What you are describing here is the “Harambe Effect”, named after the Harambe meme of 2016. The Harambe Effect (also called Harambe’s Law when viewed as a predictor) is when a meme’s dankness lifespan is drastically cut short due to normie usage, leaving the meme to have only been good for an almost insignificant amount of time. Many times, this drastic change from dank to dead is followed by a period of rejection, where the meme is ridiculed and hated by those who enjoyed it pre-normification. This then leads to the later recollection of the meme as being a bad one. The Harambe Effect is characterized by a sudden shift in the perception of the meme by the non-normies, the extremely short amount of time spent as a dank meme, and the total rejection of it after normification.
This first was made most prevalent with the case of the Harambe meme in 2016. The meme’s dankness has lasted about a month, from the beginnings of June to the middle of July. At that point, not long after the peak dankness with “dicks out for Harambe”, the meme got discovered by normies who disseminated it further beyond the limits of quality. After this, any mention of Harambe within meme circles was either met with the normie response of “oh that is a good meme” or the non-normie response of “that meme is dead so don’t mention it again”.
This same process has been repeated both in cases before the Harambe meme and in cases afterward. The Harambe meme was the first clear example of this effect taking place, and so was named after it. Also, the memes that most exemplify the Harambe Effect characteristic of lasting a short time came after Harambe, and so the Harambe meme can be considered the first true meme to suffer this effect. However, memes from previous years did suffer fates that fall under the Harambe Effect, though not in the same way as more modern memes.
Memes that have suffered the Harambe Effect include “Doge” (lasting at least 3 months), “Harlem Shake” (lasting only a few days before becoming a “trend” rather than a meme), “Impact Font/Top Text Bottom Text (not including the separate “Bottom Text” meme)” (lasting less than a year), and the more recent memes of “Somebody toucha my spaghet” (lasting less than a month) and “Ugandan Knuckles” (lasting no more than three weeks).
To date, Ugandan Knuckles is the meme to have lasted the shortest amount of time before normification, since by the 20-23 of January it was normified.
It is important to remember that a meme which has suffered the Harambe Effect should not be hated in the future. They, in their prime, were dank and were good. In a sense they were corrupted by normies, but they were not always in that corrupt state. We must look back and remember why the meme was funny to begin with and appreciate it as such, although we should rightly discard it from being used as a dank meme due to its normification.
I think that the Ugandan Knuckles meme was just doomed to fail though. There's no real room for creativity, so of course, normies will just spam the same thing over and over. It really was better off as Knuckles Sings.
The main theme of these trending memes is that they're only funny for, like, the first three times. It's like repeating the same joke over and over without doing something new with it.

This is just my opinion on the situation but Id argue that Harambe was always a bad meme even before it got spammed. It was never good. A lot of the examples you mentioned kind of feel like either they were terrible from the start, like the harlem shake, or dont really even make sense to make memes in the first place like "somebody toucha my spaghet".
Things like "Somebody toucha my Spaghet" dont work as memes because for the most part they're just kind of one note jokes, and jokes like that dont have to and often dont translate into being memes. Their existance is fleating and designed for single time use and not transformative, multilayered meme use. Their simplicity makes them funny jokes but at the same time it makes it really hard to actually add to them or change them without losing what was funny about them or the creator's original intent and appeal.
Its the opposite problem of something like the harlem shake, which is made in a way where its easy to remix and reproduce and is made in a way where its easy to morph the original intent of the creator without losing the orignal intent of the creator. Only problem is the base that everyone is using is inherently unfunny and terrible so its quality hampers any attempt from the get go from being funny, leading to a lot of terrible terrible remixes.
Then you got stuff like harambe which is the worst of them all, where it has the difficult to remix aspect of just regular jokes while also being unfunny like an actual unfunny meme, which just makes it a terrible joke turned terrible and forced meme. Harambe never really had much to work with and it took a lot of genuine effort to actually make it funny on top of being hard to work with since the base joke isn't even funny to begin with.
Isaac Argesmith about what you said about the spaghet meme, have you seen flying kitty's spaghet + all star video? I think it's the best use of the spaghet meme because he actually sentenced mixed the original source which is impressive considering the fact that he only had a 6 minute episode to work with.

