6:14 "Why hasn't Starlight been studying with you guys?" Glimmy doesn't know Old Ponish. She just happened to be able to read Starswirl's sloppy hornwriting.
3:34 Rainbow: "The Pony of Shadows was really real?" PonyBro: ""Oh yeah, I heard of that before, too! That was from Castle Mane-ia." That was Josh Haber's first episode, the writer of this finale.
After hearing about Starswirl constantly, we finally get to see him, along with a set of legendary ponies we've been hearing about this season. They're the original mane 6.
Also let's all take a while to appreciate Somnambula's wonderful voice.
I've always thought Starlight is somehow related to Starswirl - similar names, both are great at magic and apparently they both have terrible hand/horn writing but can still read the other's notes
20:01 Twilight: "I can't believe I'm going to meet Starswirl the Bearded! You know, outside of my dreams..." PonyBro: "What have you been doing in those dreams, Twilight?" Finding out if it's true what they say about ponies with long horns and beards. ;)
38:56 "I like how there's so many characters involved in this finale." It was an absolute nightmare animating this scene in Flash, from what I heard. I can't even imagine how many times it must have crashed on them, trying to push its limits.
This finale is just mind blowing! it's my favorite alongside season 5's finale but for a completely different reason: the pillars and the lore. I'm very glad that when they're featured the fact that they are parallels to the mane 6 aren't just a random coincidence, and they all get to bond in a way this finale!
This finale is considered to be my second favorite of the show, in my opinion. Going into this two-parter for the first time, I had no idea that the Pillars of Equestria were gonna be the main focus of this story. The same goes for the return of the Pony of Shadows (which I’m glad that was brought up again and having a more prominent role here too).
I honestly thought that Chrysalis was gonna make a comeback in this finale, but I was not disappointed by what we had here instead. Not only did the Pillars and the Pony of Shadows had me hyped, but that flashback sequence with the battle and banishment of the Sirens blew my mind. This was basically confirming that Equestria Girls was canon to the show, which was very cool.
So yeah. Love this finale, great story, characters, and an awesome season overall!
P.S: Can’t wait for your reaction to the movie, as well as the last two seasons (that goes for the upcoming Equestria Girls titles).
32:26 Meadowbrook: "While it is an unconventional approach, I believe it could work." PonyBro: "How do you know magic?" They don't call her Mage Meadowbrook for nothing! You don't need to have the ability to cast powerful spells in order to study and understand them. Just ask Sunburst. ;)
Kind of seems that they have been planning this for awhile. Not only is Meadowbrook mentioned in the Season 5 finale, but three of the other pillars are mentioned in the Season 6 premiere.
I still wonder how all of those magical items (the shovel, the mask, etc.) ended up in their respective locations after the Pillars vanished and left them behind at Ponehenge.
Well then. There we go. Finished watching every episode of the show with you when I finished this. That's appropriate for me because when I started watching blind reactions to the show, most of them ended with season 7 because the rest did not come out yet.
Yeah this was a great finale but yeah still kinda don't like how none of them realized bringing the pillars back would bring the Pony of Shadows back as well, I mean it was ridiculously obvious and even ignoring Twilight and her being to excited to realize it you think at least Starlight would have realized it as she was the only really composed one at the time.
28:53 "When the last time you used (the elements)? Wait, is that all the way back in the season 2 premiere?" That was the last time they were used to defeat a villain, but the elements were also utilized to free that same villain (Discord) in season 3, to blast Twilight with Starswirl's spell in the s3 finale, and to summon Discord at the start of season 4.
Well, Twilight told Demon Sunset "The magic contained in my element was able to unite with those that helped create it," and everyone was glowing. Perhaps the cutie-mark laden jewelry that Rarity had made for everyone became impromptu vessels for the other elements (or this world's version of them) in that moment.
Star Swirl admitting he underestimated Friendship(TM)... I mean, she became an Alicorn for figuring out the lack of friendship in his spell. That could have been Prince Star Swirl when you think about it, and she was on the same path before she came to Ponyville.
