tip: Never clean without music!

My top tip: when organising your stuff, pile it all on top of your bed. Because you can't go to sleep until your room is fully clean x

What do you do if you've moved into a flat, you've got two vacuum cleaners but no vacuum cleaner bags? Both you and your housemate are too lazy/confused about how the vacuum cleaner works so you've given up and restored to sweeping. You know it's not the best option but the adventure of finding out how to work the vacuum cleaner seems too daunting. 

I'm asking for a friend. :P

You didn't mention this: don't be afraid to donate things that you don't need. Get rid of it. You bought a pair of floral jeans that you've never worn? Donate them. You have a pile of books that you tried to read but all had cringey one dimensional characters? Bye bye! You have books that you have read and /kind of/ enjoyed but you're never gonna read them again? Goodbye!

Open a window, something about fresh air blowing through the room whilst the tunes are blaring really helps me get stuff done. In between the stupid dancing and placing every hat, hair band and random animal ears I find on my head :)

I like cleaning while listening to Disney (movie) music. Then I can dance and sing while I clean so it kind of feels like I'm in a musical instead of in reality.

I get overwhelmed and panic and don't know where to start, so I just end up not doing the thing at all and feeling like crap. I had on a playlist of your songs whilst cleaning my room (which since being redecorated has only got more messier?? logic) and then I check and see you've posted this. I love the idea of using mugs as pots, I went to B&M and got some vintage mugs for cheap and put make up brushes, pens and paint brushes in them and it just makes the room look so much better. This is actually exactly how I clean my room, except there is no way I can go through all of my drawers without stopping to look through things I forgot I had.

Also fairy lights look awesome anywhere if you want your room to feel more cozy. I have pretty snowflake ones in mine and some witchy bell ones :))

top tip; make your bed first as it makes the room look automatically cleaner and it gives you room to pile:) also i pile but then i gets late so i just shove things out of the way and ten my room is a mess again lol cus i never get the time to put the piles away lol

Dodie you are literally describing my bed room(especially with the clothes ) !!! I always just put my mess into piles and then move the piles around to make myself think that I am tidying ....

This is exactly how I clean my room haha :)

for those lacking motivation (like me), station your phone somewhere you can see the majority of your room through the camera and record a time-lapse. the end product of a nice video can be more of a motivation than an actual clean room, and it's worked for me when my room was a complete mess.

If your room is SUPER messy, like mine, here's my steps. Because, if not now, then when? If you've been saying, "tomorrow" For two months, maybe you have to do it at 2am like I'm going to.

Here's my steps! (If I'm feeling super unmotivated I do each step and take 5-10 minutes off and go back again) :

1. All bedding goes on your bed. Whether it's old sheets, stuffed animals and pillows, or that pile of blankets you still haven't cleaned up, shove it on your bed and get it up off the floor.

2. Take out any food or dishes. Extra points if you actually put the food away and wash the dishes/put them in to dishwasher.

3. All clothes in a big pile. If they're dirty put them in one pile or in a basket and if they're clean put them in a pile on a chair or something.

4. Get a trash bag and put all your visible trash in it. Wrappers, unwanted papers, tissues, whatever. Put that bag by your door when you're done.

5. Identify the last 3 big activities/projects you did that made a mess and dedicate a bin or pile to it. Put everything if each category into said bin/pile.

6. If you have a desk/shelf or something and it's cluttered or messy in the slightest, go clean it up. Put everything into little piles and find little bins and drawers to put it in. Don't shove everything into bins. Put it in there strategically. Example:
Art supplies - painting stuff in a bin, drawing stuff in a bin, sewing stuff in a bin, etc.

7. Clean up your floor. If there's still stuff all over your floor, or it's still just kinda messy at all, map out your room into like 4 or 5 sections and pick up each one. That way you don't lose motivation or focus just looking at a huge mess. If you have piles of clothes from step 2 or something like that, leave that alone, though.

