don't know if this is unrelated but it sucks how twitter is one of the most reliable sources of information? people tweet stuff we don't see on the news, we get to speak even if we feel that our words reach no one, we have a chance to spread awareness. i don't know where i'm exactly going when i started writing this comment but yeah hope you're getting what i'm tryna say
Here’s the thing: it’s simultaneously the most reliable and the most unreliable source of information, and there is very little way to know which it is
@Scout Forbes yeah that's also true. most of the time we get first hand and up-to-date information practically right after it's happened. but sadly not all of that inso is true (or maybe it is but they gave it a bad twist) and that's why it's so frustrating
@Katy And how much of this information, even only considering the reliable info, directly affects you? How many times has the outcome of your day actually been impacted by anything on twitter?
And the news is constantly censoring stuff, tik tok was my source of protest stuff bc I don't have Twitter, but now tik tok is deleting videos with "guns" in them, mostly police handling rubber bullet guns
@gorak9000 quite a lot actually- both in terms of mood and action. I follow a lot of activists, politicians, authors, journalists... especially when referring to Scottish politics, this really allows you to organise and rally.
The fact that twitter has stories that they don't talk about in the news doesn't mean it's credible. FACT CHECK USING WIKIPEDIA. Wikipedia is actually a really reliable source.
@Dror Frid Wiki doesnt help when trying to find out if its safe to go to your local protest, or things that are happening in the moment. Thats what people should be using twitter for, not info on larger topics. News doesnt report shit, so we have to rely on social medias to get info
Wide shots juxtaposing the high society living with the shitty impoverished living conditions, maybe the main character walking through the dirty underbelly, seeing the injustices and corruption occuring, maybe flashes to pocket resistance groups shouting slogans, close ups of sick or homeless individuals looking directly at the camera
It's in my writing playlist for my dystopian book I'm currently working on. It scares me, writing dystopia, because I find myself having to change things more and more drastically because our world is becoming so close to what I write
Still a bunch of buildings covered in that flammable crap, too. "Well There's Your Problem" did a good deconstruction of what happened & why, what the engineering faults were & how they came about. It was pretty excruciating to watch but 100% on the money, every policy failure, coming from every bit of bigotry the council had towards the tenants, and the penny-pinching for honestly no good reason, like "Maybe Kensington were saving to have their own airforce..." It's full of gallows humour like that because honestly otherwise they'd just scream.
I honestly waited through the entire song because I thought dodie in the mirror was going to look at real dodie. How haunting would that have been right at the end?
@Grace Price Hey!! So the guitar is doing the same picking pattern as before (so still in 4/4) and the vocals over the top are in groups of 3! This sorta thing is called a hemiola in music theory- where you put groups that feel like they're in different time signatures over each other. So the "what do I do" section is repeated 3 times (27 beats but as 9 bars) whilst the picking pattern ends up being repeated 2 times in this case (32 beats- 8 bars)… the last 5 beats of picking are played with no vocals though... let me know if this makes any sense bc I'm not sure if it does haha and I can try to explain it better if not x
Every song dodie, you shock me with your humble yet complex rhythms, tonal patterns and musicality. It’s unreal and beautiful. I look forward to each new piece (especially when you compose a movie score). Have a great day.
Updated on information? Isn't that what we should be able to trust the news for?
Twitter is full of specific cells of people, none of them honest, and a much smaller population of people who came to it before it became the breeding ground of nightmares it is today.
There are other ways to stay informed, but the truth is, we do not need most of the information on social media or the news...but they want you to believe you do. Yet, it always seems to be the bad stuff...the stuff that makes the most money due to clicks and impressions.
Sad times. The few people I personally know who have disconnected are far happier, and still keep up with the actually important details. Maybe I should go to not having any of them...
I deleted mine for good. It gives you the ilusion of information but its just shallow. You don't have the time to process anything. I moved to good books now.
Paul Beverage I think I may have worded it wrong, not more informed but engaged. How I would describe it as, seeing things on Twitter made me go further into the topic and actually research. By far, Twitter is one of the worst ways to get reliable information. But, it does help me get me to the good information, if that makes sense.
Currently I’ve deleted twitter and been mostly staying off social media (besides Youtube) so I do agree with you that being disconnected makes people a lot more happier. Also, I’m not going on twitter for a very long time.
I would delete Twitter for the same reason but my school basically posts like everything on twitter and told everyone in our school to have it if we have a phone
"I will write, I will craft, watch me work through the pain
" this just got to me. sometimes i treat twitter like it's my personal diary and it's become one of my ways to cop. but besides, the way you put how many of us try to make a change by tweeting is so beautiful and accurate. and yeah, sometimes it may feel like we really are screaming at no one or shouting into the dark, but at least we're raising our voices and that's important. this song was beautiful dodie

