While I have really broad tastes in music, I mostly listen to EDM and metal, so I'd never have spared you a glance if this hadn't started playing on Celestial Planes.... This absolutely blew my mind. Everything about it. I love it, and I'll be browsing your channel when I have the time. :3
I'm not a native english speaker so when I listen to english music I take the lyrics as an instrument, like another guitar. You don't listen to a guitar to memorize each note and write them down, you enjoy the feeling, the pitch of the instrument, the rythm, etc ... So I basically do the same with the lyrics, that's why sometimes I love some songs with horrible written lyrics but will hate some of the finest texts because it doesn't suit me on an "hearing" level. Ho boy, i hope i didn't lose you by that point xD
Well, what I wanted to say in the end is that you have a BEAUTIFUL voice, I suppose now you can guess I don't care very much for the lyrics (sorry) but the way you sing them it's awesome. It gave me a creepy/nice feeling of someone whispering into your hear when you're not ready for it and about to sleep, you're scared and then you realize it's your mother and ask her to continue. To put it simply : I love this song !
hhnnnggg everything you make is so perfect doesn't matter what you're singing about, you always make it sound beautiful. your songs just always make me feel so darn emotional, that's especially true with this one... please never ever stop making your wonderful music <3
it's amazing how lush and vast your music sounds considering you do all this completely by yourself i particularly love the solo section, those horns <3
Honestly, when I really take the time to listen to the lyrics, this is one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard. I don't mean that in a bad way, though. It's well done, and powerful, and an instant favorite. I just shouldn't listen to it when I'm already feeling down.
Wow I really love your sound...always makes me think of the beatles if they made pony tunes ^^ didn't realize you had new stuff (granted I'm 4 months off now lol).
Love this piece. You record the piano yourself? Also you planning on doing a submission for the next ponies at dawn? I'm hoping to get something done myself.
I've always been a huge fan of Al Stewart, and every time I hear this song, it just puts me right back in there. Just everything about it screams that at me, and I can't help but wonder if anyone else here is picking it up.
This song fits unusually well with the interpretation of Moondancer from the fanfiction "Background Pony"--and her rationalization of a memory of old friendship with Twilight and Lyra that has been altered by Lyra's non-existence.
@wario1226 haha let me know if you can reach the bottom note, I had to extend the range of the kontakt patch I was using. I figured there's probably at least some sort of attachment you can get for it
I love this song. It feels like it has been influenced by groups like the Beach Boys, some Harry Nilsson, with a little The Left Banke, The Association, and even The Byrds in there. Mostly, though, I feel there is a strong 60s Brit rock vibe in your music. This song is impeccable on every level.
Edited to add: Oh, and there's clearly some Beatles motifs there. Their influential fingerprints are everywhere in the song. If I may ask, who are some of your influences? You seem to like doing a little jazz piano in your music, too. I would almost bet money you're a fan of Cowboy Bebop, too. Just based on your musical style. :P
+John Allen I think you listed off quite a lot of em :p I love 60s rock and the phil spector school of production, I was thinking spaghetti western type of stuff here, I also like david bowie and ELO and Genesis and all those guys, Led Zeppelin etc, I also have a background in classical music
+replacer - Yeah, I suspected as much. I was raised on that music, all of it, and that's why this song seemed so familiar, even though I had never heard it before. I can tell you have a background in classical music, because of the way you compose your songs; The layout of each is very movement driven. You have a deft touch, and I look forward to more of your work.
Listening to this, I can't help but think of what would come of a new collab between you and someone like SGaP (who I've heard might be coming back...) or Kreuhn. You all have a great understanding of that style that's both soothing and unique, but also somewhat progressive.
Either way, this is great stuff. It's nice to see you keeping quality while also making music that is undoubtedly new. There's a real dreamy vibe to this one, and I loved how you used the strings here - placing them as a comfortable harmony instead of shoving them in the forefront like most would.
Well, you may still get that chance one day, who knows. There was recently activity around SGaP's tumblrs which hinted towards at least the possibility of a return. So here's hoping.
I do love the noir feel that I get from a lot of Replacer's music, but I really have to ask, what is this one about? A failed relationship, obviously. But my small mind can't seem to piece together much more than that.
Been a while since I popped by your channel. Always loved your stuff. Was just wondering, have you ever thought about collabing with Fritzy Beat? I think you both would be great together.
This song actually kinda freaked me out. Something in the melody I guess, but it made me need to look over my shoulder. Don't get me wrong, I can tell it is well put together and flows really nice. Over all it's pretty good. On the other hand, the lyrics didn't really appeal to me. Though, you sang them beautifully. I hope you are not insulted. That is not my intention. I can see how someone could like it, since it is indeed well put together. It's just not my cup of tea. I still enjoy your voice, though. ^_^
@Tyrellus Selane Not at all, it is a bleak and unsettling song. It ain't no Let Your Mane Down, that's for sure. I'm just happy to get an emotional response out of someone really ^^
Songs like these that tickle the mind in such unexpected ways...these are the kinds of things that really make me want to learn music theory. The evocation of these rare modes, diminished and augmented chords and such, it permits the telling of a tale without words. The first time I heard that music is the universal language, I thought it was such fluff...now I am starting to get it. It's a real marvel. Thanks for putting your heart into this.
This might seem a silly question . . . But what is the song about? Its a great song but perhaps a little explaining could help us understand what you're trying to say in the song.
@MLP - Lead Fedora it's kinda just imagery really, meant to evoke a humdrum existence, growing up, being disappointed, from various perspectives...it has a little bit of Bohemian Rhapsody about it ("nothing really matters to me") and people keep noticing the Floyd influence which is cool. There's maybe a hint of love triangle.

I am a native English speaker, but I do the same thing! The lyrics are nothing if they don't fit into the song rhythmically and harmonically :)
