This lyric analysis makes me realise how well written this song is...

If you're looking to play this on ukulele, you can use the C and A string, and just subtract one fret from everything in the guitar tutorial. It's in a different key, but it works :) so for example, the verse would be frets 4, 6, 1, 2 all on the C string.

Anyway it was really lovely hearing your explanation, and it just increased my appreciation of the lyrics because they don't explain themselves, if that makes sense? Like "super-glued human of proof" doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone else but it does to you and that's so important.

EVERYONE CONFUSED BY THE STRUMMING/PLUCKING PATTERNS: a really good friend of mine actually knows how to play SOLS, so i asked her to explain it. here's what she said:

(btw, what she refers to as the 6th string is what dodie refers to as the 1st, and the 4th = 3rd)

you hit the 6th string once, then the 4th, then the 6th again, but then when you go back to the 4th string, you hit it twice. (this would make that 13-133) and you slide you finger on the 6th string from the fifth fret, then to the seventh, then to second and third. that's through the verses. then, at the pre-chorus (the 'what the hell would i be --), you just hit the 6th string and the 4th string for two turns (13-13) before sliding from the seventh fret to fifth, then to ninth, and you repeat that sequence twice. then for the chorus, it goes the same as the verses except, after the seventh fret, you slide to the sixth and then to first and back to fifth.

i know, my girl's a gift. i havent tried this yet, but i have no reason to believe it's wrong 😂i hope this helps some of you!

The song actually makes me think of my older brother and how much we grow apart and back together but he is always there for me when I am definitely a broken teen. He's been through so much and us growing up has definitely made me realise that he is deeper than I can ever know, and that we all have cracks that run deeper than anyone else can understand. He's my rock and this just makes me cry thinking of him and how lovely he is. He's a good egg.

I'm so happy we got a little explanation of the lyrics! I was so curious and holy damn can I relate to being so so fed up with losing people close to you. I'm such a clingy friend, I borderline refuse to let people go and it's pretty fucking sad actually. I once kept sending someone birthday and christmas cards and presents for three years with nothing in return when they used to be one of my BEST friends until I finally gave up. :(

I love the song so much, now that I know a little more about the back story. I spent like two years in an emotionally abusive relationship.
I lost all of my childhood friends because of this relationship. I'm still trying to make new friends, but so far I'm still pretty alone. I'm kind of scared of people bc my ex used to tell me over and over how everyone I knew just wanted to use me for their own amusement and I believed him.
It's been more than a year since I broke up with him, and I'm still picking up the pieces of my self esteem.

I was thinking of how I slipped away from one of my best friends, who I practically lived with for around seven years, until we went down different paths and she refused to talk to me. 1,5 years ago I also ended a manipulative relationship which made me unhappy for a little over 1 year without me really realising it. It was a great relief after I was free again and became happy again. But the last wound healed just a few months ago after a good conversation with a friend. It let me realize what I had pushed out of my mind, but was never able to forget, because it always haunted me from the back of my mind. The friend got me to 'digest' the bad relationship completely so that I now can carry on
I wish that everyone has a friend who can do such things every once in a while. Sometimes I think that we don't value the conversations with our friends high enough

I'd really love to learn this on the ukulele, but since I can't play the guitar I can't work out the chords from this. I've struggled with bipolar depression for the last 4 years and when you're in such a slump you learn to appreciate small things. This channel's videos helped me bunches! I even picked up the guitar and self taught myself because of you! Music has helped me get through little rough patches and that choosing music as something to aide my depression was inspired by you. intresting story real quick: So i actually have a really beat up acoustic that only has the strings played left (i was rough on it and never got around to getting it fixed) and im supposed to get a new guitar for Christmas. Literally when i saw that i had the right strings to play it i cried because i had never been able to play an actual song on my personal one and not the ones i 'play' at school. So this was actually the first song I learned to play on guitar, which is a huge deal especially seeing that this song means so much to me.

I've never played guitar in my entire life even though I own one, yet I learned this song in one afternoon when I should have done my homework instead

The line "superglued human of proof" and dodie's explanation really reminds me of Sylvia Plath's poem 'Daddy'. I have been in a relationship like this which lasted 9 months. I lost some of my best friends, which sucks, but it also helped me become closer to others, so i guess theyre pros and cons of everything.

I can sort of relate to this, in a friendship sense. I had a friend, who expected me to do whatever she wanted and she could be friends with whoever she wanted, but I wasn't allowed other friends. I was young, very scared and I didn't want to anger her so I did exactly what she said. I finally got out of that and I got close to someone else. I thought she was helping me trust people again, but no. After a few months the same thing happened again. And then I got close to my current friend! She's helped me, and I'd like to think I've done the same to her. I'm so much happier, but I'm so scared to loose her. This is so pathetic 😂😂😂

I have been in the same situation as you a couple times, but I've never been able to hold onto them afterwards as you have in this case. you're very lucky you're able to stay friends with this person. the people I've been with or have had mutual feelings for start off really loving and "in awe" of me or whatever but within a year they become really nasty or use me and whatever. basically say/do all the things they said they never would and I always feel like its my fault. like this last guy knew about my previous abusive relationship and how he made me think i was mad, and he said he'd always take my triggers into account and never treat me that way. then he literally did the same stuff and worse. I'm always trying to stay friends with these people even though they're awful, because I still care about them, but people are so bitter. ive always wished I had a brother so I could have at least one good example of the male species lol

uhhh so i was trying this out and i realized, if you find it too annoying to jumping up and down constantly you can just swap some of the 6th string parts string below it. for example for the 5th fret of the 6th string you can just play the 5th string, and the 7th fret on the 6th string can be replaced with the 2nd fret of the 5th string and so on. in the end you pretty much only need the first 4 frets so there's a lot less sliding your hand around.

on the ukulele, you could play F Am C G with chords E and A. As you pluck those to chords you play those notes. Or making it easy just play string E on the first fret, then finger free, then C and G for the first and second verse. Of course, it's a lighter key then a guitar but it works! for the chorus you play Am F C F, or finger free, then 1 finger on the first fret of E, then C and 1 finger on the first fret of string E again. hope that makes sense

So I have this one friend. I usually love my friends for no reason like mostly the only reason is the lil "friendship crush" I have on them before becoming friends. But it's different with her. repeat that another time then

Hai! I’m cole. Me and my mother just gout out of an abusive situation with my father. He abused me for over 13 years and he abused my mother for even longer. When me and my mother left the plan was to go to my original school but move to my grandmas. However only a week after me and my mom left, my dad committed suicide. And I had decided to go by “ Cole “ instead of Hannah. I thought and hoped my friends would still be there for me but In a span of 4 months ALL of my friends had left me. And to make it all worse- my 2 soulmates left me. So I guess they weren’t my soulmates...?

Now- 8 months later. All I have left are online friends who are all over the world. But yea- here I am. Alive and working through life one day at a time.
