I wish I could dance like you! (also I wish I had better posture)

Ok I know you won't see this but I really want Dodie to know that I'm crying right now because she's rekindled my love for dance and after 10 years I'm now restarting ballet. I quit when I was four after dancing for two years. I have done street and am now a gymnast but nothing can make me as happy as I remember feeling as an innocent four year old in a baby blue leotard. Thank you Dodie. You made me realise what I need to make me happy in my life. You're one of my idols, I have three. You, Dan and Phil. You make me happy when no one else can. Thank you so so much.

This video just reminds me of being in ballet lessons when I was about 7 or 8 and me and my friends in the class would just mess about and try to mimick what we saw the older dancers do in the studio and what we saw in movies. Before and after class my teacher would put soft music and we would just twirl around, lifting pointed feet, jumping around the room, slowly moving our arms up and down as we did plies and other (really basic) ballet moves. Thanks for the nostalgia trip Dodie, it was really nice xx.

I feel like this perfectly encompasses dance itself. It's more than just technique, flexibility and training. This conveys such emotion and peacefulness in dance. It's dancing for the joy of it, experienced or not. It reminds me of a child dancing, because they are doing it because it makes them happy and they don't worry about perfectly pointed toes and tucking everything in and spotting and mastered tricks.

its so beautiful to see the joy you find in dance.

I was a dancer for a good portion of my life. To combat my ADHD and depression in middle school, I went on some tablets that made me cause a lot of weight. I quit ballet because I hated my body and hated how my body effected my dancing. This video reminded me of why I loved to dance. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be raw, and for you to truly love what you're doing. Thank you for giving me a bit of nostalgia, and making my day.

and so forth!

omgosh yes please do some adult ballet lessons - especially beginner classes they are so soothing (and yes its still exercise and you will be exhausted at the end but that never hurt anyone). i went back to ballet classes as an adult instead of the more traditional gym/treadmill cycle and it was honestly the best thing ive done. so centering <3

Hi Dodie I know you probably won't see this but I wanted to compliment you on your dancing. I am a dancer and a dance teacher. When you said that you weren't a dancer I was quite surprised. You had your feet in the correct positions and spotted on your turns. Your pirouette was pretty good as well you also held yourself like a real ballerina. If I were you I'd find a studio and take some classes here and there you have a lot of grace. Ballet also helps with balance and it often helps me when I'm feeling anxious.

I'm with you. I wish there were more a mature adult dance classes. Ballet (I took it when I was 3 -10 and then my teacher retired), bellydance, poledance, waltz, swing, ballroom, etc. When my teacher retired I couldn't imagine another teacher, but I tried one from an entirely different place, but I didn't like it. And then in highschool I took dance club one year and behold! My formally retired dance teacher was back! This time for ballroom. She just died this year and it keeps hitting me that if I ever find another dance class it will never happen to be her teaching it. She was so strict, but not harsh, she was a really sweet lady despite how much she pushed us and I did and will miss her. You look so lovely! I find myself doing the five positions and using them to stretch now. Or I'll be in the kitchen waiting for the microwave or toaster and I'll start dancing. Keep dancing Dodie.

I did eight years of ballet, in a wonderful, very small, family-business dance school. Sadly my beloved teacher retired. Another one took over, younger, very nice, but the school was bought by a company that didn't care one bit about us, the school, or even the teacher who was their employee. After two years of the business not working as well as it used to, they shut it down, without any consideration for the work my former teacher had put into it or the sentimental bonds we had developped with it. They just shut it down without prior notice and without explanations. Now that was right before I left for college so it was ok, I couldn't have kept on going there anyway. Still hurt.

Now I'm in college and I don't have any time to go to a ballet class, and besides, there isn't any near me. My dorm room is way too small for me to dance in it. I'm also scared I wouldn't like any other school than the one I had throughout my teen years.

I miss it. I miss it so much, you have no idea. This video feels so bittersweet to me, because I miss this feeling of freedom when I used to dance. I miss this daintiness of ballet and the oh so delicate grace of being one with your body. I miss my bubble of joy.

Thank you Dodie for all these memories you're bringing back to me. Sometimes it feels good to be reminded of the things you're sad about: it makes you remember who you are.

You'll never know how much you mean to me. I started watching you around two years ago. Within that two years, I've struggled with eating disorders (I was bulimic for 3 months and anorexic for 2), self-harm (at least once a week for about 2 months while I was anorexic), serious bullying (which was what made me start all this) and depression. dodie you should absolutely go find a beginner adult ballet class!! as someone who has been dancing a long time i can say that your arms are already pretty good (not perfect obvs :P) but that's one of the hardest things to teach and you've already got a sense for it. plus you're musical and that always helps.
just google "beginner adult ballet london" and try some drop in classes to find a teacher you like. In my experience, the adult classes are a lot more chill because no one's trying to become professional anymore, mostly people are there just to exercise and have fun.
but you should really really try it!!

Okay so, this just became my aesthetic.

If you want to be a dancer, I'd strongly recommend looking for any adult ballet classes in your area! I can see a natural grace in your dancing, so maybe look into drop-in classes or something :) It's a fun way to get exercise, and I think it's also a way to become more in-tune with your body. Personally, I feel like I can gauge how my body will react to things because I've danced for so long. I don't know if that would help with your depersonalization, but dancing helps me feel more "in the moment"

This is quite a delicate look into well you; but I'm dying to know how many clips you actually took to make this.
I get told that I seem confident and brave a lot, when truth is what they see is maybe take 50 of something because I'm so scared the other 49 looked dumb or were stupid.
What I'm trying to say is, I think the actual recording time would be an interesting look at, in this case, your confidence although with the datas correlation coefficient isn't actually readable from it due to sheer mistakes and thinking time but I still think it would be interesting to know.
