most anti virus softwares like windows defender have a built in ransomware protector. on windows defender specifically it blocks changes done by a program trying to modify files.
How well would it handle a single file of malware being downloaded at a time though? Since that's a more realistic scenario. Looks like a big amount of malware being run consecutively overwhelms Defender.
you need to turn on ransomware protection and set defender settings to delete for results. defender is also amazing for deleting trojans, i installed a fake gacha life one time because i was dumb, windows defender asked me to delete it immediately and it took a surprisingly short time to remove the trojan.

You are not testing windows defender. It's more like how much windows defender can endure the stress. It's a free and optional program to defend your PC. You should be thankful.
It sometimes works. I have KMSPico on my computer (the PC fixer put it on lol) and when I open it, put USB in or open the folder, Windows Defender detects it and instantly kills it.
I also found a feature in defender against ransomware, it blocks suspicous file access and logs them in defender and in worse case it should back them up in onedrive too.
The only reason that Windows Defender sucks as it doesn't immediately delete ransomware and other viruses or move it to quarantine and hidden from the user.
Just seeing the words ”Windows Defender” gives me guilt. My Windows Defender got turned off since it needed updating and the .NET Framework file for those updates got corrupt. So yeah. I am always getting nightmares from that word...
I just set my windows defender to periodically scan and windows really asked me to allow windows defender, window's own antivirus, if it could manage my pc. BRO WHAT WINDOWS DEFENDER GONNA DO DELETE ITSELF?
I have a memory of nearly purposefully installing a virus on my dad’s computer. However, once I pressed the download button and Windows defender alerted me about the file, I took a second to rethink what I was about to do. I’m so glad I thought it out, because if I didn’t have windows defender on, well, let’s just say my parents wouldn’t have been happy 😬

fun fact my stupid butt tried to download garrys mod for free using a thing but windows defender said "AYO TROJAN THINGY DELETE THAT THANG" and i was panicking so i exited that and deleted the trojan thingy
Windows Defender gets a bad reputation it doesn't deserve these days. It is really effective now. I no longer bother with anti virus software and I've been virus free for over a year now.
Give windows defender a break. It got put up against like 50 different virus at once and the settings weren't even on properly. It did pretty good for a built on antivirus
Yeah... BS! You are running part of protection (with ransomware protection off), downloading everything while antyvirus is off. Then you are turning it on and immediately starts open them, not giving any time to initialize and scan memory before. Every av protection must scan memory and critical files first, than protect everything else.
So in conclusion windows defender does a pretty good job because nobody runs 10 ransomwares at once. Moreover, everyone should have external backups and that's why ransomwares are not dangerous at all since I will just delete everything and then put up the external backup.
I would like to access the DISCORD server, but it tells me that the link is not valid ... I have tried with multiple accounts and PCs ... but it doesn't work! Does it work for you ???
It's good enough , Otherwise it's your own fault for visiting shady and stupid sites or downloading pirated stuff from unknown sources , If not then you won't ever get hacked.
Actually windows defender works the best for me, I had 1 year of paid kaspersky, bitdefender, norton, and used for 5 years on my old Computer avira and bitdefender both free, windows defender is lighter and had a system scanner that scans every file that I want to access and remove all the viruses. Very raccomanded for everyday use
As demonstrated by TPSC (The PC Security Channel), Windows Defender not only used up considerable about of resources, it did a bad job in protecting the system from malwares.
TPSC do a lot of Antivirus testing to see which one is the most effective in protecting the system, which I think you guys should check out.
It did found viruses, but asked you what to do, Contain, Remove or ignore. + ransomware protection was off. I think thay by changing the settings to auto remove and also enabling the RANSOM protection it could have protected u lel

windows defender is very good in terms of an anti virus. if you turn on controlled folder access, they flag every single program that modifies files. this is very good for ransomware attacks. also the fact that it gets updated multiple times a day. as a virus remover, get the free version of malwarebytes to remove malware. remember though: the best anti virus out there is your knowledge. if your a dumb fuck who clicks on every free download button or tries to download 4k 120fps hentai then you need an anti virus.
It's enough. You don't need third party antiviruses in this day and age unless you are for some reason still on Windows 7 or you visit shady sites. If you stick to your usual routine of YouTube, social media, Reddit etc. then you will have no issues leaving Defender running in the background with uBlock Origin as browser extension. All third party AVs do nowadays is steal your information and hog your computers' resources. Use Malwarebytes free for ocassional scanning.
the only real problem with "shady sites" is that sometimes you visit a legit site that redirects you to a virus site like porn site which has happened to me quite a few times, just hard nowadays to stay away from shady sites when you get involved with them randomly
@AlexM "Let everyone know" and " egotistic eltisit attitude." You mean just like you proudly letting everyone know what protection you do and don't use. What a hypocrite. There was no attitude in the Mahaer's posts, you were the one to bring an attitude into this. Not that your ego will accept this.
Windows Defender is the biggest scam in existence, it simply doesnt do what its supposed to, but instead it deletes every of your cracked games or any safe windows mod.
Maybe just don't run the malware if it tells you it's a virus >_>

0 likesYeah... BS! You are running part of protection (with ransomware protection off), downloading everything while antyvirus is off. Then you are turning it on and immediately starts open them, not giving any time to initialize and scan memory before. Every av protection must scan memory and critical files first, than protect everything else.
1 likeSo in conclusion windows defender does a pretty good job because nobody runs 10 ransomwares at once. Moreover, everyone should have external backups and that's why ransomwares are not dangerous at all since I will just delete everything and then put up the external backup.
