I kinda wanna see this and kali linux go head to head like a comparison vs the range that each offer and the speed of each being able to break into systems. Because black arch just seems very bloated to me and kinda makes me worried that its ass trying to find the right tools on top of the fact its arch so you need a pretty good knowledge of linux to use. It looks really promising because I was looking into it last night just worried because I've been using Kali for close to 7 years and idk if this is worth it or not.

Run it on a USB to try it out! I love kali and work in it daily. But any tool can be installed on any Linux OS. It’s just a different feel and look. Debian will always be my favorite.

@Drew Pena but what Linux distro do you recommend for someone to learn Linux? Mint, and Zorin ain't really cutting it for me after 5yrs..

Drew Pena 2020-09-30 02:37:21

Phabeon Dominguez I learned Linux on kali. I wouldn’t suggest that. I struggled a metric shit ton but I advanced very very quickly. I use kali daily for fun and pentesting. And I use popOS for school and work. Both are Debian systems. So I would say Debian is probably the best to learn on. Red hat has a ton of resources and certifications to learn its OS along with Linux as a whole.
Hope this helps!!

@Drew Pena Debian ay, guess another sign that Pop-OS is the way to go, THANKs, much appreciated

@Phabeon Dominguez I would personally recommend straight up Debian as most Distro's are based off of it but everytime i try to actually use not on a USB it doesn't work like ever with the stupid nonfree software thing even if I have ALL the nonfree software. I also learned on kali and now use Ubuntu/lubuntu if I actually want a normal distro on my pc but I usually just use kali for everything as its the one I know the best. But I just found out about a tool called Ventoy where you can have multiple OS's on a USB so you can use that to try out a couple different os's before you actually install one

It's great, but totally strays from the arch philosophy by pre-installing everything, not letting you chose what you want.

If you do it on windows you can use Rufus and use the persistence on that.

@U X that may be the best way to understand and use them but if you can find something to speed up a process, why not? You may be able to design and build your own car from scratch but it's a hell of a lot faster to buy one.

Aidan Wilcox 2020-09-30 21:13:12

@Zach Le Roux exactly. And building your own tools doesn’t make sense because in the end it will end up looking like kali/parrot when you could’ve just used it by default

Indeed, it is safer to install it in a Virtual Machine, as well as Kali Linux.

As the OS, i would recommend either Debian, Fedora or Arch Linux

@Kapoor K nope. m a forensics & cyber security researcher and don't use more than 15 tools for anything related to this field. You don't need a bloated system of more than 700 tools for any purpose. Just build on what u know and use.

Yes, the installation proccess is akin to Kali's, but for the sake of your PC's security, you should install it in a Virtual Machine.

Alternatively, you could download specific BlackArch tools you require for Arch Linux through repositories.
