I can agree that this had the most meh song of the series. This episode overall is fairly sub par, but definitely not the worst in the series. Rainbow's cheering at the end was cute tho ^^
7:37 "Hell yeah, Derpy! Good job." First she stole Applejack's episode in season 2, then she stole Rainbow Dash's episode in season 4. Now, we find out she stole Rarity's spotlight years ago! :D
While i was watching this reaction cheerilee in that cheerleader outfit came up as one of my rotating backgrounds on my 2nd monitor good timing. You can find lots of fan art for her in that outfit :P really enjoy your reacts.
I love how RainbowDash , Rarity and Applejack learnt a valuable lesson and the scene at the end where they were all chilling was cute. And that was after the scene when they all were in their mechanic outfits. It's so not like Rarity to wear that sort of outfit but that's ones of the things that makes her likable.
Every time I watch this it would of been nice to see the CMC's go with each others sisters. Like scoots go with rarity , applebloom go with RD and sweetie with AJ . Ofc If that happened the episode wouldn't of existed lol but they could of at least ended it like that.
19:02 confirmed, derpy’s child is a colt and not a filly. Unless that’s derpy’s younger brother, nephew, or she simply had another child. Or she just decided to help this random colt....
The title is a play on the old phrase "Putting the cart before the Horse" whis means planning to do something further ahead than what is logically the first step you should take. IE, planning a road trip before you even have your driverse licence. For example. In fact there's a great phillosophical joke using the term:
A horse walks into a bar and orders five beers. The bartender asks, "Wouldn't that make you an alcoholic?" To which the horse replies, "I don't think I am." And suddenly the horse vanishes. You see this joke relies on the knowledge of the famous phrase by philosopher Rene Descartes who came up with the term "I think therefore I am." So since the horse didn't think he was, he ceased to exist. I could have explained this at the start but that would have been...
This episode had some unfortunate implications for me, leading me to not like it so much. It was established in no uncertain terms that these carts were for them, so they were either too dumb to know, or too self-obsessed to care. Either way, not a fan of this one.
But still, I gladly would put up with all this episode's faults 100 times over just to see Cheerilee in that cheerleader outfit! I mean, come on! How couldn't I?
@@fusionomni305 I don't entirely disagree with you. There's definitely been episodes where events clearly push the limits of the currently established personality of various characters, for better or worse. I think it tends to fall on the individual how okay they are with that.
I think we also need to accept that this is a cartoon show that will intentionally push characters for the sake of comedy and entertainment.
I also think that acting nasty towards friend/family when competitiveness takes hold isn't entirely unrealistic either. Even the nicest of people can turn quite nasty when they become too involved in competition.
@@EuroMIX2 I never said it was unreasonable for characters to have flaws. In fact, they should. They'd be boring if they were all perfect. The thing is that the flaws have to make sense, and especially not be contradictory to their strengths. I realize that Applejack, as well a other characters, may do things outside their comfort zone, but denouncing family over refusal to uphold tradition is borderline sociopathic, and used as a manipulation tactic in abusive relationships.
Applejack is a character that they had a hard time writing for throughout the series. When they touch on her flaws, they usually exaggerate said flaws to an extreme. Probably because she is the character of the mane six that is most happy with her position in life. She has been doing what she loved as a filly since the day she got her mark and has had arguably the fewest amount of personal goals since. In that sense, her character development is mostly complete by episode 1.
When I believe a character has gone too far, your defense is what I usually hear, the case that a character has to have flaws. Despite this being a misrepresentation of my argument, I do have a response to this. This may sound ridiculous, but there is a point to it, so play along here. Imagine if Twilight threw a temper tantrum because she lost her ice cream, vaporizes a puppy and wipes out a village in anger, and at the end she feels bad about it, apologizes, her friends forgive and forget, and it was shrugged off as "nobody is perfect". This is obviously an extreme side of things, and I'm not saying you would argue this. Most would definitely say that that goes too far if it did theoretically happen. So, what I want to do is "increment" it. Imagine a scenario slightly less extreme than that, and an extreme slightly less extreme than that, and so on and so forth. At what exact point does it cross the line to being too far for a character? That line is very hard to draw, and everyone has their own idea of where it is. The strawman argument of "A character has to have flaws" is very common", although I don't think that they actually believe that the other person thinks characters shouldn't have flaws. I think it's just a knee jerk reaction.
Wow sorry. I didn't realize how long I was going. Maybe I should talk about this in a forum instead.
@@fusionomni305 I mean the writers have always struggled to give Applejack character development or have episodes that rely on her flaws since she was made a little too perfect in season 1 and her only real flaw (being too proud to ask for help) was solved early on. In fact she's one of the only characters to get the "I was right all along" ending.
You sort of have to accept that the writers have to write in flaws for Applejack in order to keep her interesting.
As I said, this is a case of a parent getting too passionate about something their child is doing and making it more about them than the actual kid. Applejack is very into tradition so I could totally see her being unwilling to try something outside of her comfort zone. We saw the same thing in Hearthbreakers.
@@EuroMIX2 I do believe that the issue is real. I just don't believe that Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash specifically would do so in this manner, if at all. I mean, Applejack basically said that if Apple Bloom didn't build a cart the way Applejack wanted, she's not part of the family. That is going way too far, and I don't really believe that Applejack would make such a notion, given everything we know about her character.
I like the episode because it show the very real effect of adults projecting their desires onto children and forcing them to do things their way, even if it's supposed to be the child's work/passion on display.
This is by far my least favorite episode because Rarity Apple jack and Rainbow Dash are so caught up in what they want they ignore what the CMCs want. And it's their carts. The whole way Rarity , Applejack and Rainbow Dash act in this episode is like season one stuff.
Of the three, I think Applejack and Rarity were the worst with their obliviousness. Rainbow at least showed moments in which she acknowledged it as Scootaloo's cart. She just assumed that Scootaloo wanted it still to win, which is the point of a race. But Rarity was bluntly doing this for herself, and Applejack outright dismissed Applebloom's desire for it to be fast as if her opinion not only didn't matter, but was supposedly blasphemous simply for not being what the Apples usually do.
In all honesty, those two are my least favourites of the mane 6 and this episode showcases their worst traits that rank them that low on my list. Applejack has too much stubborn pride that often portrays her dialogue as superior and more than often feels like an Applejack family commercial whenever she talks about the apples. Rarity is better but somehow failed at her element here. She just tends to be one dimensional in her talk of fashion and just represents that anti-traditional attitude that I just can't really respect in many people.
I guess it's ironic that they are both my least favourites despite them being polar opposites.
I actually not that fond of this episode, given how . . . ehhhhh . . . everypony was acting in it. Still, it had some good moments, especially that freaking cheerleading Cheerimilf!
18:30 , yes it is, it could have ended in only 1 possible way...The song is weird, and while the episode is not bad its not a good one either I would say.
I still find it funny that Derpy’s kart won a prize instead of Rarity. Of course, I kinda felt bad for her as well.
