While this already was mentioned in other comments, before you run out and put an unknown bios password on your computer. Keep in mind many newer motherboards keep the bios password separate from the settings. So removing the battery will not save you in all cases

I was going to say that MSI boards do not keep the BIOS password in memory so the CMOS reset will not work. You either have to remember it or you are screwed.

The downside is that you may have to re-configure some BIOS settings for optimization purposes or for personal preferences (like the boot sequence, optical first, local drive first, etc.) Therefore it’s generally a good idea to check these things once in a while if possible before the need arises to remove the battery (which also comes in handy when the battery simply fails.)

The video is a bull-sheet - he has marked that the password resides in rom/flash nand or nor - so it is note kept by a CMOS battery... the bios settings are in cmos memory. Dont try that it wont help at current machines :) - BTW, Acer is a sheet laptop alas - Medion in Germany.

A word of warning, resetting the bios battery on some laptops will not reset the bios password and might trigger a lock down, this is normally due to some laptops based on manufacture unique information storing the password data in other location(s) on the main board, so always check before trying, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

Locate the CMOS jumper by referring to the motherboard manual and how to clear the CMOS. In general, the CMOS jumper is three pins located near the battery. In general, CMOS jumper has positions 1–2 and 2–3. Move the jumper from the default position 1–2 to position 2–3 to clear CMOS.

Good video, but some computer have a flash chip to store passwords. Getting those passwords reset is way more harder or sometimes even impossible. In this case the only way is to buy a new mainboard.

In certain laptops the CR2032 is very easily accessible - You may find it in the socket near the dedicated service port, or underneath the main battery.
I used something like this, but I used Dogbert’s tools at first (try them, they’re good for older computers!) and then when those didn’t work weirdly for a almost vintage laptop from HP, I just unplugged the CMOS battery for a bit and reassembled the machine and it worked again :)
Sometimes BIOS Password can be written in EEPROM, EEPROMs are non volatile. They don't need power to keep their data and removing battery you will just reset time and date, but not password and settings.
Be warned that some laptops like Thinkpads and Macs(pre-T2, those actually save it on the T2 chip) actually save their passwords on the BIOS chip itself or another flash chip, meaning that the password will NOT be reset if you take out the CMOS battery/disconnect the battery(some laptops don't have the 3.3V battery and use the main one for the CMOS)
Some brand name computers you need to move a jumper that's on the motherboard (like master/cable select on older ide hdds). I've had to do this for a HP AIO machine to fix up a customers mistake. Maybe you can show this in another video. Opening the PC requires pry tools to pop off the back panel so its a different experience
Some preassembled PCs like Lenovo ThinkCentre for instance, have a BIOS reset jumper. Just change the position of the jumper, turn it on once, wait for 2 continuous beeps, turn it off and return the jumper back to its original position, and turn on. Boom! Your BIOS password will be reset.

Some PCs with TPM cannot clear the firmware password by discharging the CMOS. Just pull the TPM out if it is removable, or desolder it by a heat gun. But like AMD Ryzen PRO SoCs for business use, this is an integrated part, which is impossible to do so.
Yep, CMOS battery is the function of the brain that allows storing custom BIOS settings, including date and time, boot order, and so on, even if the computer is powered off for longer periods, but if CMOS battery were to fail, the brain function won't work, causing memory loss.
This won't work if your laptop's the newer "fancier" kind that stores the password in an EEPROM or flash memory and only has one main battery that it also runs the clock from. Removing the main battery or fully discharging it will only reset the clock on those. You'd either have to reprogram the EEPROM or contact support for those.
or to reset a bios password you can browse the web to search the bios supervisor password generator and you can generate the supervisor password instead of the methods shown in the video
we had in school some pcs with first bootoption to boot from external media the bios was pass protected but who need to reset the pass when you can just boot into whaterever you want

Starting the pc wthout the battery is I don't think necessary. When I reseted my BIOS, around 4 times, I've never started the pc without the battery. I removed the battery, waited 5 minutes, and put back the battery, and turned on the pc, with a new, fresh, BIOS.
This does not work on Optiplex 3020 motherboard. I purchased this machine on eBay and it came with a locked BIOS. It won't even let me reflash the bios without the password 🤦

Yeah but it works only when the BIOS password is saved on a power-dependent memory, if its stored on a power-independent memory, which is often the case by modern PCs - it will bring nothing.
But on newer motherboards, password stored on separate chip independently not powered by CMOS battery. On these computers, motherboard should go to the service unless trick that I don't know is discovered.
Here to also say this won't work for all PCs; at the start you showed an Acer laptop, and in which I had to reset the CMOS for my Acer laptop just the other day (for unrelated reasons, the bios bugged out :v) and it still had a password, despite the rest of the settings (and even the time) being reset.

