So funny story- I've never actually heard the real pillow talk song but I loved this so much. After I heard this I went to the original and I hate it. This will always be the original to me!
I don't know if this sets you at ease at all, Dodie, or if it really even matters but: your sip of champagne doesn't count. It just doesn't. It's kind of like if you were not going to eat candy all month and then freaking Halloween happened and you put a skittle in your mouth for ten seconds. It was a huge occasion, you didn't even drink the champagne really- you literally just tasted it.
I have been straightedge for a thousand years, I have never had any alcohol. So when I say that you're totally fine, it isn't just another person who drinks casually and doesn't see it as a big deal. You didn't mess up your sober month- everything is okay. As far as I'm concerned, as a total stranger on the internet, you could just drop that little disclaimer all together. You're all good.

hey dodie, just wanted to tell you a quick( shit this isn't as quick as i originally intended) thank you. this year, i finally took some of your advice and started going to therapy. I have serious social and generalized anxiety. At first therapy didn't seem to be working as well as i expected it to, but this last time was literally so overwhelming, we sorta had a break through moment where she was like "well i feel like you never let yourself feel happy. like ever." i just broke down and cried because wow she is so right? and i never knew?? and i realized a big issue for me is that my brain doesn't even let me feel good about myself or anyone or anything around me, it like cuts any happiness short and flows pure anxiety and sadness into my brain. its so hard to explain if you don't have it or know what it feels like but i guess the point of me telling you all this is that i need to tell you thank you so much. that was such a big break through and such a big moment for me to finally pin point the way i was feeling, and i never would have figured it out if it weren't for your being so open and honest about mental illness and therapy. wow this is so much but i felt like pouring my heart out to you because you make me feel like this is a safe place to do so. thanks for creating things, you inspire me to create things too AND get my mental health in check so thank you dodie!!

iv been going to therapy for over a year now for a lot of things though I have a similar issue to you, my body and brain will not let me break down or cry when I need to and so every few months I have a massive break down and flood or anxiety and depression that really takes a toll on how my life is going. Ive been reading the comments about how the "original pillow talk" is a meaningless pop song about rough sex. Yes the song is explicitly about sex but it is about the vulnerability and rawness of sex and the connection that you feel with your lover along with roughness of it. Its anything but meaningless. And its great in both versions!

Hi Dodie I loved this cover. Just going back to alcohol, I'm seventeen and I've only been drinking for a year but somehow I've spiralled into a super bad place with it. I'll wake up with bruises from falling over and I'll yell at people and that's not who I am or who I want to be. I'm trying to see if I can go the entire uni semester no alcohol, although it's hard to say that because I'm barely 17 and I have to admit I have a problem. A lot of what makes that so endearing, though, is that it is genuine and she is confident in those parts of herself. Also video editing + staging/lighting makes everything inherently more romanticized. So...yeah. Just be the best self you can be and do things that make you happy.

You probably won't see this, but thank you Dodie. You've helped me so much over the past year, which has been the hardest time in my life. My dad left, my pet died, I developed depression and depersonalisation and I already had gad (generalised anxiety). Watching your videos helps me escape and they make me so calm and happy. You can do it! I spent two years not drinking while I was a student. :) It gets easier the longer you do it for. Now, I find I very rarely drink. I literally only drink for the flavour. :) (pretty much a 2 drink maximum.)

honestly... in today's music industry all anyone values is how high you can belt and it ends up in an uncomfortable scream off. i really appreciate a singer who actually works on the intonation of their voice to the point that you don't need to belt high notes in order to make a genuinely enjoyable cover. ill listen to dodie's covers over almost any other singer. one of the most beautiful ive ever heard. somehow flawed yet perfect at the same time <3 (not to say there are no good belters, they're just far and few inbetween)

