One of the subtlest parts of the episode is actually one of the darkest moments in the whole show. During the fight against the Buzzard Wasps, when Aang hunts down the one that stole MoMo, he rescues him but then proceeds to decapitate the wasp. It's hard to see unless on a big screen but it's a very impactful detail. Aang has always been one to fight only in self defense and to never directly kill if there's another way. It goes against the traditions of the Air Nomads to ever take a life or even be violent, though the Avatar does need to have some violence for the sake of protection and defense. But here you have a Wasp that has accepted defeat and is flying away in humility, but Aang decides it's not enough and gruesomely slices it's head off 30 feet away while there is no longer any danger towards himself nor MoMo. His grief has completely overtaken his empathy, and his determination over his caution, care, and honour.
That ending scene when Aang just loses it with the Avatar State is one of the most dramatic moments of this series. A lot of people including myself get goosebumps from this scene, especially when Aang spoke furiously while in the Avatar State. Even the music had a hand in making us feel the weight of the situation when Katara tried to calm Aang down. Great reaction btw!
Remember the episode in season 1 with the pirates, where Iroh was trying to get a replacement for his missing Lotus tile in his Pai Sho. This episode shows why it was so important.
Katara isn’t the rock that the gaang needs, she’s the cool drink of water that Aang needs… most importantly, she is the calming influence on the avatar.
