I can definitely see Twilight creating the "Equestrian Clock" that controls the day and night cycle, and the creation of such technology could have then began the advancements we see in G5 Equestria!

I honestly think she might have gave it to Discord. Essentially they are the One Singular being that can ignore the concept of time space and even the progression of reality itself. Maybe she entrusted him with the most important duty that all the planet could ever have given. To ensure that he safeguards The Amulet which is the key to the cycle of day and night so that no pony can ever touch it and ever disrupt the cycle of balance

It's important to note that the day and night cycle was an extension of Equestria's unique environmental laws. The ponies of FiM were shown to be elemental creatures, necessary for nature to function. Everything from the snow to the rain to the falling of the leaves to the hibernation of animals depended on direct pony intervention. Alicorns governed the heavens, pegasi managed the sky, and earth ponies looked after the land (while the Everfree Forest was considered a freakish anomaly, a profound mystery that was never explained).

I do prefer to think of G5 as a sort of alternate continuity, but if we're trying to reconcile every discrepancy then we have to acknowledge the fundamental shift of the Equestrian cosmos. Whatever occurred, it went from the day/night cycle all the way through the entire ecosystem. The sun and the moon are just the peak of the iceberg.

I've ALWAYS wondered how the heck the sun was setting on it's own in "The Last Problem". Your theory explains it and I can think it's very plausible.

That is a very interesting thought, and as magic vanished, maybe this "clock" was able to last as long as you said but the first adventure of the new series will be Eternal Day and the clock stops, everyone goes to find this magical marvel, and Sunny and Izzy find a deeper connection than their cutie marks could even tell them. These two may be who Twilight knew would become the Sun and Moon successors, probably having a vision or seeking out Zecora and getting a potion so she could see the future of Equestria long after her rule, because it's Twilight and we figure she would like to know something like this, especially if she didn't have a successor, but that's just me.

I'll point out that the clock Twilight obviously made to automate the day-night cycle is by definition perfectly accurate. The accuracy of a clock is defined by how well it matches the day-night cycle, and if the length of that cycle varies--for example because of imperfections in automation, variations in planetary rotation due to earthquakes, or a moon slowly taking away angular momentum--an accurate clock must be adjusted in accordance with those variations to remain accurate. Thus a clock that controls when the sun rises and sets can never be inaccurate.

im REALLY hoping this ends up true because that potential adventure of them trying to fix a giant clock mechanism built around the tiny amulet is such a fascinating concept i want to see more of!

I was really racking my brain on this one too, I almost forgot about that sundial! It would make a whole lot of sense for Twilight to expand its usage. I’d really hope for the clock tower, it seems like it would be so gorgeous! Not to mention, if it’s falling apart when Sunny and her friends go to fix the sundial, it’d be a point of tension rather than having a physical villain!

1: Sawtooth, your theories are amazing and well thought out, and you should probably consider applying for a job at Hasbro as a writer.
2: If this clock is to be such a grand clock, why not have it in the ruins of Canterlot? IRL Big Ben, the most famous clock in the world, is located in the capital city of the United Kingdom, London. Having such an important clock that close to Twilight and in the capital city would make sense.

This theory is the most likely. However it's difficult to tell if Twilight would keep her sensibility/opinion, or as she continued to mature over centuries, she could change. But yea most likely she found a way to automate it forever. Then again, who's guarding the amulet, during the time period of the g5? You can't just leave an automated artefact that controls the time to just be lost on the streets, possibly for another powerful unicorn to pick up and alter it.

My head cannon is that Twilight crafted a mechanism that draws its power to raise and lower the sun and moon respectively from the medallion that Celestia and Luna imbued with their Alicorn magic, like the video states, and entrusted Spike to keep it both protected and maintained. At first, the mechanism, known as the Circadian Clock, was kept at the palace in Canterlot where Spike could personally oversee it, but after repeated attempts by nefarious ponies and other creatures to capture control it for themselves, it was relocated deep within the Everfree Forest. Spike then handpicked an Elite guard to which he entrusted the protection of the clock to. Over time, a small community grew at the clock’s secret location, and became known as Circadia and the guards themselves became known as the Knights of Circadia. However, due to their extreme isolation from the rest of Equestria and beyond, the relationships between Unicorn, Pegasi and Earth ponies within the secluded village would remain intact and strong. Eventually, as Twilight’s reign came to an end, and her successors would come and go, knowledge of even the existence of the clock, let alone the village of Circadia would fade into obscurity and so it would remain until the day that the sun would stop dead in the sky and refuse to set, thus bringing about what became known as the Everdawn or “Day the Sun Stood Still”.

I also love the idea of Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow controlling the Sun and Moon. It just feels like too big of a coincidence.

This is such a cool concept! However, what do you think about the events of FIM taking place exclusively in stories in the new generation universe, rather than being direct history? FIM opens and closes with a book, and its even cannon that argyle tells sunny stories of the mane six!

Something I wonder about is what happened to Celestia and Luna after they retired? I know they moved away but you'd think they'd get a lot of attention while out there. Maybe even too much attention. Sometimes I like to think that they disguised themselves as regular ponies and just lived together as sisters in peace. And if Twilight ever needed them again, she could call on them and they could finally take those disguises off within Canterlot. And they could finally fulfill those dreams of being regular ponies and not princesses (or in this case ex-princesses).

I've been thinking about that ever since the show ended tbh. It's nice to put it all down in front of me.

Your theory is so good! I can definitely see twilight do that. I just hope if they're making future movies or episodes for gen 5, they would address it, because it's easy to make a franchise of it and not follow the old rules or lores from mlp fim. And plus, because your idea of the gang going on an adventure to figure out what their ancestor has left them is pretty cool and a clever way to link with mlp fim (since I miss them still).

This is exactly what my thoughts were regarding the seemingly automated day/night cycle in the movie. I honestly can't help but picture a sort of giant magical Antikythera mechanism underneath some long forgotten ruins, just ticking away and moving the heavens far above.

Twilight definitely would've automated it. I like to imagine a small group of ponies tasked with keeping the clock maintained, passing the job down through generations. Not manually turning it, just keeping it from shutting off or repairing it when broken. Kind of literally one of, if not THE most important job in the world

I had the same idea a long time ago, automating the day/night cycle is something twilight certainly would do

My assumption when watching the movie was that maybe Twilight had found some way to release the magic into the universe so that the sun and moon cycle operated normally on its own like it does on Earth. Like she automated it by just making it a natural part of the world; we don't see any strange weather in the new movie but do they have snow and rain without pegasus magic? Maybe that was made natural too like how the Everfree Forest had its own weaether.

I gotta say tho the idea of the amulet that powers night and day having a big steampunk tower around it is METAL AS HELL. And they have to say the world from eternal day??? VERY COOL

Love this theory, Twilight would definitely do something like that. But I also know about the theory of Twilight separating her unicorn magic to make the artefact we see in the movie, so maybe with that the sun and moon could also have been separated? Perhaps there are different tribes controlling the cycle now. Personally I just wanna see the gen 5 go to discover the old Equestria, I feel like they may have intentionally (but who knows maybe not) left out some important landmarks from the movie, so they can explore the ideas later in the show. Since Hasbro decided to connect the two generations rather then starting the new page, it can lead to pretty shocking discoveries. After all so far into the future and we can see that there really are not that many ponies left. Their cities are so small and feel like they are cut out from the rest of the world

It's also possible Twilight and the council of friendship discovered how to restore the natural, no magic required day-night cycle. I remember at some point it was mentioned that the sun and moon used to move on their own, but a certain draconoquis messed that up, so unicorns and then eventually Celestia and Luna had to move them by magic. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that being the case.