your harmony has been so haunting lately - beautiful!
Oh gosh this song is just so powerful. I especially love the line “not much to do but smile too hard, but I’m laughing with no one” I’ll be thinking of that one for a long while
I remember you sang the first part of this song on Instagram a couple years back and I was OBSESSED, I wanted to so badly for you to finish it and now it's here I'm so happy!! It's just so beautifully hunting
lyrics to this beautiful yet ominous song- Here I am just another shout into the dark You would think, we'd be loud enough, to cause a spark But half the world cover their ears and cry So we're screaming at no one Screaming at no one
Mmmmm
Raise your arms raise your voice no one wants what we'll get We're all scared here, with the future that's set We will not stand still and watch it burn But we're dancing for no one Dancing for no one
The higher we build The harder to see Paint over your strokes And the ink will just bleed Please open your mind We beg from a screen
What do I do What do we do Nothing we can do
Tell me now, I am begging tell me are we okay? I will write, I will craft, watch me work through the pain Not much to do but smile too hard But I'm laughing with no one Laughing with no one
The higher we build The harder to see Paint over your strokes And the ink will just bleed Please open your mind We sob from a screen
The higher we build The harder to see People only believe What they need to believe Please open your mind We sob from a screen
What do I do What do we do Nothing we can do (There must be something we can do)
Though I appreciate passion and anger at issues, I do want people to remember that change happens slowly. It is reasonable, justified, and encouraged, to get angry at stagnation in regards to progress. You are allowed to— and most definitely SHOULD be angry at the issues plaguing our world. That anger can be used to fuel ambition, hard work, and therefore change. However, this frustration could also grow to grim acceptance of this stagnation. It could grow to a loss of hope. A cynical and defeated view of the world. I do not believe we can lose hope. Not with the way things are right now. History has shown us that change occurs over long periods of time, with downfalls and uprises. Fluctuating paths of progress are normal. As our world advances, large scale change is made comparatively quicker than before, but it still feels long to us. Though it is tragic to witness injustice, I beg you to take a step back, and to not lose hope. Use your emotion and justified anger to fight for change, and continuously work and do whatever you can to fix the way things are. That will help. And even though sometimes it may feel like all of that work is amounting to nothing, trust me, keep going and do not lose hope. I am a firm believer that hope is required in order for change to occur. Without the faith that things will get better, nobody will even try. There is something we can do, and we will have to work through this and continue to work until things start happening. Don’t give up on this. We can’t afford to give up on this. Stay safe and stay strong y’all ❤️❤️
the light change makes me imagine it as the people panicking because they want to change things but keep getting blocked by immovable obstacles. I hope I make sense
Well I'm glad we live in such time where we genuinely have this openness and empathy for one another. But damn, how true it is to have so many people refuse to listen."
this is the deepest thing anyone has said about twitter since literally the world and my heart wasn't expecting this level of emotion yet i can't stop listening because of course its dodie
youre standing over a cliff as the sun sets, with the orange and yellow hues painted across the land. you see ashes, you see fire, you see war. there eas nothing but back to back tsunami to earthquakes, strange pest infestations, and youve just came out of quarantine.
i've been waiting this song for years! i vividly remember listening a bit of it in a couple instagram stories when dodie still had short hair... the "what do I do
, what do we do, nothing we can do" part really glued in my head for quite a while and I bet it will be again
Goddamn I love this song. If I could make music I'd extend it. The composition is subtle and powerful. Every tone flows in and out without a trace. That quiet inhale was good
okay this song is beautiful but also the first second I see dodies face in a video I get this feeling of "it's gonna be okay. though you may not be okay rn, u will be one day." THANK YOU Dodie if you read this: I really don't want to put any pressure on u with this comment I think it's just a connection in my mind and there's nothing you could/should do about it.
i know no one will read this but i remember dodie singing this on a instagram live stream and i loved the concept of it, so i tried to write down the lyrics, i have it somewhere on my journal and i’m so happy she posted this again after like 2/3 years 🥺🥺
This was fitting in 2017 but somehow just as fitting now. Dodie, you are such a skilled songwriter. I strive to write like you every time I write a song. If we stand together we can make a difference!
I am so in awe at this song, didn't even know your songs could get any better than they all already are but wow! This is something. Thank you for expressing so much
everyone on twitter is just trying to make a change and it's so painful when we shout so loud but it's all behind glass, behind a screen. and we go out to protests and sign petitions and try to break that barrier, but they still lock us in, make us out to be the bad ones. we will be the ones with sharp pains in our feet, once we shatter that glass and it lands on the floor. but it's worth it, because they will be forced to hear our pleas. they will have nothing to hide behind.
dodie is one of those people who always can find the right words for the current situation and then make them sound THAT beautifully tragic. So. Much. Talent.
Thank you dodie. You turn a phrase from some words that none of us here can voice and spin it into a melody in such an elegant tone, with voiceless yet unbroken intention behind every note. I hope that one day I can have even half the courage that you do to string together some words so that I too can make a difference and weave my own story for those who cannot speak theirs.
This feels like an anthem to apathy and surrender, and sometimes that's what feels safe. But I don't think it's the right move right now, or the right message. I appreciated the sound and the beautiful lyrics, but the last thing we need is complacency. That said, you captured the feelings of the youth fairly well; we're all scared that our actions won't bring lasting change because the people in power just casually want us all to die lmao
Dang Dodie... When I first saw the title I was like “here we go 😒...” but wow. This is really really well written lyrically and such a cool and beautiful composition. Nice work! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 for me.
thank you so much for writing this, it’s exhausting and disheartening seeing the ignorance and hate in people. we will be heard though, these are hopefully the years of change. thank you again, this is gorgeous <3
I’ve been feeling a certain type of way today and this song just put it into beautiful words 💔 I’m not in a good place right now and this song just captures that hopeless feeling.
Make sure to handle it peacefully. Even if you're on the morally right side of the argument, being harsh and offensive to the other person still can paint you as a bad guy
@miIf reply girl its so nice your there standing against racism. 💙 But sometimes they just want to spread their hate... If u see that no matter what you say and how hard you try to explain they are not listening, just report them. Or else you will get unnecessarily angry and overwhelmed
Such a haunting song. Would love to hear you sing with some extra backing instruments and vocalists. Especially with those powerful yet truthful lyrics. Well done lovely x
FINALLY! oh my I have waited for the release of this song for three years! I absolutely fell in love with it when you posted it on your story! I have been constantly singing it for the past three years!
but it really is frustrating how it is still so relevant...
I loved this so much! Will this be on Spotify? I wanna listen to it a bunch more! It’s so ominous and kinda dark and got such a feeling of hopelessness to it but it’s also just bitterly true which I feel adds so much to the song as a whole.... and the harmonies! 👌 beautiful
Your plucking is always so soothing. I always have trouble with that when I play uke. Thanks for another great song dodie even tho i remember this in 2017 💞
I played through the last of us 2 recently and man.... the amount of times I wished they'd got you to help out with music for that you'd have been amazing on it. 😍❤️
You're the sort of person we need to make the change 💛 keep on learning, loving and creating and all our small efforts will create a tidal wave of change
I just love how you occasionally intertwine your main vocal and backing vocal lines. Thank you so much for making my world a better place with your music - despite the dystopian touch. Keep 'em coming
This is so beautiful. Enchanting. Almost hipnotizing. I feel like I'm listening to a really epic movie soundtrack.. Dodie, your songs are breathtaking! ❤ thank you so much for sharing them with us
Absolutely beautiful and amazingly written! This made me cry so hard but I’m so happy to have heard it. Ik that things could always be worse and even though that’s not what the songs about that’s what it reminds me of. I love this song.
This song conveys such a raw and relatable feeling of crying, screaming, or laughing at your phone yet being totally alone and I cannot physically process it oh my
Please release this song, on ALL platforms! It is so profound and so wonderfully written, both musically and lyrically. Thank you for sharing this with us - I feel truly blessed to hear it.
This is genuinely such a beautiful song, and it's message is so very true, Twitter is so toxic, yet we always go back to it for information or entertainment. Once again, an amazing song, from an amazing artist.💙
A while ago you posted an incomplete version of this on Instagram... I have been waiting so long for the full version! This is so beautiful and I can’t wait for it to be released for streaming 💕💕
Such a hauntingly beatiful song. Very relevant these days. There's been all these recent protests and movements that really move crowds (black lives matter, climate protests, gilets jaune or yellow vests, Hong Kong protests against Chinese government, anti weapons movement after yet another school shooting etc. ), topics that people are genuinly concerned about, but will change very little in the long run. People really long for structural change, if only the governments would listen.
🎶What do I do, what do we do, there's nothing we can do ... 🎶
i’ve never really understood people saying that an artist really helped them until i listened to dodie. her music just feels so familiar and calm, it’s one of the few things that can calm me down after a panic attack other then wait it out. her music is just so beautiful i really don’t know what i would do without her songs
Omg does anyone else remember dodie posting part of this on her Instagram story years ago?? It's literally my favourite song that she's ever created for some reason I kept going back and relistening to it but lost hope that she'd post a full version I CANR BELIEVE SHE DID IT AND ITS SO MUCH BETTER THAN I HOPED AHH
this, in my humble opinion, is without a doubt your best song yet! terrific song-writing skills! "people only believe what they to believe" is SUCH a great line. cheerful thoughts all the way from brazil :)
Although you only released it today, on here, it still resonates perfectly with the time we're in. This some beautiful music, and it was very well-timed recording! Hope you're feeling good, Dodie!
1. great song, i am in love with your voice and the calm panic of the flow and lyrics 2. i love the composition of this shot, the colors, the mirror, its great 3. i hope everyone who sees this has a wonderful day
During hard times like this musicians and artists are some of the most valuable people we have. You guys lift the human spirit and thanks dodie because you do such a good job of it!
This a beautiful song but my mind is already creating a whole orchestral part behind this, just beautiful strings and flute and bassoon to accompany these lyrics
This song reminded me of a few years ago when I would to listen to your songs if I was starting to dissociate and it would help me through my bad days, I wanted to thank you because I’m doing so much better now, and I’m sharing because that gives me hope that things in our world can and will eventually change. Also you displayed the pain of isolation so well! This song deserves to be in a museum because the lyrics are true art!
oh dodie this is so pretty :((( its really resonated w/ my feelings abt the situation in our country rn (im from the philippines), thank you for this such a powerful song !!! stay safe and stay health ^_^
Wow, I am head-over-heels in love with this song! I really think you should release it on other platforms. If you do, keeping in mind the subject matter, maybe you should donate some of the proceeds to the BLM movement?
This is beautiful. And I can totally see it used in the slightly-angsty revelation scene in a TV show, transitioning into the epilogue scene for the episode.
Ever since I first heard this song on your insta story it's been my absolute favourite song of yours! Every new song and video you've released I've been hoping for this one!!! <333
"What do I do, what do we do, nothing we can do" Those lyrics resonate with me so much and its crazy this song was written in 2017 and not in the last week.
This is the most beautiful song about twitter, ever. How could you make something really beautiful out of something rather ordinary? You always amaze me ♡♡♡
Considering the time period when you wrote this song, it's doesn't surprise me that the lyrics are so devoid of hope (Although, being a person who always searches for the silver lining, I really liked the countermelody going "There must be something we can do"). It also fascinates me that this song can also be linked to people having to be in quarantine. There is a strong feeling of isolation in the song, where social media is the only outlet that someone has to speak to the world, and yet it doesn't make people feel any less alone. To me, social media is a two-edged sword. On one hand, it can create a very toxic environment, a skewed sense of self-worth in either direction, an echo chamber of opinions or misinformation, and it can be something that takes up a lot of our time. On the other hand, it can be an incredibly powerful tool for change, a way for people to stay in touch with one another, a way to chronicle moments in a person's life, and a way to rally people together for a cause. In the end, I suppose it all comes down to how you use it. I got rid of Facebook in 2015 when the environment it was creating was severely toxic to me. I made an Instagram, and I often use it to check on my friends, follow you dodie, a few other people on YouTube, and to rarely post an important moment in my life. My next post will probably be after I pass my nursing exam to be honest. I don't go on it all that often, but I will go through it every now and then to see how everyone is, and then I will often text/call my friends too. Right now, staying connected with the people we care about is something that I think everyone needs! Thank you dodie! Great work with the song! :) <3
I remember discovering you when you had around 400k subscribers. I immediately fell for your music, and I even made one of my school projects about you. you're amazing, and i love everything about you. Keep up the good work ❤️
This is heartbreakingly beautiful. Also the way the sun shines in the beginning and then goes away at the end is just so fitting for the hopelessness feeling of the song.
I cannot put into words how much I love Dodie. She's just the most perfect human being to ever walk the planet I am too obsessed I don't know what to do I can't wrap my head around the perfection of one person and the beauty and the adorableness i think if I ever met her it would take all my might to not just propose or something it all physically hurts meeeeee
I keep coming back to this song. Maybe because of the interesting time signature at the chorus. Maybe because of how terrifyingly relatable the lyrics are. Or maybe because of the soothing color palette that you use in your recent videos, including this one.
Whatever the real reasons are, I just want to say that your music is magical because it speaks to me, Dodie 💛
I found your videos recently and feel you in so many ways. I believe you are healing through your art, and thousands of us are doing the same thanks to your music. Thank you so much for your brave voice in the wind.
I have an idea. Can we, viewers, also help by making a malinda-style collaboration to make a community cover of this song? I'll be happy to cooperate if anyone else is in! :>
i’ve been struggling these past few weeks more than ever but i’m taking it one day at a time. this is my calm amongst the chaos today. thank you for the calm<3
Your first sentence just rips into my heart like a dagger. Sending you my love, sweetheart. Your gift is such magic 🦋🌬⚘... adore you. You're such an inspiration to me.. I JUST started writing music. I have ZERO clue what I'm doing but you're music touches my spirit in so many beautiful places...
I thought the lyrics went "we saw it from a screen" before I read the description and I thought that was reffering to the murder of George Floyd and it gave me chills. Also it's scary how something you wrote so long ago can be applied to our situation today. The atmosphere does feel an awful lot like it did back then.