I agree completely, it was really fun running around yelling with a bunch of other people in VR chat but outside of it the meme made no sense and it had no point, they tried to convert it to the usual meme format and that's what killed it

As for the meme's origins, it began with a video by Gregzilla reviewing Sonic Lost World, where he made a second long clip of a XD WACKY drawing of Knuckles that was pretty decent. Then, it came back, in the form of a short video called "knuckles sings" in which case the drawing is animated to sing a short bit of I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots. It was then increased in length into the full song. Then, it started to blow up a little more a small contained grenade where Knuckles would sing some more songs. Than, it faded.
Boom, enter VR Chat. Someone made a playable model of this drawing. Why? No clue. It was funny though. Than, someone made a video about a swarm of Knuckles started quoting Who Killed Captain Alex. Why? No clue. It was kind of funny. Then it exploded. A bomb. Then more. A nuclear bomb. Then, finally, the nail in the coffin, some sort of world ending bomb blew up on the meme and the poor little chubby knuckles became more dead than your average vietnam soldier. I'm guessing you didn't cover most of this as to keep that short minute time frame, but man, the journey of a fat little echidna to a skeleton in the grave is one I'll never forget. Rest in piece, Gregzilla Knuckles.
It’s weird having seen this meme from the start, since it was technically two sub memes before it took off. For those that don’t know, the meme was originally popular with lip syncing songs and posting with “Oh no” text before becoming Ugandan Knuckles. This really is a weird phenomenon for memes

The first few online videos of this were some of the craziest funniest shit I've seen for a while. What series of events led up to a whole bunch of dudes online walking around as this shitty model of knuckles, speaking in ugandan accents, wanting to find their way to the queen or the commander and making clicking noises and spitting on anyone who doesn't help them? It truly was beautiful, but I have no idea why it turned into such a meme outside of those videos. It's not funny unless you know the original context.

I'm l8 once again to the party, but I think it's worth mentioning that (at my school at least) it was extremely appearant that this meme was going to go normie. It's all thanks to the fact that it is indeed the truest form of a meme: something that can be spread from person to person with viral intensity. And it's all due to the memes catch phrase: "do you know de wae" which once spoken immediately exposes others to the joke. (Which, like you said, was the very de-evolution of the meme itself)
I myself witnessed one of the Ugandan Knuckles encounters before it blew up, I was having the time of my life and thought it was just a silly little one off, then it turns out I was completely wrong, and after that, everything just got worse and worse.

That is how most memes die though. A meme goes out of style when it is used enough and eventually peacefully fades out. A meme dies when it is still used long after the point of being humorous. Who does this? "Normies," or people who just don't get what makes the joke funny.

Your new meme show lacks the common edits that your ytp vids have. There’s no random earrape which is what I enjoy. I personally find this show’s quality to be equivalent to behind the meme’s videos without the filler, but still keeps the generic, bland execution as well as the same background and stock music.

It was a very funny meme at the 1st week of it then it became more and more stale. But the 1st video I saw of it made me cry of laughter but then 3 days later it was about dead to me.

The meme was actually pretty funny when it first came out, I quite enjoyed it. Now it’s just been so beaten down and stripped that it’s just dumb now. At my school there’s a volleyball tournament, and there were posters on the school hallways saying stuff like “do you kno da wae to the volleyball tournament?” and it just had pictures of knuckles all over it. It’s just sad nowadays.

I understand that it's an intentional editing/design choice for this series, I don't like how you add new images to the screen, whilst keeping the old ones up in the background - it just becomes a visual clusterfuck over a short period of time, especially considering the pace in which you throw in more images.
I'd suggest either slowing down the machinegun-pace of images on the MS Paint window, making one image appear at a time, or both.
I get that it would slightly hurt the windows xp aesthetic, but the background music, rolling hills wallpaper, and color pallete make the aesthetic strong enough as it is.