00:50 You weren't that much wrong ;) 03:35 Yup, that was the greatest set up in the history of this show :) Josh Haber started setting this up as early as in the beginning of season 4, soon after he joined the team of writers. First the Pony of Shadows mentioned in "Castle Mane'ia", then Mage Meadowbrook and her "enchanted items" mentioned in season 5 premiere, and the other legendary ponies mentioned in several other episodes (e.g. Somnambula). Then the legendary ponies have been introduced in those legends in "Campfire Tales" and "Daring Done". And now all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together :) 04:37 When it comes to research and book reading, you chose the worst possible pony for your geek-off :D Everypony knows Applejack can't read ;D 05:38 Yeah, when it's about Starswirl, Twilight can read for 3 days straight. But when it's about helping Zecora not to die, she got tired after just a couple of hours :P 06:48 Twilight's trollface when answering this question were just too suspicious, so I checked those runes and it turns out they say "PONI RULES" in Elder Futhark :) Nice little easter egg from the animators ;) 09:06 I like how the stone cracked after that hologram of a shovel hit it. 11:00 "Please excuse the crudity of these models, I didn't have time to build them to scale or to paint them" ;) 11:20 Pinkie doing the limbo while talking about it :) 11:31 Everyone was asking the same question, except Twilight :q 14:06 Indiana Pones :) I mean, he even has a whip as his cutie mark :) 15:07 I'm pretty sure gardening doesn't work that way. Bushes cannot be green inside where the light doesn't come in. 16:33 Technically, it isn't yours either :q It's Flash Magnus's :J 18:30 Well, she would win the race anyway, so... :q 19:58 Why is it that every reacter had do say something about radiation in this scene? :J Not everything that glows must be radioactive. 9,10-bis(phenyletynyl)antracene and luciferin glow green when oxidized. Luminol glows greenish-blue when exposed to UV light. And in this case, the green glowing liquid is just the dissolved glowpaz they were talking about in "Daring Done". 20:33 Maybe because she has a lot of experience with causing trouble by using her magic the wrong way :J 21:56 When Twilight mentioned Starswirl the Bearded for the first time in season 2 ("Luna Eclipsed"), and then kept mentioning it throughout later seasons, would you believe that you will see him in flesh one day? :J 22:30 That's a really cool and very detailed animation :>
24:46 "Sorry, I forgot my blue pill..." :J 28:21 SENPAI! @_@ 29:29 Nice, you remembered that! :> 29:36 Oh, Twilight, you had no idea... :P You should have read that book... 29:44 Don't ask :D Those are from previous generations ;) (shoo-be-doo! shoo-shoo-be-doo! :J ) 31:33 Rainbow Dash found a cider drinking buddy :) Ships anypony? :> 32:25 Fluttershy, you're not Marble ;J 33:25 SENPAI NOTICED ME!! @∇@ 33:55 Starlight feeling offended :> 35:02 The Hunchback from Notre Damme and Esmeralda? :g 35:10 Stygian = gloomy and dark, infernal, hellish, from the name of the river Styx located in ancient Greek mythological underworld. 39:12 The Well of Shame? :) 43:53 Mist Mane approves ;) 45:45 So what's the second one? Could it be season 4? ;>
Here is my rankings of the songs this season. You know, all five of them. 1. Best Friends Till The End Of Time 2. Flawless 3. Blank Flanks Forever 4. You're In My Head Like A Catchy Song 5. Battle For Sugar Belle
@@nickronca1562 Me too, each part that the mane 6 sings in “At The Gala” is really good. Also I like “A True, True Friend is a Friend in Need” (I think that’s what it’s called)
@@nickronca1562 For me I prefer Flawless over Friends Til The End Of Time But Friends Till The End of Time deserves credit for being catchy and being wholesome and heartwarming But Flawless takes the cake in my book for how catchy and how good each of the mane six members sing their part and the message in the song
@@supersonic2175 Yeah, I already talked about 3 and 4, but between 1 and 2, I like "Best Friends Til The End If Time" better than "Flawless", but like just slightly. They are actually extremely close between the two of them, but Best Friends just has an elegance of simplicity and catchyness in my opinion. But then again, it's just barely above Flawless, because I just barely find it catchier.
@@nickronca1562 Ah okay I understand where your coming from and I really like your opinion but for my tier list of songs I’d Switch 1 and 2 and then switch 3 and 4 and that would be it but it’s nice to hear a different opinion, so that’s nice
@@supersonic2175 Um I like the other three songs better? I mean first off it was between 3 and 4 because the top 2 were always going to be the top two, and between the two of them for 3 and 4, in my opinion the song at number 3 is underrated while "You're In My Head Like a Catchy Song" is overrated. The reason why I feel like it's overrated is because I think for a lot of people who have the song really high up on their list, it is largely because it's Apple Jack's mother specifically who is singing it and it if wasn't her being the one singing it, they will most likely still like the song but won't rank it as high. I'm not saying everyone is like this, but I suspect a lot of people are, and for me personally I very rarely care who is singing something, or how meaningful a song is, I just like songs that I find catchy. And this song certainly has the best vocals of the 5 of them, the 3 songs above it are catchier in my opinion because they are more likely to get stuck in my head so I like them more.