2017 was the first year I could vote and it was so incredibly disheartening. I've felt all my hope for humanity draining from me ever since. This song so perfectly describes that. I am so at a loss for what to do about the racist, homophobic asshole who leads this country and the people who follow his lead...it all just feels so hopeless lately. Thank you, as always Dodie, for putting my thoughts into a song!
Finally!! I loved the little snippet of this song you made on Instagram and after all this time I wasn't expecting the full thing but it's really good.
You are a great singer and very beautiful! I like your style (and this song), you inspire me. Know that you have russian-speaking fans P.S. my English is not very good but i love you❤️
My school started again today and the whole time I just felt extremely scared and powerless and even tho your song wasn't written about the situation right now, it really helped because you expressed those feelings Thank You (:
I got eallymattacked on Twitter today by a fandom I thought mae me feel safe... the panicky undertones in this song perfectly matched my mood... also good job maintaining the key signature over those chorus hemiolas that looked hArd
ok but who else thinks dodie deserves the world for what she does? she’s a fantastic singer and inspiration to all. she inspired me to make a youtube channel, what a legend.
This reminds me so much of my feelings towards the climate crisis omg. I want to believe everything will be okay but there are so many people who don't take it seriously that OUR FUCKING PLANET is dying and I feel like I'm screaming and begging and they're like "yeah but... that wouldn't be good for the economy. You'll understand that when you're older" So we're watching it burn. Dodie, I freaking love you <3
this is so good :( "please open your mind, we sob from a screen" is really all that happens on twitter. we're all just crying about things that affect us but the people who need to hear it won't listen
This is my favorite track of yours, love the hopeless lyrics of our atomic bomb of postmodernistic knowledge and constant arpeggios of that chord structure more fitting for the intro scene of 28 days later.
“nothing we can do” this is hopeless yet every now n then i remember that i can do nothing to make the world better makes me feel less guilty about problems after all there's nothing you can do to stop bad things. it's sad yet so calming.... you can't stop death of a loved ones, you can just look at them and remember that you can't do anything to help. you can't . “nothing we can do”
the refrain (“what do I do”) is so well-crafted! the way your melody plays with the rhythm there is so genius! it’s like the melody is played in a 3/4 time signature, but it’s actually still playing in 4/4. Wow. :)
Every single song by dodie makes my heart hurt and heal at the same time. The satisfaction of how perfectly she articulates complex and complicated feelings, but also the ache from the collective pain we all share.
Not gonna lie, the end of the song lost me </3 There’s so much we can do! It’s just not ONLY scrolling/arguing/posting onto twitter, although that, too, is part of our solution. We share information and petitions and places to donate and where events/protests will take place. It can feel hopeless but changes are already happening, as is a shift in public perception of structures that SEEMED unbreakable... given what I assume this song is alluding to I feel the ending, while a TOTALLY understandable personal sentiment, is simply not true... and I wanted to point that fact out. The song was stunning! I loved the harmonies and in the face of stonewalling this sort of disheartened attitude is where I personally end up as well. I think it’s important to still take a look at what you CAN do because there is a lot. Even if it’s marginal, even if it’s not what you may want which is one person to change because they should and it’s the time to get everyone on board. Things are going to change WHETHER OR NOT those individuals like it. Focus on what you can do and we still win. Slow and steady everybody (oh, yeah, and Black Lives Matter !!!) have a good one keep scrollin
I'm so glad I'm taking my time to not be on twitter. I've been addicted for years, and this week's the only concrete effort I've taken to temporarily call it quits on the app. So much rage stresses me out y'know? Not to be that b*tch boy who's highly apolitical and crap, but sometimes, a healthy and productive discourse about issues is all we really need— and twitter isn't helping on that matter!
If u love twitter and conversing there, I totally get you! I used to love it too. But it's also totally fine to cool off a bit and think through everything without so much rage.
dodie!!! I've been fighting on Twitter with transphobes and racists. I just cry in bed at night thinking "Will I ever make them understand" "Is it worth it to try to change their minds?" I really needed this song. It's painful and beautiful. Also, I love the dodie green.
This song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of shouting rage and pain into an uncaring void. Especially with all the overlapping voices at the end, like all your feelings are building and then fade into silence.
dodes you have a platform and people who follow you and look up to you and while that is undoubtedly pressuring you can use it for good and you clearly are :))
"raise your arms, raise your voice, no one wants what we'll get" such a loaded lyric. I've been to these protests. They really aren't listening. We're getting everything but what we truly fight for. The screen doubles as a brick wall, with world-runners on the other side with their backs turned, ears covered, crying...
wow... i really needed to hear a song about this exact feeling. so thank you. but to whoever may be reading this, here’s your reminder that there is always something you can do. stay strong; take care of yourselves. the power of the people is stronger than the people in power.
The way your voice is incredibly soft and smooth but your picking is frantic and steady, it gives off a feeling of panic and unease whilst being so relaxing at the same time which I feel is the emotion of social media. It's so relaxing and calming but also so fast and repetitive. Another incredible song ❤
Please listen to this song. Communication solves everything. Sitting around vilifying your opponents, straw manning their opinions and censoring them, won’t work.
the sun heard dodie singing a song and went “oh dang!!!! That’s a good song!!!! Lemme help. Imma make some real cool symbolic lighting. Niiiiiiiiiice.”
Very nicely written. I think we all experienced these feelings one way or another. Especially during these days. We want to raise our voice, speak up. But the harder we speak, the more energy it costs. The more tired we get. Twitter truly is a blessing and a curse for that matter
the minors in there are so haunting. the harmonies of your voice that are trickled in really give it the vibe of the lyrics. as a song writer im so incredibly inspired by all that you do
Thank You. Honestly, I could have been comforted by this song back in 2017. I looked into arming my home with weapons then but decided that I would rather think my out of the worst that could happen rather than crawling into the gutter to squabble over scraps. But you had the question correct then. What do we do now? I guess we keep trying to educate them as we would recalcitrant children. And if they don't learn today then we will try to teach them again tomorrow. The other choice is to burn it all down and start over from the ashes. That has never worked before so there is no reason to think it will work this time.
The problem and hypocrisy i find with the western world(which i live in fortunately or unfortunately, you can be the judge) is that kindness, love for thy neighbour and vocal support for the oppressed comes from a position of comfort. How kind you are to your neighbour, fellow human, homeless dog down the road is directly related to how comfortable in life you are...financially, mentally and physically. If the comfort and wealth suddenly disappeared from the twitter generation, who shout from the rooftops to give a voice for the oppressed...i wonder how many would still be standing shouting for somebody else, and how many would be fighting with their lovely neighbour for a cup of water or slice of bread. And the biggest hypocrisy is that the wealth in the west, that gives the heroes who speak for the oppressed the platform to do so, has come from the oppression of the less fortunate. A lot of people who speak out for the oppressed have gained indirectly from oppression, which puts them in a comfortable position to do so. Comfort for humans always seems to come at a cost...a cost to other species or our own. Brilliant song btw!
It's almost 1:00 right now and I'm crying. this song seems so peaceful at first but it's so heavy I can feel it in my chest pressing down but your voice feels so light and airy like I'm floating watching the earth from another body yet the songs' masked in hopelessness and the lyrics omg the lyrics it feels like I can taste every syllable, every word is piercing through me and it's too intense too intense but it moves me so much I cant breathe
my lordy this is the most gorgeous ahhh 🥰 dodie dodie dodie you're the most talented soothing angel also honestly same. been so close to having a break from twitter recently but also i want to stay connected and i want to help the movement but idk if it's even helping or if it's making it worse and agh it's tough x x x
This songs feels so surreal to me because it reminds me of feeling like no matter how hard we fight for equal rights, nothing happens. “What do I do what do we do? Nothing we can do.” Just feels so panicked and helpless
Man, the arrangements are so little and yet the songs are always very rich. The guitar is soft behind, the lyrics are simple, the voice is just on point, where it should be, the softness at the right time, the harmonies. It's soft and beautiful, powerfull even.
it feel that way. but we can make monetary reparations, sign petitions, show up to protests, call and email representatives, engage positively with our communities <3
The tempo of the “what do I do” section is so addicting. Idk how to describe it but it’s like a rolling wave that u just go over and over again, just like social media where it’s loops of shouting, attention, drama, then it all goes away
i want to do a cover of this song edit: i cannot for the life of me figure out the rhythm of the chorus edit2: ok i just figured it out and it's brilliant
I knew before even clicking on this video that she would make me feel better but then I listened to these lyrics and felt this peace I didn't know I had the capacity to feel in the midst of all this? Such beautiful writing and singing, as usual. Never underestimate the power of art to remind us that we aren't the only ones who feel this way and we're always less alone than we think. Who knew a hopeless song was just what I needed to bring me a bit of hope I think. Thank you Dodie!!!
I feel this helplessness on twitter so much but I always end up coming back to it as I find it to be such a reliable news outlet...but at the same time it gives a warped view of how the world really is in two ways; in your echo chamber you think everyone thinks like you do and when you somehow come into contact with Union Jack twitter and you think that the world is full of people are completely vile.
It's increasingly hard in August, 2020, but to feel like we're on a brink and then...who knows. Not all of all us can capture it beautifully though, so thanks
I imagine a future archaeologist "ting ting ting" discovering buried in rock "ting ting ting" a hard drive from our time. He (or she) digs it out with a pickaxe. "ting ting ting" Found on the drive is, among many others, is this song, giving context to the state of mind of the people of this tragic time. "ting ting ting" Life goes on, humanity has learned (a bit) from its failures and the future is a tiny bit brighter than the present. Well done Dodie.
Dear dodie, Thank you so much for this song. I am from Poland and there is an election coming very soon. Sadly, our current president's tactic is to spread hate and allow the discrimination of LGBTQ+ people. Politicians say stuff like "LGBT is not people, it's an ideology", "They're not equal to normal people". And folks who support them are clapping and airing it on the news. This song gives me the feeling of understanding and acknowledging my pain. I know that you have Polish family. Maybe you could spread the word on social media about it? Either way, thank you so much. Love, your biggest fan
ugh this song is exactly how i feel about the police brutality, racism and downright murder going on in the world now. i share and sign lots of petitions and donate whenever i can but does anyone care? who am i to change the world when im just another someone on twitter? are we ever gonna get anywhere? feeling kinda hopeless and as a poc person, scared.
i love you so muCh but literally no matter how many times i try to cover one of ur songs all i can think about is how ANGELIC ur voice is and i get jealous then i just stop getting jealous and talk to my friends about how much i love you i dont know what i’m rambling about anymore
Is this filmed in a different frame rate than normal? It looks like its maybe 40fps or something? Whatever you've done it looks beautiful <3 Also I really love this song. Its exactly how i feel about the world.
Me, yesterday evening, to a friend : yeah twitter is shit we just scream at the void believing we will be heard dodie, her ear on the other side of the door : interesting start writing
omg, i was listening to this song for the too-many-times time, and just realized now that before you published this song i wrote a very short song that fits with this one (at least with some parts of it) lol
I am blown away by the scene you have set there to perform your song! The mirror, and then I noticed ALL THE GREEN! I'm wondering if that's just your favorite color, or if you did that intentionally. Please do not tell me; fans should wonder.
It's finding the balance between social media being a place of social influence and change and social media being a quiet place for expression. And the balance is such a fine, delicate line - and that's scary
hi yeah I couldn’t scroll by this in good conscience. I know the world is scary and unpredictable and I’ve honestly spent the last while doing the same as you because it can be overwhelming. it’s ok to cry it’s ok to sit around you have to give yourself time. we all have different methods of coping and I know when we see others who might have one we deem more “productive” it can put us down, but the thing to remember is to latch onto that small sliver of hope wherever it comes from, whether it’s solace in dodies music or in video chatting with your friends, hold onto the little things that make you happy, that make you smile, because even a small smile can make a difference and give someone else a chance at hope.
It does just feel like a place in which all I can do is shout but it doesn’t even matter because those in power just ignore us. But i have to remember that making noise is important and we have to make even just one extra person aware of happening in the world in order to make change
the kind of on edge vibe of this song is exactly what being on twitter is like. the constant underlying fear that something you say will be misinterpreted or someone will disagree with you, whilst you watch atrocities play out on your timeline and there’s nothing you can do. there’s so much misinformation, so much anger and so much fear but in the midst of all of that so much humour and light! i think like anything ultimately it’s about moderation and recognising that these platforms can be inherently toxic if used all the time. i have to force myself to take breaks, put restrictions on my phone or even delete the app just so i can breathe for a bit
The vibes from this are similar to burnt out, but darker. And the plucking pattern and rhythm reminds me a lot of rainbow. I really like it, it had elements of both songs while still being its own thing. It's really pretty.
lovin the fact that your shirt matches your drawers. also this is so dytopian-esque i'm in love with it, kept thinking that your reflection was gonna turn around and give an ominous movie stare lol
Hi there i hope your having a good day today. If you need to talk about something feel free to. I love you all ❤️❤️ and dodie is amazing i love all her songs
I've got chills and tears from how real this is. It constantly seems like nobody's heard or like there's no way to change any of it, but I hope that everyone listening to your music is inspired to push even further for change. I love all of your music and this song is no exception. I have no words for how deeply I connect to everything you write. You're truly inspirational and I hope that all of this will change.
I like the song. But i feel like to really capture twitter in a song you would have to throw a bunch of rocks into a washing machine while blasting both darude, sandstorm and megalovania at max. volume in the background
I just got a guitalele (and named it Innocentia). I wrote a song for it, thought it was good. and then I heard this and... I mean... it turns pale compared to your song, dodie
I really love this song. But now there may besome light at the and of the tunnel. Come Novermber, there're hundreds of million people who CAN do something, namely vote.
The refrain is so clever. The rhythm and word choice....... dang it’s good Also I forget that what happens in the US matters to other nations, like the fact that you originally wrote this after trumps election is very interesting to me. Bc we were scared about it (well some of us were) but it’s wild that normal people in England was also concerned. And obviously I get why, but it’s still weird to think about
I genuinely believe twitter and social media is one of things destroying our social discourse and irreparably damaging more people daily than any other single issue.
I messaged Dodie on Twitter once and never got a reply, possibly due to her getting a gazillion messages a day. Anyway I deleted twitter after 10 years of single handedly trying to inform the hopelessly ill informed. A thankless and depressing look into a dystopian world.

