The last few Christmases have been really difficult for me and my family since my dad took his own life in Nov 2013 and this song completly summed up how I've felt about Christmas since then. It was my favourite time of year and now it's just really sad and not enjoyable but it's slowly coming back to me this year and I'm starting to feel a bit of Christmas spirit again somehow and this song has helped a lot! It's 75 degrees outside in Texas.

It's almost August and I'm listening to this for the 100th time and I absolutely love it. I feel like it could be taken in the movie aspect where it's cheesy and the main character lives in a world without Christmas, so they try to bring it back. For me, it's taken the mental health route. It starts out with "December is just being another sad month." It's all grey and not very exciting and there's nothing really changing and everyone is moving doing the same thing, but the person singing realizes something is wrong and tries to become them again. They try to fix themselves, and it may not have been a full blown thing, it may have just been realizing something like Christmas can be something to laugh and feel happy about again. It could be having their family and the bad jokes and board games and smiles and, not only would they be helping themselves, they'd be helping everyone else. The other people would see that spark and that light again, even if only for a split second, even if they knew that it might be gone by the next year, even if they know the tinsel might be covered in mud by tomorrow, they loved and enjoyed it in that moment. And the person singing realizes how good it actually can be.

Dodie always seems to capture exactly how I'm feeling and help me through it.

I’m 15 years old, The youngest out of my siblings, Christmas is always a tough time for me. With all the tv shows and movies and everything telling you how much fun Christmas is and how you get to see so much family, it’s hard when you don’t. Yes, I have it better than most but it sucks when my friends talk about aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and all that stuff that I don’t have. Most of my Christmases end in disaster. This song reminds me of the most wonderful time I've ever had with my best friend. We were at this beautiful Christmas festival and there were fairy lights and got chocolate and it was amazing. Okay so ik this sounds stupid but recently I’ve been, i guess, mourning my childhood. (I’m 16) And a HUGE part of that has been Christmas. Ik I’m being overdramatic but I’m trying not to cry rn because I miss how I used to feel and how my family used to be. Anyone else?

last year i was severely depressed. i didn't enjoy christmas whatsoever, i ate the bare minimum in the morning and evening and hid up in my room for the rest of it, expectedly my family was super worried about me and it was the worst.

this year i got help, i discovered that people did really care for me and wanted to supply me with their comfort and help. i started to see a counsellor at school, sort my problems and slowly but surely improved. i'm having less panic and anxiety attacks, i'm experiencing less and less depressive episodes and i'm finally happier, i can enjoy christmas again, for real this time.

this song really reminded me of everything, i don't know why, but "how have we missed out on all of these years" and "look how good it can be" (and the whole song really) just got me sobbing (oops lol), and it reminded me, and made me realise that i am okay, and that everything will be okay. i can be happy and excited with my family again.

siblings asked, "presents?"

Obviously this isn't what's it about but it just reminds me of how my family and I used to be so happy around Christmas and everyone was so loving and bubbly and festive and then my parents got divorced and I kept growing up and now Christmas is stressful around money and who get's to see who. Who want's to see the kids this Christmas? what time do we switch who gets to wake up where? This is basically what it feels like during the holidays when you live somewhere where it never feels like winter. I’m sitting here like “yay! Christmas is coming and it’s gonna be magical and wintery and such” and then I realize that, no, that’s not going to happen. It’ll be a minimum of 50°F and it’ll be another sad green Christmas. It’s just depressing. Some people get seasonal depression from the winter, I get it from the lack of winter. I miss it. It’s like my childhood fucked off and every Christmas is a reminder of it. Christmas is still my favorite time of year and winter has become my favorite season because it’s the only time of year when you can leave your house without melting, but I feel like it’s just not as special. I wish I could have a proper Christmas. I’ve rambled s lot farther than I wanted to. Oops. Sorry.
