@Super Sonic let's just say I have very strong hatred towards season 3 of MLP not every episode is bad but 8 of the 13 are all in my top 20 worst episode of MLP
@Stormshadow Productions Jeez that's a bold claim mlp wasn't even bad hear that's just kinda untrue I'm all for opinions but saying mlp is at its worst hear is kinda just a bit wrong (I'm not saying you can't have your opinion just saying its kinda a bold claim to say that but you do you its your opinion)
Cuz, gender roles. Also some of the staff said before that they felt spike wouldn’t fit into the show, but the writers and such changed that over time.
This episode has a reputation of being the weakest of S3, for understandable reasons. I don’t necessarily care for the fact that Spike was poorly written, given that he’s supposed to be very good at what he does (cleaning, baking, etc.), this was just one of those out of character scenarios I suppose. I still look on the bright side of this episode though, there are some moments that are worthy of a chuckle or two and to me, that’s what keeps this episode afloat. In other words, it’s alright.
You may or may not have picked this up, but the scene with Spike throwing a rock into the Timberwolf's mouth is a reference to the Biblical story of David and Goliath, with a few differences.
Spike losing social awareness and basic motor skills: the episode.
What could have been a very good episode is now sitting at the bottom of the list. Simply put, every M6 is written great here but Spike isn't. I still enjoy it for everything besides Spike though.
11:10 Rarity: "Oh what I wouldn't give to have somepony forever in my debt." Will: "I'll be in your debt." If by "debt" you mean crotch, then yes. You probably would be. :)
As SpacialRend7 already said, this was one of those situations where the writer kinda dropped the ball. "Character loses all knowledge of how to function for comedy reasons" is one of those things that happens occasionally and annoys the hell out of me, but it's not that big a deal.
Being that this show was usually racist against dragons it was nice to see they at least know dragon value honor here Spike associates being a dragon with the honor of honoring a life debt, and later in gauntlet of fire Ember doesn't give Spikes friends away presumably because Spike had just saved her life so honor forbade it.
This is one of my least favorite episodes because of how cliche it is. The "life debt" trope has been done to death in so many shows, has a very predictable formula, and this episode didn't really do anything unique with it. Still really enjoyed the reaction, though.
While probably the weakest episode of the weakest season, it's still the best Spike episode until like Season 5. It doesn't stand on cringe comedy, and it doesn't revolve around humiliating him, rather showing the honourable side of him and - despite having him written weakly - making him more likable.
I don’t hate it, but there’s little for me to like about it also. It’s just meh for me. Not awful, but close to the bottom of my list given the average quality of episodes in this show is just much higher.
Definitely wouldn't call it the worst overall, I can name at least 3 episodes that are worse, but it is indeed in the bottom of most lists (including mine).

38 likesA question many people have been asking about this episode for years.
No one's ever come up with a good answer for that.

Maybe earth ponies trade with griffons? Or perhaps it's pet chow for the cats, dogs, and baby alligators?

@The Black Queen For third, David never been known for being a dragon.

2 likesI didn't like this episode. Spike comes off as stupid. The premise is confusing. The timberwolfs are pretty cool.

Largely regarded as one of the worst, if not, THE worst episode of the series. It may vary now but it's still down there.