A good piece of logic, although i can't see Sunny and Izzy becoming the 2 new alicorns of day/light. not least because it would ruin their friendship in the same way Luna and Celestia's friendship was ruined by them being on 2 different clocks.

As for the huge tower? that seems non-sensicle. It's right out of Fallout Equestria with the weather control towers. If I understand Twilight better, she'd have installed it inside say a town clock somewhere. like Ponyville. And maybe there is a town clock in Maretime Bay containing the salvaged clock from Ponyville. Maybe an accident breaks it, and the new 5 have to use all their abilities to fix it when they realise their broken clock stops "time".

I like to think that Twilight somehow connected the humanoid clock / time with Equestria, so that when night time is up, the moon will rise until morning by itself! Maybe she found a way to move both the sun and the moon around the their world, like how it works here on Earth.. but that'll only makes sense if Equestria is considered a whole planet itself!

Apart from that theory, I also believe that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are still have that role to move the sun and the moon when the time is right! I mean, it is their special talent, that's why they became princesses in the first place.. even if they pass on their duties to Twilight later on, they still have their cutie marks and their magic!

The only place we've seen day and night coming and going on their own before the G5 is in the forest where Zecora lived. Would that play any part to how the day/night cycle works in the future? I'm not sure, but maybe?

This theory could turn into a really interesting arc for G5. I'm hoping that they do something similar in the actual show.

Yeah, the automation of the day-night-cycle by a mystical clock sounds believable. And also the trouble of it stopping for any reason. Maybe due to lack of regular maintenance, leading to one or more parts/gears wearing down and/or breaking and needing new ones, or to be put back in its place if fallen off. Or maybe it just needs a key to wind it up, but the said key is gone, maybe hidden or even stolen a loooong time ago, or just lost by accident.

I had a similar idea when I did a pony soapbox about what one of the many causes for Equestria's divide. Granted, i always assumed such a machine was either destroyed or no long funcitioning anymore and that day and night would have to naturally occur now without anyone controlling it; even though there is an artifact I can imagine that it lost its power already even before the events of G5.

It would be kinda funny if they went from an automated clock running for millennia to giving responsibilities to Sunny and Izzy so they can manually control it again. Unless that’s the temporary fix Twilight would’ve foresaw, so that the clock can be fixed.

Surely it would need maintenance every now and again. I think this could actually make for a great plot development because if anyone’s bound to know about the clock, it’s Argyle! After the mane 5 discovering the clock is broken, I think they’ll fix it by combining what research Argyle has left behind for Sunny along with Izzy’s creative mind to come up with a new solution to restore the artifact for even longer.

Either that or like what happened with the crystals in the movie, the magic is just given to Sunny and Izzy and they’re responsible now. Maybe when they return, they’ll notice unicorns have magic to move the sun again. There’s so many ways a plot like this could go! Possibilities are endless here really :0

Going with your theory of magic equalizing between the two worlds, I think that maybe weather, and eventually the celestial bodies, with no unicorn or pegasi magic to guide them, began moving on their own. Remember season 1 episode 9, Bridle Gossip? "The Everfree Forest just ain't natural. Plants grow, animals take care of themselves, and the clouds move... ALLon their own! " Sounds like the human world. What if that eventually spread to the rest of Equestria after the Tree of Harmony was destroyed? After all, we see the forest (and possibly its magic -- or lack thereof) spreading after the tree of harmony was destroyed. It's confirmed the pink tree seen in the field in the background in one of the shots in the the G5 movie is the Student 6's treehouse. Notice no remnants of the Castle of the Two Sisters nor the Everfree Forest.
Now let me ramble on a little more about a closely related, odd theory about Equestria itself. What if it isn't a globe but rather a disc? Twilight's Castle depicts it that way. I've rewatched the whole series and only seen the moon waxing and waning (ergo blocked by another celestial body, like the earth) twice. One is obviously Luna's Cutie Mark, but that could just depict her being "outshined" by her sister as part of her character (plus it's a lot more recognizable than just a white circle.) Another time was when the Pony of Shadows took over an area, but that was quickly rectified once Stygian was saved.

This is a very interesting theory and I actually think it's plausible! I've been thinking about this for a while now but this didn't ever occur to me. I'm amazed by your ability to keep coming up with theories like this that are not only interesting but also feel very grounded. I'm hoping you're right about this one because it's undeniably really cool and it would be somewhat disappointing if the writers themselves didnt think of it.

I really like this theory and I hope they take this route or a similar one. I would love to see how much lore they could squeeze out of it. I gotta be honest though... As much as I'd like it, I really don't think we will be getting a story based so heavily in G4 lore as it could alienate new viewers. If we do, it'll be later on... prolly not as an opener.

I never really liked the amulet in the first place. Celestia and Luna took over control of the sun and moon because of their special talents and raw alicorn power made it easier for them. Before that unicorns did it. There's no reason why Twilight couldn't have mastered the celestial spells just as the ancient unicorns did. She's a expert spellcaster after all. But leaving that aside this is a great theory, especially that bit at the end with the Lusterdawn scene. I never noticed that detail and it's a good catch.

i LOVE the idea of not having a villain for the episode-like idea you had, since they guided themselves throughout the movie. there isnt someone to tell them what to do or soemone that just announces whats wrong. they have to figure it out just like they figured out how to use the tribes crystals

Very interesting! I think you’re mostly correct, but with one difference to my theory: When the magic stabilized at 50/50 (if that theory is correct), then the day/night cycles of the human world and Equestria synced up/mirrored each other- no pun intended.

Here’s my question, why did magic even disappear in the G5 movie in the first place? If all the ponies lost their magic because the 3 tribes were separated, then why did they still have there magic before the founding of Equestria? More specifically, before the tribes united for the first time? Maybe it has something to do with what Sawtooth said in his “The Future of Alicorns” video. You know, how because of Midnight Sparkle destroying the horse statue at Canterlot High, both worlds have 50% magic.

Hey Sawtooth, I had another random bathroom thought if its something you've ever thought about: the everfree forest... The tree of harmony kept it contained, and then when it was destroyed, Starswirl kept it contained. But Starswirl was old... What happened when he passed away? How did they contain the forest? Or maybe the inability to contain it contributed to the end of Equestria?

do you remember the rain when Twilight and her friends tried to get to Tirek when Cozy Glow was draining the magic from their world? How did that happened in your opinion if no pegasus caused it? :)
What I think about everything that ponies control and manage in their world, that they just change it's natural patterns and make everything predictable. They move clouds, they change seasons, they move the moon and the sun because otherwise it will be happening wrongly.
For example we don't know what is the natural sun and moon paths on the sky in ponies' world. It might be so that for some reason the day and night length can change from one hour to a week during a year. And the year length can change from 100 days to 600 days and make it hard to grow any food (especially enough for the winter of the longest years). That's why they probably need magic for these things even if everything can happen on its own eventually.
I like the idea because without this presumption some events in ponies' world make no sense.

P.S. theory number 2: they needed magic because Discord was alive and it brought chaos to their world that they were resisting. But now Discord is dead or out of their world and chaos has gone away the moment Discord died/left :)

I think that you're on the right track with what happened to the amulet. I think it's amazing that you're able to track all this down to come up with these speculations. I sure would love to see how the g-5 gang figures out more about ancient Equestria especially since Zipp mentioned that she wanted to do research!

Honestly.. I really hoped that Princess Twilight is still there but I really do like your theories.