8. Reduce items on shelves or surfaces. Take your trash bag and try to throw away as much stuff as possible. If you haven't used a thing in over six months, don't hold on to it. I personally get super attached and sentimental towards everything, so I know how hard it can be. But that birthday card you got from your aunt 3 months ago? Toss it.

9. Pick out random pieces of furniture from your room and clear it out using your trash bag too. Every desk drawer. I'm serious, don't skip a drawer if you're really deep cleaning.

10. By now it should be looking a lot better, so let's do something with those piles from earlier. Get another trash bag or clear a space for piles, and go through all of your clothes. If you have a lot, go through shorts, pants, shirts, jackets and hoodies, pajamas, shoes, socks and underwear, and so on. Toss everything into a bag that you don't want or need and give it to your parents or something for them to donate or sell. And if you don't live with your parents, donate or sell them too. An article of clothing should serve at least one of two purposes, ideally both. It should serve a purpose, and bring you joy. A sweater doesn't serve much of a purpose if you live in Arizona, but if it makes you happy to wear around the house, keep it.

11. Look around and look for small problem areas. If there's still clutter in the corner of your room, go clean that one area. If there's a ton of trash under your bed, go clean there. Etc, etc.

12. Wipe down your surfaces. Clear them off completely, and wipe them down. Especially now, (2020, in the COVID-19 pandemic if you're in the future) we need to remember to wipe things down.

13. Vacuum. Go get your vacuum and just have at it. Vacuum your chair, your bed, your floor, everywhere. Go for those little crumbs and broken hair ties.

14. Make your bed. Change your sheets, spray them down with Febreze or something, and change your pillowcase. Random tip, if you have acne, change your pillowcase often. It'll help a lot.

15. Finish picking up those piles. Put things into bins, drawers, or onto shelves. Make sure they're organized.

16. (Bonus) Decorate or relax. Now that your room is clean, put up those decorations you bought last year. Open that lamp you got for Christmas. Or just lay on your bed and watch YouTube. If you've been in a bad state of mind, or procrastinating this, feel proud. You finally did it! Good job!

Here’s a tip! Clean your room little by little. Clean one category and take a break for 5 minuets or so then clean another category, this will motivate you to actually clean instead of sitting in the pile of “rubbish” on your floor! Hope this helps!

my top cleaning tip is to ignore everything that's messy until I feel like panicking from having no space.  And then thoroughly clean everything.  Preferably if it's really late and you were going to go to sleep, but know you can't sleep until everything's off the floor.  and that's how you clean like a pro.

I love cleaning and reorganizing my room. About to do that today actually. I have a Swiffer duster(for fans and high places), a micro fiber duster(for electronics and so on), a broom, a dust pan, a large shopping bag to throw things away in, and a nice music playlist at the ready. Already had a cup of coffee, so don't really have a reason to put it off...other than one more episode of Gilmore Girls first. (^_^)  

I would like to take the time to be completely honest. I've been seeing you in a lot of people's videos not knowing who you are, and finding it hard to identify with you. Now that I have come to your channel, I couldn't be happier that I did. You're ADORABLE. And have so much talent and lovely tips. No wonder you're in everyone's videos! People must love you! I really wanted to comment this because I wanted to remind people to keep an open mind when watching people's videos. I didn't really know you so I didn't "like" seeing you in other people's videos, but I took the time to find out who you are as a person, and I have to say I'm impressed (and stupid for misjudging you for five seconds in someone eles's video) Please keep doing what you're doing because you're doing it well.

I keep all the cards I get from friends and family in a special drawer in case we grow apart for nostalgia or a family member dies and I have something nice to hold onto

Tip: If you're like me and have a hard time getting rid of stuff do it over a few days. Something you couldn't quite get rid of one day may be easier to get rid of the next when you've had time to really decide if it's worth keeping. I've been slowly getting rid of more and more junk that I was only keeping for sentimental reasons. It's also easier to do once you've gotten started getting rid of stuff. It feels wonderful and refreshing. For me anyways. :)

This will come in handy for me to tidy my room tomorrow

TOP TIP: go through all your clothes and chuck the stuff you haven't worn for a while! You'll be surprised how much you get rid of.
Also check bags that you might not have emptied after going on trips!