Not really possible, this is UEFI, and you have a BIOS. UEFI is basically a newer BIOS with a better interface, but some other stuff also changed. In fact you would need to reinstall windows alone if you even could swap from BIOS to UEFI, which is not possible on a laptop as far as i know.
My OLD one has a more complex steps yoo just look for the toshiba satellite A-215 Pin a random trace behind of the ram port to ground while powering on and reset and configure the bios This is cuz the password is stored in a non volatile chip or something like that xd

Nice video, but how about a CMOS reset on an "ultrasecure" HP buisness notebook? I have a HP EliteBook 8570p from a company, and the prevorious owner don't know the dumb BIOS Password. I already tried to replace the battery, but it didn't helped. As i powered it on without the CMOS battery in , it said: "resetting settings to default" and rebooted. It resetted everything except the Password. I read in the internet but the only methods i found were replacing the battery or replacing the entire BIOS chip. Bonus for today is/was an OMG for me, a nice X99a motherboard and one of my two BIOS has an administrator password which I only found out recently, it was a second hard motherboard a few years ago and I never had need to use the other BIOS till I changed my CPU, now an i7-6850X .. so I can flash one bios, I can even switch while the machine is turned on and flash the other bios but the password remained so I had a brave and smart idea, why not enter bios on the one without a password and then switch live while in bios to use the other chip and then set a password.. did that still have a computer so now time to reboot into the password protected bios and there I get to a password prompt, OK enter the new 'password' yup its 'password' dont want to forget that now do I. Oh I am in, but I had to enter both admin and user password. so lets remove the password so I entered 'password' and made a mistake a couple of times then saw it was password then new password to which I pressed enter!!!! Whoop Whoop no more bios passwords on either of the dual bioses.. that really did not take a long time and this information is NOT on the Internet 😉 shush, keep it a secret and dont tell anyone!

1 likeA word of warning, resetting the bios battery on some laptops will not reset the bios password and might trigger a lock down, this is normally due to some laptops based on manufacture unique information storing the password data in other location(s) on the main board, so always check before trying, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

Sometimes there's a motherboard jumper as well to clear the password/reset BIOS settings

0 likesBe warned that some laptops like Thinkpads and Macs(pre-T2, those actually save it on the T2 chip) actually save their passwords on the BIOS chip itself or another flash chip, meaning that the password will NOT be reset if you take out the CMOS battery/disconnect the battery(some laptops don't have the 3.3V battery and use the main one for the CMOS)

I've had to do this for a HP AIO machine to fix up a customers mistake. Maybe you can show this in another video. 1 likeSome preassembled PCs like Lenovo ThinkCentre for instance, have a BIOS reset jumper. Just change the position of the jumper, turn it on once, wait for 2 continuous beeps, turn it off and return the jumper back to its original position, and turn on. Boom! Your BIOS password will be reset.

This won't work if your laptop's the newer "fancier" kind that stores the password in an EEPROM or flash memory and only has one main battery that it also runs the clock from. Removing the main battery or fully discharging it will only reset the clock on those. You'd either have to reprogram the EEPROM or contact support for those.

0 likesStarting the pc wthout the battery is I don't think necessary. When I reseted my BIOS, around 4 times, I've never started the pc without the battery. I removed the battery, waited 5 minutes, and put back the battery, and turned on the pc, with a new, fresh, BIOS.

Just install some sort of graphical interface with pacman (like plasma, gnome, xfce) and then enable it using systemctl. You can check the arch wiki.

Basically, it's a password that is asked at boot. It is very effective as it will not load any os until you get it right.

Not really possible, this is UEFI, and you have a BIOS. UEFI is basically a newer BIOS with a better interface, but some other stuff also changed.

I already tried to replace the battery, but it didn't helped. As i powered it on without the CMOS battery in , it said: "resetting settings to default" and rebooted. It resetted everything except the Password. I read in the internet but the only methods i found were replacing the battery or replacing the entire BIOS chip. I know that there's a method with SMC.BIN, but HP didn't offer this anymore. Is there any solution to fix that?

0 likesBonus for today is/was an OMG for me, a nice X99a motherboard and one of my two BIOS has an administrator password which I only found out recently, it was a second hard motherboard a few years ago and I never had need to use the other BIOS till I changed my CPU, now an i7-6850X
0 likes.. so I can flash one bios, I can even switch while the machine is turned on and flash the other bios but the password remained so I had a brave and smart idea, why not enter bios on the one without a password and then switch live while in bios to use the other chip and then set a password.. did that still have a computer so now time to reboot into the password protected bios and there I get to a password prompt, OK enter the new 'password' yup its 'password' dont want to forget that now do I. Oh I am in, but I had to enter both admin and user password. so lets remove the password so I entered 'password' and made a mistake a couple of times then saw it was password then new password to which I pressed enter!!!! Whoop Whoop no more bios passwords on either of the dual bioses.. that really did not take a long time and this information is NOT on the Internet 😉 shush, keep it a secret and dont tell anyone!