I don't quite understand why I'm seeing so many down here saying that Starsy convinced Scorpan not to rob Equestria of it's magic, when truly it was Scorpan alone who convinced /himself/ not to steal it, appreciating the ways of Equestria, and befriending /Starswirl/ instead of the other way around. This according to the S4 Finale. Thus, in truth, it is entirely plausible- and in fact rather likely- that Starswirl was this way. And considering he met Scorpan after he had reformed himself, it seems likely that he /would/ consider villains unredeemable, never truly having considered Scorpan a villain. With the Sirens, with Stygian after he was consumed by the Shadow, with the Sphinx of Somnambula, the dragons of Flash, Tirek, and likely others I'm forgetting. Truth is, in his time, things as Starlight and Discord were rare, or even possibly non-existent.
...Why in the everliving fuck am I ranting about the comments of others? This isn't important.
I mean she is called "Mage" Meadowbrook, so presumably she knows something about magic. But she was also said to be an "eastern unicorn" and she's clearly and earth pony so...
@@titanhades4331 Twilight made it clear that Meadowbrook only had eight enchanted magical items and that none of them was a staff. Then Starlight herself revealed that the staff was simply a piece of wood she found in the desert.
This finale got me so pissed off the first time i saw it, the way Starswirl and Twilight treated Starlight made my blood boil.(Oh and watch/react to the movie before season 8!)
Totally agree and it seems really out of character on Starswirl's behalf too. After all, he did befriend Scorpan. If any pony believes someone can reform and become a better person it's Starswirl. He was doing that 1000 years before Twilight ever did.
@@grace19005 She did treat Starlight badly, like not appreciating her advice to not do the spell and think twice of what she was doing. Also you should defend your friend no matter what, even against your idol...especially if you are PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP!
Twilight didn't treat her bad, she just didn't want to argue with her idol that's why she stayed quiet when Starswirl was arguing with Starlight and that's what I really like about her character. A lot of people say she's a Mary Sue when she has made tons of mistakes like everyone and this really showed her character flaws (way too obsessed with books, blinded by her idol which we have seen similar cases with her and Celestia as well)
Other than the obvious problems the finale had, it was a really good episode. Looking forward to more reactions, and while season 8 is my least favorite season its still a good season overall. Starswirl was exactly as I envisioned him before I watched this episode it was so cool. Regarding your favorite season, I can understand why you rate season 5(and even 4) slightly higher, for me its a really close call between seasons 5,7 and 9, all those seasons are fantastic(I personally love all the seasons).
Unpopular opinion: the season 7 finale is my least favorite one. I wouldn't say it's bad - there's no such thing as a bad finale in this show - but it lacks this special something which would make it stand out like the finales for all the previous seasons did.
A once benevolent magic user who was tired of being overshadowed by their more powerful companions, so he unleashed forbidden dark magic, changed into a black alicorn-like form with a flowing mane, vowed to shroud the world in darkness, then was banished for centuries, then reformed with the Elements of Harmony? This honestly feels like villain reuse. Also, after the main conflict in the previous two season finales was resolved by trying to understand the other side's point of view and offering guidance, seeing the Mane 6 so readily fall back on rainbow lasers seemed a bit... off.
I will admit the build up for the Pillars throughout the season was amazing, and it's always great to see Starlight contribute to saving the day. I also appreciate the new batch of Tree of Harmony lore. Still, I don't find myself coming back to this two-parter nearly as much as any other one.
That's not unpopular, it's probably the least favorite of most people. The villain doesn't even get that much screen time and barely seems like a threat.
@@thatonewaspatyourpicnic7978 yeah but usually I don't like the energetic/hyper one's in the group like rainbow dash and pinkie pie grew out to be annoying I used to be very energetic and cheerful and always happy but things always dancing and smiling but i changed a bit :c
Starlight: Maybe we should trust that the pillars knew what they were doing? Twilight: Psh... hah... they boomers Starlight. Sunburst: lol... Yeah... were way more advanced now. Starlight: ...
mmh so i wasnt a big fan o this finale i did a list on some things i did not like when it first came out and im just gonna post em again cause eh why not 1. How did that book not get found in those Thousand Years and why is it still undamaged?