I've recently introduced your covers to some of my vocal students in the primary school I work at. I've explained to them not everyone sounds like a pop star, first because they've had lots of practice and experience, but also because not everyone has the same range, tone, ability to belt notes etc. Some of them struggle with the fact that they can't sing along to a track of their favourite song and sound just like their idol, it makes them feel like they can't sing. But showing them that they can make a song their own, singing it in a way that suits their voice in a way like you do Dodie, makes them excited to not only perform the songs they love but to make it sound different and interesting. I thought you should know videos like this are inspiring to many 😊

hey dodie i really need some advice. mainly everyday when i get home from school i lock myself in my room and i get really really sad. it's not because something bad happens it's just because i get really frustrated with myself and how i'm good at nothing and other stuff like that. once i start crying i actually really like it so i try to make myself cry a lot?? it's really weird and terrible so i think i might be making myself sad on purpose just so that i can cry and then feel better afterwards. after you cry it just feels even better than when you're happy for some reason. i also get super mad really easily and to stop myself from like kicking something i usually either make myself cry again or i just clench my whole body until i'm like shaking? i don't really know how to explain it but i'm pretty sure everyone can do that thing. it's actually kind of concerning me because my emotions are really out of control.

undeniably trash i also am not dodie but decided I'd pop in real quick <3 I can't say I have advice for everything you said but I will say I understand the weird feeling of enjoying crying and making yourself cry more. For me I think it's a side effect of my depersonalization issues-- I don't experience emotions fully like most people and I think I'm much more self aware than I should be. But anyway I do get kinda what you're talking about <3 I really encourage you to try to find a way to get therapy of some sort, even if it's just online or through school. Love you <3

hey dodie, just wanted to tell you a quick( shit this isn't as quick as i originally intended) thank you. this year, i finally took some of your advice and started going to therapy. I have serious social and generalized anxiety. At first therapy didn't seem to be working as well as i expected it to, but this last time was literally so overwhelming, we sorta had a break through moment where she was like "well i feel like you never let yourself feel happy. like ever." i just broke down and cried because wow she is so right? and i never knew?? and i realized a big issue for me is that my brain doesn't even let me feel good about myself or anyone or anything around me, it like cuts any happiness short and flows pure anxiety and sadness into my brain. its so hard to explain if you don't have it or know what it feels like but i guess the point of me telling you all this is that i need to tell you thank you so much. that was such a big break through and such a big moment for me to finally pin point the way i was feeling, and i never would have figured it out if it weren't for your being so open and honest about mental illness and therapy. wow this is so much but i felt like pouring my heart out to you because you make me feel like this is a safe place to do so. thanks for creating things, you inspire me to create things too AND get my mental health in check so thank you dodie!!

I've explained to them not everyone sounds like a pop star, first because they've had lots of practice and experience, but also because not everyone has the same range, tone, ability to belt notes etc. Some of them struggle with the fact that they can't sing along to a track of their favourite song and sound just like their idol, it makes them feel like they can't sing. But showing them that they can make a song their own, singing it in a way that suits their voice in a way like you do Dodie, makes them excited to not only perform the songs they love but to make it sound different and interesting.

0 likeshey dodie i really need some advice. mainly everyday when i get home from school i lock myself in my room and i get really really sad. it's not because something bad happens it's just because i get really frustrated with myself and how i'm good at nothing and other stuff like that. once i start crying i actually really like it so i try to make myself cry a lot?? it's really weird and terrible so i think i might be making myself sad on purpose just so that i can cry and then feel better afterwards. after you cry it just feels even better than when you're happy for some reason. i also get super mad really easily and to stop myself from like kicking something i usually either make myself cry again or i just clench my whole body until i'm like shaking? i don't really know how to explain it but i'm pretty sure everyone can do that thing. it's actually kind of concerning me because my emotions are really out of control.

For me I think it's a side effect of my depersonalization issues-- I don't experience emotions fully like most people and I think I'm much more self aware than I should be. But anyway I do get kinda what you're talking about <3 I really encourage you to try to find a way to get therapy of some sort, even if it's just online or through school. Love you <3