I agree with everything you said in this video up until the part about the future, because you know that the future is never completely set in stone (much like Discord) and I believe that if one can actually see the future then if they try and tell or make it known to others in any way at all then a small piece of what will happen changes, be it the direction of the wind or something catastrophic like the appearance of an other-worldly demon.

I was wondering what your thoughts on Queen Haven and the princesses are. I was thinking about it, and the only ways for them to be royalty is to be voted in (which seems weird), or they took the throne and decided to rule. My other thought that I can't quite figure out is that maybe they were distant descendants of the g4 princesses, but that would mean that the pegasi knew everyone was friends and decided to separate anyway. I'd love to hear your opinion on how the pegasi managed to end up with royalty while the unicorns and earth ponies didn't seem to have any kind of ruler.

I was just watching Sawtooth’s first Flurry Heart theory video, when I thought of something that was never mentioned.

In season 9 Episode 26, The Last Problem, we are introduced to a new pony who was Twilight’s top student in the School of Magic after Twilight took over teaching there when Celestia and Luna retired, and that pony’s name was Luster Dawn

My question is: Does Luster Dawn become an Alicorn like Twilight did. Twilight seemed to do the same thing to Luster that Celestia had done to her. Send her to Ponyville to learn about making friends.

Another follow up question is: If Luster became an Alicorn, then what would she be the Alicorn of?

I hope there would be a series for this newer generation MLP. This is so intriguing and I’m really curious about this!❤️💜

You might be right about some things like:
1) Twilight eventually tried to pass the responsibility of day and night to Luster Dawn.
2) and maybe Sunny and Izzy might end up becoming the new princesses of day and night (Sunny be day and Izzy be night).
However, as for who/what currently controls day and night in the new generation timeline, I think the day and night eventually evolved to work independently just like how our day and night works. Here is a bit of Lore that might help contribute to the question: We know that there is more than one Twilight in the Series, so I would not consider it unlikely that The Mane-universe Twilight got some lessons from her HU-mane self. It would a lot of sense in explaining why the world is more Advanced in the "future" showcased in the movie if she picked up some lessons from her First Apprentice and her Other-self in revolutionizing the world into what we've seen. But since the story of the other world probably remained within the Element wielders, the reasoning for their Advanced world faded into legends and rumors before being forgotten completely. Would that explain how they'd invent such a Device, to begin with, or am I stretching it too far?

I had an idea you might like on this.
It's well established that the ponies' magic only controls the world around them where they have direct influence. The weather of the Everfree Forest is out of their control, the animals there take care of themselves, etc. In the Crystal Empire, when the Crystal Heart was shattered, Luna states that the weather that far north has "a will of its own."

What if the sun and the moon have "wills of their own" as well?

Perhaps it took so much effort for the ancient unicorns to move the sun and moon because they were trying to exert their magic against their wills. Then Celestia and Luna appeared and instead of working against the will of the sun and moon, their magic worked in harmony with their wills, winning their cooperation in the daily cycle. The sun and moon grew used to this cooperation, growing lax in their efforts and letting the royal sisters guide them.

Then, much later, the magic of the sisters disappeared entirely. The sun and moon waited for their guiding touch, but it never returned because pony magic was gone from the world. After a time the sun and moon remembered their own will and, reluctantly, started to move again. Except now they weren't in such perfect synchronization, each one moving as they saw fit, and for the first time in recorded pony history there was an eclipse. That detail even helped in the revision of Equestrian history as the sun and moon moving out of perfect synch gave doubt to the idea that they were ever controlled by ponykind.

I think your theory’s correct and I also have a theory about a different topic. What about Luster dawn, what if sunny is a descendant of her or flurry heart? We already know from the cake twins that their parents don’t have to be unicorns or peaguses for the child to be one. It would explain how sunny’s father had that notebook or the crystal perhaps sunny’s mother gave those to him or his mother even

Well done -- I didn't notice the sun moving without Twilight in the final episode. I will say that there is another possibility here. Twilight HAS gone to the other side of the mirror and there the sun is not being controlled by princesses. You yourself brought up that it was likely Discord who broke the natural sun/moon cycles. Maybe Twilight fixed it -- once fixed, no need for the amulet and in fact any such magics would be detrimental. In fact, maybe it would be safer for equestria if some magic was forgotten.... like would happen in a time where magic didn't work properly...

I'm really surprised I never thought about the sun setting during The Last Problem, after so many times of listening to Magic of Friendship Grows. Anyways, very interesting video! i also think that a giant clock would fit considering Twilight's character, and i really like the plot idea! It really makes me want to write a fanfic about it...

This makes a lot of sense, but I also imagine Twilight wouldn't go through with it without her friends, as she would worry endlessly about how it could stop working or be tampered with and what chaos might ensue

I can imagine it would become someone's job to keep the clock running like a lighthouse keeper. Reparing gears and keeping maintenance. Maybe it could be a job past down generationally like in the fic Keeper of Discord

I actually find that theory very interesting, what if instead it runs out of juice somepony breaks it out of pure enjoyment of vandalism? Or clumsiness? And when they realize what they’ve done they flee the scene to avoid getting caught and sunny and the gang have to figure out how to fix the clock and what parts to use to fix it?

I can see that! I remember watching the movie and when I saw the sunset I was like “wait but.. whose raising the Sun and moon..?” Also- people are speculating that Izzy’s mother is Princess Luna, which doesn’t make that much sense.. If she was we should’ve seen Luna, and The next question.. are Luna and Celestia alive..? They were still alicorns when they gave up royalty but that doesn’t mean they gave up immortality..

One thing that always stood out to me was the fact that the sun and moon can slide across the sky instead of how the natural day/night cycle works, which got me thinking what if equestria doesn’t exist as a planet in space but in an alternate dimension similar to discord’s dimension. In equestria girls there’s no magic to change night to day yet the sun and moon still have a cycle, so maybe equestria, the sun and the moon aren’t natural and were created by some other being or maybe I’m just looking to deeply into this

Why did ponies have to take responsibility for the night/day cycle in the first place? World had to evolve also back when the ponies didn’t exist yet. Everyone needs time to be active, and then to rest. Regarding that Starswirl the Bearded, supposedly the most powerful unicorn of the “sunrisers” was not immortal, it may be fair to believe that the other powerful sorcerers responsible for it were neither. At the same time, it was never mentioned that rising the Sun and the Moon was a duty passed from unicorn to unicorn through generations, so the possible conclusion is that it was just one-time, temporary solution, until the Sisters provided a more far-fetched one. Ponies had to maintain the cycle that probably stopped working naturally. The same may be said about the other events in Equestria that should “be happening themselves” (winter coming and going, weather events, leaves falling down, animals waking up from hibernation etc.). It seems that the world cannot spin around without ponies, but it is obvious it not always was that way – especially if we take into consideration the comic I forgot the name of where Discord and CMC travel back in time and we do see that the world of Equestria wasn’t born with ponies wandering on its surface, maintaining the weather. Back in the day, the world had to spin on its own. But the question remains – what actually stopped that?
It is possible the answer be found in the accient history of Equestria, long before the Sister took the throne. It was then ponies had to endure life among many feral creatures: the sirens, Sphynx, Tirek, the Pony of Shadows, to name a few. However, according to the information we have, no other creature was so successful in them terrorising the pony land than Grogar – a magical ram beast that is actually said to be a ruler of an ancient Equestria, terrorising the land. Even Discord, despite achieving a lot, was never called “a ruler of Equestria”! Still, call me out if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall it was said how exactly Grogar was making ponies fear him.
Think about it – every other major villain have their course of action apparent in the show: Discord – chaos, the Sirens – causing ponies to argue, etc. The only hint we seem to have is that the ram was extremely powerful. So, I believe that it was him who used his magic bell to store the… I don’t know how to call it, but the energy of the nature itself. I believe it is exactly how that ram was terrorising ponies – by taking nature under his control. It also nicely adds up with previous theory from almost two years ago, “The Villain that Made Equestria”, as stopping the nature could be something every pony could witness, regardless how much information they could collect from their neighbours and therefore, had to come contact with each other in order to simply survive. It could also explain why ponies were divided into tribes on that early stage – they simply had different abilities that could help fix the situation. Pegasi could fly, so they started gathering clouds; earth ponies were farmers, so they knew how to take care for plants and animals; finally, the unicorns could protect them both from monsters that could have been roaming around freely. It could also a milestone for a sentiment that was carried later by giving every tribe a certain role.
Despite eventually defeating Grogar, the changes made in nature were irreversible (to some degree). Because of this, ponies had to come up with ways to heal nature as much as possible – hence creating the events and celebrations that made ponies keep the cycles of nature and time on track, such as Winter Wrap Up.
Similarly as the Day/night cycle however, nature seems to be working just fine by itself in Gen5. There may be a lot coming about it, but one of the crucial parts of the changes is weather that changes above Maretime Bay without any pegasus moving a cloud. Because of this, I believe whatever Twilight ore some of her descendants did to the amulet could not only influence the night and day cycle, but also completely reverse the damage Grogar had done to the pony land millennia ago. A story that could be amazing to explore in Gen 5!