the first failure of society is the thought that one cannot act - i am sure that you see how people around the world is taking a stance for the better - well that depends on your stance and view - some say it`s anarchy - but what i see is people taking back what was stolen from The People - again that depends on your stance of view
rbg just died and i came here immediately. i can only hope there’s someone elected into her place with the same morals but i’m almost positive that it won’t happen...
i live in the most important state (wisconsin) in the USA for this election (ie. electoral college) to help defeat trump in november and i will be voting him out. that's what i can do. i hope that makes you feel one vote better. =)
Such a talent to write is a way that just hits ya bones. But also so so healing to hear something that truly speaks shows in a whole diffrent way you anit alone in what your feeling.
Okay but like the dodie in the mirror feels like a separate entity of her own that could rise up dramatically and strangle the real dodie anytime.... is it just me
I honestly don't know why Dodie is so underrated. This song is hauntingly beautiful!! She's nailed it yet again as a brilliant songwriter. I love you Dodie, for making great music while spreading an important message. Thank you.
This resonated so much. It felt so real and hit so hard with the way things are and I loved it. I want to say that it feels like a song from the Hunger Games but to say that this feeling can only be fiction would be a lie. It's an amazing song that brings a little more of an ominously spoken truth to the world and not gonna lie there's just a bit of an unending panic feeling behind everything right now that's a bit terrifying lol but most of us have very little control over the way things are. Twitter is a mess right now and there's so much hate going around. It breaks me to see so much pain where people had done nothing to deserve that pain. It all just stings a bit I guess but to anyone seeing this comment, please stay safe
This song is so sad. “‘Please open your mind,’ we sob from a screen.” “What do I do? What do we do? Nothing we can do.” 2020 in a nutshell. I came here to laugh but ended up crying... 😢
can't believe we dance for no one, in my mind a fire is burning, surrounded by a circle of caravans, shadows flicker in the flames and a dancer clicks her fingers, completely absorbed in movement, she dances for us all ...
Can you write a song that is a response to this one? One that uses some of the lyrics but flips it to be a song that calls for action and encourages others to use their seemingly small voice to make big changes. ......I think that would be a cool dichotomy.
listen. this song is the nice burn in your calves, leaves in the air swishing, climbing the soft-peaked hills, dodging tree roots, throwing up tan dust, coming upon a Renaissance in a clearing, sieved photons throwing themselves into gravity’s siren song before dismantling; a martyr for life.
I know the internet is such a toxic scary place. But please don’t even stop posting. I know it can feel like ur shouting into a void sometimes, but I hear you. And I want to keep hearing you. We all hear you.
With the ability to only see your hands moving in the mirror, it looks like you could have had your reflection playing something different and would have been so trippy.
I'm not much into twitter and can't say I grasp the full meaning of this - but still, it's one of the lovliest songs I've heard from you so far. Immediate classic that will go on repeat more than once for sure - I just hope I'll find it on Spotify and/or bandcamp? :) <3xo
Ps: I've just read the description. Aha! Now I get it. Maybe I should consider reading before commenting - but then I might not know what to say..? :D So uhm... nvm. Hugsies & TTFN!
Hey Dodie, you should consider checking out the International Songwriting Competition. All styles of original music are accepted and judges include Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Tom Waits, Bebe Rexha, and many more.
God Dodie, this is just so brilliant. Melody, phrasing, texture. You have really grown as a musician. Not only that but this song is just so powerful with life at the moment, everything feels like there is "nothing i can do". I live in South Australia, im so lucky to have has 0 new cases in the past 20 days and have no active cases in my state overall. But i still watch america go in flames and the whole world struggle. This is my year 12 year and i could be missing my formal/graduation. As a musician i have missed so many concerts i was going to play this year. It all just feels hopeless and that i am stuck not being able to do anything to help anyone.
I don’t know quite how you manage it. You can cover topics that are often very surreal and sinister, the lyrics crafted eloquently with subtle shades of darkness and gravity. Relatable in so many ways.
But, if I ignored the lyrics and listened to the softness of the tune, or the tone of your voice, I could forget the sinister meaning behind the words.
You’ve managed to mix the two together in a perfect blend of irony. You sing softly but about real, hard-hitting truths. And I love that.
Honestly I haven't been using much social media lately, I find my time is better spent reading, sewing, breathing, trying to catch up on my school work lol. The only exceptions are WhatsApp to talk to my friends coz lonely, YouTube to make me smile on a bad day and to discover jems like this, and Pinterest for writing advice, funny fandom posts, and pretty dresses to make, I keep all my boards private lol
On a more relevant note, I haven't used twitter since 2015-ish either, cause it's stopped making sense to me. I remember, once upon a time, when there were two types of people: 'I have twitter' and 'twitter is boring'. You could tell so much about them. I actually miss the early days of twitter. I miss everything internet-wise. Dang.
amazing song, but an idea would be if you split screen you singing the backing vocals in the mirror later into the song, idk how hard that is to edit personally but it would be an insane lil challenge
HI UM IDK IF ANYONE REMEMBERS THIS BUT I THINK SHE POSTED THIS ON HER INSTA STORY BEFORE AND IS THERE ANYONE ELSE THAT REMEMEBERS THIS OR AM I CRAZY!?!?
I feel like I've kept screaming that human rights shouldn't be a fucking debate into the void (aka conservatives) for the last two years. I relate to this far too much.
early!<3 I hope everyone who reads this knows that they’re loved & worthy :). everything will be okay soon. you don’t have to be productive, just keep breathing, that’s enough, you’re enough. I love u all <3.
Twitter's architecture as a platform is so broken. There needs to be another platform which doesn't have a commercial interest which lets us interact with each other
Damn YT is broken: I wrote a comment with chords 6 minutes before yours and, from another account, I cannot see it. Here are the chords (copy-paste from previous comment): --- Easy version ---
verses:
Dm | Bb C /x3
Bb C | (Dm)
pre-chorus:
Bb C | G /x2
chorus:
Dm | Bb C
--- Real version ---
verses:
Dm | Bbmaj7 Asus4/C /x3
Bbmaj7 Asus4/C | (Dm)
pre-chorus:
Bb C | G /x2
chorus:
Dm | Bbmaj7 Asus4/C
--- Notes ---
Asus4/C goes on guitar like that (from bass strings): X32230.
Or you can play Cadd9 instead (X32030).
Due to differences in notation, here are some translations:
Bb - B-dur, Dm - d-moll
Okay, I have started listening to songs by Dodie a while back from a playlist based on either an AJR song or Cavetown, I can't remember, but I just recently saw a video on TomSka's channel, the "17 ways to dump your girlfriend", and I noticed that it features Dodie!😱😱😱❤️💛💚💙💜💗 I had no idea and was so surprised! I was just watching those videos, you know, because TomSka, but I didn't expect to see one of my favorite music artists on any of them!
Anyway, it is easy to get scared for this nation and all the division, but thank you for sharing this video! Eventually, I'm sure, an answer will be reached. I mean, change has come before, and as hard as it is for some people to let go of some older beliefs brought by our ancestors, we have seen great amounts of change. At one point, most of us have stood together in doing harm by family and friends and neighbors, maybe not intentionally, but still. Now, most of us are able to see how we've hurt others and are trying to make amends. Never stop believing that there's hope, because whether we see it or not, there is always a reason to have it at your side!❤️💛💚💙💜💗 Have a great day/night/whatever time of day it is for you!
I might just be a dummy since I know very little music theory, but the "Nothing we can do" part seems to work on both 3/4 AND in 4/4 and I'm real confused? Does anyone who's smarter than me know what time signature it's actually in? Or is it one of those fancy polyrhythms?
I don’t care if I live to see tomorrow (has nothing to do with the state of the world). Ive been going down a dark path for awhile. I have no goal. I have no friends. I have no hope. Funny how that works out.
People shut off their logical side of their brain when they start talking about their worldviews. I don’t care enough to fight about what I believe. It doesn’t matter. We all die. Hopefully my turn comes soon.
are you okay? you don’t look very okay. also if anyone needs this today, your loved stay outa the comments they’re not generally a good place to hang out in
Oh Dodie, you can't even imagine how terrible things are in Brazil. "Our" president is truly the person I hate the most in the whole world! Everything is wrong, everyone is dying and no one seems to care and ahhh I swear I hate this man! He's homophobic, racist, sexist, aggressive and stands for everything that's bad for everyone! I truly hate it all but I'm just so scared... Your song describes what i feel better than my words could ever do.