2. They studied that Book for 3 Days but Starlight only now decides to read it? Also Sunburst can read Starlights hoofwriting so why couldnt he read Starswirls
3. How did Twilight found those Rock Pillars but no one else ever did and not just that but there seems to be a lot of Information about them even how to use them to go to the Limbo but still no one was ever intreted enough to actually clean up or make it a Tourist Attraction?
4.Why where the Relics all around the World they were used to banish the Pony of Shadows so why did they not also end up in Limbo?
5.That Applejack could kick such a Giant Boulder soo far away is just Bullshit and we all know it
6. Its just a bit dumb that right when Applejack shows up that they find the Relic
7.Raritys didnt even make sense you cant fix a dead Plant by Cutting it and where did all those Flowers come from where they under the dead grass or something and dont tell me she used Magic you can clearly see she is using Garden Tools and that she is dirty afterwords also they had a whole Epsiode about Applejack trying to fix a Garden but Rarity can just fix this giant Garten in just a few Minutes
8.Starswirl could just open up a Portal to EQG for the Sirens but he cant do it for the Pony of Shadows really?
9.Also where is Discord i want to know if Starswirl and Discord know each other (thats more of a me thing rather then a Complaint)
10.Why was Starswirl not at all suprised about Twilight being an Alicorn.
And finally Number 11: Why did Starswirl say you cant befriend a Villain even tho we know for a fact that he befriended Scorpan and reformed him
Also the Villain was completly unimportant and was defeated in the last Minutes which is just stupid. So yay have fun reading my cringe complain list i did years ago but overall i still agree with the points but try not to get too critical with episodes anymore cause when i do it just ruins the episode for me
I did not like the way Starswirl was characterized in this special at all. He's the one who convinced Scorpan to not steal magic and he did it by becoming friends with him. Starswirl would 100% believe in reforming ponies, he was doing it 1000 years before Twilight was even born. If you are going to bring a super important character like Starswirl back you need to do it right and I think the show missed that mark.
Starswirl too. I never got the impression he was this arrogant or mean when previously mentioned in the series. Like the man literally befriended Scorpan, he would totally believe in redemption!
Well, he said he was going to focus on the show only until next year. But there is a Christmas special before season 9 he'll react, plus before it he said he'd check out Very Minty Christmas from G3, as well.
11:48 Actually if Star Swirl The Idiot never made that spell it never would have happened and if he was really a genus then did he not know the time travel with a bad idea? In what form of media was time travel EVER got right? Let me answer that for you NEVER!!!!!!!
I really hated Twilight this episode, even though she's one of my favorite characters, she was fucking annoying throughout the entire episode. She's dumb to not realize that she was going to bring back the pony of shadows. She's also a b*tch for not trying to reform Stigeon and kept following her so called "idol". She's the princess of friendship for peaks sake! She should've learned this long ago after reforming other villains, like wtf?
If anything, Starlight was the one to represent friendship and StarSwirl should’ve given her the credit instead of Twilight. Twilight was blinded by her admiration for StarSwirl, while Starlight’s mind was clear and she turned out to be right not once, but twice!
I’m with you; I hate Twilight in this episode! Along with every pony else. It’s like Starlight Glimmer is the only character with a f**king brain!
Starswirl should be less of a ass to Twilight and respect her since she's a princess! And later on in the video when Starswirl says "once a villain always a villain" what about Discord, Starlight, Sunset, the Changelings and the Sirens.
Yeah, and remember Scorpan? The guy who came to Equestria to steal magic who Starswril HIMSELF BEFRIENDED AND REFORMED??!! No way Starswirl would say that, I feel like the writers forgot Starswirl's own history and lore. That man was reforming villains 1000 years before Twilight ever did!
So, they didn't speak old ponish 1000 years ago, Starswirl was just an elitist who wrote in that language because he liked it

1 like03:35 Yup, that was the greatest set up in the history of this show :) Josh Haber started setting this up as early as in the beginning of season 4, soon after he joined the team of writers. And now all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together :)
04:37 When it comes to research and book reading, you chose the worst possible pony for your geek-off :D Everypony knows Applejack can't read ;D
05:38 Yeah, when it's about Starswirl, Twilight can read for 3 days straight. But when it's about helping Zecora not to die, she got tired after just a couple of hours :P
06:48 Twilight's trollface when answering this question were just too suspicious, so I checked those runes and it turns out they say "PONI RULES" in Elder Futhark :) Nice little easter egg from the animators ;)
09:06 I like how the stone cracked after that hologram of a shovel hit it.