Sawtooth made a pretty good point with this video. Which I think they are right about it. I mean come on. SUNNY Starscout? Izzy MOONbow? If this isn't a spoiler for the newest day and night rulers. I don't know what is. But. The show is coming to Netflix soon. Maybe something somewhere to what sawtooth is theorizing will happen but I still think this is a pretty good theory overall and I believe is totally true unless something happens in the show that's completely different or maybe somewhat similar to what they said

There's one flaw, to a notion we all take for granted; "The sun and moon can't move unless they're being moved by magic"

Remember when Cozy Glow drained Equestria's magic, the sun was still moving, and it was moving *naturally*. They got closer to a sunset the more time passed.

The sun and moon may have been controlled by an artifact before ponies started doing it. They'd have killed all their unicorns if that had been an ongoing thing long before. It makes more sense that there was something there and the ponies broke it, forcing the unicorns to move the sun and moon, and as they started losing their best and brightest to the strain the relations between the tribes began to collapse.

I have an interesting theory idea for you.

Assuming that all Alicorns are meant to live for a thousand years at least, then that means that there is somepony from ancient Equestria who could possibly still be alive in the G5 era

That's a great theory for day and night ... but what about the weather? And nature? Seasons? Pegasi and earth ponies used to control that ... moving the clouds, running the weather factory, tending to animals, seasonal clean up etc ...

I think with the crack where magic was leaking into the human world there may have been a swap in power.

The human world now has magic and their governments had to learn to control things via magic.

While ponies were losing the magic and had to use technology.

In the human world, things stopped working naturally, requiring magic.

In the pony world, things started working naturally, or the ponies had to create technology because without magic it wasn't working at all.

See, I agree with this except for a few small things In my own little headcannon. For one, The amulet was just there to help her do what she would have already been able to do (They taught her how to do so previously Imo) but since she needed practice, the amulet was there to amplify what she already had. Of course, most likely due to nerves she still needed better guidance and freaked out a bit to where she actually broke the amulet in the episode. This is where I think an artifact relating to the celestial bodies did not come back into play until many moons later, maybe when twilight had finally grown into actual princess Cough Recolor Cough Form. I believe she took the idea of the amulet that Tia and Luna made and reused it, Creating a completely new amulet to make the clock, using her own power, and that's what's powering your theoretic celestial clock.
I feel like a lot of her reign actually included Twilight sacrificing small pieces of her power once in a while towards the advancement of all creature kind, culminating in your theory about the three McGuffin crystals in A new generation, where I also think she actually died making them. Then blah blah power vacuum directly following her death, blah blah Evil mare at the end of make your mark Ep. 1 rises and causes a World war, blah blah evil mare is usurped causing another power vacuum, Blah blah Civil war, blah blah Pony Kind separates and becomes racist, And then New Gen movie. All of that over many, MANY, moons of course.

I think that Sunny’s father probably would’ve been the last person that Twilight gave the amulet too. Seeing that he was very good with machines and mechanics and seemed to have a relationship towards the main 6 (the item he made for Sunny in the beginning of the movie) he would’ve been fitting to be a holder of it. And when he did pass away, he hid it in his house so that Sunny could find it, realise she was now the new holder of the day/night amulet and continue the cycle. But instead of that happening, when her house got destroyed, the magic that helped control day and night was released and was the reason why Sunny had an orange hue for wings and horn. Orange symbolising dawn/dusk

I too suspected that. It fits Twilight's character and makes sense. If so I can't wait to watch that movie / episode. Because there are eons and centuries of time that has lapsed there's no telling what we could find or discover. In regards to the new characters destinies or anything along those lines. Remember I. The past it was possible for magic to fade and only leave relics behind as a shadow of that magic. So yeah it's possible for soooooo much time to past that ponies just forgot about magic all together and that the relics left behind kept things going unaware until they break or become corrupted or even...... run-out of magic juice. My theory for this is Equestria is/was tidally locked with its parent star. Twilight, as you said in a previous video, knew she would give up her magic and all magic to save Equestria, so my thinking is she gave the planet a boost out of its orbit from g4 and earlier, while giving it a thicker atmosphere to retain heat and giving it enough momentum to spin on its own instead of becoming tidally locked again like it had for thousandsof years prior.

I always thought that a secret group of ponies were entrusted with the amulet and Twilight tasked them with controlling the day and night cycle for generations to come. I have literally zero evidence for this but I like it :D

For me the easiest explanation is more simple.. the weather/sun/night all functioned as normal before ponies. Of course like the weather they took control at some point, likely to get food or for crop propose before the windigo thing. So after all the magic is gone it just went back to its normal cycles.

As another theory I had seen before said (not sure if it was from you), Celestia and Luna are basically just the Moon and Sun spirits, brought to bring balance to Equestria and needed Starswirl's help to adapt to their new bodies, which would explain why they needed a powerful mentor.
So when they died, they just went back to their original bodies and are just moving constantly, in the way they had always been

I have not yet seen Gen 5, but I have a mini theory of where the magic went. So we know the tribes separated, and that would mean there are less friends. Twilight is gone, and so are her teachings. This keeps the tribes apart. If friendship is magic, and there are less friends in the world, than the magic might dissappear as well. Not all of it would dissappear though, because there are still friends within the tries themselves. What do you think?

I love this theory and I hope the episode idea you came up with is made. It would be a cool episode. Or at the very least the show comes up with an explanation for the sun and moon.

Twilight making a machine that automates the sun and moon at specific times as a substitute to how it was done back in the day? Well, if she could modify the mirror to open a portal to the human world whenever she wants, then I don't see no reason for that to happen.

And the machine suddenly not working and disrupting the day and night cycle (with massive severe global consequences) and the MCs trying to get it working again? That sounds like a good season finale story! Reminds me of my dad's favorite movie, The Core.

Here's some headcanon involving real-world physics. I concluded that Sawtooth's theory may be possible, but we need some additional stuff to make it work in a physical world. Of course MLP is notoriously unphysical, so whether one likes to follow up on such musings is a matter of taste.

