This was such a dark episode. When I first watched it I had no idea it would go that way at the end. Even with bloodbending only being able to be done during a full moon, the idea of drawing water from living things (like you said possibly even humans) carries so many implications. Although it wasn't explained I feel Katara picked up so quickly because Hama used the technique on her on purpose so Katara could experience it and get "a feel" for it.
Despite what Hama did I still feel bad for her. It's sad she had to end up this way. This would never have happened if it wasn't for the Fire Nation. Decades of cruel imprisonment would mentally break almost every person. I used to think water bending was one of the weaker styles because you need a source of water available but I really changed my mind after this episode.
I also liked how we got another callback to "Sokka's instincts." Even if what he did was rude his instincts were proven right again in the end. One of the things I like about Sokka is that he admits and apologizes when he does something wrong. I always liked the scene where they all bow in shame after Hama caught them in the act. It are those little moments that really brings the characters in this show to life for me.
I really enjoyed re-watching this episode with you. I look forward to see your reaction to the future episodes. You probably already recorded the upcoming episodes but the next episode is well known in the fandom.
Thank you again for sharing your reactions with us. I always find myself looking forward to a new reaction every day, no matter the show you're watching.
The way she took all the water out of those flowers and killed them implied she could have easily killed her fire nation victims, but she chose to imprison them instead, to do to them exactly what was done to her.
Real talk, this episode is very creepy but also interesting. Bloodbending…never thought I’d see a darker side of waterbending but man, seeing the way it operates is terrifying! It was one thing to see Hama do it but Katara, that was crazy. Great reaction though.😉
By FAR the best Episode from Avatar, the Episode was such a huge fan favourite. Katara is so powerful, there is one more episode that will be good as this one
Great job mastering the opening theme. This was definitely an intense episode (one of the few times where the heroes win and it still ends in tears). You know what would be fun for a Sunday reaction, though? Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. It features a pretty great on-screen performance from Katara's voice actress.
@@Narrator007 Wow, that's really generous! Also good advice about the comments. Yeah, no pressure of course, but if you want to help promote the video when it comes out, I'd definitely appreciate that. :)
@@strebiskunk2ndchannel864 Btw, if you'd like to notify other old subs about your new channel, you could try replying to some of your regular commenters on the old reviews to let them know. I could also make a promotional video for you. In the past, I've made promos to point people to new MLP blind reactor channels, so perhaps it could reach some of the old fanbase.
If you'd like, then as soon as there is an introductory video or review, I'll post something with a link to it.
@@Narrator007 That's awesome! Thank you :) I'm currently planning spoiler and non-spoiler reviews for the G5 movie. The non-spoiler review has been written, so for that, I just need to work out the visuals that I want to use.
I don't know if you have any plans to review anything from g5 in the future, but I made sure to subscribe to your new channel just in case. Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into those entertaining g4 episode reviews! The one I still remember most was your review of Hearts and Hooves Day.
I'll say this, I think the audio from your macbook was a lot better than your headphone mic. It would be great if you could get a real mic in the future! I'd recommend a Shure SM7B for commentaries.
Hey, bro) Great reaction! Can I ask, is it just me, or the volume of your mic became a little quiet in the newer reactions (in the ones you use new cam) and also the cam itself has a kinda weird angle (it’s warping your face). Is this the thing you were talking about the messed up settings in the first couple reactions? I’m just a little bit confused by it lol
@@ponybroiguess384 Don’t think I’m complaining. Quite opposite, I’m just trying to suggest improvement to make ur vids even better. And as I see now, I can adjust to new cam, but yeah, I think you will need to higher up your volume on editing a little bit. Other than that you are still doing great!
Nah that’s just how it is. I don’t really notice my face being warped, it’s just kind of sideways now. I don’t hear anything with the audio being too quiet either, but I guess if enough people mention it I’ll have to change something
So many stories focus on act over intent when it comes to so-called dark powers. Very few things are inherently dark in nature, and even if you argue that body puppeteering is one of those things, the intent behind the act still matters.
That said, Katara really didn't want to learn to bloodbend, but Hama forced her hand. It could even be said that Katara's horrified look was more because of how easy it was for her to do for the first time, than that she was forced to do it. She has a taste of not just how to bloodbend, but how easy it is.
I think it was implied that she could have, easily. The only reason Hama did not kill her victims, I believe, was revenge. She wanted them to suffer the same fate that she did, imprisonment.

This is a good and horrifying episode! One of my favourites from book 3!
11 likesMy favorite episode for two reasons. The creepy tone, and the implications of waterbending taken to their logical, rather dark conclusion.
