Ladislav&Z....,...
Birmingham, England, is right as one of rock band's most prolific breeding grounds in the hope during the boom of the late '60s and early '70s. Like The Move, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, to name a few, they all cut their teeth with unim clubs and pubs in the industrial enlids of England's 'second city'. Yet for every Sabbath or priest who managed to rise above the limits of such taxable 'circle spots', necromandus or Flying Hat Band were painstakingly 'slaved' in the shadows, often not going anywhere quickly. There were literally thousands of these little-known outfits yearning for a break that could lead to a prestigious support spot, a 'headlining act' tour, or maybe even a record deal. As has often been the case, none materialized for most of these short-lived groups and a three-headed dog are certainly no exception. But it seems this Brum-based band is a larger 'unknown quantity' than many of the day's other underground hopes.
Even lighthouses from that era, such as Midlands promoter Norman Hood, who ran Tramp Entertainments, could not shed any light, admitting in a recent interview "They just seem to have sunk without a trace." Added Norm: "The priest's original vocalist Al Atkins tells me he still remembers the names while they were around at the same time he was leading J.P., but other than that, nothing." Although the identity of the group remains shrouded in mystery, what we can tell you for sure is that at least part, if not all, of this mega rare footage was taken on the railway on Curzon Street, Birmingham, circa 1973. What about the music of the Three-Headed Dog? Perhaps it is best summed up by suggesting that what we have here represents a rather unusual but contrasting mixture of interesting original material and thoughtfully accepted 'blankets' that sit quite comfortably side by side.
