It doesn't matter since the files and instructions in every Windows 9x version are the same. The errors happened because the 9x dlls, executables, cpls etc. don't have the required instructions which XP is looking for.
Next time you merge two windows versions, here's a tip: Instead of using total commander, boot the VM with an ubuntu live disk or any live OS and copy and paste from there to bypass the write protections

It's not windows 95 theme at all...do you know there's the classic theme in xp and 7 as well. This just looks like a corrupted system. It's why the default UI kept appearing which is slightly off colour to the theme of 95.

1. change display setting to:

3. Don't install VMware Tools, change resolution to 1366x768. Done. You will see the glitch.
If nothing, install on UEFI firmware, turn off stretched mode, full screen. Other resolution will not working.
