The writers really seemed like they wanted to use Starlight as a villain again. I'm glad they squeezed that extra potential out of her. All the songs in here were great, too.
16:19 Starlight: "You know you're doing your Pinkie Pie voice, right?" Fun fact: When Tara Strong auditioned for Friendship is Magic, one of the roles she auditioned for was Pinkie Pie.
Love all the songs in this episode. Especially Luna's Future, and Pinkie's present. To be fair tho this show just has amazing music all around. Daniel Ingram is a genius.
I love this episode. Aside from the amazing songs, it shows a lot of Starlight's character, even with a small screentime for the actual Starlight, it shows her desire to change and interact with other people. And it's my favorite adaptation of the Christmas Carol.
To this day, “A Heart’s Warming Tail” is among my favorite holiday themed episodes of the show and one of the best of S6. This story is one of the most enjoyable adaptations to the “Christmas Carol” story in my opinion and part of my holiday traditions too. The songs alone have the power to get you in the holiday spirit and are one of the best highlights of this episode for me. Great reaction by the way!
P.S: You’ve unlocked access to the “It’s a Pony Kind of Christmas” album, now that you’ve seen and heard the songs from this episode.
Bon Bon Yeah, I like “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” too and it was actually the first adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” that I was introduced to at a young age.
Yeah, many shows did an adaptation of Dickens's "A Christmas Carol", and I usually hate when they do that, because it's totally unoriginal. But MLP surprised me positively of how well they did it and how well it actually fits the characters, especially Starlight and her backstory :> It doesn't feel forced at all. Quite the contrary. That was very creative, because it took an entirely new turn on the original story, and added to it with some amazing songs. There's only one other adaptation I liked: the Disney's one (with Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge, and Mickey Mouse as Cratchit).
I remember when I watched this and everyone in the live chat was just loving it and making jokes about how it was almost summer when it aired. There was even a poll on EQD about which song everyone thought was the best!
Also, apparently the writers said Discord was going to play Jacob Marley's ghost who would visit Starlight before all the other spirits of Hearthswarming, but they ran out of screen time to fit it in!
This is my 8th best episode of the series. The Christmas carol parody is great. The casting choices for each part is great. Twilight doing her Pinkie Pie voice is great.
Another Fun Fact: Tara strong made an audition to be Pinki Pie first so that part where Glimmy says to Twilight that she is doing her pinkie voice was a little joke about that.
If you ever decide to take another look at previous generations, I recommend the My Little Pony Tales episode Battle of the Bands. It focuses on a character named Melody, who's played by Starlight Glimmer's voice actress.
00:12 We did, mostly in spring or summer :D MLP can bring you the spirit of Christmas even in July :) 02:16 Yeah, you liked even those who were deliberately made to be bad :D 03:02 Starlight is an atheist ;) 03:33 You mean, the Labour Day? :J 03:36 Yeah, like almost every country in the world :D Does that mean that they're all communist countries? :J 05:30 Yup, basically a reënactment of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens ;J Starlight is Scrooge, Rainbow Dash is Cratchit ;) 06:24 Yeah, for all the fans of villain Starlight (myself included), this episode was a blast :) It was cool to see her former evil self again, even if it was just inside a fictional story :> 06:52 Another villain song that brought the vibes of the song "Poor Unfortunate Souls" sung by Ursula in Disney's "Little Mermaid". However, it's got its own unique motifs too. 07:35 Snowfall Frost is a real SJW: she doesn't like the holiday, therefore no pony else should be allowed to celebrate it either :q 07:45 Good catch :) 11:24 This episode is like the missing link in Starlight's backstory that we never had, disguised as Snowfall Frost's story. Because there's a lot of parallels between Snowfall Frost's character and his/her past, and Starlight's past. 11:47 Pony Snape :J BTW Alan Rickman who played Snape died shortly before this episode has been aired. Many fans speculated that this might be a tribute for him. 12:10 It won't, but it would definitely help in the third part of the motto: bettering Equestria :J 14:44 Big Band time :) 14:52 This might be a reference to another fairy tale, Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl". 15:08 Oh, and Featherweight is Tiny Tim from "A Christmas Carol" ;) 16:19 ADORABUL!!! :3 Fun fact: Tara Strong was originally auditioned for Pinkie Pie's voice ;) But it turned out that she's better suited for Twilight's voice, and Andrea Libman took her place for Pinkie. 16:37 Commercial break ;q 17:05 I guess it's a jab on "MERRY Christmas" and "Happy HOLIday" ;) 17:34 Rainbow Dash – the queen of impersonation ;) 18:54 Which is another parallel between Snowfall Frost and Starlight: they both "messed with time" and the consequences were tragic. They both were allowed to see that terrible future they caused, and that helped to change their mind. 19:19 Yup, epic and dark. Two words one would never expect to use in the context of MLP, right? :J (BTW is there any word that rhymes with "magic" other than "tragic"? They used this particular pair at least two times in the songs in this show.) 22:18 Excited Lyra :)

These Christmas/ Hearths Warming Eve episodes are some of my favorites of the series. Because I absolutely love Christmas ( literally to the point where I can’t stop thinking about it ), Christmas tv episodes always tend to be some of my favorites.
This is a pony version on a perfectly original story. Just like snowfall frost, Ebenezer Scrooge hated Christmas. So the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future taught him a powerful but meaningful lesson.Sometimes the best lessons learned come from our mistakes.
1:35 I actually never paid attention to it, but it seems Lemon hearts(from amending fances) got a boyfriend. I must say, that although I love reformed starlight sometimes I miss her villainous days, she was a really good villain. Regarding this episode, another musical episode and as the previous musicals this one delivers. I like all the songs and "say goodbye to the holiday" is really good. Plus that "luna" scene was awesome.
During Snowfall’s song, I think I saw Jim Moriarty.
Not to mention a ponified Severus Snape as Snowfall’s old teacher. Respect to Alan Rickman, who passed a few months before this episode originally aired.

I don't know how many times I've been called 'scrooge' for not celebrating Christmas even though I've never said they couldn't or shouldn't.

Discord was originally gonna be a Jacob Marley stand-in, but they had to cut him for time.
Other than that, the only thing I really dislike about this episode is Luna's Future (the song) as it's so loud and bombastic...yet the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come was notoriously silent, so thematically speaking a much more subdued version would be much more suitable.

Screw you Christmas/Happy New Year, Hearth Warming is much more cooler. Not only is this a national holiday that marks the unification of the entire pony race, but it also (with a high probability) does not allow Equestria to plunge into the ice age.