23 likesIt’s the most unreliable source of information I’ve ever seen lol
25 likes@mrtheluckybucket Depends on who you follow. You get very instant, up-to-date information. If you can be critical about the source then it's great.
33 likesHere’s the thing: it’s simultaneously the most reliable and the most unreliable source of information, and there is very little way to know which it is
61 likes@Scout Forbes that's what makes it so unreliable
8 likes@Scout Forbes yeah that's also true. most of the time we get first hand and up-to-date information practically right after it's happened. but sadly not all of that inso is true (or maybe it is but they gave it a bad twist) and that's why it's so frustrating
8 likes@Katy And how much of this information, even only considering the reliable info, directly affects you? How many times has the outcome of your day actually been impacted by anything on twitter?
4 likesAnd the news is constantly censoring stuff, tik tok was my source of protest stuff bc I don't have Twitter, but now tik tok is deleting videos with "guns" in them, mostly police handling rubber bullet guns
6 likes@gorak9000 quite a lot actually- both in terms of mood and action. I follow a lot of activists, politicians, authors, journalists... especially when referring to Scottish politics, this really allows you to organise and rally.

I T WAS REALLY HARD THANK U i had to retrain my brain
334 likes@doddleoddle u did amazing it sounds so clean ! what timing is it in can I ask ?
28 likes@Grace Price Hey!!
83 likesthe chorus is so clean and nicely done and awesome
3 likes@Emily Francesca I don't really know music theory at all, so this was super helpful!

41 likesTwitter is full of specific cells of people, none of them honest, and a much smaller population of people who came to it before it became the breeding ground of nightmares it is today.
42 likesPaul Beverage I think I may have worded it wrong, not more informed but engaged. How I would describe it as, seeing things on Twitter made me go further into the topic and actually research. By far, Twitter is one of the worst ways to get reliable information. But, it does help me get me to the good information, if that makes sense.
28 likesCurrently I’ve deleted twitter and been mostly staying off social media (besides Youtube) so I do agree with you that being disconnected makes people a lot more happier. Also, I’m not going on twitter for a very long time.

196 likes"I will write, I will craft, watch me work through the pain " this just got to me. sometimes i treat twitter like it's my personal diary and it's become one of my ways to cop. but besides, the way you put how many of us try to make a change by tweeting is so beautiful and accurate. and yeah, sometimes it may feel like we really are screaming at no one or shouting into the dark, but at least we're raising our voices and that's important. this song was beautiful dodie
42 likesyour harmony has been so haunting lately - beautiful!
54 likesalso: this is officially "dodie green", right? :P
Oh gosh this song is just so powerful. I especially love the line “not much to do but smile too hard, but I’m laughing with no one” I’ll be thinking of that one for a long while
33 likesI remember you sang the first part of this song on Instagram a couple years back and I was OBSESSED, I wanted to so badly for you to finish it and now it's here I'm so happy!! It's just so beautifully hunting
14 likeslyrics to this beautiful yet ominous song- Here I am just another shout into the dark
6 likesYou would think, we'd be loud enough, to cause a spark
But half the world cover their ears and cry
So we're screaming at no one
Screaming at no one
Mmmmm
Raise your arms raise your voice no one wants what we'll get
We're all scared here, with the future that's set
We will not stand still and watch it burn
But we're dancing for no one
Dancing for no one
The higher we build
The harder to see
Paint over your strokes
And the ink will just bleed
Please open your mind
We beg from a screen
What do I do
What do we do
Nothing we can do
Tell me now, I am begging tell me are we okay?
I will write, I will craft, watch me work through the pain
Not much to do but smile too hard
But I'm laughing with no one
Laughing with no one
The higher we build
The harder to see
Paint over your strokes
And the ink will just bleed
Please open your mind
We sob from a screen
The higher we build
The harder to see
People only believe
What they need to believe
Please open your mind
We sob from a screen
What do I do
What do we do
Nothing we can do
(There must be something we can do)
WAIT DOES IT HAVE A TITLE?? THIS SONG IS AMAZING!!

12 likesThough I appreciate passion and anger at issues, I do want people to remember that change happens slowly.
8 likesAs our world advances, large scale change is made comparatively quicker than before, but it still feels long to us.
Stay safe and stay strong y’all ❤️❤️
"paint over your strokes

I love this metaphor so much.
This song reminds me of what my dad told me when he was diagnosed with cancer, “if you can’t do anything about it why worry”
12 likesHe’s fine now
The elegance, the beauty, the grace, the poise. Amazing Dodie!
2 likesp.s. also happy pride everyone 🏳️🌈
Anyone else notice around 2:28 the lighting changes? Idk if that's intentional or not but it's really neat until throughout the end of the song
83 likesReplies (3)
yes, it seems intentional.
0 likesShe said in a comment that it was just a happy coincidence
3 likesthe light change makes me imagine it as the people panicking because they want to change things but keep getting blocked by immovable obstacles. I hope I make sense

Well I'm glad we live in such time where we genuinely have this openness and empathy for one another. But damn, how true it is to have so many people refuse to listen."
this is the deepest thing anyone has said about twitter since literally the world and my heart wasn't expecting this level of emotion yet i can't stop listening because of course its dodie

you check your watch.
its 2020.
i've been waiting this song for years! i vividly remember listening a bit of it in a couple instagram stories when dodie still had short hair... the "what do I do , what do we do, nothing we can do" part really glued in my head for quite a while and I bet it will be again
10 likesGoddamn I love this song. If I could make music I'd extend it. The composition is subtle and powerful. Every tone flows in and out without a trace. That quiet inhale was good
2 likesI’ve never had Twitter for two reasons: nobody in my country uses it, and there is so much negativity in it.
54 likesReplies (2)
ITS SO BAD!!! I only have it for news updates from other countries.
3 likesHonestly want to delete it. It’s a cesspool for trolls.
its been shit after 2014 dont worry
0 likesIf hunger games was still being filmed this would’ve been in it. Such an eerie atmosphere yet intriguing, I’m in love!
4 likesokay this song is beautiful but also the first second I see dodies face in a video I get this feeling of "it's gonna be okay. though you may not be okay rn, u will be one day." THANK YOU
14 likesDodie if you read this: I really don't want to put any pressure on u with this comment I think it's just a connection in my mind and there's nothing you could/should do about it.
i know no one will read this but i remember dodie singing this on a instagram live stream and i loved the concept of it, so i tried to write down the lyrics, i have it somewhere on my journal and i’m so happy she posted this again after like 2/3 years 🥺🥺
3 likesThis was fitting in 2017 but somehow just as fitting now. Dodie, you are such a skilled songwriter. I strive to write like you every time I write a song. If we stand together we can make a difference!
2 likesI am so in awe at this song, didn't even know your songs could get any better than they all already are but wow! This is something. Thank you for expressing so much
2 likesThis made me cry. You’re so talented dodie!
2 likeseveryone on twitter is just trying to make a change and it's so painful when we shout so loud but it's all behind glass, behind a screen. and we go out to protests and sign petitions and try to break that barrier, but they still lock us in, make us out to be the bad ones. we will be the ones with sharp pains in our feet, once we shatter that glass and it lands on the floor. but it's worth it, because they will be forced to hear our pleas. they will have nothing to hide behind.

0 likesdodie is one of those people who always can find the right words for the current situation and then make them sound THAT beautifully tragic. So. Much. Talent.
5 likesThank you dodie.
2 likesIt’s frustrates me that this probably won’t get released as Dodie has played it here. Such a well written song!

1 likeThis feels like an anthem to apathy and surrender, and sometimes that's what feels safe. But I don't think it's the right move right now, or the right message. I appreciated the sound and the beautiful lyrics, but the last thing we need is complacency.
3 likesThat said, you captured the feelings of the youth fairly well; we're all scared that our actions won't bring lasting change because the people in power just casually want us all to die lmao
Dang Dodie... When I first saw the title I was like “here we go 😒...” but wow. This is really really well written lyrically and such a cool and beautiful composition. Nice work! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 for me.
1 likethank you so much for writing this, it’s exhausting and disheartening seeing the ignorance and hate in people. we will be heard though, these are hopefully the years of change. thank you again, this is gorgeous <3

0 likesI loved this so much! Will this be on Spotify? I wanna listen to it a bunch more! It’s so ominous and kinda dark and got such a feeling of hopelessness to it but it’s also just bitterly true which I feel adds so much to the song as a whole.... and the harmonies! 👌 beautiful

i love this song cause whenever im on twitter i am SO SO SO much different than how i am usually
0 likesSuch a hauntingly beatiful song.