To start with, the Moon is clearly a satellite of the planet. In one of the comics, the Mane Six even visit the Moon. The Equus Moon is much smaller than Earth’s Moon and much closer by.
It has to be small: whatever force magic is in a physical sense, changing the course of a satellite the size of a large asteroid takes immense amounts of energy already.
Where does this energy come from and how are ponies able to apply such force? I presume there needs to be an additional power source, maybe somewhere inside the planet. Alicorns/ amulets can be used to relay or control this power, but it is unlikely the energy is contained in their heads/ the item. So there's not only a mysterious amulet to be found, but some pretty big and fancy machinery remotely connected to it!

The Sun is a much greater puzzle. Equus' Sun could be a big star like Earth’s Sun. That would mean that the Sun only seems to rise and set but in reality, the planet is revolved to expose or hide Equestria from it. However, rotating a planet at will would cost unimaginable amounts of energy and would most likely rip the planet apart. So the Sun has to be a satellite too, similar in size to the moon to allow for moving it with huge but still feasible amounts of energy.
This raises many questions. What kind of object is the Sun if it is a small satellite? The smallest light emitting star-like entities in our universe are white dwarfs. However, these are still planet sized, extremely dense and heavy.

There are things that we can know, however. As there can be solar eclipses in Equestria, the Sun needs to have a higher orbit than the Moon. Due to Keppler’s law, this means that the Sun has a slower rotation period than the Moon. As we may presume that the satellites stayed in their natural orbits before ponies existed, this is what a prehistoric Equestrian would have seen: a Sun and a Moon periodically moving away from each other and then moving back towards each other, resulting in regular eclipses.

Apparently Equestrian society preferred the Sun and the Moon to be in sync, orbiting at opposing ends of the planet.
As rising the Moon and rising the Sun happens once every day, we can presume that for the rest of the day they are allowed to stay in their natural orbit. This means that either the Moon is slowed down once a day to sync with the Sun or the Sun is sped up, or both.

Note that an eternal night or an eternal day can’t happen naturally. An eternal day or night implies that both objects stopped moving altogether, which would result in them gravitating towards the planet and crushing into it. They need to move to stay in orbit! Creating eternal night means that the Sun is pushed back to the other side of the planet before it can rise every day and the Moon has to be pushed back into the night sky over and over again. Nightmare Moon needed to put a lot of work into it to make it happen!

Oh my, I didnt know you were also a changeling as well. In my alternative universe, there is a changeling who turned into stone in the forest and got out and was so lost in the timeline. And, wow, also, keep up the work Sawtooth.

Heck, Twilight could have gone as far as regulating exactly where the sun rises and sets every day so that seasons could automatically pass without them needing to change the seasons manually.

one random deep theory:
instead of moving the sun, she moved/teleported the planet. since its countless generations later, maybe. the original sun system had a problem (by moving its sun forcefully every day?),
so in Twilights ultimate spell, she moved the planet in another sun system into a natural orbit (like our earth), and being a such powerful spell, died while on it, (to integrate your twilights fate video,... kinda)
and i like the idea, of Twilight having the idea, that something important like the sun should not by in any mortals single hand/hoof/claw. and this too would free the world from a single creatures leadership.

and because she knew she could/will die with such a spell, she created the magic contained movie crystals beforehand.



and/or maybe the magic was bound to the original place the earth was, and by moving the planet the magic stayed back, except the magic bound into the crystals, maybe in preparation she absorbed all magic on earth into them, so they can take the magic with the planet.
and because it was such a rough ride, the involved ponies (mane 6?) had a fatal accident and could not release the magic again.


and since Twilight "stole" all magic and just disappeared with it, in the eyes of public, the hate seed was planted. (Although she died with the earths saving spell, but no one knows)

This idea is in the comic Fix, by DeusExEquus. Though it is unclear whether Twilight meant for it to be permanent, or just a temporary automation to allow her to disappear for several days and do what she needed to do without anyone noticing (it was only one of multiple measures she put in place).
In the comic, Luna pokes fun at Celestia for not thinking of that the whole time she was responsible for both the Sun and the Moon, and some people in the comments pointed out that maybe Celestia liked having that repetitive task to keep her grounded. We learn in the show that she even cooks her own breakfast, so that is plausible. But of course, Twilight is an entirely different pony.

Your idea makes a very large amount of sense.

However right near the end of the video I thought occurred to me though it doesn't necessarily directly connect.

"What about the wild magic/natural rhythm of the Everfree Forest?"

After all it was mentioned by members of the main six that in the everfree. The clouds move on their own, the plants grow without being tended, and the animals look after themselves.

I suppose what I'm getting at is the question is it possible that the natural rhythms from the everfree flowed out into the world or did something happen to the everfree to make it less lively and a potential threat?

There is a lot of possibility's to this theory, and your right about there being something exciting about it and what it could bring, plus their names having sun and moon in them it would be pretty interesting to do something bigger with the sun and moon concept than the last generation, I'm pretty satisfied with what concepts they had with Celestia and Luna, but I love fantasy and anything that plays with the sun and moon concepts. It would be pretty interesting to see that play out in the new generation, what kind of story line would they add on, not to forget Sunny's alicorn magic that we still have to learn more about.

I'm not usually one for the fan theories being more than, "oh, that's a fun thought," but this actually does seem very meta-likely.

Didn't starlight make a spell that automated a specific action/magic? If I'm remembering that right, then Twilight could have in theory used that spell to perpetuate the day/night cycles. Or she could have made it reflect the human worlds day/night cycles. or, the ponies had misconceptions all along about how day and night worked- they always worked automatically, but Equestria was at just the wrong angle on the planets surface to miss the day/night cycle. Celestia and Luna would 'borrow' their respective celestial bodies as needed but when it was left alone for a while, turns out it just didn't follow regular day/night rules. My personal favorite is automated spell that runs off the magic not only in equestria, but across the globe, and even the human world. After all, magic exists anywhere there is friendship- so even if equestria was suffering a deficiency, or perhaps having caused the magical deficiency, (cause like, pegasi befriended pegasi, etc, so friendship still existed, just not friendship between all three) so the friendship available was all being siphoned to fuel the clock

As much as i like this... We're going to be getting even less magic/adventure stuff then we did in gen3, and even more of the Slice of Life nonsense that made me skip most of the last 3 seasons.

I WANT to be wrong, I'd LOVE to the sun/moon to become Pony-dependant again, for magic to gradually come back in a more Modern setting, and see how the resident Dictator weaponizes it, and what ancient threats start to crop up... But i doupt it.

Its my stance that Hasbro really didn't even WANT continuity between Gen3 and gen4, just look at all the concept art... they wanted to use the same characters with races swapped around some.

seeing how twilight finds away to make something that was temporary into something permanent, I don't see why to see this theory would be silly, it's something to think about, eternal day, the gang setting out to find the source, stumbling upon a massive structure that has all the thing a massive clockwork tower would need, and it's all built around one tiny amulet, veteran viewers would be nostalgic about that amulet and it would answer a few questions, since luna and celestia are no longer in charge of day and night, who is in charge now? this theory is interesting and something people can add to the "what will be the next topic for the next MLP gen 5 movie?" pile, and even if people disagree, it's a theory, it may or may not be the next gen 5 movie, either way this is a good theory.

A very good theory! I was thinking about that too. I never noticed that when the sun sets one last time when Twilight and her friends watch Luster Dawn go away Twilight didn't used magic for setting the sun. That's a solution Twilight would do. She is now the ruler of Equestria, of day and night. She doesn't have to be awake at dusk and dawn for the sun and the moon, especially if she's busy fighting evil or is sick.