Originally from what I understand both this and 9/11 memes were satiring various things, with knuckles being tribal stereotypes and 9/11 memes making fun of the stupid conspiracy theorists saying it never happened by showing both to their most ridiculous extremes. They had some depth and were poking fun of really stupid ideas. Then people who didnt GET the joke and just liked the edge and punchline found the joke. This led to people recreating both jokes without their original intent, leading to shitty watered down videos and memes that were only meant to be funny because they were edgy, not because they were actually cleaver jokes, and just turned them into the fucking mess they both are now. At least that's what I understand about both meme anyways.

Ugandan Knuckles has become Harambe part 2. It was funny for a bit, involving an animal and a catchphrase, but the general public also can enjoy funny animals and catchphrases. Within a few weeks, the meme got raped and pillaged by normies. I started hearing "Do you know de way" being said at my school and then large crowds of people laughed at it. Everyone was getting in on it. After I considered the meme well dead, I played VR chat and I saw a little Ugandan Knuckles being voiced by a girl trying to make her voice high and cute, one of my pet peeves. She spouted the same series of catchphrases we all heard a million times. "Do you kno de wae? Spit on de fake queen pbbt you know de wae" drivel. Sad cringey drivel. It was at that moment where I concluded that Ugandan Knuckles was not only dead but only a pile of splintered skeleton.
Make this rule because you started a war. Behind the Meme will no longer kill memes when he uploads one, and the dead memes shall not be classified as dead anymore.

I think Ugandan Knuckles could potentially see a revival if the Sonic franchise doesn't die. All it would take is for Sega to do some unintentionally goofy ass shit with Knuckles, a clever but tangible connection between the two, and blamo Ugandan Knuckles is back on the meme market. The problem though is that Ugandan Knuckles got normified, meaning that normies will remember it. As soon as UK 2.0 is back, all it takes is for one big Youtuber to do some shitty video on it and it'll be normified again, killing it a second time. The only way to avert this tragedy is for all the normies who lived through it to die off first, which at this rate will probably take about a century at the least.
Either that, or the meme needs to evolve and all ties to 'Who Killed Captain Alexander' need to be dropped. Smol Knuckles was its own minor meme before people tacked on the Ugandan bit. It could see another life, but I'm stumped on how, and frankly trying too hard would be forcing the meme, which AFAIK isn't a proven to work strategy.

The reason why this meme was adopted by the normies and was then called racist by the same group of people is because being an outcast and a normie is not black and white, rather there is a spectrum of normieness. The first ones to adopt it where only psedo-normies, or outcasts who act like normies who want to be a part of normie society, which led to it going through the spectrum of normieness until it became known by the ultra-normies, including things like CNN and 12 year olds who watch the Paul brothers. Also, I can sort of understand his anger toward BTM. He poorly explained a topic emplemon was passionate about (ytps) and reinforced all of the misconceptions people had about them. However, BTM is not nearly as popular as emplemon thinks. In fact, I don’t recall a single BTM video cracking 1 million views! With this in mind I do not think that BTM has enough influence or power to kill a meme. It’s too far fetched.

