I heard this song via Versus Ponyville on Team Fortress 2 as Octavia's theme and immediately fell in love with it! I guess some people were just born to duet.

I love this song and I do think it should be on the radio.

i always love the songs that feature both Vinyl Scratch and Octavia. two totally different styles that work so well together.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, your combination of Cello and Dubstep blends together perfectly. The Dubstep went together smoothly. The cello did the same. I personally think you do just fin at it. This wasn't the "bad music" you described it to be. Instead it turned out to be a very intriguing and memorable tune. Keep up the good work as always.

Don't know what it is about these two but no matter what they have have made some of the best song out there.

Dude, awesome. Wish I had some of these pics for my Tavy/Scratch folder. Music was great, you don't give yourself enough credit in the techno department. Its not technically impressive but it manages to sound good with the CELLO. I can only say I wish I could give this the views it deserves. @Torqito Yes I in fact always knew it was a cello. Having both a contrabass and cello AND sousaphone in an ensemble would be very muddy. Hence Octavia was playing the cello in a more melodious fashion. Also, all one needs to do is look at the tuning pegs for the clear answer.

In everything I've hear, admittedly not much, I have never heard a blending of two things as different as cello and techno, and you've pulled it off wonderfully.

@psychgoth dude, i never really told you how amazing this is, ive listened to it like 13,546 times. its probably my favorite song coming from MLP, if you can, get in touch with people like agiledash, Pinkiepieswear, wooden toaster, etc. youre better than them, but they still might have a few pointers, even when i personally am good at something i still like tips and hints every now and then so i would imagine you would too

@mckayr12 Hey there, sorry I took a bit to get to you. I had absolutely no inspiration when I wrote this song, I just did whatever came to me at the time. Thus it is truly a happy accident that many people liked it. I actually looked at many musical descriptions to find a name for this piece and settled on allegretto because it is kinda fast. Also, my favorite Scratch/Octavia fanfic is called Allegrezza.

"There's no way this thing should pass up Flutterwonder." Except it does more than that. This song takes Flutterwonder and it kills it, kicks it, curbstomps it, and then lights it on fire.

@mrmantacos In the Gala song it's a cello you hear though. And it plays about an octave above the sousaphone. In the low register the only things that really sound nice together are Fifths, octaves, and maybe fourths. Precisely for the reason that sound is muddles easily down there.

Son, I am proud. Your dubstep has improved a lot. However, the more trance-like parts were still the best. While the drop is pretty good, it kind of comes out of nowhere half way through the song. You have to build up to a drop. This is like a dubstep drive-by. Also, while cello and most techno mix very well, dubstep and cello do not. Regardless of this, I really liked the song and I hope to see more like it in the future.

I'm pickin' up a little vibe of msi-type stuff in the song, especially around 1:40. Tell me: did it influence you at all when writing this? Just outta curiosity.

@TheDumbRock No no, I think it is very very very very very (cont.) hard to marry orchestral and dubstep music together. They are somewhat of an antithesis to each other. Even Nero had problems with it.

@ninjainthebasement Why thank you basementninja. I agree, my dubstep skillz kill in the wrong way O_O. I love the way it comes out of nowhere, kinda random and surprising as it were. In the final version I plan to have a voice actress say a line like, "*sigh* Vinyl Scratch..." to announce her and initiate the drop. Also note I did not use the cello during the drop so I don't know why you brought that up.

To be honest, I actually enjoy most of VInyl's music now, but don't tell anypony!

@Yay295 Awesome complaints lol. I am sorry if the cello sounded fake, I worked really hard to make the jumps between notes that are far apart slide a little. I listed to Yo Yo Ma playing Bach's cello suite no.1 before writing this for reference. As for the drop...I just blew that outa my a** lol. I just remember the triplet eighth notes being popular and the 2 and 4 counts.

@psychgoth Well, it could be that the cello sounds fine. I actually play the cello so I know what it really sounds like, but I guess that most people who have never heard a real cello (which happens to be most people) wouldn't notice the difference.

allegrezza is italian and means "joy" and it's not a joy full song, but i still enJOYed it.

She actually plays the contra-bass, the pegs at the bottom of cellos are made so that the can only be conveniently played sitting. Contra-bass the peg is shorter and less sharp ment for standing :P so there

@mrmantacos Well to my credit, I legitimately believed this sucked at first because the cello/trance bit after the filtered cello/bass section has chords that I felt where clashing with the notes. Also, it might've been because I was sidechaining them before I decided to use the gating effect. And what about yours now? Oo

I don't normally ship my ponies, but when I do, I prefer Octavia + Scratch. That is all.

@mrmantacos Aha, but the tuning pegs on her instrument are CLEARLY those of a cello. And besides, you would NOT have a band with both a Sousaphone AND a contrabass. The sound in the low register would be so muddled. Especially since they also have a pianist. So a cello would sound better since it can play high notes as well, being a more melodious instrument than just accompaniment.

@psychgoth Not really. My mic is one I tore out of a cheap headset and my only other option would be using my phone which would be hard to position effectively, I'd have to set it on the ground.