I have a theory. Remember at the last part of the season where Queen chrysalis, Tirek and cozy glow got turned into a statue?

You know I’m really curious about cutie marks for this new generation. During G4 we saw that cutie marks were inherently magical and switching cutie marks changes ones destiny. If they don’t have magic, why do these new gen ponies have cutie marks? Are they born with them? Do they paint them on because they saw their ancestors had these? I’m a little confused in them having cutie marks when there’s no magic.

Yeah... and the same may happen to Zipp Storm, because as I see, weather is also automatic, which means there is no need for pegasi to control the weather. Zipp may be the key to solve this problem.

That aside, recovering powerful magics, arcane technologies, and everything and mixing it up with new technologies could be nice.

The story of reverse-engineering and recovering old technologies/magics and reviving it has been popular in many stories, but instead of following the cliché of building on the past alone, the new people could mix and match highly optimized, arcane ancient tech and new, highly modifiable technology to create something better than either!

Perhaps as you mentioned that Sunny and Izzy would take on the responsibility you can see how this could happen. Sunny’s father was very into the idea of magic therefore as I have seen in some of these comments, he could’ve kept it in the light house due to him either being a relative or trusted pony of Twilight’s descent and as it was destroyed in recent times they would have seen days becoming longer and longer until it was eternal. They gang goes on scout for this and why it’s happening to only lead them right back to where they began. That would be very interesting in my view point. Just a theory.

Sunny Starscout has both "Sun" (day) and "Star" (night) in her name... that could also mean something, especially since she's the alicorn.

I started to think...how we could see sky colors changing during early and late day hours if the princesses were moving sun and moon? Maybe I'm totally wrong but if they used to control sun and moon then I'm assuming that the earth wasn't moving. But the sun and moon had to move in case of creating "afternoon" "evening" and such. Celestia and Luna would have to use their magic all the time wouldn't they?

I love the new MLP movie! But it breaks my heart that friendship is magic is over!

The only thing about this scenario I don't like is how it could be Jossed in a less interesting way in canon. For the most part I've been less enamored with cosmological changes in the transition to G5 that make it more like our astrological reality, but this theory really turns that around for me!

Yes this whole “sun and moon” moving by themselves has been bothering me ever since the movie came out! i speculated that it was some kind of weird everfree forest magic type thing but this makes much more sense lmao

I think your right however I think it links to sunnys hologram wings and horn. I think it was predicting her destiny in a semi physical way and that when she restores it she gets and actual horn and wings as she takes on her new responsibility similarly to when celestia did

Its possible that Twilight used the Amulet Celestia and Luna gave her in a spell that made it so the moon and sun changed automatically. It would make sense to have Day and Night switch on their own without the need of an object that, if broken or left suddenly inoperable, can lead to disastrous consequences to both the land and its inhabitants.

Amulets lose their magical properties when they get broken, rendering them nothing more then unusual and pointless objects. If the Day/Night Amulet were to be broken in some way, the solar magic within it could instantly vanish, leaving Equestria's monarch unable to resume her control of the Day/Night cycle.

A sky that is perpetually either day or night can cause the surrounding kingdoms to blame ponies for the harmony imbalance they caused, leading to restricted trade, segregation and potentially even war.

In order to avoid this horrible future, Twilight transferred the solar magic of the Amulet into the Sun and Moon, ultimately causing them to gracefully move slowly across the sky on their own. Forever.

By now I'm convinced that Twilight is the first modern ruler of Equestria. If she can create such inventions, she could invent and create more than that. First modern ruler, or more precisely, The first to raise sun and moon using the amulet solely and rule Equestria as a single sovereign. Twilight, the first modern sovereign queen.

Maybe the hourglass in Celestia's library finally ran out of sand? Possibly had something to do with the magic disappearing. We see it during the episode where Twilight spooks herself by traveling back in time a week to warn herself not to worry about anything, leading to herself freaking out for a week

Maybe Twilight just figured out she could yeet the planet around the sun and the moon around the planet? She's science-minded enough to potentially figure out gravity on large scales, and Equestria could have simply had ponies doing the job because some magical issue in the distant past disrupted the day/night cycle and ponies didn't know enough to have any idea how to restore the planet and moon to natural orbits.

That whole thing with Sunny & the gang finding the clock would make a great episode for the upcoming series. "My Little Pony: Make Your Mark" premieres on Netflix on September 26, 2022. "My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale" premieres on Youtube on April 7, 2022.

This is an awesome theory. I thought the same thing when I saw that Twilight wasn't controlling the day and night in that episode. I think she created a machine like the portal machine to control the night and day cycle it's an awesome theory and I think that is what happened tbh. Twilight has that mindset to create that type of machine so it's very possible she did just that so she could just focus on other things going on in Equestria.

Personally, I'm a fan of the idea that the cycle is run by a clock. I'm also a fan of the initial adventure being to find this clock and get it working again.

But I'm a real proponent of the idea that they can't fix it, despite their best efforts, but know they have to. And then, one of them realizes that for all its complexity and magical parts, a clock is just a machine. They don't need a wizard; they need an engineer. They need Sprout Cloverleaf.

You know, in one of the early scripts for the G5 movie, the pegasi had a weather machine that was powered by their crystal. So they were going in that direction somewhat. The early scripts had a lot more steampunk in general, with the flying machines and the design of Sunny's lighthouse (and even Sunny herself). Maybe with the success of Arcane on Netflix, they will decide to lean into that a bit more? Then again, if they weren't doing that before, it's probably a little late to change now.

I think twi prefere automatisation, as for me its just easier and more relieble. Clock can be magic artifact too, with some rechargeble mechanism, idk solar panels, and boom, you got self susteineble day-night cicle. Yes there non such thing as "Eternal Mechanism", even with magic, but for most of the world this change would be negletable until clock stops, but if Twi really done this, i think this machine is really deep underground in germetic room without air, but who knows?

If twilight finds a way to change solar energy to magic energy and use it on the clock, she can make the clock run on forever. If human twilight found a way to change electrical energy into magic absorbing device, i think twilight would be able to change other energies into magic energy

In your How Discord came to be video, in which you pointed out reasons why Grogar couldn't of created Discord and one of the reasons you pointed out was the time gap Discord should've appeared in but didn't for some reason. But i noticed a tiny detail, when you were talking about Tirek you used a teenage Tirek image from the FIENDship is magic #2 comic, a comic all about a younger Tirek, and in that comic we see Discord show up in King Vorak's castle, which was before when Tirek and Scorpan traveled to Equestria, therefore being before the Tree of Harmony and also before Discord's Reign. I just wanted to point that out because I personally believe the theory that Grogar created Discord.

Well, if artifacts last the longest, and technology doesn`t need magic at all, I think that this sort of master clock is not only likely to exist, it HAS to exist, in one way or another. Alternatively, Twilight based it on something that isn`t as likely to break! In our world, there are literal "Atom clocks", and they are named that because they rely on the vibration of atoms within quartz crystals, making them the most accurate clocks in the world. I think Twilight did something very similar, maybe even the exact same, going to the human world, and using the components of our technology to make this master clock! Something that will never break for millions of years!

