I've never looked back at Season 1 episodes. I entirely forgot that the future ruler of Equestria sent a swarm of parasprites into a populated city. Though I can imagine Celestia has a few such acts she's kept silent about too. Still it leaves me wondering, how were they eventually dealt with?

Pft, even on my first viewing of the episode I immediately drew that connection! Someone was definitely a Trek fan, especially considering the star wars references, the big lebowski reference, and all of the other references. Why not this one?

Since Discord is a manifestation of Q from Star Trek: The Next Generation, parasprites are almost certainly inspired by tribbles.
I just figured it was mere coincidence that Fillydelphia and Ponyville both had parasprite problems at the same time. I don't think they're that close together that a ball of herded parasprites can pass from one to the other in less than a day. Plus the ball seemed to disperse at the edge of town, I don't think they went anywhere. As for StarTrek, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was a deliberate reference. It wouldn't be the first time, Discord is basically just Q gone insane after all.

Like character A enslaving themselves to character B permanently after character B saved character A’s life, or (thank Luna MLP hasn’t done this one yet) character A shrinking to the size of a pea and letting character B swallow them, this trope is older than a lot of people realize.
Never really watched the original Star Trek and even I instantly got the reference when I first saw Swarm of the Century. Just didn't know how closely the plot followed.
Only thing, in Philadelphia there already was this infestation(?) while they only just got rid of those creatures. It should take some time for them to travel so far and get so many. So I think the parasprites in Ponyville isn't the same as in Philadelphia.
I honestly think it's a knock-off. I mean they LITERALLY have the EXACT SAME PLOT. They have the same troubles, the same failed solutions, and the same solution that prevailed.
Perhaps some of the show is somewhat based on Star Trek, I mean Discord is basically Q put into a Draconequus' body, and crazier. Perhaps the reformation is like how Q got interested in Humans. I mean, he was prepared to murder them! Not to mention same actor. And Star Trek has multiple knock-offs, TNG, Voyager, Enterprise, and DS9. Like the four g's of MLP. Not to mention pretty big fandoms ;3 The last two may be coincidental. I'll look into it some more, I might have missed some things. Oh, yeah, the multiple species too. They find new species through-out the show, as well. (Zecora, Changelings, Crystal Ponies, ect.) (And my dad said the last episode of season 4 was like the Mane Six in their Power Ranger's form. ;P)
I have to think that possibly they ATTEMPTED to make it a direct reference, considering that the air dates of the two shows are within two weeks of each other, 35 years later.

Waaaait... Twilight has teleportation magic! She could have just beamed the tribbles parasprites elsewhere. It would have had the same outcome but taken less time, and, like, not have destroyed Ponyville.

I don't think the para sprites came from ponyville to Philly there to far apart and it makes senes there is a natural Durant in the Every free Because that's where they came from. But I will agree that Twilight could have handled it better.

In the Deep Space 9 episode Trials And Tribble-ations, Worf tells Odo that tribbles and their entire world were annihilated since this incident. Of course, Odo makes the mistake of taking it lightly and- y'know what, just watch the episode.
Can changelings actually change into parasites? If so was it the changelings who invaded ponyvill? Where they feeding off of the love between the ponies and pinkiepie? Was that why they where mean to pinkiepie?
I don't know about any treble but the parasprites they could have actually killed the ponies because if they ate all the food in Equestria it'll take a bit wild for all the crops to grow back and the ponies won't have anything to eat so the die of starvation that's my theory about you Brony Notion
when i hear Changeling i always think of the ones from Starcraft 2 on top the show XD. Seeing as they an also take the form of any basic unit in the game.

A two month late reply: Some but not all of the parasprites were sent into the everfree. The rest, which were sent there by most likely Rainbow Dash, went to the city. Most likely, that ball of parasprites IS the cause of the infestation there.

That's sad... Its a groundbreaking science fiction television series. The first episode aired in the 60's and it has continued to this day with many different reincarnations, series, and movies. It is famous for having an interracial crew, even in the 60's, and often offering ahead of its time views on conflicts in our world. (it also correctly predicted cellphones, ipads, and a lot of other stuff)

The rest, which were sent there by most likely Rainbow Dash, went to the city.
Most likely, that ball of parasprites IS the cause of the infestation there.
I saw a troll face on one of t he parisprites!!!

That's sad... Its a groundbreaking science fiction television series. The first episode aired in the 60's and it has continued to this day with many different reincarnations, series, and movies. It is famous for having an interracial crew, even in the 60's, and often offering ahead of its time views on conflicts in our world. (it also correctly predicted cellphones, ipads, and a lot of other stuff)