38 likesI think that the Ugandan Knuckles meme was just doomed to fail though. There's no real room for creativity, so of course, normies will just spam the same thing over and over. It really was better off as Knuckles Sings.
The main theme of these trending memes is that they're only funny for, like, the first three times. It's like repeating the same joke over and over without doing something new with it.
I wasn't aware that the Spaget meme is already going to shit though. Is it because of lack of creativity as well, or is it purely the Harambe effect?
This is just my opinion on the situation but Id argue that Harambe was always a bad meme even before it got spammed. It was never good. A lot of the examples you mentioned kind of feel like either they were terrible from the start, like the harlem shake, or dont really even make sense to make memes in the first place like "somebody toucha my spaghet".
29 likesThings like "Somebody toucha my Spaghet" dont work as memes because for the most part they're just kind of one note jokes, and jokes like that dont have to and often dont translate into being memes. Their existance is fleating and designed for single time use and not transformative, multilayered meme use. Their simplicity makes them funny jokes but at the same time it makes it really hard to actually add to them or change them without losing what was funny about them or the creator's original intent and appeal.
Its the opposite problem of something like the harlem shake, which is made in a way where its easy to remix and reproduce and is made in a way where its easy to morph the original intent of the creator without losing the orignal intent of the creator. Only problem is the base that everyone is using is inherently unfunny and terrible so its quality hampers any attempt from the get go from being funny, leading to a lot of terrible terrible remixes.
Then you got stuff like harambe which is the worst of them all, where it has the difficult to remix aspect of just regular jokes while also being unfunny like an actual unfunny meme, which just makes it a terrible joke turned terrible and forced meme. Harambe never really had much to work with and it took a lot of genuine effort to actually make it funny on top of being hard to work with since the base joke isn't even funny to begin with.

0 likesAs for the meme's origins, it began with a video by Gregzilla reviewing Sonic Lost World, where he made a second long clip of a XD WACKY drawing of Knuckles that was pretty decent. Then, it came back, in the form of a short video called "knuckles sings" in which case the drawing is animated to sing a short bit of I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots. It was then increased in length into the full song. Then, it started to blow up a little more a small contained grenade where Knuckles would sing some more songs. Than, it faded.
2 likesBoom, enter VR Chat. Someone made a playable model of this drawing. Why? No clue. It was funny though. Than, someone made a video about a swarm of Knuckles started quoting Who Killed Captain Alex. Why? No clue. It was kind of funny.
Then it exploded. A bomb.
Then more. A nuclear bomb.
Then, finally, the nail in the coffin, some sort of world ending bomb blew up on the meme and the poor little chubby knuckles became more dead than your average vietnam soldier.
I'm guessing you didn't cover most of this as to keep that short minute time frame, but man, the journey of a fat little echidna to a skeleton in the grave is one I'll never forget. Rest in piece, Gregzilla Knuckles.

It's origins and the way it's many segments came together to form such a peculiar amalgamation is fascinating, however the meme itself does not have much substance or really that much adaptability. It's all thanks to the fact that it is indeed the truest form of a meme: something that can be spread from person to person with viral intensity. And it's all due to the memes catch phrase: "do you know de wae" which once spoken immediately exposes others to the joke. (Which, like you said, was the very de-evolution of the meme itself)

Your new meme show lacks the common edits that your ytp vids have. There’s no random earrape which is what I enjoy. I personally find this show’s quality to be equivalent to behind the meme’s videos without the filler, but still keeps the generic, bland execution as well as the same background and stock music.

Originally from what I understand both this and 9/11 memes were satiring various things, with knuckles being tribal stereotypes and 9/11 memes making fun of the stupid conspiracy theorists saying it never happened by showing both to their most ridiculous extremes. They had some depth and were poking fun of really stupid ideas. Then people who didnt GET the joke and just liked the edge and punchline found the joke. This led to people recreating both jokes without their original intent, leading to shitty watered down videos and memes that were only meant to be funny because they were edgy, not because they were actually cleaver jokes, and just turned them into the fucking mess they both are now. At least that's what I understand about both meme anyways.

Within a few weeks, the meme got raped and pillaged by normies. I started hearing "Do you know de way" being said at my school and then large crowds of people laughed at it. Everyone was getting in on it. After I considered the meme well dead, I played VR chat and I saw a little Ugandan Knuckles being voiced by a girl trying to make her voice high and cute, one of my pet peeves. She spouted the same series of catchphrases we all heard a million times. "Do you kno de wae? Spit on de fake queen pbbt you know de wae" drivel. Sad cringey drivel. He made that video to have his voice heard, so I'm entitled to have mine heard too. However, BTM is not nearly as popular as emplemon thinks. In fact, I don’t recall a single BTM video cracking 1 million views! With this in mind I do not think that BTM has enough influence or power to kill a meme. It’s too far fetched.