Thanks for sharing another interesting video with us, Sawtooth! The idea of a magical clock that controls the day and night cycle is pretty cool. I can imagine a team of clock tower keepers maintaining the gears and watching over the sun and moon amulet over the years.
I wonder how the sun and moon used to work before unicorns and alicorns started moving them. There are scenes where they're stationary and other scenes where they're still moving even without anyone directing them. The rules of the MLP world are a bit puzzling in this particular area. It's also unclear how big those celestial bodies are compared to the "planet". And are ponies the only creatures who have ever tried to move the sun and moon? Hmm…

More logically, the ponies never controlled day and night but created the ruse they did, to give them enough global power to protect ponykind from more powerful nations. The times they assumedly did, like Nightmare Moon and so, was the only time they actually influenced them. I mean, were controled the cycle befor the six unicorns, or before there was any sapient life?

it's known in biology that length of day/night affects the biological processes in animal species and in humans (arguably) to some extent, perhaps Equestria has a natural rotation of sun and moon, but it's more like on the scale of arctic day/night circle there day could me months length. I don't think it's so extreme in Equestria, but it could be a point that in Modern Equestria day/night circle is different then in Twillight years of rule. like who was raising Sun and Moon when ponies came to this lands originally? 3 pony tribes agreed to live peacifully together, but before that, would they even bother to control Sun and Moon for the benefit of the tribe? Probably there is some merit to the fact that majour events of pony history usually depicted at winter time, rather then just christmas allegory or something.

Maybe it won't even be running out of juice that causes the new cast to need to find the clock, the machine needs other types of upkeep. Pieces will need to be swiftly replaced if rusted or damaged to minimize how many seconds delayed dawn and dusk will be, debris might fall into the machinery and jam it, or even just the clock somehow getting out of sync with normal time (my sucky alarm clock is always a few minutes fast no matter how many times I correct it). Not to mention, if someone is left to manage the clock, it may not stay secret depending on who knows where that pony went. Imagine if everyone knew where to make the sun rise, or make time stop, or to get a very powerful magical artifact that was guarded by one pony that could easily be held for ransom and as a small artifact, it could easily be lost, like the one ring from LOTR was for 2461 years.

Actually, you bring up a whole new line of questioning: in FIM, ponies are responsible for basically the entire ecosystem. Pegasi control the weather, ponies get together to change the seasons, etc. So how the heck is anything still functioning if everypony’s lost their magic and pegasi, unicorns and earth ponies aren’t even on speaking terms anymore?

The sun and night thing in that universe has always been weird. Because our princesses raise and set the moon and sun with magic, but they aren't moving the moon and sun 24/7. It would show their horns glowing constantly, and like Cadence they would be EXHAUGHSTED.

Crazy theory "Maybe after it was given to her, she just broke it, and use the magic to activate a more natural way to make the both bodies rotate, maybe by making the sun into an actual one, making the planet orbit it, and then she just moved the moon into an orbit around the planet, making a day and night system similar to our own solar system, and she could have even populated the new system with planets and other moons, so the ponies of the future find them

im going to be real here- this theory is smart and should be a plot at some point for the G5 series but the bigger question is, will the company of G5 actually DO it. Maybe two new special magical items were made by Twilight Sparkle that were able to raise the Sun and the Moon in the future because she knew that this was the only way to help in raising the Sun and the Moon so she created this items to do this duty in the future.

when Twilight became ruler she realized that she had too many responsibilities and didn't have the time to control day and night and asked Celestia and Luna if they could control day and night again and all the alicorns are still out there somewhere but where are they and why are they hiding .

I believe a huge disaster had come to pass involving the trio cozy,chrysalis, tirek and the everfree forest. Way back in the early episodes mlp pretty much operates like naturally in our world. The elements prevented them from spreading so nothing was left to stop it. The trio had somehow escaped evidence in the new series suggested they are involved with the distrust in each other and the loss of magic..

My personal theory is that the Everfree Forest took over Equestria, which causes the sun and moon and weather to control itself.

It would also make sense why the Unicorns live in this new forest.

What I think is in the ancient past before Celestia & Luna the sun & moon rises & lowers like our world's but they wanted two rise the sun & moon for some reason. Then it continues for years. When Twilight got the amulet she used her magic on it to do the day & night cycle before the sorcerers started to raise the sun & moon

Ok so crazy and probably completely baseless theory… more like a random thought, but what if Sunny and Izzy are far descendants of Celestia and Luna?? Just thought of this because of how you brought up Izzy and sunny possibly inheriting the day night cycle… would be ironic, like Celestia and Lunas decendants, in some sense repaying Twilight for her contributions to equestria

I think that twilight made the clock and when there was two people to help with the sun and moon aka sunny and Izzy the clock would stop. And since Izzy already had a horn for magic I think that the clock was just waiting to magic to return so Izzy could take control but as soon as magic returned sunny became an alicorn so the clock gave the sun power to Sunny and gave the moon power to Izzy

My personal belief is that as magic faded from Equestria, much of the world returned to a natural cycle. Since magic is not the natural way of Equestria, as seen in the Everfree Forest, whose fear literally stems from the fact that it is a place independent from magic. I imagine the seasons, animals, clouds, weather, and day and night cycle eventually just returned to their natural order. Since there was a time before ponykind in Equestria, assumedly there must have been a time where day and night happened on its own. The natural balance of the Equestrian landscape was actually thrown off by ponies who manipulated the land to their desires, to a point where the land unlearnt how to regulate itself. I imagine there would have been a period in which the Sun and Moon didn't move, until eventually the equilibrium was restored. The ideas behind Equestria's manipulated nature is probably the most interesting part of MLP lore for me.

I think the twilight didnt rule for that long, and that's why she didn't have a successor rule. I think she ruled for a couple centuries tops which may seem like a long time but Celestia and Luna we're still fairly young age wise when they retired and probably couldve ruled for longer

I have theory that since Discord is immortal and with a little amount of friends he made Fluttershy and probably the others immortal as well. I mean thing about Discod is married to Fluttershy he would want her to live along side him , same came with the other cuz the mana six are his family and why wouldn't he ?

Unfortuantly since Lauren Faust, based the FIM (Friendship is Magic) series plot arch on Disney cartoons, it would be safe to say that this is an alternate universe and there for not cannon. Which does follow the trend of the My little pony series. Straight from gen 1 to FIM they have never actually been connected to it's predecessor. So where this is indeed an interesting theory and would be awsome to write as a Fan Fic I actually don't believe that this will ever happen. If it does, then you can say I told you so.

The only FIM references in the movie are just a few statues, and pictures. Which are more a kin too easter eggs then anything. Also who is to say that Twilight did make an automated machine to control day and night. If this is the same universe as FIM series then this could verywell be a different country entirely. Twilight was the first Made Alicorn, not a born Alicorn. So this makes her like a celebrity in the world. We all assume that Twilight passed on, but was their any evidence to this? No there wasn't.

So my theory is that Twilight and the Main six are still in Equestria and the characters from the most recent movie are in fact in a distant land that have heard about Twilight and her friends. If you go back to the reveal of the Friendship Map, and remember that the map grows as problems grow. So I would Wager that Twilights map revealed the problem in this distant land, and she travelled to solve the problem, but realised that there was already an Earth pony who was trying too. So she was always nearbye guiding the events like Celestia use too all the while spreading friendship. Which was her calling as the princess of Friendship.

Think about it, it cannot be sheer chance that she met everyone to further her goal, it is quite possible that Twilight appeared in a visage to each of them and directed them that way, she can use mimicry magic, and if there wasn't a spell she could of created one as she was also known as the princess of magic. They would of never known that she was there disguised as another pony, her magic was now flawless this seems very likely, for as theories go.