0 likesThere must be something we can do!!!!!
0 likesThis is WONDERFUL 🦋
This is the most beautiful song about twitter, ever. How could you make something really beautiful out of something rather ordinary? You always amaze me ♡♡♡
0 likesConsidering the time period when you wrote this song, it's doesn't surprise me that the lyrics are so devoid of hope (Although, being a person who always searches for the silver lining, I really liked the countermelody going "There must be something we can do").
1 likeIt also fascinates me that this song can also be linked to people having to be in quarantine.
What i like most about dodie’s songs is that they can tell powerful meaning by peaceful singing ❤️❤️😱

1 likeThank you for coming to my tedtalk.
Dodie has the signature “multiple dodie voices in the background” and I can’t get through a song without waiting to hear it
1 likeI can't be the only one crying at this. It's so well written and beautiful and just rings so true.
0 likesI love you so much. This is such a beautifully written song and too true.
0 likesI keep coming back to this song. Maybe because of the interesting time signature at the chorus. Maybe because of how terrifyingly relatable the lyrics are. Or maybe because of the soothing color palette that you use in your recent videos, including this one.
0 likesWhatever the real reasons are, I just want to say that your music is magical because it speaks to me, Dodie 💛
I recognize you soul💛

90 likesThis reminds me of a sad western about the world changing and it’s so sad but hopeful in a way. It’s so beautiful. Thank you dodie ♥️
0 likesYour singing and songwriting talent is so high level. Also you have a very fetching profile!
0 likesYou have one of the most unique voices ever. It’s so beautiful 😍!!!!!!!!!!!!
0 likesWow dodie that was so emotional and heartaking, i can see it played in a protest, so so powerful
0 likesThis really does capture the feeling of screaming into the void that is twitter right now.
0 likesBut also, I really love how this is framed with the mirror.
Please let this be on the next album 💕
0 likesthis is haunting yet beautiful ✨
0 likesI thought the lyrics went "we saw it from a screen" before I read the description and I thought that was reffering to the murder of George Floyd and it gave me chills. Also it's scary how something you wrote so long ago can be applied to our situation today. The atmosphere does feel an awful lot like it did back then.
0 likes2017 was the first year I could vote and it was so incredibly disheartening.
0 likesThe lyrics so precise, the message so relevant, the tune so aerials by soad, and it makes it complete
0 likesFinally!! I loved the little snippet of this song you made on Instagram and after all this time I wasn't expecting the full thing but it's really good.

0 likesMy school started again today and the whole time I just felt extremely scared and powerless and even tho your song wasn't written about the situation right now, it really helped because you expressed those feelings Thank You (:

0 likesthis reminds me of the morning after a bad night, with wind chimes hauntingly beautiful melodies. thank you for the song. 💖
0 likesI got eallymattacked on Twitter today by a fandom I thought mae me feel safe... the panicky undertones in this song perfectly matched my mood... also good job maintaining the key signature over those chorus hemiolas that looked hArd
0 likesLove it. Sounds like a modern sound for Biblical Ecclesiastes or some other cynic who loves beauty and longs for good
0 likesok but who else thinks dodie deserves the world for what she does? she’s a fantastic singer and inspiration to all. she inspired me to make a youtube channel, what a legend.
21 likesif i had to name this song, i would name it “cultural scars” or “silence”
1 likeThis reminds me so much of my feelings towards the climate crisis omg. I want to believe everything will be okay but there are so many people who don't take it seriously that OUR FUCKING PLANET is dying and I feel like I'm screaming and begging and they're like "yeah but... that wouldn't be good for the economy. You'll understand that when you're older"
0 likesSo we're watching it burn.
Dodie, I freaking love you <3
Your singing continues to be the most raw and grounding music I've found.

0 likesthis is so good :( "please open your mind, we sob from a screen" is really all that happens on twitter. we're all just crying about things that affect us but the people who need to hear it won't listen
0 likesThis is my favorite track of yours, love the hopeless lyrics of our atomic bomb of postmodernistic knowledge and constant arpeggios of that chord structure more fitting for the intro scene of 28 days later.
0 likesAhhh I remember you posting this on Instagram ages ago and I’ve been waiting for MONTHS MAYBE YEARS FOR THIS 💛💛💛
0 likes“nothing we can do” this is hopeless yet every now n then i remember that i can do nothing to make the world better makes me feel less guilty about problems
1 likeafter all there's nothing you can do to stop bad things. it's sad yet so calming....
you can't stop death of a loved ones, you can just look at them and remember that you can't do anything to help. you can't .
“nothing we can do”
read the title and my first thought was "that's a risky move"
13 likesМолодец, Додяша! Прекрасное исполнение

0 likesI've always wanted this on spotifyyyyyyy - it's so good
1 likethe refrain (“what do I do”) is so well-crafted! the way your melody plays with the rhythm there is so genius! it’s like the melody is played in a 3/4 time signature, but it’s actually still playing in 4/4. Wow. :)
0 likesThis song is going to play in my head every time I tweet and get 0 interactions.

55 likesGot me to uninstall Twitter, something I've been contemplating for a year now.
0 likesIt's a hellscape of voices, all screaming to be heard, so loud no one can hear anything.
This has some Caligula's Horse vibes and I love it. Like a really soft CH. So good.
0 likesAnd the harmonies! So goodddd
This is awesome.
1 likeps. I saw your collaboration with Pomplamoose, and Maddie Poppe and that was also awesome.
“THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WE CAN DO”

Please hang on... There must be something we can do.
0 likesEvery single song by dodie makes my heart hurt and heal at the same time. The satisfaction of how perfectly she articulates complex and complicated feelings, but also the ache from the collective pain we all share.
0 likesNot gonna lie, the end of the song lost me </3 There’s so much we can do!
0 likesso good!
10 likesyou just helped me through my panic attack. Thank u :)
0 likesYour voice is just SO beautiful, my goodness
0 likesI'm so glad I'm taking my time to not be on twitter.
0 likesIf u love twitter and conversing there, I totally get you! I used to love it too. But it's also totally fine to cool off a bit and think through everything without so much rage.
this is why I deleted twitter after like a month of making an account

37 likeslegit all of your songs give me chills and this one especially ahhhhh
0 likesThis song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of shouting rage and pain into an uncaring void. Especially with all the overlapping voices at the end, like all your feelings are building and then fade into silence.
0 likesIdk about you guys, but this song really is soo accurate and perfectly timed with the way a lot of people are feeling right now, i loved it!!
0 likesThank you dodie for putting the difficult feelings into words once again🙂
dodes you have a platform and people who follow you and look up to you and while that is undoubtedly pressuring you can use it for good and you clearly are :))

1 likeWonderful. I wish I could reach this level of songrwiting.
0 likesThe way your voice is incredibly soft and smooth but your picking is frantic and steady, it gives off a feeling of panic and unease whilst being so relaxing at the same time which I feel is the emotion of social media. It's so relaxing and calming but also so fast and repetitive. Another incredible song ❤
0 likesthis is so beautiful !! ❤️❤️
0 likesPlease listen to this song. Communication solves everything. Sitting around vilifying your opponents, straw manning their opinions and censoring them, won’t work.

This video is very aesthetically pleasing 💚
0 likesthe sun heard dodie singing a song and went “oh dang!!!! That’s a good song!!!! Lemme help. Imma make some real cool symbolic lighting. Niiiiiiiiiice.”
1 likeVery nicely written. I think we all experienced these feelings one way or another. Especially during these days. We want to raise our voice, speak up. But the harder we speak, the more energy it costs. The more tired we get. Twitter truly is a blessing and a curse for that matter
0 likesAww this is simply beautiful! 👌

0 likesThank You.
0 likesHonestly, I could have been comforted by this song back in 2017.
That has never worked before so there is no reason to think it will work this time.
this is super beautiful but let's take a minute to appreciate the general color scheme of this video?
0 likesUsing this to start a discussion about healthy social media boundaries with my family 🤙🤙

0 likesThe problem and hypocrisy i find with the western world(which i live in fortunately or unfortunately, you can be the judge) is that kindness, love for thy neighbour and vocal support for the oppressed comes from a position of comfort.
1 likethe most realistic part is that there's nothing we can do 😞 and that's why i love this song, it is meaningful, but down to earth 💕
0 likesi was just wondering "hmm what might dodie be up to??" so thank you!! this is beautiful

1 likei needed something like this today. thanks dodie.
0 likesLove this song- but honestly I may have a soft spot for this tone/progression, it's a lot like "soul of a man"
0 likesI needed this right now 💙
0 likesIt's almost 1:00 right now and I'm crying. this song seems so peaceful at first but it's so heavy I can feel it in my chest pressing down but your voice feels so light and airy like I'm floating watching the earth from another body yet the songs' masked in hopelessness and the lyrics omg the lyrics it feels like I can taste every syllable, every word is piercing through me and it's too intense too intense but it moves me so much I cant breathe
0 likesI need this on spotify 🥰
0 likesthe last part with overlapped chants of "nothing we can do" and "there must be something we can do" also felt like a battle cry for 2020 currently
0 likesmy lordy this is the most gorgeous ahhh 🥰 dodie dodie dodie you're the most talented soothing angel
0 likesalso honestly same. been so close to having a break from twitter recently but also i want to stay connected and i want to help the movement but idk if it's even helping or if it's making it worse and agh it's tough x x x
This songs feels so surreal to me because it reminds me of feeling like no matter how hard we fight for equal rights, nothing happens. “What do I do what do we do? Nothing we can do.” Just feels so panicked and helpless
0 likesMan, the arrangements are so little and yet the songs are always very rich. The guitar is soft behind, the lyrics are simple, the voice is just on point, where it should be, the softness at the right time, the harmonies. It's soft and beautiful, powerfull even.
0 likesamazing, beautiful, love this, thank you
0 likesThe camera angle is great with you in the mirror and the song is gorgous thanks :)

0 likesi love her voice so much
0 likesYou could’ve told us you write this yesterday and it’d still be scarily relevant, times really haven’t changed
0 likesThe tempo of the “what do I do” section is so addicting. Idk how to describe it but it’s like a rolling wave that u just go over and over again, just like social media where it’s loops of shouting, attention, drama, then it all goes away
0 likesAs beautiful and heart-wrenching as always🤍🖤
0 likesI seriously cried at this song
1 likei want to do a cover of this song
1 likeedit: i cannot for the life of me figure out the rhythm of the chorus
edit2: ok i just figured it out and it's brilliant
I can’t get over how beautiful your voice is but what’s even better is how well it matches the amazing songs you write ❤️
0 likesI knew before even clicking on this video that she would make me feel better but then I listened to these lyrics and felt this peace I didn't know I had the capacity to feel in the midst of all this? Such beautiful writing and singing, as usual. Never underestimate the power of art to remind us that we aren't the only ones who feel this way and we're always less alone than we think. Who knew a hopeless song was just what I needed to bring me a bit of hope I think. Thank you Dodie!!!
0 likesi hear the entire string arrangement in my head. oh the mind of musicians
1 likeI been needing a song like this in these times tbh.
0 likesI feel this helplessness on twitter so much but I always end up coming back to it as I find it to be such a reliable news outlet...but at the same time it gives a warped view of how the world really is in two ways; in your echo chamber you think everyone thinks like you do and when you somehow come into contact with Union Jack twitter and you think that the world is full of people are completely vile.
0 likesThis is heartbreaking and so strikingly true and I hate it (but I love it)
0 likesi cant even express how much i adore you

0 likesI imagine a future archaeologist "ting ting ting" discovering buried in rock "ting ting ting" a hard drive from our time.

