3 gun owners don’t go through background or mental checks. (This may have changed since I last looked.)

The Geneva convention doesn't apply to civilians, and Assange has never been in the US, so no, he's not a criminal.
Well, I'm not 100% sure he's never been to the US, but the acts he's accused for happened elsewhere. The entire world isn't US turf.

There are TWO things incorrect in yiur statement. #1) YES civilians ARE inckuded and held under the stabdards of the Geneva Convention! #2) You don't need to be in the US to commit, be tried and convicted of treason, spying offenses, espionage etc. You can still be held accountable and prosecuted for many things even if you are not a US citizen or in the US when you commit such offenses. Another thing you are COMPLETELY missing the point on is I NEVER said it is/was illegal to publish/release said documents. Don't put words in my mouth. It's the way in which he ACCESSED the documents. How do you not understand that? There's just no 2 ways about it!! He has those documents because he broke laws acquiring them!! It's very simple. Did Assange really do anything impressive? idk why so many youtube videos get made about this guy. It's weird how there's almost no real substantial information in this video either. Just the same hollow points about justice and freedom without doing research into what was leaked or why which is way more interesting and actually educational. Just the same story over and over, and everyone supports him because he uploaded some stolen files and was dumb enough to be a public persona? Snowden released some interesting stuff at least, but I get the impression Assange is just a useful puppet. This video was shallower than the Wikipedia page.

But if he really wants to believe that privacy is dead then he should've released more of what he received instead of just picking and choosing. There's hundreds of whistle-blowers within the US with actual first hand accounts and evidence on corruption but they get swept under the rug in a day compared to Assange. I'm probably just jaded about the way he's portrayed as a savior online. Good point though, I shouldn't argue too much, since I'm sure he exposed people the idea that there's more going on and to look out for themselves. I just don't like the echo chamber around him.

I hope he helped a lot of people broaden their minds a bit more, and his website helped me do that too so I shouldn't be too critical.

By picking subjects whose stories write themselves it feels like an over glamoured reading of a biography/wikipedia page
51 likes@Xg i agree, this video was pretty empty and glossed over some extremely important details. what assange did was VERY fucking noteworthy--he was the first person to create a platform that would, in theory, protect whistleblowers from government retaliation (i.e. discredit or threaten or kill them into silence). I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that Assange is a useful puppet? To who?

I felt that when watching this video but couldn't quite put it into words as well as you have here. I was disappointed when he didn't go into what was actually in some of the major leaks more. Seems way more important and interesting then Julian himself who's been covered a thousand times over by now in other YouTube videos. I've always found his channel to be really strange. The visuals and production quality are really high, but the narration and storytelling on the other hand isn't of the same quality. Sometimes it seems like he's saying a bunch of words but they amount to nothing of actual substance. The visuals tend to be jarring and disrupt (no pun intended) the flow of information since they're scattered throughout the video in-between the narrating and sometimes don't seem to relate to the subject at all. In the end the information given about the subject matter is quite lack luster considering the length of the video. Honestly sometimes these videos feel like an art student fever dream.

I do know a lot of monetized YouTubers are afraid to say the word Nazi because of potential demonetization. I agree it is journalistically criminal to leave something like that out and made Julian look like that bad guy instead of the people he was outing.

I guess whether it's omission stemmed from an effort to avoid demonetization, or as a decision to subtly persuade viewers into questioning the reasoning behind Assange's actions doesn't really matter. the consequence is a failure to correctly portray the events in context. Kinda funny how this video is critical of Assange's narrative creation(selective drip re: DNC/Clinton emails) when it is actively engaged in the same, selective storytelling

You did a good job highlight how he was a hypocrite in doing the very thing he criticized Assange for. One good thing this video and it's comment section has done has made me more curious and interested in researching the contents of the actual leaks for myself. It seems it be very beneficial for the average person to educate themselves on all the corruption the powers at be engage in every day behind closed doors. I wish he used his platform here to go into detail about that, the more eyes and ears put on this stuff the better I think.

this is exactly how Russia and U.S. Republican party used Assange.
Russians had no use in rescuing Assange. its likely that they were the ones that leaked the plans for his escape in the first place. the related negative publicity only strengthened their and Republican/Trumps image. playing in Russia hands by destabilizing America's politics with what really is merely business as usual across both parties.
and now he is conveniently thrown away once the deeds are done and there are no more "leaks" coming.
he should have set his ego aside and continued his work incognito. maybe that would have avoided him becoming a target from all sides for various purposes.

I know that I don't know about significant issues plaguing the world hidden from the public, and I know that I don't know enough to take any action on these issues and have to trust others with their own vested interest to act on my behalf. The tension was strong throughout the video and I didn't feel that you were supporting or opposing his actions. Just a quality documentary for us to consume and move on from. I do NOT disagree that governments have A LOT to hide and SOME of that information WE THE PEOPLE should have access to but there are SOME things kept from the public for reasons of NATIONAL SECURITY and that's not just a term the govt hides behind. It is very much needed in civilized societies but as I said before, SOME info they hide is info we should all be allowed to see/know about. The problem lies in the issue of WHO determines WHAT we have access to. Governments will ALWAYS ALWAYS have things that will be hidden from the general public