Yes it was said by Lauren that Twilight would not outlive her friends, but now lets think about that. She revealed that but didn't elaborate on that little bit of information, her friends got older but she was still young, now what if she figured out how she was turned into a alicorn and did so with her friends, to create a monarchy. This would also play in with what Lauren said, she didn't out live her friends because, she broke the laws of death, and made her friends immortal.

And then at the end once they did celestia and Luna became apart of then Luna in Izzy and celestia in Sunny.....that's my theory it sorta links on with yours..

Basically when cozy glow takes all the magic from the bell she becomes giant and has a few changes with clothing and stuff but also her normal wings change into bat wings. I have a few theories of my own but honestly I have little clue of what actually happened:

He created a few clones of himself and went his own dandy way never looking back.. but thats a boring answer
So maybe he died? Its not likely since he’s immortal and only by being normal he disappears which could have happened but like little chance this theory is a lot more confusing.
My theory for now is that:
Discord and fluttershy got married and they lived a long happy life however fluttershy is not immortal and eventually she had to go
With her friends around her discord wanted fluttershy to have a safe passing to the afterlife and so he guided her to it
(btw I’m almost crying by the idea of fluttershy dying) thats when discord felt true harmony and he decided to leave his body and continue on like he did in the episode where Starlight was the headmare. He didnt die he just astral projected himself to the afterlife together with fluttershy

Okay let's think scientifically following my hunch that magic is energy what if the energy that connected Celestia and Luna to the sun and moon long ago decayed. Maybe you know where I'm going with this think back to science and if you learned about c12 and c14 we know that c14 is an unstable version of c12. How does this have an impact? Well assuming that Celestia and Luna might be dead by now we can also assume that there radiation/energy is connected to the magic and when all the c14 particles die by half life then the energy that connects the Princess and the amulet to the sun and moon stops working. Therefore the bond between the princess and the sun and moon are gone and because the amulet stopped working then Twilight can't make an automated clock without the amulet to control the sun and moon. BOOM problem solved using science at least I think but if someone does see this then let me know what you think.

Why did Twilight need the amulet? The six unicorns did it without the amulet magic, although with major struggle. Celestia was able to move THE MOON without Luna's magic which apparently is the only way to move the moon, in the thousand years Luna was gone.

It was like the logic of "alicorns are the only ones strong enough to move the sun and the moon alone" turned into "you need Celestia magic and Luna magic in order to move the sun and moon"

So in turn, Twilight, Cadance, Flurryheart, hell, even Cozy Glow for a short amount of time, should of been able to move the sun and moon without their magic, but they can't because they dont have the royal sisters magic?

What doesnt make sense to me is we can see in certain episodes that they acknowledge that they live on a planet but the sun and moon are the things that move and granny smith talks about space and aliens…

Where are the other creatures?
The whole series near its last few seasons was centred around unity not just for ponies but for all of the world
Griffins and dragons and changelings all together because everyone is capable of love and friendship in its own way
So where in the heck are they?

I sort of left the Fandom once I finished season 9 and I never had anything to do with mlp since then, it's not because that I hate the new generation I actually wouldn't know how I'd feel with the new mlp cast I literally haven't watched it. I guess I stopped mlp because I was going through a change in friendship myself and things took a drastic turn or it could be me just growing out of the Fandom and into a new one like FNAF and UNDERTALE. Anyways, I wanted to just share this with someone and say this.
I just want to say that I am amazed and happy the mlp Fandom hasn't died it just got reborn, yes I will miss the old days but I won't cry because it's over I'm happy because I was a part of it. We came a long way as fans making art, writing songs, analyzing episodes, headcanons, theories, conventions, you name it! This show has done it's job at forming friendships that will last a long time. Yes, we also had our battles to fight against haters and toxic people both inside and outside our Fandom, but even with all that hate and abuse we stand by our moto of love and tolerance. So anyways It's been like 1000 years since I've seen this Fandom and I got to say see you and other bronies still doing what you love makes me remember a piece of me that I thought I lost...a sort of sense of wonder, hope, and creativity. I guess all I have to say now is keep up the good work I'll be sure to stick around and who knows maybe I'll join the herd again one more time. Take care and BROHOOF!

Crystal Empire, Everfreee forest, Changling lands, and possibly those beyond of Equestria's borders, we seen nights days and weather change without the princess's help. In "To Where and Back Again" the princess and the mane six were captured while timed passed from day to night on Starlight, Trix, and Discord quest to save Equestria. When magic lost even the magical veil dissipated back to nature. Just a thought

I have thought about it, and I have a theory of my own: No pony controls the sun and moon in G5, because no pony ever needed to. The thought of magic making the celestials bodies move, when gravity obviously exists in Equestria, is ridiculous. planets revolve around the sun naturally, and the moons revolve around them.
I know, we've seen ponies (and other creatures) moving the sun and moon. When Celestia was abducted the night lasted longer, when unqualified creatures controled the sun and moon they moved out of cycle and order.
But I have explanation for all this: illusion magic. Early on im Equestria, the unicorns wanted to be adored and respected, so they made a show of themselves controlling the sun and moon. It was accepted and became a tradition, until the unicorns in charge believed they need to do it for real and it drained their magic - of course it did, they were directing it to bodies too far off and too big for their own capacities.
Fast forward several years, and two sisters rise up, with the confidence they can move the sun and moon and illusion magic strong enough to fool even themselves.
1000 years later, Nightmare Moon interrupts and with illusion magic (not being aware that it's an illusion) she makes it seem like the night lasts longer than usual. Similar cases happen when other villains supposedly manipulate day and night. As for Twilight's first wobbly sunset - a lack of confidence is what caused a glitchy illusion, even though the power source was strong.
When magic died out before g5 it didn't matter to the sun and moon - they moved according to gravity, as they always have done.

Plot twist it'd time

I do like the clock idea, but it’s not the only possibility. In G4 we saw the only beings who could control the sun and the moon were either Celestia and Luna or someone using their magic (with one exception). Twilight was obviously able to do it both with the amulet and in the season 4 finale when she had their magic directly. However, we’ve seen another individual who was able to use the sister’s magic to control the sun and the moon: The Storm King. If you recall, The Storm King was able to absorb the alicorn’s magic into his staff and then use it to control the day/night cycle. This means that it’s possible some being or entity was given or stole magic from Celestia and Luna and then began taking control of the day/night cycle. We still don’t know what happened to Equestria to cause all this fear and division, so it’s possible that maybe some kind of enemy kingdom successfully attacked Equestria in the past and stole the magic needed to control the sun and moon. Now, Equestria is in ruins and that mysterious enemy kingdom somewhere else is thriving since they now control the rising and setting of the sun for the entire world. Alternatively, perhaps the alicorns of Equestria feared some type of horrible apocalypse and gave the celestial magic to one of the other races they trusted for safe keeping. Imagine how cool it would be if it was the dragons or changelings who were controlling the sun and moon all this time because Princess Twilight feared some type of imminent disaster for Equestria and asked that one of the other races maintain the cycle in their absence. There’s a lot of cool answers to this question, but there’s also a more straightforward and simple one. Remember how I mentioned earlier that there is one exception to the rule? One character who we have seen able to move the sun and moon without the magic of Celestia or Luna? That one character is Discord. It’s entirely possible that Discord is still around and using his power to maintain the day and night cycle after Twilight couldn’t anymore. This would both explain why the cycle of day and night has continued even though the ponies don’t have magic and what Discord has been doing this whole time. However, I think I still like the clock idea the best. I’ll accept whatever the reason is that day and night cycle has continued, I just hope we’re actually given a reason at some point. Either way, thanks for the great video Sawtooth.