0 likesher layering is always so so exquisite
0 likesDear dodie,
0 likesThank you so much for this song.
Love,
your biggest fan
I can't tell if I feel anxious or inspired because of this song and i think that's the point? Wonderful work, Dodie <3

1 likeugh this song is exactly how i feel about the police brutality, racism and downright murder going on in the world now. i share and sign lots of petitions and donate whenever i can but does anyone care? who am i to change the world when im just another someone on twitter? are we ever gonna get anywhere? feeling kinda hopeless and as a poc person, scared.

0 likesMe, yesterday evening, to a friend : yeah twitter is shit we just scream at the void believing we will be heard
0 likesdodie, her ear on the other side of the door : interesting start writing
I literally don’t understand how people can dislike such wholesome music??
0 likesThis is simply something we all need rn.
0 likesomg, i was listening to this song for the too-many-times time, and just realized now that before you published this song i wrote a very short song that fits with this one (at least with some parts of it) lol
0 likesAs someone who writes songs as a coping mechanism "I will write, I will craft, watch me work through the pain" Gave me all the feels!
0 likesисключительно трогательно и красиво
0 likesi think we can all agree that dodie is one of the best poets on earth rn
0 likesThis is hauntingly beautiful
0 likesthis is great, beautiful and a little sad 😍
0 likesomg!!! you made that tenor sound like a guitar - or is it a baritone? what chords are those? just wow & your voice & expressions !!!
0 likesThis one is begging for a studio version. ;)
0 likesNot that this cut isn't excellent in it's own Dodie charm way.
I keep coming back to listen to this song, so goooooood
0 likesIt’s a grave injustice that you can only like a video once
0 likesliterally the only human being who can make a song about twitter good
0 likesI am blown away by the scene you have set there to perform your song! The mirror, and then I noticed ALL THE GREEN! I'm wondering if that's just your favorite color, or if you did that intentionally. Please do not tell me; fans should wonder.
0 likesthis is beautiful thank you
0 likesbeautiful song and voice
0 likesIt's finding the balance between social media being a place of social influence and change and social media being a quiet place for expression. And the balance is such a fine, delicate line - and that's scary
0 likesShe reminds me of newt scamander in the most calming way.
1 likeThis sounds fricking awesome also would go great on Witcher!
0 likesCan you please add this to Spotifyyyyy I love it
0 likesI’m listening to this while trying to get over my twitter addiction.
0 likeswell at least you're taking your pain and fear and anger and turning it into art all i do is sit around and cry
1 likeReplies (1)
hi yeah I couldn’t scroll by this in good conscience.
0 likesThis video just made my day thank you
0 likespleaseeeeeeeeeeeee post this on spotify. this is precious
0 likesalways love ur song❤️
0 likesSending only love, keep going x
0 likesSuch a beautiful piece 🖤 it should be a Black Mirror soundtrack
0 likesYet again the only word I can use to describe this is ethereal
0 likesIt does just feel like a place in which all I can do is shout but it doesn’t even matter because those in power just ignore us. But i have to remember that making noise is important and we have to make even just one extra person aware of happening in the world in order to make change
0 likesWooow how great you are- Your song!! I love it!
0 likesPlease for the love god let this be on spotify now/soon
0 likesThe feeling I got through this was the same as when I watch cmbyn
0 likesme and my mom were cleaning the house and intertwined played from my playlist and she said she didn’t like your voice...
0 likesand so yeah that’s the story of why i’m moving out tomorrow
the kind of on edge vibe of this song is exactly what being on twitter is like. the constant underlying fear that something you say will be misinterpreted or someone will disagree with you, whilst you watch atrocities play out on your timeline and there’s nothing you can do. there’s so much misinformation, so much anger and so much fear but in the midst of all of that so much humour and light! i think like anything ultimately it’s about moderation and recognising that these platforms can be inherently toxic if used all the time. i have to force myself to take breaks, put restrictions on my phone or even delete the app just so i can breathe for a bit
0 likesI really do love you, dodie. <3
0 likesoh my god i remember hearing this on your insta(?) like 3 years ago and obsessing over the snippet and it’s finally here
1 likePowerful ... scary as the times we life in.
0 likesThis is so beautiful omg
0 likesi love her and this soooo much
0 likesThe vibes from this are similar to burnt out, but darker. And the plucking pattern and rhythm reminds me a lot of rainbow. I really like it, it had elements of both songs while still being its own thing. It's really pretty.
0 likesim so glad you add the lyrics in the description because the subtitles do not like this song... haha . you should sell this in your next album.
0 likesJeez why is Dodie such a bloody amazing songwriter
0 likesSo beautiful, your voice is just annh!

0 likesholy heck you're so pretty and oh my god this is amazing
0 likesThis song sounds like a song that would be played at an end of a movie when they give credits and stuff, it’s sounds really good
0 likeslovin the fact that your shirt matches your drawers. also this is so dytopian-esque i'm in love with it, kept thinking that your reflection was gonna turn around and give an ominous movie stare lol
0 likesThe funny thing is, I was actually considering getting a twitter account before I heard this. Now, I'm not so sure.
0 likesthis sounds like it could be in the last of us, the vibes are immaculate
0 likesGosh. I found dodie when I turned 19. Now I'm 24, it's like evertime I see a new video I think, "wow, we've grown up so much, and its really scary."
0 likesThis is really good. Great way to sum up current affairs tbh
0 likeslove it ✨
0 likesHi there i hope your having a good day today. If you need to talk about something feel free to. I love you all ❤️❤️ and dodie is amazing i love all her songs

0 likesI was hoping something happy... but damn this hits a lot
0 likesYou are incredible in every way.
0 likesThis gave me chills omg
0 likesI've got chills and tears from how real this is.
0 likesI REMEMBER U PUT THIS ON UR INSTA STORY LIKE A YEAR AGO AND I SCREEN RECORDED IG SONI COULD LISTEN TO IT AHAIN BECAUSE ITS BEAUTIFUL
0 likesThank you for your contribution
0 likesGod bless dodie 💛💛💛💛
0 likesThis really just do be capturing all of our feelings about rn huh?
0 likesi love the new shelves😚 throwback to when you were so excited about them shipping in the mail 😂
0 likesThis is song when we see the imperfections in our world
0 likesI like the song. But i feel like to really capture twitter in a song you would have to throw a bunch of rocks into a washing machine while blasting both darude, sandstorm and megalovania at max. volume in the background
0 likesThe colors on this! I love it!!
0 likesI just got a guitalele (and named it Innocentia). I wrote a song for it, thought it was good. and then I heard this and... I mean... it turns pale compared to your song, dodie
0 likesThe mirrors reflection is the closest thing we’ll get to swing what strumming pattern and chords Dodie uses 😂
0 likesHoly crap this song is beautiful and so relevant. Nice. Job. Wow.
0 likestbh I never ever have the energy for twitter. there’s so much info on instagram, youtube and google that’s less tiring.
1 likeDodie’s songs always speak to people
0 likesThe mini harmonies in her songs are so refreshing
0 likescan you please put this on spotify? 😳
0 likesTHIS IS SO SO SO BEAUTIFUL AND HAUNTING WOWOWO
0 likesYOU ARE SO AMAZING
1 likethis is so beautiful wow
0 likesI really love this song.
0 likesBut now there may besome light at the and of the tunnel. Come Novermber, there're hundreds of million people who CAN do something, namely vote.
I love how this is shot, just being able to see the ukulele in the mirror
0 likesthat is really really really beautiful... what did I just hear...? :’)
0 likesThe refrain is so clever. The rhythm and word choice....... dang it’s good Also I forget that what happens in the US matters to other nations, like the fact that you originally wrote this after trumps election is very interesting to me. Bc we were scared about it (well some of us were) but it’s wild that normal people in England was also concerned. And obviously I get why, but it’s still weird to think about
0 likesThis song is very beautiful.
0 likesWhat a voice!!!!
0 likesI genuinely believe twitter and social media is one of things destroying our social discourse and irreparably damaging more people daily than any other single issue.
0 likesthis is so beautiful
0 likesi love how sort of.. ominous? the chords are i love i love i love i LOVE
0 likesI love it.
0 likesDoesnt resemple any music i ve heard before - a new doddie style🙃😉
Oh look! Another song of Dodie I’m now obsessed with.
0 likesGrrrrreattt
I... actually don't really have words for this.. the melody, harmonies, lyrics, your way of singing... the despair combined with calmness.. Woah... 😮
0 likesi have been waiting for this song since she played it on her insta story
0 likesdodie yellow is weeping with all the sage green but i AM HERE FOR IT 😍 also this is incredible 🥺🥺
0 likesI love you so much you absolute angel.

0 likesFrom now on I’m going to respond to bigots on twitter with this
0 likesYAY I've been checking everyday for a new video, I'm so excited ( :
0 likesIt was worth it!!
this is how i feel about twitter too. i can't stand it
0 likesOh my GOD is this beautiful!
0 likesthis can easily be used in a dystopian film
0 likesI love you this is exactly what i was looking for
0 likesim actually getting goosebumps
1 likeI messaged Dodie on Twitter once and never got a reply, possibly due to her getting a gazillion messages a day. Anyway I deleted twitter after 10 years of single handedly trying to inform the hopelessly ill informed. A thankless and depressing look into a dystopian world.
0 likespeople like you deserve to live in a better time
0 likesThis is beautifully tragic.
0 likesthe first failure of society is the thought that one cannot act - i am sure that you see how people around the world is taking a stance for the better - well that depends on your stance and view - some say it`s anarchy - but what i see is people taking back what was stolen from The People - again that depends on your stance of view
0 likesBeautiful song
0 likesI had a feeling I should delete my Twitter account. Then this video was made. Dang timing is weird.
0 likesWow I thought this would be a rather light song that mildly roasts Twitter,
1 likebut wow.