15:07 I'm pretty sure gardening doesn't work that way. Bushes cannot be green inside where the light doesn't come in.
16:33 Technically, it isn't yours either :q It's Flash Magnus's :J
18:30 Well, she would win the race anyway, so... :q
19:58 Why is it that every reacter had do say something about radiation in this scene? :J Not everything that glows must be radioactive. 9,10-bis(phenyletynyl)antracene and luciferin glow green when oxidized. Luminol glows greenish-blue when exposed to UV light. And in this case, the green glowing liquid is just the dissolved glowpaz they were talking about in "Daring Done".
20:33 Maybe because she has a lot of experience with causing trouble by using her magic the wrong way :J
21:56 When Twilight mentioned Starswirl the Bearded for the first time in season 2 ("Luna Eclipsed"), and then kept mentioning it throughout later seasons, would you believe that you will see him in flesh one day? :J

0 likes@@supersonic2175 It's just called "A True, True Friend"
0 likes@@nickronca1562 Me too, each part that the mane 6 sings in “At The Gala” is really good. Also I like “A True, True Friend is a Friend in Need” (I think that’s what it’s called)
0 likes@@supersonic2175 That's also why I like "At The Gala" so much, because of everybody's individual part of the song.
1 like@@nickronca1562 For me I prefer Flawless over Friends Til The End Of Time But Friends Till The End of Time deserves credit for being catchy and being wholesome and heartwarming But Flawless takes the cake in my book for how catchy and how good each of the mane six members sing their part and the message in the song
1 like@@supersonic2175 Yeah, I already talked about 3 and 4, but between 1 and 2, I like "Best Friends Til The End If Time" better than "Flawless", but like just slightly. They are actually extremely close between the two of them, but Best Friends just has an elegance of simplicity and catchyness in my opinion. But then again, it's just barely above Flawless, because I just barely find it catchier.
0 likes@@nickronca1562 Ah okay I understand where your coming from and I really like your opinion but for my tier list of songs I’d Switch 1 and 2 and then switch 3 and 4 and that would be it but it’s nice to hear a different opinion, so that’s nice
0 likes@@supersonic2175 Um I like the other three songs better?

35:32 - "And thus, the Sirens were banished to the most horrible place imaginable... High school!"
0 likesI don't quite understand why I'm seeing so many down here saying that Starsy convinced Scorpan not to rob Equestria of it's magic, when truly it was Scorpan alone who convinced /himself/ not to steal it, appreciating the ways of Equestria, and befriending /Starswirl/ instead of the other way around.

Totally agree and it seems really out of character on Starswirl's behalf too. After all, he did befriend Scorpan. If any pony believes someone can reform and become a better person it's Starswirl. He was doing that 1000 years before Twilight ever did.
2 likesTommi Koistinen poor glimmy :(
3 likes@@grace19005 She did treat Starlight badly, like not appreciating her advice to not do the spell and think twice of what she was doing. Also you should defend your friend no matter what, even against your idol...especially if you are PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP!
4 likesTwilight didn't treat her bad, she just didn't want to argue with her idol that's why she stayed quiet when Starswirl was arguing with Starlight and that's what I really like about her character. A lot of people say she's a Mary Sue when she has made tons of mistakes like everyone and this really showed her character flaws (way too obsessed with books, blinded by her idol which we have seen similar cases with her and Celestia as well)

I think before going into Season 8, you might want to start getting through some of the 'Equestria Girls' specials and shorts.
0 likesUnpopular opinion: the season 7 finale is my least favorite one. I wouldn't say it's bad - there's no such thing as a bad finale in this show - but it lacks this special something which would make it stand out like the finales for all the previous seasons did.
1 likeA once benevolent magic user who was tired of being overshadowed by their more powerful companions, so he unleashed forbidden dark magic, changed into a black alicorn-like form with a flowing mane, vowed to shroud the world in darkness, then was banished for centuries, then reformed with the Elements of Harmony? This honestly feels like villain reuse. Also, after the main conflict in the previous two season finales was resolved by trying to understand the other side's point of view and offering guidance, seeing the Mane 6 so readily fall back on rainbow lasers seemed a bit... off.
I will admit the build up for the Pillars throughout the season was amazing, and it's always great to see Starlight contribute to saving the day. I also appreciate the new batch of Tree of Harmony lore. Still, I don't find myself coming back to this two-parter nearly as much as any other one.