PUT BIGGER THINGS ON THE BED! (i.e. a chair, a printer, a table, a rug etc) That way you can hoover places you couldn't previously touch and it gets those dust patches that cumulate around the edges of things :D might be fairly obvious but might help others tooooo <3

Watching this as I have friend coming to visit me at uni for the weekend and they're arriving tomorrow and my room is such a tip xD So true about the clothes, especially when I need to ACTUALLY leave my building and walk for 5 minutes to go wash dirty clothes at the launderette :P

I cleaned out my room at the start of this year to have a fresh start to 2015,ended up with two and a half large bin bags worth of rubbish and old and broken toys etc,well worth it! I also put up new shelves to help organise my stuffs :3

Cleaning tip:
Step 1: Go to your subscription box on youtube 
Step 2: Watch ONE video from your fav youtuber
Step 3: Clean for the amount of minutes the video was long
Step 4: Repeat
Then it won't feel like you are cleaning - and you'll get a good idea of how much you can do in 3,02 minutes ;)

i find its easy to have a mini clean up every two weeks or so to stop its getting ridiculously messy, that helps a lot (especially if ur lazy and ur excuse for not cleaning is it will take all day)

I remove the clothes and other stuff from any surface visible and wipe it all down. If I'm feeling brave my clothes will go in two piles: keep and donate/throw away. I rearrange just about everything I own and then move it back because I liked it better before and it all looks weird and I freak out. There you go that's how I clean my room. I loved this video! I'm a very bad cleaner, I think mainly because I still live with my parents and so they usually do it for me because I'm a spoilt brat, but I'm moving out this autumn which is terrifying by the way. My best cleaning tip though is to sort through all your stuff (CLOTHES INCLUDED) at least twice a year, only keep the things you use or need or really really like, and try not to own too many similar things, like you don't need five low-cut leather boots, you don't need four winter coats, etc. This is especially handy if you live in a dorm room or a smaller flat because you don't have a lot of space and it's not like you're gonna live there for 30 years so there's not much r0om for hoarding useless crap. 
(I have a friend who didn't clean out her dorm room in the entire first three years she went to uni so moving out was a massive ordeal, it took us five hours to sort through all her stuff, DON'T HOARD IF YOU LIVE IN A DORM ROOM)

Haha this is the sort of video I needed on youtube...The only time I ever tidy my room properly is when two of my best friends come round who are both allergic to cats and I don't want them to, you know, die. And I have this strange feeling that when my mum wants my room tidied, she subtly says something like 'Oh you've been working quite hard, are you thinking of possibly having friends round this weekend?' in hope that I'll sort my life out. As for tips...be as ruthless with it as possible aha, chuck stuff in the bin so quickly and without any thought, then, you'll forget what's gone. AND play music to make it loads of fun, chuck things in the bin to the beat...have a little dance. Great video Dodie xx

Topic idea: a good one could be how to have a creative space in your room (for example if you do audio or video or writing).

Old soft toys, clothes and even stationary could make someone else very happy so when clearing out your room, minimise waste and donate as much as you can! (Not just to thrift stores, but to charities, drives, etc :) )

i cleaned my room before watching this but what i realised was that the (almost) main thing for me is that things weren't where they were supposed to be so i put everything where they belonged, sweeped mopped the floor and now(maybe not now but like Most Of The Time) the floor is clean and nice to walk on

A way to make it go faster is listening to music. Make a playlist before you start so you don't try to change the song and get distracted.

Storage tip- Ikea used to (probably still do) (hopefully still do) these storage pots that hang off of a bar you put on your wall. I currently have my makeup brushes in one and need to sort out the other three because I don't even know what's in them.

(Obviously this won't work if you're in rented accommodation... Unless your landlord is okay with you drilling holes into your walls for storage pots.)