0 likesJesus Christ, this is superb and haunting and resonates so strongly with me. Such talent.
0 likesthat chorus is really strange and doesnt go in the direction you expect it to go but it flows so nicelyy
0 likesI love this song because you can be from either side of the political spectrum and still feel the importance of these words.
0 likesI was expecting cheesy lyrics with modern words in it, but daaaang was I wrong!
0 likesTwitter culture is the antithesis of intelectualism. Beautiful song tho
0 likespetition for someone to make a dystopian film and use this as part of the soundtrack
0 likesrbg just died and i came here immediately. i can only hope there’s someone elected into her place with the same morals but i’m almost positive that it won’t happen...
0 likesthis song lives in my mind rent free
0 likesthe best way to describe twitter is everybody yelling at once
0 likesCan't wait to one day here that Dodie is writing a song for James Bond
0 likesi live in the most important state (wisconsin) in the USA for this election (ie. electoral college) to help defeat trump in november and i will be voting him out. that's what i can do. i hope that makes you feel one vote better. =)
1 likeGreat song, but nothing to hear on a rainy Monday like today in Germany ... leaves you in a really sad 😢 mood
0 likesOof just oof
0 likesSuch a talent to write is a way that just hits ya bones. But also so so healing to hear something that truly speaks shows in a whole diffrent way you anit alone in what your feeling.

0 likesshe's an angel change my mind
0 likesOkay but like the dodie in the mirror feels like a separate entity of her own that could rise up dramatically and strangle the real dodie anytime.... is it just me
0 likesthat is beautifully dark, and I think still fitting
0 likesAmazing dodie. Just amazing
0 likesthis was posted on my bday best present ;A; I love you so much dodie!!! <3333
0 likesI honestly don't know why Dodie is so underrated. This song is hauntingly beautiful!! She's nailed it yet again as a brilliant songwriter. I love you Dodie, for making great music while spreading an important message. Thank you.
0 likesI WAS WAITING FOR THIS SONG SINCE YOU POSTED IT ON YOUR INSTAGRAM STORIES A FEW YEARS AGO
0 likeshonestly expected this to just be inherent screaming for 3 min straight
0 likesThey should play this song in a movie or show
0 likesI have twitter but I’m not into it deep enough for it to be toxic
1 likeThis resonated so much.
0 likescan this be uploaded to Spotify???? please.
0 likesAMAZING, THE TALENT
0 likesNice. A bit haunting. I have listened to this 3 times in a row now.
0 likesI like it. I love your picking style on this one. Someday you will come back to Portland so I can hear it live?
0 likesThis song is so sad. “‘Please open your mind,’ we sob from a screen.” “What do I do? What do we do? Nothing we can do.” 2020 in a nutshell. I came here to laugh but ended up crying... 😢
0 likesOhhh! We can do soooo much !! We are powerful!!!
0 likesI've stopped having panic attacks about Twitter and started having panic attacks about time signatures.
0 likesReally cool how your reflection sang harmony.
0 likescan't believe we dance for no one, in my mind a fire is burning, surrounded by a circle of caravans, shadows flicker in the flames and a dancer clicks her fingers, completely absorbed in movement, she dances for us all ...
0 likesCan you write a song that is a response to this one? One that uses some of the lyrics but flips it to be a song that calls for action and encourages others to use their seemingly small voice to make big changes. ......I think that would be a cool dichotomy.
0 likesLife is significantly better without social media
1 likeLOVE THIS
0 likeslisten. this song is the nice burn in your calves, leaves in the air swishing, climbing the soft-peaked hills, dodging tree roots, throwing up tan dust, coming upon a Renaissance in a clearing, sieved photons throwing themselves into gravity’s siren song before dismantling; a martyr for life.
0 likesrandom question but, are all the strings on your ukulele low tuned? love yous o much! xx
1 likeHow do you make the ukelele sound beautifully forlorn, I strum a minor chord and it still sounds like rainbows and smiles!
0 likesthis sounds like it would be used in an episode of grey's anatomy
0 likesI’m just a black woman trying to survive but everyone on Twitter makes me SO ANGRY
0 likesI love it!
0 likesYouTube is on drugs and this is just beautiful so far.
2 likesFor the first few seconds there I thought you had produced a song for the new Last of Us game... another beautiful track from you.
0 likesI know the internet is such a toxic scary place. But please don’t even stop posting. I know it can feel like ur shouting into a void sometimes, but I hear you. And I want to keep hearing you. We all hear you.
0 likesWith the ability to only see your hands moving in the mirror, it looks like you could have had your reflection playing something different and would have been so trippy.
0 likesI'm not much into twitter and can't say I grasp the full meaning of this - but still, it's one of the lovliest songs I've heard from you so far. Immediate classic that will go on repeat more than once for sure - I just hope I'll find it on Spotify and/or bandcamp? :)
0 likes<3xo
Ps: I've just read the description. Aha! Now I get it. Maybe I should consider reading before commenting - but then I might not know what to say..? :D
So uhm... nvm. Hugsies & TTFN!
Hauntingly beautiful
0 likesWill you release this on Spotify?
0 likesHey Dodie, you should consider checking out the International Songwriting Competition. All styles of original music are accepted and judges include Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Tom Waits, Bebe Rexha, and many more.
0 likesTwitter can be the best and the worst. It can mess with you , please be careful and take a break if you need to
1 likeGod Dodie, this is just so brilliant.
0 likesMelody, phrasing, texture.
I feel like I remember this one from like 2 years ago on her instagram story
0 likesbut actually this is vibe i get when i go on twitter
0 likesOMG! you didn’t spend 4 hours on your makeup 💄?! J.K your makeup 💄 is fine. pretty song. Very idealistic
0 likes“Just after trump was elected”
0 likesOh boy didn’t this age like milk
Beautiful Inside and Out 💙🖤💔
0 likesI don’t know quite how you manage it. You can cover topics that are often very surreal and sinister, the lyrics crafted eloquently with subtle shades of darkness and gravity. Relatable in so many ways.
0 likesBut, if I ignored the lyrics and listened to the softness of the tune, or the tone of your voice, I could forget the sinister meaning behind the words.
You’ve managed to mix the two together in a perfect blend of irony. You sing softly but about real, hard-hitting truths. And I love that.
Can anyone tell me the chords for this?x
1 likewe can do it if we believe we can, I believe we can....do you?
0 likesthe fact that she lives in the UK and can still smell trump’s stench. i’m so sorry😔

actually i take back that sorry i couldn’t vote at the time so it’s not my fault
0 likesI wish I could like this multiple times
0 likesHonestly I haven't been using much social media lately, I find my time is better spent reading, sewing, breathing, trying to catch up on my school work lol. The only exceptions are WhatsApp to talk to my friends coz lonely, YouTube to make me smile on a bad day and to discover jems like this, and Pinterest for writing advice, funny fandom posts, and pretty dresses to make, I keep all my boards private lol
0 likesWhat can we do? Letting it be seems like too much though.
0 likesThis is the most beautiful thing.
0 likesOMG PLEASE PUT THIS ON SPOTIFY
0 likesIt's like midnight where I'm at but I ain't even mad this is so beautiful

0 likesI REMEMBER YOU PUTTING THIS ON YOUR INSTA STORY YEARS AGO!
0 likesGod i love this
0 likesI don't think I've been this early since 2015.
0 likesOn a more relevant note, I haven't used twitter since 2015-ish either, cause it's stopped making sense to me. I remember, once upon a time, when there were two types of people: 'I have twitter' and 'twitter is boring'. You could tell so much about them.
I actually miss the early days of twitter. I miss everything internet-wise. Dang.
My God, I have found my new favorite artist

0 likesWhat are the chords? I would love to play this!
0 likesReplies (1)
Damn YT is broken: I wrote a comment with chords 6 minutes before yours and, from another account, I cannot see it. Here are the chords (copy-paste from previous comment):
0 likes--- Easy version ---
verses:
Dm | Bb C /x3
Bb C | (Dm)
pre-chorus:
Bb C | G /x2
chorus:
Dm | Bb C
--- Real version ---
verses:
Dm | Bbmaj7 Asus4/C /x3
Bbmaj7 Asus4/C | (Dm)
pre-chorus:
Bb C | G /x2
chorus:
Dm | Bbmaj7 Asus4/C
--- Notes ---
Asus4/C goes on guitar like that (from bass strings): X32230.
Or you can play Cadd9 instead (X32030).
Due to differences in notation, here are some translations:
Bb - B-dur, Dm - d-moll
Kind of sounds like a song that could be in the Hunger Games
0 likesthis is so aesthetic to look at oml
0 likesLoved that
0 likesThis is art.
0 likesme looking in the mirror to see how she plays it
0 likesOkay, I have started listening to songs by Dodie a while back from a playlist based on either an AJR song or Cavetown, I can't remember, but I just recently saw a video on TomSka's channel, the "17 ways to dump your girlfriend", and I noticed that it features Dodie!😱😱😱❤️💛💚💙💜💗 I had no idea and was so surprised! I was just watching those videos, you know, because TomSka, but I didn't expect to see one of my favorite music artists on any of them!
0 likesAnyway, it is easy to get scared for this nation and all the division, but thank you for sharing this video!
Side note: my Gods do I type too much!😆😂😆😂😆
I might just be a dummy since I know very little music theory, but the "Nothing we can do" part seems to work on both 3/4 AND in 4/4 and I'm real confused? Does anyone who's smarter than me know what time signature it's actually in? Or is it one of those fancy polyrhythms?

0 likesI’ll tell you why I’m not scared of the future.
1 likeI don’t care if I live to see tomorrow (has nothing to do with the state of the world).
Is this going to be on Spotify?

We blow the whistle. we scream.
push and pull break the screen.
i feel not longer hated; nor loveable.
wish some could be held accountable. but what can we do? what can we do? what can we change?
when the world is in pain, and mother's and father's efforts go in vain
what do we do? what do you do?
what can i do?
an insignificant spec in the dark screaming "can you hear me yet?".
what can i do?
You mesmerise and fascinate me.
